Came here to register my Import car from UD The person helping us had a question about the stamps in the import form so she had asked a colleague(Asian may be not sure) who clearly didn't know but asked us to go back to the border and get a stamp from the CBSA officer on the place where it indicates a stamp of RIV in form 1. It was ridiculous and the sheer confidence and arrogance that she had while asking us to go to the border for something which is not required was ridiculous. How irresponsible to not even bother to find out what is actually needed and directing to do something which takes substantial time effort and money blaming that the CBSA dint do the job right. People who come to the registry are either new to the country/city, and this person misguided us and the person who was helping us. The person helping us understood that it doesn't look right to ask for a border agent to stamp at RIV stamping space, she called the support line and resolved it, completed our registration, all good really applaud her customer service and dedication. (Missed asking her name) Putting a one star to warn people to do your research and not depend on what is told at the registry. Also if you end up with this Asian person and she misguides you, please double check before running to the border or wherever believing that the agent knows the best. read more

(HEY, it's my 200th REVIEW!!!!) They are our unsung heroes. They are warriors; the ones that stand between the darkness and the light, the sun and the moon, and the legal and the illegitimate. They champion our laws and our rights to avoid super long lineups to pay our fines at City Hall, and to strike a blow against driving without a licence. And they do all this without needing to wear capes and masks. Who are these non-vigilantes? Why, the friendly staff at New Urban Registry of course! Located in what arguably can be called one of the more dangerous parts of town, they're also in a great location at the cusp of downtown with plenty of parking and a great liquor store just nearby. But it's what they do that makes them our champions against (or maybe for) the raging hoardes of Red Tape and Paperwork. Basically put, if you need any sort of help with your documentation for your car, your car licence, your medicare card and such, they've got several stations for you. Or you want to incorporate your business, run a trace on a numbered company, want legal advice or a notary at quick notice? Again, they're here for you for a reasonable fee. Most importantly, it's one of the largest and the best registry in the downtown core, and pretty convenient when you need them as they're open 6 days a week from fairly early until late. I get most of my car stuff done with them, and know their stuff. When I first moved downtown and needed to renew the registration on my car, I was intrigued by the name of NU Urban Registry. It sounded trendy. A trendy registry? I know! What makes it trendy? Nothing more than the area it's in (on the cusp of the Culture District), its name and the glass doors. Otherwise, it's a normal registry. I've more recently taken to renewing my registration at the beginning of the month rather than at the end. I despise lineups, so I go when there aren't any. At NU, be sure to take a ticket for any motor vehicles business. They call you up by number. This was year two now of doing my vehicle registration at NU. They're fast and efficient with good hours. Luckily, that's exactly what I'm looking for in a Registry! To top it off, the staff have always been very friendly - It sort of took me off guard as it seems this isn't often the case with Registries. Lots of tellers (are they called tellers?) and a "Take a Number" style queueing system, so even though it can appear really hectic inside, they always seem to get to me in an acceptable amount of time. Pro Tip: if you can beat the after work rush by even a few minutes, they'll be fully staffed and there's isn't any line. In and out in no time! Paralegal - I recently used their paralegal services to get some documents signed. They were fast, thorough, professional and friendly. There is a closer Registry to my home than New Urban, but their speediness more than makes up for my travel time. read more

We stopped to get passport photos for the family on a busy Sunday afternoon. Staff was very professional and accommodating, and even took our pictures twice to ensure they met passport photo requirements. HORRIBLE customer service. Booked a drivers test and had to cancel the test. Was told that I could "rebook at ANYTIME" without penalty as they had my payment on file. Called back to rebook when spring came around (I had not had a vehicle) and was told that I would have to pay the fee again despite being told rebooking would be no problem with no time limit given to me. The reviews below are dead on. This registry tries to scam you out of money and does not honor their word from their poorly trained employees. AVOID AVOID AVOID. read more

Was expecting the worst (registries have a bad reputation), but I was happily surprised! I had an outdated insurance card when I showed up for my Non-GDL Driver's test, but they waited fifteen minutes for my to call my insurance company and get a fax copy. Horrible, unprofessional service. I called to make an appointment to have a document notarized. They gave me a time of 5:45pm. When I arrived at that time they said the notary public had already left and wouldn't be able to see me until two days later. I had to have this document in the mail today and now am scrambling to find another notary public. Worst service ever. Will NEVER use again. read more

Do not recommend this location. Initially went to AMA to get an update of my liscence and registration. Ama didn't give me my registration so I assumed they forgot to provide that service. Went to this registry since it is nearby to where I live. I updated the address. Turns out ama had done it but just didn't give it to me. I'm wondering why I am not allowed a refund, as if the address was already changed the New Urban employee did not mention it didn't need to be changed, but instead proceeded to charge me the update fee. Woman I spoke to on the phone about this problem was nice at first but was curt with me in the end saying "we provided you a service and you left so we can't do anything" despite their employee's not being effectively trained. I feel like this location does not have your best interests in mind to catch mistakes and will try to charge you whatever they can. At the very least I should have been charged a reprint fee (much cheaper) instead of the update fee had she properly taken the time for the transaction. read more

Me and my husband went to this registry office few times. I have just one comment after all these visits - the employees do not know proper information and follow double standards for different customers in the same situation. My husband went there few days ago to renew his driving license. Since he has an implied status, he got his driving license renewed for one year. He just had to show the AOR which states that he had applied for work permit extension. So, yesterday I went there to issue my 5 GDBL driver's license. The lady asked me my status in Canada. When she heard that I have an implied status, she asked for proof of work permit extension. I gave her my expired work permit, AOR and also the letter by CIC which states my passport was requested for Permanent Residence ship. After watching all these papers, she was not ready to give me a licence for 1 year and asked for cash receipt for the work permit extension. I told her lots of time that my work permit extension was done by my husband's company's lawyer and he has got the receipt. Besides, it seemed pretty dumb to me because I can't get the AOR if I don't pay for the extension. But she continued to argue and said she can't issue license for 1 year without the receipt. At that time, I mentioned that my husband got this driver's license renewed from the same registry by just showing the AOR. Then how could I don't get it? She then said she personally don't feel ethical to issue license for 1 year without watching more proof. She then suggested to come back next morning (leaving my work??) to talk with their Assistant Manager about this driver's license. But I thought I have tolerated enough of this dumbness and can't tolerate another one. So, I went to Taradale Registry in NE Calgary and it took me 7 minutes to get the license permit (validated for 1 month, but the original license will be for one year). I would prefer to drive 20 min to NE other than going to this dumb place again. Stay away from this place if you don't want to be harassed like this. read more
