After the bleach my hair started falling off and not the color I wanted plus its not even. And still charged me $200!!! I mean it's named after one of the great bands in history. I know a lot of people that come here to get their hair done because this is the area where I spend a lot of time when I'm in Detroit. Some of my friends live here, and Kung Fu Tea is here more importantly - not too far away. There's a great bakery and a great Mexican grocery in the same plaza. And then there's this salon. Wonderful people and a really lovely little salon with an awesome diverse multi-ethnic clientele, always fun conversations inside, very competitive prices, and excellent expertise. Watched them do the whole nine yards to my one-week-roomie and she already looked great going in, but excellent work. Offered to pay thinking it should all be about $100 (by Buffalo price standards, or Texas). Came out to under $50. What?! I also asked about getting a trim, decided against it because my hair was still looking nice. But it's a great spot, and everyone in here is super friendly. This is the only place my family and I go to get our haircuts. I do not know the name of the young man with glasses (he speaks Hoisan-wa), but he cuts so QUICK and precise! I always walk away satisfied when he cuts my hair. I always get the same cut - few inches off, layers with a face frame, and thinned out and he does just that. Exactly what you ask for. I went to him recently after a botched haircut (they were closed so I went somewhere else - big mistake) and he fixed it up beautifully. 4/5 stars only because they do not accept appointments and are walk in only (first come first served) so there can be quite a wait depending on when you go. read more

The salon's hygiene is nonexistent, floor is not swept, counters are filthy, tools are not properly sanitized, combs have clumps of hair and products buildup. Asked for a cut/highlights touch up. Cut is mediocre at best. Completely ruined my hair color, botchy, uneven tones, and fried. Left this place in tears because of how horrendous my hair looked. I've been trying to grow out my hair for the past few months, so I told the barber many times to not cut anything off the front, to only clean up the sides and back, showed him a picture to reference, and confirmed that he understood me. He then completely ignored what I said and cut off a whole two inches off the front. When I brought this up to him, he was rude and not apologetic at all, and just said "it will grow back." The quality of haircut they provide is absolutely terrible. I even had a picture to reference what I want my hair but they didn't even get close to that. All I asked for was for my hair to be trimmed and for me to have curtain bangs that blended into my hair. I guess that takes to much of their time to put in the quality for that style of haircut I wanted. I wanted to include that my hair was down to the lower part of my back but now it is up to my collarbone. That is not a trim nor is cutting my bags at my eye level bluntly to the point where it is noticeable of where they don't blend. I understand if they are overwhelmed with customers but I have already waited over an hour patiently in wet hair. We came in for a haircut after letting my son's hair grow long enough for the haircut in the pictures that were shown to the barber. I specifically asked him to leave the hair long at the top and go short on the back. This haircut looks NOTHING like the images shown. He left the top way shorter than it was when we showed up. If you cannot deliver a haircut as shown DON'T CUT THE HAIR AND TELL THE CUSTOMER YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO. Moved into the area in February and took a gamble where to get my hair cut, which turned out horrible. I was able to come to U2 to have them fix it up the best of their ability and I've been coming to get my haircut here ever since. Definitely a walk-in kind of place, unless you're trying to do something with color. Getting your hair washed is only a little extra, but is definitely worthwhile since they kinda do a scalp massage. It's so expensive, I did a 3 hour session. they bleached my hair in high volumes and left it for an hour. they gave me chemical burns on my scalp. I went to the ER to get it checked, as well setting up a dermatologist Appointment. Decided to bite the bullet and give this place a try. I ended up getting seated after a minute or two of walking in. Jackie was my hairdresser. He spoke to me in Chinese and realized I didn't understand him and asked me if I speak Chinese and I said no. He put the cape over me and asked if I needed my hair washed. I said no as I had just looked washed it late this morning. He asked me how much in wanted cut and I told him about 2 inches. He demonstrated with his fingers and I said yes. He asked if I wanted layers and I said no, straight across. He asked me 2 more times and I again said straight across. He must have wet the ends and cut my hair in less than 10 minutes. He was quick and did a decent job, as good as any stylist at double the price for sure. He asked me again if I wanted the outside ends layered and I said no. He checked the cut and cleaned it up a bit and gave me a mirror so I could examine it. I will only look off when I change the part since it wasn't cut with the part in the middle but rather zig zagged on the right side. It felt good and healthy afterwards and was decently cut straight. I have learned over the decades that a straight cut is the hardest for any stylist or hair dresser. I have yet to find someone that can cut it perfectly straight. I have come to accept that I can at least get relatively straight. I would go back and have Jackie cut my hair again. An important bite is that they are cash only and a cut with no wash is $21, that's so reasonable. I am always aghast having to pay double or even triple for the same cut at any other salon and the quality of the job is no better. I am not a complicated cut but it does take precision and a detailed eye to give a straight cut, it's harder than I ever realized. I remember my parents taking me here all the time, and I thinking how awesome it was that they always washed your hair with shampoo before and after your hair cut, and for $10 only! I know the prices have risen a bit since those days of youth but the barbers are all hip-lookin' Asians - they were always going into the back room to smoke and hang out. I don't think I've ever seen barbers that were hipper than these guys/gals. There's this little TV in the corner that's always playing some children's TV show, tons of Asian glamour magazines on the table, and the bathroom looks like it doubles as a storage closet. However, as I do love all things Asian and U2 is my favorite band, it only seemed natural for me to try this place. So, what do you get when you go to an Asian Salon named after an Irish rock band? An average haircut. $16.00 for a wash, cut, and dry was certainly reasonable, if not cheap. My stylist, Charlie, was pleasant and friendly. His shampooing technique was great. I have a busy schedule, and that takes one thing off my back. But, even though an appointment is not required they are always busy. You should expect to wait at least 10 to 15 minutes. Does anyone know where one of the stylists, Frankie, has moved to?

First, do not bother coming here unless you speak their language (Cantonese) or else they will not understand you or your preferences for a haircut. Nearly all of the employees have very limited English proficiency (especially the stylists). The few times I have come here have ended in major disappointment. I typically ask for a standard men's cut (nothing complicated), and show them a picture of myself with the length I want it cut on the sides and top. The last 3-4 times I've been here the various male stylists have cut my hair way too short, asymmetrically, and in a haphazard way where the cut would take less than 10 minutes. It seems like they do not know how to listen to English directions, or take guidance from a picture. 9 out of 10 times I've walked out kicking myself with regret, and with a 5th grade boyish haircut that I never want to see again. They have been consistently bad at this point.. and I will never come back again. I'd agree with one of the older yelp reviewers below that if you're an Asian guy less than age of 30 I'd skip this place entirely. read more

Today was my first time visiting this salon. I've been going to another place for 10 years, but I was tired of the stylist going off on vacation unannounced. I tried going to American salons and they don't know how to cut Asian hair. Someone suggested I go visit U2 in Madison Heights. Definitely a walk-in kind of place. As I entered, they told me to sit down. Once they were ready for me they took my jacket and directed me to the back to wash my hair (extra $). They washed my hair, did a scalp massage, got a quick back massage, then told me to sit back down in the waiting area. Once they were ready for me I sat down on the chair and showed a picture to the stylist on an idea of how to cut my hair. Surprisingly, the stylist did it PERFECTLY! I was really pleased with the haircut. I will DEFINITELY come back to this place! read more

I came to this salon because my aunt loves this girl here who cuts hair. My aunt has long hair and hers looks great! however, i have short hair just below the shoulder. i went in to get a simple hair trim with layers but i left with less than a 1/2 my hair. she cut it WAY too short and when she was giving me "texture and layers" she was just cutting away and getting scissor crazy. my pony tail is SO much more smaller and i can't find a way to style it down where i don't look like a 2 year old growing in hair. the only hair style that i look good with is a low pony tail. the prices are cheap and honestly what you pay for is when you get your hair washed. that part was the ONLY part worth my money. they take 15 minutes to wash your hair and give you a scalp massage. they also give your neck and shoulders a massage too. they don't have seats where the sinks are to wash your hair but they do have something looking like a massage table. overall. i cry when i look at my hair and now i'm working on finding somewhere that does micro extensions read more

Came here for a standard wash and blow dry and walked away with such an amazing experience for just $20! First, the wash was absolutely invigorating. Next, the blow dry was extended with flat ironing my extremely thick, curly and long hair until it was straight as an arrow! Overall, a great visit. read more

Compared with other "Asian" salon in Michigan, this one is my favorite. The owners are a couple and they are very nice. They know how to cut my hair and straighten them. I also went once for a party hair makeover, she did a very nice curled hair style for me. They also wash your hair in the Asian salon way which is super comfy with a little head massage. I absolutely love this hair salon. They always cut my hair really well, and the two owners are very nice. If you're female and you want a hair wash + cut, it'll cost you $23. (they increased their prices by $3). Once you walk in, you let them know if you just want a cut, or a hair wash + cut. Then you take a seat and wait until they call you over. The hair wash was really nice as they shampoo/condition two or three times, and massage your scalp and head. When they're finished, they'll clip your hair up until one of the workers calls you over to their seat. While I was waiting, I couldn't help but eavesdrop on one of the customer's conversation with the hairstylist. A girl was getting her hair cut, and her mom walked over to tell the male hairstylist her daughter preferred longer hair. I have never seen him before there, so I assume he's new. He was also speaking Vietnamese (the owners are Chinese). He told the mother in a snobbish and arrogant tone that "I didn't cut her hair that short." as he continued snipping away, and then continued to say "I make her look good." Then he blew dry her hair literally as if he was slapping away at her head. Anyway, when he was done with her, he called me over to cut my hair, but I told him "No thank you, I'd prefer the lady to cut my hair." The owner always cuts my hair just how I like it, and I would much rather have her cut it after seeing how he treated that poor girl. I really love going here because everytime I leave that salon, my hair is always super soft and smells good ^_^ I've been to other hair salons, but usually they don't offer to wash your hair! They usually just cut and voila, you're done. So I definitely don't mind paying extra for the service that U2 provides :) Be prepared to wait though because this place is always busy! This is where my boyfriend goes for his haircuts and the prices are not bad compared to other salons but they are way better than the average GreatClips. The staff is friendly, and I would definitely not recommend coming on the weekend unless you have a free day because they're usually busy. An average haircut for men is $17 without shampoo but they rinse the hair before and after the haircut. A haircut with shampoo is $21 and my boyfriend says that it like an additional relaxing head massage. Definitely a good place. AND its CASH ONLY read more
