Airtrain was not working, and the staff seemed miserable, bored and totally disinterested to help the commuters. It all worked out in the end but was still better than sitting in traffic so bumping up to 2 stars.

Update, this train service has definitely improved ( it only took several years). lol, it is still not great, but it gets the job done. It is scheduled to be replaced by a more modern train that is currently under construction, but it will be a few years before it is online.

First time using this form of transportation. It's very crowded so be prepared to stand and hold on to something.

Waiting area. Thank goodness it's blowing outside!!

Quick air train to Newark airport so it's very convenient. From the station, it's 2 stops into NY Penn. Easy, fast, cheap way to get into the city. The waiting area at the Newark Station was def a plus when it's blustery and raining!

The Newark train station is probably the fastest of the three airports if you are leaving from Penn Station. The air train from Newark feels cramped and old with very oddly sectioned cars but at least it worked on my last trip.

Late again...24 mins, but it gurts when its at 131am and you need to cqtch another train at Penn

NJ transit sux. The trains are old, and rickety. When you are trying to catch another train at 131am, NJ transit hardly succeeds. Another delay, the story of NJ transit

Half the time you get diverted into a bus, only rarely is it running in both directions

First time here. Seems easy to navigate but kinda difficult judging where the Amtrak or NJ Transit systems pick up. Choo choo!

Prepare to wait for 15+ minutes for any train to arrive. If you are in a rush take the bus or grab an uber.

I think was more economical than taking an Uber/Lyft, but more importantly the time would have been constant.

The lobby itself is nice and fairly spacious but In more recent years it has become a safe haven for the homeless prompting the lobby to locked up after midnight. The warmth of the lobby is always welcome but there are back steps to access the platforms from the outside and even an elevator. The lobby windows hours are narrow being only 6am to 1pm so if you a special kind of ticket such as a bus pass you have to make it there during this time. It isn't open on weekends so if you work a regular job how are you supposed to get a ticket of this type? I know this is more of an NJ Transit issue but i think they should be more accomodating. Overall though its one of the better stations on this line and pretty well, kept up.

The options you have for food or quick pick me ups are helpful and actually worth going to. Realistically, Penn Station feels pretty safe to be in throughout the day. People mind their business and get to where they need to go. You have a constant police force there, whether on foot or on a Gator. You have buskers playing music towards the subway entrance. Few members of the unhoused community use Penn Station for shelter at night, not a big deal for me - I'd rather they have a roof under their head than being outside. Penn Station gets busy during big sports days, keep that in mind.

I pass through Penn Station whenever I take the LIRR. The LIRR Concourse in Penn Station looks…read morelike the terminal building of an airport because of the numerous digital departure boards, fast food restaurants and specialty shops, but unlike an airport, the Concourse has a limited number of open public seating and moving walkways. Penn Station was renovated to look like a luxury mall. I was impressed to see a boutique liquor store. It is called Penn Cellars, and they sell my favorite sparkling rosé--Hampton Water (by Jon Bon Jovi and Son)--refrigerated and at room temperature. The Concourse also has a boutique nail spa, a bagel cafe, a speciality chocolate shop and more. All that is nice, but there needs to be better operational integration. There ought to be moving walkways to transport passengers from the LIRR to the subway, buses, AMTRAK, and NJ Transit. I get out of breath sometimes, walking to where I need to go. Also, it would be nice to have staff guide and assist passengers to their connections, especially individuals with disabilities and heavy luggage. Penn Station will be undergoing a multibillion dollar renovation starting in 2027. I hope that the architects design a station that is more functional and efficient. Until that is done, Penn Station is basically a mediocre station for commuters.
