I ordered a Deluxe 18" pizza to go, took it home, was in a 14" box, measured it, it WAS14", but paid for 18" pizza, can't fit THAT in a14" box, box even says size on bottom, 14". This was our second visit to this wonderful establishment. Being a second generation Italian, I have to say that the food is absolutely delicious and authentic. They make their bread fresh every day so the subs are top notch. This time I had the calzone which again, is made with fresh dough which you can tell by the taste. They don't know how to make pizza. When asked to leave in longer for the cheese to be a little brown they have no clue. They pull the pizza out to soon. Order a margarita one told them to leave in longer they cut and put back in which stuck to the pat. And when they brought to the table it was so thin it tasted like cardboard. They really need to learn how to make pizza just because the cheese is melted it's not done. read more

My in-laws live in Hartsville, so we visited New York By The Slice recently for dinner on a Friday night. It's off the beaten path outside of downtown, but still very popular with the locals. The takeout business was booming, and hearing the workers talk to customers, I could tell they have a lot of "regulars". The restaurant is a bit dated but seemed clean, and the staff were nice. My husband and I had pizza, and his parents ordered a steak sub and a lasagna. Our pizza was full of toppings, but the taste fell short. The sauce was sweeter than I expected, and the onions were still raw. The pizza could have used more time in the oven, and had I done takeout, I would've cooked the pizza longer at home. It did not resemble what I normally think of as New York style pizza. My inlaws really enjoyed their food, particularly the creamy Italian dressing on the house salad. I also tried a few fries, which were hot and delicious. New York By The Slice has a limited selection of bottled beer- my father in law was able to get a Bud Light, and the indoor area has a semi-private seating area that would work for a large group. The prices here are certainly right, and our orders were correct with good service. The pizza just didn't do it for us. I'll give it another shot if my inlaws want to go back and order something else next time. read more

My husband and I came in and ordered pasta. He ordered lasagna and after a 35 minute wait he got a plate with 5 pieces of lasagna in bite size pieces that was cold. We came to have a family dinner we ordered 1 pizza half pepperoni half supreme with olives. The waitress comes back to us the first time saying I'm sorry it's taking so long they made the pizza wrong so they had to remake it. This is after we've been waiting 33 minutes already. So then about 15 minutes later she comes back saying I haven't forgotten about yall I'm sorry they messed it up again and had to remake it again. About 3 minutes later she comes back with the pizza. My husband lifts him a slice up and everything falls off of it as he's picking it up just making a slop of a mess. The waitress came to check on us asking about if the food was good and my husband told her no and showed her the problem she walked alway and didn't say anything. I then went to check out which they said they were going to discount the food when I checked out they gave us a whopping $3 discount. That doesn't even take care of taxes! This is the second time we've had a bad experience here in the past 3 months. We had a $41 bill and was very dissatisfied! read more

Having the privilege and love of the road has brought me to over 40 states. While I crave the bragging rights of a few passport stamps, finding unforgettable eateries has become a welcomed challenge. Moseying on into to NY By The Slice today took me by complete surprise. Whilst majority of authentic Italiano ristorante's don't gaggle over their decorative decisions, their food is precise, delicious, well executed and prevalent in mouthwatering authenticity. Of course I ordered a few classic dishes, which include their salad with house creamy Italian dressing. I absolutely inhaled before taking a photo shoot with unfortunately. The dressing was robust, creamy, with a slight citrusy note that complimented the crisp texture of the salad. Next to dazzle my tastes and dance across my eager palate, was my "pizza by the slice". I was wowed by the juiciness of the fresh toppings used on their veggie option. I opted out of the banana & jalapeño peppers, but truly appreciated this slice of pie. The sauce had definitive notes of basil, very pronounced but welcomed aromatics of garlic, and a perfectly executed crust. The pie did not become soggy or wet from the sauce after eating and cooling down. The mozzarella factor on this slice was a cheese pull of epic proportions! Anddd incoming! Here rests my chicken Marsala take: Pure Amore. The Marsala sauce was so delicately sweet & symphonic! Ah, with its distinctive flavors of woody, yet hinted sun dried fruit were encapsulated in the nuance of honey and garlicky appeal. The glorious and extra generous portion of angel hair pasta graced my plate in a most grandiose presentation. The style of this dish was unique with its use of caramelized onions & 3 huge pieces of chicken breast. There was so many happy tastebuds in my mouth today. I absolutely recommend you try! Their bread loaf is house made and was prolific. This place is pure Italian nostalgia, and all less than $15 a plate. I'm already hungry again for more. I will be back again soon to explore the menu further. What a gem. read more

This place is just a money grab. They do not have quality anything here. Small town, so there isn't many options. A "large" pie measures 12 inches across. The oven is barely operational, crush is doughy and undercooked. No take away packs of anything (which is done SOLELY to save a penny by the owner) go to Big Daddy's. It's 1/4 the price for 3x the pies. The owner of new your by the slice should be ASHAMED of themselves. The audacity of the service workers behind the "counter" that's slammed in the middle of the store was unacceptable and highly unprofessional. She should be ashamed of herself too. This business should not be in this town, we need business owners that care about the quantity of their products, and don't misconstrue the actual size of their menu items. read more

No. Just no. The reviews saying this is "real" New York pizza must be from family and friends, not unbiased. I bought 2 slices and when I opened the box at home, I thought for sure I'd made a mistake and got Hunt's pizza from the convenience store! It was bland, the thin layer of almost nonexistent sauce was sweet, not flavorful and the very thin layer of cheese looked like someone opened a bag of kraft shredded mozzarella and sprinkled it on. Topping was sparse to say the least. Even the crust was disappointing. It was thin and tasteless. Admittedly, I am not a resident here, so I've had plenty of opportunities to eat at and compare various pizza places. Even real NY pizza in NY. This is nothing like the tasty pizza in NY. If I could I'd give 0 stars on the pizza. I also ordered a house salad, which was good. Not great, but it was good and it was big. The restaurant does seem to have some regulars, so there are people that like it. I'll try to post pics. read more

Good pizza Neapolitan style not so much New York as new York are large slices . For around here it's a style pizza crust you do get up north . The only thing is there sauce doesn't have much seasoning to it . That's why the 4 star was for sauce . The staff is friendly quick to serve and prices were good and the place was clean . This is NOT like the chain pizza outlets so if you're expecting that or have only a taste for that, you may be disappointed. ALSO, their salads are FANTASTIC. Went today for my daughters bday, we are originally from Connecticut and have been missing out new haven pizza and Italian food fix. The restaurant can use a little fixing up and decorations but i was not there too review the decor....lol Staff was very friendly and also ran into fellow Connecticut resident that also say it's just like home.
