Highly trained and professional driving instructors, and the office staff go out of their way to accommodate the customer and their sometimes changing needs. I am an advanced driving coach at this point and when people approach me that have zero experience in a car, I send them to New York Auto School first. And no they don't pay me to do that, from being on the inside I see their true value and worth, I know these people. They gave me my start. I'm giving 2 instead of 1 only because the instructors are decent, but don't waste your money with this company - there are plenty more in the area with great instructors and better customer relations. There were several red flags, but the biggest one for me was that I gave 24-hours notice to cancel a driving lesson due to a death in the family. the company did not check their messages or emails and did not inform the driving instructor so the poor instructor showed up. Not only are they refusing to reschedule the lesson or refund, but I was called and messaged (and sent pictures of my house?) multiple times while at a funeral mass. If that isn't the opposite of customer service, I'm not sure what is. That was the nail in the coffin for me. read more

New York Auto School is quite simply the best driving school you can go to. I cannot say enough good things about all of the instructors and staff that work at NYAS. Having been extremely anxious about learning to drive (especially for the first time as an adult), I booked a number of lessons and worked with a variety of instructors --Bruce, Mario, Diego, Joe, Bill, and Marvin. Every single instructor was phenomenal. Each instructor was extraordinarily patient, informative, reassuring, and knowledgable. Each went out of his way to help me learn new skills, become comfortable with driving, and adapt each lesson to different road and traffic conditions. Each also worked patiently with me when I was initially extremely nervous and making mistakes. Thanks to these instructors, I was able to (finally) conquer my fear of driving and truly feel safe and comfortable behind the wheel. In addition to excellent road instruction, the administrative team at NYAS are incredibly helpful and make scheduling easy and straightforward. The staff--including Wendy, Ana, and Amanda--helped with contingency planning where necessary, and helped me schedule extra lessons when I determined that I would want some more prior to the road test. They too went out of their way to make taking lessons easy and stress-free and helped with cancellations/re-scheduling etc, whenever it came up. I am so grateful to NYAS! In nutshell: Exceptional, Professional, Supportive Driving school that helped me, -a 30 years old brand new driver- to get my license at first try!!! Let me roll back and explain you why I loved working with New York Auto School and will refer it to everyone I know, who is looking for a driving school. In mid July- After searching sometime in the Bronx for a decent driving school , I almost made commitment to a school here, and then I realized how unprofessional that school is (where the so called instructors yell at you when you are trying to schedule your first lesson!?!) I decided not to settle and to look further for a legitimate, professional and established school close to my home and with my husband we came across online New York Auto school at Eastchester. They have a very nice, informative website and all their packages, prices are listed online , very legitimate and professional. The price was a bit more steep than I imagined to pay for; I took 10lesson package with road test companion , for 850$; but I justified this to myself that this is an important investment that I will be making for my future and hoping to have a pleasant learning experience. So there was NO way I was going back to this unprofessional school in the Bronx just because it was cheaper... I purchase the package online and then talked over the phone with Stephanie - she was very helpful to book all my driving lessons. as I am located in the Bronx, they told me they can only offer 2hour lessons which worked great for me. My first lesson was with Bruce and he did a great job introducing me to the car, gave me confidence by reassuring me that I am starting out great. The next 4lessons my instructor was Joe- and he is an excellent instructor. He has extensive driving experience and he conveys everything he wants you to learn in a calm, kind and also firm way. He always warned me timely and corrected my mistakes over and over again. I believe he really gave me excellent, safe and defensive driving skills and I am thankful to Joe. Apart from 10 lessons I took, I practiced like a mad person with my husband, utilizing my permit to the fullest extend before I took the road test. I believe Aside from 10hour lesson, now I have 40+ hours of driving on real road, night and day(except highways) under my belt. And Today I went to take my road-test with Joe and I am elated to say that I PASSED ( let me repeat for you again- I took only 10lessons and I passed and I have not driven in my life before!) you can imagine how happy I am and how thankful to Joe and the NewYork Auto School. They took care of all logistics with road test scheduling, (at New Rochelle) , taking me to the road test area and back. another great thing that they do : they sent text and email reminders before all appointments, so there is really no way for you to miss an appointment. This also shows how this business is run: very professional. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the service quality of NewYork Auto school at Eastchester location. They deserve the fee that they charge fully. They are really professional, organized and created a great learning experience for me, in the end I am licensed right now!!! I have to admit that The five hour course was a bit boring but even for that the instructor was able to make it very informative somehow. The conference room where the 5 he class took place is well-maintained. They supplied pens and paper for note-taking. The instructor, Mr. Taveras was very thorough and helpful-he gave us a lot of tips to help us pass the road test. He also gave us tips on how to drive safely. He was straight to the point and engaged the class. He was very patient in answering questions. It would have been a 5 star review had it not been for the size of the conference room and the size of the whiteboard that he used to make the driving illustrations. We had 11 people in the class and we needed to add extra chairs just so the other people that came in later can have a seats for the class. It ended up being to tight for the small space. The A/C was on blast and I was not prepared and ended up feeling cold. The white board he used was so tiny he didn't have enough space to show the illustrations. read more

5 hour class was very informative, when I reached out to customer service to get the login and password for class someone answered after one ring and was able to send it instantly, today i called again to ask a question about my certificate and low and behold they answered my question immediatly and then proceeded to book my road test for free, such amazing service I will recommend this to anyone. read more

I'm not giving them a perfect score because of one detail that turned me off. That is not being able to pay their services online and having to call and give them your credit card details over the phone. Though, they give you another option such as going to their office and pay them cash, but it is kind of inconvenient for people who have too little time in their hands. Overall, everyone and everything were awesome. I'm not saying this because I passed my road test on my first try but because people comprising NY Auto School definitely made this process such a breeze. A special shoutout to Susan, their front desk lady, for being so helpful, pleasant and accommodating. Also, a special mention to Norman and Diego, who were my driving instructors, for polishing my driving skills and for being patient with me. Contrary to some negative comments about NY Auto School, I can attest that they have an excellent service and I definitely had a wonderful experience. This auto school also offers a 5-hour class in NYC (the pre-certification class which you need to get a license in NYS) which I took tonight. It was a good class and only took 3.5 hours. It wasn't nearly as boring as I expected, and I actually learned some things. I found it very helpful that the instructor went over the road test step by step, giving us helpful pointers and going over the manual. He explained the many ways you can fail the test (and there are SO many ways). So yea, over-all worthwhile experience despite dozing off and fighting bordem for almost 4 hours. read more

I had a pleasure to work with wonderful people running New York Auto school when I moved in NYC couple of months ago from Europe. I had a decent driving history, however NYC requires taking written test, 5 hours prelicensing class and road test from scratch. I found New York Auto school on the web and they made the whole procedure incredibly convenient for me. The scheduled my road test, endured the vehicle and professional instructor Alexandra Lopez-Djurovic to take me trough the road test by giving me all most important tips. With only one hour driving experience in US I passed the road test without and problems. I strongly recommend to engage Aleksandra if you have similar situation. Like everyone else said, Mario is the best. My daughter just passed her road test after a couple of false starts. We had taught her to drive on our own and she was really competent--but she didn't know the "road test" rules. Just the real world ones. Mario taught her everything she needed to know in a 1 hour lesson, and then a second lesson leading into the road test itself. He's got the Midas Touch! We will definitely return for our two younger kids early on in the process, so they learn the "road test way" first. read more

I had the absolute best experience possible here! First, it was super easy to schedule an appointment and (since I live in the city) I was picked up and dropped off at the train station which was very convenient for me. I only had one lesson with Alexandria who was by far the best driving instructor I've ever had and I passed the test that same day. She not only gave me useful tips that without a doubt helped me pass my test, but she also made me feel so comfortable and confident going into the test. WASTE OF TIME - The class was a glorified english class - the instructor made each of the participants read a paragraph out of the book and even corrected people's pronunciation as they went along. The book was a fill in the blank book with words missing every few paragraphs for us to fill in; the instructor skipped over the parts that didnt have a blank in them and just went through the paragraphs w the blanks so we could complete them. Ive been to the AAA defensive driving course which was light years better and more far more effective in changing my driving habits than this course. I hope no one else wastes their $50 at this course but more importantly an entire saturday or sunday. My wife and i attended, forget about the money, the fact that they wasted 12 hours of our combined time is what drives me crazy. No idea how they have such good reviews on google, wish i had checked yelp prior to attending. In summary, if you want to learn english, consider this course. If you want a defensive driving course or want this to help you on the road, dont waste your time or money here! read more

The first time I got behind the wheel of a car, the instructor (not from New York Auto School, and a story for another review) basically left me scarred and it took me a long time to get myself to try to learn again. When I did, I carefully researched local driving schools and, based on reviews from another site, decided to go with New York Auto School. This turned out to be a fantastic decision- I can't imagine a better driving school. David is an incredibly patient instructor, and does a fantastic job of putting your mind at ease. He also works to help you feel more confident in your abilities- if you've done something right or improved in an area, he will let you know. Unfortunately, I had to relocate before I had learned enough to try for my license. I do plan on continuing taking lessons in my new city, and I'll feel much more confident about getting behind the wheel of a car. People who want to learn driving practice and pass road test exam should not to chose this so called drive school. I had a very bad experience when I take their drive lesson and road test service today. Besides the unreasonable high price, the so called instructor (while the title on his name card is president), David G Cruz, whose purpose seems not want people to learn drive skills and pass test, but make people nervous and fail for the test, so as to earn more money from the people who need to have the drive license. The evaluation here is base on fact --- I have not pass the road test because failed for Parallel Park, which I had asked many times to practice to David G Cruz, when I taking drive lesson with him, while he deliberately ignored and only let me to drove around, and before the test, he told me that I won't fail for Parallel Park, while, after I failed for Parallel Park, he gave me his name card and ask me to take more of his drive class! As an instructor, David G Cruz is not only lack of professional responsibility, but with cheating manner violated to human morality. Besides, his company with address 427 White Plains Rd Eastchester, NY 10709, is not the same company, with address 76 Mamaroneck Ave White Plains, NY 10601, which I first contacted and made contract with by phone, that means they are connected, which might be the reason for the high price of drive school, even higher than other places like manhattan. I hope my experience will be a little helpful to the people who want to get drive license in White Plain. read more

I have only the best things to say about this business: First, they communicate clearly and in a timely fashion. My class had to be rescheduled due to something beyond their control. Yet, they reached out to me with plenty of time to readjust my schedule. This is not a trivial issue and lousy customer service is what sinks most aspiring businesses! New York Auto School excels in this field... Second, the five-hour course, taught by David, was excellent. Let's face it: the material is fairly boring. However, David was able to make it relevant by dropping in lots of helpful tips and advice for the road test. An additional plus was the fact that he was able to wrap it up in no longer than four hours, including a decent break and produce the certificates on the spot. Kudos! Third, they managed to get me an expedited road test within two weeks whereas the DMV website was fully booked up for the next two months or so. For only $50 to skip that queue? Well, that's money well spent. Btw, $50 is also cheaper than most other places as they give you a special price here if you took your 5-hour course with them. Finally, I booked a car and an instructor to give me a one-hour brush up before my road test. It really was worth it... Mario Valencia was the driving instructor - experienced, professional, patient, friendly and also very much fun to spend time with... He showed up with a brand new Toyota that was a very easy to handle for the test besides being a pleasant ride. Since I learnt my driving in Europe, where a different approach is being tested, his tips and tricks was what made all the difference for me on that day... Although I had to learn the hand-over-hand technique (as opposed to feeding) in steering and parallel parking with both hands on the wheel on the spot, Mario was able to shoot down my acquired habits skillfully and ratchet up my self-confidence to tackle the road test, which can be a nerve racking experience, although it sounds simple on paper! All in all, I would recommend Mario to anyone who wants to pass the test on the first try with absolutely no reservations. My two-cents' worth: Go to David's class and ask for Mario to brush up your skills just before your test. With these guys, you cannot go wrong... read more

I hired them to take me to take my road test. I have a feeling that they got a scam going on. I started my driving exam and made my first right (I have a lot of driving experience), pretty simple. The official said that I went over the curb when i did my right turn which is ridiculous because I didn't. If I did, the car would have jumped or I would have hit the car that was parked in the corner. Then she said she let it go and told me to make another right turn. This time, I made sure I was very away from the curb, guess what happened next, the lady literally had the balls to say that I went over the curb and she felt the car jump. Clearly she failed me and that was it. After a lot of thought, I believe they road test is definitely scam. Lost $130. I wonder how many time they do this to get people to do them again. I came here only for my 5 hour test. It got the job done, it started promptly and I got my certification after. The woman that gave the course though (Ms Peters), was ridiculous. She made all of the people there (all 21+ by the way) feel like we were in kindergarden again, the movies presented were all in the late 50s at least. Her information was relatively good, but she made us feel uncomfortable for sure and I wish I had known. Everyone who asked questions definitely got an eye roll or 2 from her. read more
