I just got the impression when I was running late (outside of my control) that I was an inconvenience. That their policy states that the stylist can decide if you're running late whether or not you'll get the same service, seems excessive. As a customer running late, I already feel pressure to tip more for being late, or anticipate that my stylist is going to rush, but to say I won't get a service I'm asking for, doesn't quite make sense. I get it, you need to set expectations, and make sure people don't take advantage. But maybe provide a little buffer room. For example, as your customer if I'm running early or you're running behind, I don't mind waiting a few minutes. I certainly cannot say to you, "you're late so I want the same service but I'll pay less because that's what my time is worth" even though the stylist might rush on my appointment to get themselves back on time. But when you give me the impression via policy, and in talking with your team that I'm a bother, I'll kindly take the door and find another location. Update: 8/27/21 - I appreciate the owner reaching out to me and further explaining the policy. That reach-out is appreciated, but I still stand that the policy, and more importantly the approachability of the staff can be improved. I DID call the establishment ten minutes before the appointment recognizing that I was going to be late, and apologizing to a business I was paying a service for, to an employee that could not be bothered. THAT is why this a sub-par experience and worth me looking for alternative options, and recommending others do the same. read more

I got caught up in traffic due to the unending construction all over the city right now. When I called to say I'd be about 10 minutes late I was told I should reschedule. This is pretty annoying because every other appointment I've ever had there I had to wait 5-10 minutes or sometimes more. Whatever. I won't be back. read more

Impressed with this place... stopped by for a beard trim and didn't have to wait long. Super cool build out and the lounge area is legit; smelled of leather bound books and rich mahogany. Very swanky, a hipster's paradise. Everybody was super friendly and welcoming... it's clean too. No hair on the floor and all of the stations were well-kept and decorated with some personal flare. Brittland trimmed my beard and she did a great job taming it, lined me up and tackled my eyebrows too. All for 12 bucks! That's a steal in my opinion - especially when compared to other joints. This is the first time I've been to a different barbershop then my usual one in 5 years. I was nervous to get a new stylist because my other barber knew exactly what to do with my hair. Located on the second story near Tom's Oyster Bar is this cool retro styled barber shop. I have been going to Macie for years and she moved to this location. She is a licensed cosmetologist and barber= beyond a princeton cut but also uses straight razors. Made it in on their first day. Easy to find. No non-sense. Fair prices-less for a men's cut then most of the Royal Oak establishments. There is a cigar and whiskey themed waiting room overlooking main street that would go perfect with a stiff drink. The owner is friendly. It's a local business. They offer shoe shines. Laid back. I endorse this spot. Has a wood and leather film noir vibe. Check it out. read more

No receptionist around so I left and no one noticed or really cared. I got a great haircut by another shop. The owner did call me 90 minutes after my appointment and offered a free haircut. Unfortunately my time is important and I can't waste it on businesses who don't respect that. So if you're busy and prompt service is important move on with your search. The atmosphere here is nice, and the staff is kind, but the service wasn't up to my standards. Went here with my boyfriend because he wanted a haircut quickly, and the woman who did the haircut seemed to know what we meant when we asked for a two block haircut, but did not really do it at all. The haircut was extremely uneven and I had to fix it as best I could when we got home. I could see her getting confused and she kept cutting more and more to fix mistakes; she obviously didn't have much experience with Asian hair. She didn't even shampoo his hair before or after cutting so he was left with itchy cut hairs falling on his face until we got home so he could shower. I decided to get my brows waxed, and the person also did not seem experienced. She didn't let the wax fully harden, so I was left with a sticky residue that I never have with my usual esthetician. So, all in all, I would not recommend this place. It's cozy and pretty, but our experience wasn't good. read more

I came in town for the 4th of July and needed a fresh haircut. I stumbled across this fantastic barber shop located in the heart of Royal Oak. My hair cut was perfect and the barbers were friendly and professional. Dapper House also offered a straight blade razor shave along with a warm towel treatment, and believe it or not shoe shines. I took my two year old son here for his first real haircut, and I was extremely impressed with the service that I received. Starting from the beginning online booking was definitely a bonus, I was kind of strapped for time and I was able to schedule the appointment before they opened. When we arrived, we were directed to an extremely comfortable waiting room with a TV, which they tuned to the Disney Channel for my son (anyone with kids understands the importance of this). When our barber was ready for us he put a booster on the chair for my son to sit on. However, my son was not a fan and the barber had no problem with him sitting on my lap. During the entire hair cutting process, my son was squirming and trying to get down (because that's what two year olds do), and the barber just worked with him and did what he needed to do. Everyone that worked here made me feel very comfortable bringing my child here. His hair turned out amazing and we will definitely be back! read more
