I've been to 6salon, Alchemy Color Lab, everywhere. Now, I've got thick, straight, black Asian hair. I've been blonde to the root for about three years now. After the 100th disappointing and overcharged hair appointment left my root brassy and chunky, I decided it was time for a change. Peter at New U2 is a godsend. He told me he worked in New York for 15 years before moving to Michigan. I have no idea why he would make that move, but I sure am glad that he did! He and Jake spent 5.5 hours sectioning, foiling, toning, washing, cutting, and drying my hair. It usually wouldn't take that long, but I had grown out my black roots for like. Four months (yeah, I know). After drying, they went through the trouble of touching up and toning some spots that I didn't even notice, so they did the wash/dry cycle one extra time just to be thorough. I also had a brassy band coming in from my last appointment, so they had to figure out bleaching and toning and blending the root from black to brassy to blonde. Not an easy task! All in all, I was pleasantly surprised. This appointment also cost less than my last one, where they did a worse job. They speak Mandarin and Cantonese and English, of course. I can't recommend them enough!

She is SO intuitive and talented when it comes to crafting the perfect combination of cut and color to flatter your features and make your hair dreams come true. (I've included a few pics of previous looks she's done for me as proof of her artistry) On top of being great at what she does, Vega is truly just a lovely and engaging presence, so fun to chat with! If you're reading these reviews trying to choose a stylist, try Vega - you won't regret it. The salon itself is gorgeous and welcoming - I love all the snacks and drinks they offer, the music is always great and the rest of the employees are lovely and seem to be equally great at their work, from what I've observed. Sam is so talented with her cuts and color that you can just show her a picture of what you are looking for and she delivers. My hair has never looked so good and been so healthy. I went in and requested an asymmetrical bob. I have curly and thick hair for an Asian and, from my experience, only some hairstylist knows how to deal with hair like mine. I was wary but desperate for a new haircut. The hairstylist took note of my curly hair and he did such a great job! I can tell he has a lot of experience by the tools he used and the techniques he used to cut and manage my hair. At the end, he even provided guidance on how to take care of my hair with the new cut I got so it will look the way he styled it at the end. And most importantly, he was so kind.
