There was at least three different shades of color in my hair. I had a wedding to attend and debated not going because of the way my hair looked. I called ACL and was lucky to have an appointment with Vega. She was able to figure out how to get my hair one color. I didn't think that would be possible, but she did it. Have to say I hate leaving yelp reviews unless they're positive, but I was very unhappy with the knowledge and treatment of the staff I received here last time I went. I really trusted one stylist here, and on a budget, I tried to find a way to go from blonde to light red. The stylist I wanted to visit, who helped me achieve a really amazing blonde color in the past (while giving amazing service with tons of knowledge and was great at communicating) was kind enough to recommended that to stay within my budget, I use a level 1 stylist, which was significantly more affordable, and she let me know she'd be there the same day as the less experienced stylist. I went to the appointment really hopeful that my hair would turn out great trusting the more experienced stylists recs. During the visit, I asked my stylist if we should highlight my roots before using an all-over red gloss because I knew they were much darker from the rest of my color and I've been going from blonde to red for a while. She said it would just look like a natural red ombré if we didn't highlight them, so I trusted her recommendation. Whoops. When I was checking out, I mentioned that some of the hair strands looked blonde while some looked red and parts of my hair still looked brown at my roots. She said that was just because of the depth of color.... I left pretty sad, feeling awkward about saying much at the time because I was trying to convince myself she was right. But when I got home and saw my hair again, it seemed faded, uneven in color all over, and like it was done by a person without enough experience. I am aware I should have considered this before using a level 1 stylist, I just thought that since these stylists go through lots of intense training, she'd have enough knowledge to make proper recommendations. When I called later that day to ask if there was any way to fix my hair, the person I spoke with was very accommodating and understanding, and offered an appointment the very next day to come in and speak about fixing my hair. She told me I'd be speaking to a stylist from the leadership team. However, when I got there, they assigned me a level 2 stylist, and she also said my hair was fine and "didn't look bad at all," but I was trying to explain that I wasn't happy with the results. She said I'd have to pay for another appointment to highlight my roots and redo the red, which I told her I had asked the original stylist about, but she told me it would look okay without highlighting the roots. She told me they couldn't be sure what was said between the original stylist and me... I left feeling accused of lying, and stupid, like I didn't understand my hair results from the way she explained them to me, and agreed to a call from a manager just wanting to get out of there. Later that day, the manager called me and said there was a miscommunication in my package(?), and they'd be willing to do the highlights at the roots at no charge a few days later, but it would be done by the level 1 stylist that originally did my hair. After asking if I could have someone more experienced and they said no, it was clear they wouldn't help me due to costs and stylist levels. I ended up going somewhere else where I felt more heard, where it seemed like they valued the opinion of the client a bit more. I was so surprised at this experience. I spent $170 for the service plus tip, but it didn't feel like it deserved that much. I really loved going here before, won't be going back. read more

If zero stars was an option for a rating, Alchemy Color Lab would receive no stars. I did a hair consultation prior to service for was a first time client. My stylist was very confident in her skills and I agreed to the service. After the color, I left in a hair treatment that was to be washed out the next morning resulting in the color being disguised. The next morning, I instantly reached out to the salon for help to correct the color. Salon has no phone service, just text messaging. They mentioned a Malibu treatment for color correction and setting up a time to sit down with my stylist Vega. Delayed responses, limited availability of stylist, and 7 day policy I got a message that they were not the salon for me. Take about customer service- What a joke. read more

Brittany M. has been doing my hair for a couple of years now and she recently moved to this salon. She really knows her way around blonde hair and consistently gives me the prettiest highlights. She is also the sweetest person and I feel like she is very considerate (tells me when things are going to cost extra, talks me through what she is going to do, makes me feel comfortable,etc). The salon itself is very cute, and the owner seems genuine and knowledgeable. It is easy to miss because there isn't a big sign but it is right on the corner of 4th and Washington, next to broadway salon. Was very upset with my recent visit. Left with the wrong hair transformation plus damaged hair. I have a really bad sore on my neck and pain all around my scalp that I will be getting check out at an urgent care to see if it's a chemical burn. When asking for a refund the owner was very rude, not understanding, and practically kicked me and my mom out. For whatever customer reads this I'm responding to what the owner wrote. The stylist DID NOT tell me about coming in again to her understanding and mine my hair was done and I did not leave in a mask. When I got home my hair dried up and looked like the picture below so I had to contact her and let her know about my results. I was planning on coming in to have it fixed but instead I communicated with them of how upset I was and how I would like a refund. After having your hair end up like my did after a 7 hour process anyone would be scared to have their hair touched like that again. My hair was damaged period. So yes I did go to another salon to fix it, which they did beautifully and my hair looks way healthier and shiny. At the end up the day, the owner was not understanding of the situation and was being very passive aggressive during the meeting. I don't think anyone would be happy about having a $517 payment to receive what I got in my picture below. I hope the owner learns to be more considerate of his customers who pay a lot of money and put trust into his stylist. It's not the customers fault that the stylist doesn't get the hair color right or cause damage to one's hair. simple. read more

So I'll start by saying I'm not a natural blonde. Haha. I'm filipino and my hair is naturally very dark, thick and I have a lot of it. I took a lot of pride in my hair and after leaving my old stylist, my hair was okay, but not exactly what I was used to. I wanted to feel confident again. I asked a friend for a recommendation and ultimately I was referred to Brian! I went in for a consult which I found enlightening and helpful. I knew after a moment of chair hopping, I was going to need a color correction. The very friendly staff had me wash my hands and of course I wore a mask to adhere to their COVID Protocols. I met Brian and learned my hair goals were attainable. In general, I just got good vibes all around. I had a 6 hour appointment to get my hair where it needed to be. I quickly learned how detail oriented Brian is. 3 types of lightener (ends, where color banded and scalp) were used to lift and correct my hair based on things like science and common sense. I have not seen my hair look this even in color in over a decade. Others got close, but not like this. Brian helped me choose a shade of blonde that suited my skin tone best. I was under the impression that I could never achieve this type of blonde. He toned me to the blonde gods. I'm very happy and I received a lot of blonde hair education along the way. For those who are looking to go blonde from a very dark natural color, remember man made hair lighteners and colors have their limitations. Although it is possible to go from dark to light rapidly, the integrity of your hair could be compromised. I'm confident that if the blonde I wanted to achieve was not conducive to my hair health, Brian would have told me. I'd rather have healthy hair vs. damaged hair. If there is a negative, I got lost coming back from the bathroom. But, thats my fault for being a moron. Yesterday I got my hair cut and colored with Autumn. She is an incredible listener and absolutely nailed what I wanted. I love that she has worked in other cities and you can absolutely tell that she is an experienced stylist. I asked for a shaggy low maintenance haircut and balayage to blend in some of my greys because I'm too busy to get my hair done every 6 weeks. I cannot recommend Autumn or Alchemy Color lab enough. This was the worst experience I've ever had. My usual stylist in Grand Blanc was full to the holidays and I had to cancel my long awaited appointment for a retake exam or something. After reading reviews I booked the RISING Artist Experience with VEGA. First, I didn't realize the "RISING Artist Experience" meant it was a complete newbie. Especially since the ticket price is $200. When I arrived they weren't very clear on which building was theirs and there are a bunch of salons on that corner. When I went into one they said "Oh they're terrible at telling their clients where to go it's over there." Then I go into the right place. Every question I asked my stylist she was asking another male stylist who looked 18 - showing she didn't know anything. I have a top layer of blonde and a natural dark brown beneath. I wanted to go all brown. After 1 week all the dye she put in my hair washed out and it looks EXACTLY THE SAME as when I walked in. The cut is TERRIBLE. She recommended a product for dandruff that does not work for dandruff that was over $30. After she blow dried my hair I could see a clear line from my root to the dye and I said "Um can you fix this? You can clearly still see my root." So she did a "root shadow" and charged me again. Then told me she did not have time to blow dry my hair again. So I left with wet hair. I will never come back here again. I ended up paying like $230 for an ass-backwards MESSED UP job that was never finished and over charged for everything. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I've been to this place twice with two different stylists. Nice people, nice salon. I will not be back. I walked out both times with almost the same color I walked in with and haircuts that were poor at best. In both cases, another stylist had to come over and help cut my hair. What really gets me is the price I paid for new talent when they couldn't cut my hair. I get that they need to learn and hair will grow back. But the charges for this were absurd. If a stylist is learning how to cut hair, they shouldn't be getting $150 for a haircut and working at a fancy salon. My hair is uneven and it will take months for this to grow out. You don't get what you pay for at this place. And... 5 hours both times for cut & color- and my hair is shoulder length. read more
