Summary: Great place to get golf shoes (and other golf products) because of the knowledge and service of the staff. I purchased a pair of Foot Joy golf shoes from New York Golf Center and was amazed by the service I received. Brian, the main person assisting me, was extremely knowledgeable about all things golf and helped me find the best fitting shoe. I don't think I would have found the best fitting shoe for me if it wasn't for Brian's observations about how different shoes fit me and suggestions of other shoes. They also have an immense selection of shoes and some good deals on older models. I highly recommend going to New York Golf Center if you are considering new golf shoes or really anything golf related. I popped my head upstairs to look at some putters and another member of the staff, Jay, was extremely kind and helpful. Excellent service, wide selection and reasonable prices is a winning model. I might recommend this spot because of the large inventory of so many of golf's necessities and accessories. That said, you can find the same -- with less expensive clothing -- at Dick's or other larger sporting goods stores. I went here based on the reviews for good service as I am new to the game and ask a lot of questions. The service was horrible. I basically had to coax Jay into telling me about the carry bags. Only after some demands for details did he tell me about different bags and never came back to follow up, even as my son and I moved about the floor looking at and trying putters. His attention was on the couple trying clubs who were most likely going to spend more than I was planning. I know Dick's salespeople get the same training as specially shops. Nice varied selection of golf attire and accessories, and the staff I dealt with were all friendly, willing to help and not pushy. Also a good selection of clubs on their 2nd floor, which you can try in their simulator if not in use or putting area with no pressure to buy (at least I felt). I also know they can help fit you for clubs (by appointment), but there may be a charge for this. Only drawback is that you will be paying NYC prices unless you catch a sale, but given that there aren't many stores like this one in the city the prices should be expected. read more

RAY didn't return my 2 loft wedges, I called and he explained that they were left with NEW YORK GOLF CENTER and if he could take a look, mistakes happen no big deal. H He caught an attitude stating he doesn't make mistakes and that they were never dropped off. That is a LIE! It wasn't " I am so sorry let me take a look" ? I came in to repair a driver - it was my second stop as the first place I went to said that I should just get a brand new club or get fitted which would have been extremely expensive. Nicole on the other hand spent the time to call up Taylor-Made to find out that the club was under warranty and that they would replace and fix it for no charge. I couldn't be happier with the way I was treated, and the service that Nicole provided - I'll only go back to this store for when I eventually get fitted for new clubs. As the brick and mortar golf shops have all but disappeared, the few that survived either had super deep pockets or were at the top of their game, in terms of adapting to market forces. (Yes, the internet did that) New York Golf Center has a boutique-ish feel within the store, in that, all products are beautifully displayed and are of high quality. FootJoy has a large rotating section of each line (Spring, Summer, Fall and a bit 'o' Winter) they put out to us, the fashion forward, high handicap golfers. [Glenn V''s index: still hovering around a 10.) The PING fitting area is extremely well equipped with an extremely knowledgeable staffer that I had some time to talk with. Clubs purchased off the rack is like buying a suit off the rack. Don't do it, as everyone's golf measurements differ based of height, arm length, like angle, hand size, swing speed and so much more. As PING says " Play Your Best" and you can't play your best without the best equipment. Well, actually you can -- but why take chances? i know zero about golf but new york golf center does and i needed to pick up a birthday gift for my uncle who loves golfing and a new driver, 5 iron and gloves., golf shirt should be enough to make unk very happy.Very helpful staff, nice organized layout of golfing supplies and apparels made my visit a easy one. You can go upstairs and hit some golf balls with the simulator golf range or look at instructional videos on the large screen . Came here to purchase clothing as a gift for someone. They have a very wide selection and brands that are found in your typical sporting goods store, however they are on the pricier side. One thing I really didn't like about this store is that their return policy is 7 days for a full refund and 14 for an exchange... after that you're stuck with it. Like I said, I was buying a gift for someone else so I almost returned it right on the spot when I asked about returns. While shopping I went upstairs to look at the clubs and hit a driver into their range simulator. They have a huge selection of clubs and you can test out any that you pick up and the man upstairs couldn't have been nicer in assisting me. read more

Just writing this to say my recent experience with NYGC was fantastic. Needed to get my clubs regripped, and then ended up looking at new drivers and putters. I haven't upgraded in a while, but Tyler was super helpful with making sure I found the driver that really works with my game. There aren't a ton of options in NYC to get your golf game in line, but at least I feel like NYGC cared and was willing to spend a bunch of time with me to get it right. I showed up today in desperate need of a regrip on my driver. I found an employee on the top floor helping several other customers size clubs when I showed him my grip and said I needed a new one badly before an outing I have on Monday. He informed me that club repair generally only occurs on weekdays when their repair guy is in. I was disappointed that I didn't pay closer attention to their website - rookie mistake. Fortunately, he was an absolute legend and told me to go select a grip from downstairs and he'd do it real quick. 15 minutes later I walked out absolutely thrilled with my experience. 100% will be back in the future for most, if not all, my golfing needs. read more

Just wanted to write a quick review of several great experiences I've had at the NY Golf Center, and more so with one of their best sales associates, Mark. About a month or so ago, one of my favorite Callaway hybrid's broke while playing a round, and I brought it to NY Golf Center and Mark, since they are an authorized Callaway Retailer. Mark was extremely friendly and approachable about the matter, and was able to get my club replaced totally free of charge from Callaway. A few weeks later I was contacted by the store that my new club had come in, to which I can't thank Mark enough. Today, I popped into to pick up a few things, bumped into Mark again and couldn't express enough gratitude about how he had helped me out. He then proceeded to help me pick out a few more items and answer some questions. It's due to amazing customer service and attention to detail displayed by Mark over the last few months, as well as the plethora of apparel/equipment/accessories/etc why I will continue to come back to this store and purchase all my golf essentials. read more

I'm giving this a four because although Mark Norwood was very attentive and courteous(very professional )as I was trying on several shoes to which I liked and purchased. Very happy with shoes. However upstairs was very different, I am looking to purchase a pull cart and putter too, spent time looking and waiting and noticed both items had no price on either and as i was waiting I made contact with different sales person, he just went down stairs without even a mention that he would return or send someone. wow only 2 reviews? NYGC is without a doubt the best and most comprehensive golf store in NYC. If you can find a better store here I want to know about it. The ground floor is always fully stocked with the seasons latest clothing lines from Nike, Adidas, etc. If you need Tiger Woods newest red shirt, they will almost certainly have it and much more. They have pretty much the whole line of the new seasons Nike, Adidas, Footjoy etc shoes. Upstairs is where the gear is. NYGC definitely has the largest and most diverse selection of clubs in the city. More importantly, upstairs they have a number of sales reps who play golf and know how to guide your selections. I have been counseled out of more expensive drivers in favor of something more suitable to my style. As an added bonus, there is a video simulator where you can get some practice swings with real golf balls. They've got a pretty big selection of bags and travel bags also. I cant think of anything a golf store should have that NYGC doesn't have in a cutting-edge and diverse variety. read more

Speaking from a woman's point of view.....the shoes are meh, the clothes selection is great, pretty good sales in the back. Usually someone is around to ask if I need help but tonight I was outright bypassed by a sales guy so he could get to a well-dressed 40-something male in the shoe department. NYGC is cool from right when you walk in the door. You can get your own personal locker, so you don't get suspected of shoplifting, and you don't have to carry your bags around with you. I've been going here for the last three years, and it's a great place, but honestly, I'd compare it to an election where you can't truely believe in one canidate, so you vote for the one who you hate least, and of the few golf store options in NYC, I hate this one the least.(Is that like the lowest of compliments? I hate you the least...lol) I've never had any problems with the quality of products I bought here. So far: Footjoy shoes, a Odyssey Black series putter, gloves, Winn DryTac grips, a Nike bag with stand, and a few other odds and ends like rule book, tees, and also the NYC area Golf Map, a must have. And I am really looking forward to getting a total club fitting as soon as I get my swing back to how it was when I was a 12 handycap before I took that 12 year break from golf to go play in that band in Seattle. I was in the used club section of NYGC looking for a good used 2-iron, and I was listening in on a fitting session, and was truly impressed in all the fine details that their equipment picks up on in the golf swing, ball speed, ball spin, etc.. Can't wait to get my fitting. The service has always been hit or miss, but that's okay, it's a busy place. Upstairs you have to beg for help, while downstairs I've seen anywhere from 2-4 people hanging out behind the cash register just talking. The guy who was getting my grips, came back out ten minutes later, looked at me, yawned and said "Oh sorry, I forgot.", then went and got my grips. The clothing selection is amazing, and is the star of all those NYGC commercials on Golf Channel. But I would like to see more cotton. It's just my personal preference, because the whole golf industry has shifted to polyester, but I can't wear that because it's just really staticky on me, so I get my stuff at Macy's. But, like I said, they have amazing clothes, I just can't wear none of it :( And as with all modern day, have China make it, products. A good inspection, and reading a few reviews is in order. Example, I went here for a ball retriever, and all they had was this flimsy ball retriever with a cheap plastic head. I go home and read the reviews, and sure enought, words like flimsy and broken head are used, so I order an old school Orlimar with an aluminum cup head from Amazon... Now you say, it's just a ball retriever? True, but I want one that lasts forever. I don't buy golf balls. YOU pay $45 for a dozen ProV1's, and after you lose them, I play with FREE ProV1's. Get it? The color description matched the one I was looking for but the corresponding picture online did not match. In light of the whole Tiger Woods scandal, I decided to do my first review of golf spots in the city. I only come when I am able to drag hubby out to do a little shopping with me. I don't play golf but hubby is an avid golfer and anything golf related just turns him on. We come here to this bi level store, and he loves to just touch and feel the clubs. They have a section on the top level that you can practice your swings with and I believe you can get your clubs customized. I love seeing him in this store because it's like a kid in a candy shop. Prices seem a bit high here, but the quality and selection is pretty good. Nice to have a golf shop to meet all you golfing needs in a fairly big space right in the middle of the city. read more
