The Newarker at the Hilton Newark Airport has a terrific Avocado toast that comes with a salad with two eggs on the side. The coffee was terrific and plenty of it but the orange juice was the Tropicana bottle juice. The breakfast buffet was still not available because of the pandemic. The ambiance was nice, the seating cozy but the music was rather loud for an early morning breakfast. The gentleman that waited on us, which I think was the manager, was curt but very friendly with people he knew. The total check was approximately 40.00 for two depending on the items you selected. They get pretty busy at Angie's which is basically a bar for the Newarker, is outside the restaurant in the Hilton lobby and where our party usually sat. The menu, for whatever reason, is more extensive at the bar than in the restaurant even though your entree choices are exactly the same. Dined in Newarker for breakfast and Angie's for dinner over a week recently for work from Tuesday to Friday. Food rates somewhere between 2.5 to 3, service is a 5 and prices knock it all down to about a 2. You're a captive audience, though, especially when nor'easters blow in unless you want to wait an hour or more for delivery or brave walking through Elizabeth. We opted for convenience for all but one night. And speaking of that 5 point service, Hilton Newark Airport management must have had a huge pep rally because the staff are immensely friendly compared to last time. I mean breakfast and dinner. Over the top, sometimes, and you start to wonder what's really in the water. No empty cup goes unnnoticed, checks come and get paid quickly, and dirty dishes disappear. With cheer. The downside, of course, is the captive prices. Members of my group loved the French onion soup. A small bowl cost $11. I didn't care for the potato soup with courgettes, even less when it cost $10. Others opted for the half chicken, skirt steak, rib eye, wedge salad or burgers. Fries are meh. With the exception of the French onion soup, everyone gave the food an "ok." Entrees cost $20 - 30 each for a fairly small portion. I'll grant the Margherita flatbread was a fair size and fed me for three meals at $17.50 but the quality was middling. The true mind blower was the identically priced shrimp cocktail which came sitting atop a bed of cocktail sauce (yuk) and had to wipe off. 5 medium shrimp for $18? That's one expensive half lemon. On the other hand, the breakfast buffet starting at 6 AM week days is fairly good. They serve a choice of pork or turkey sausage links, blueberry blintzes, grits, oatmeal, scrambled eggs and a daily potato and egg dish. One day they had bacon and egg empenadas, another mini quiche lorraine and another day an excellent egg white frittata. I also really liked the spinach and quinoa potato hash! Pair that with some dry wheat toast and you have something that while not necessarily healthy is hearty enough for lots of laps around EWR! read more

When I first read all the horrid reviews for this place, my heart sank. With a long night of work ahead and no time to venture back into the city, I headed downstairs for what I was sure would be a disappointment - I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. Though this Hilton isn't known for the friendliest of hotel staff, my waitress was pleasant and attentive and checked on me several times during the meal, giving suggestions when I asked about certain options. I settled on a Newarker Cobb salad because it boasted bacon and avocado, in addition to chicken and tomatoes. I was pleasantly surprised by the size and amount of topping. There must've been a whole avocado, a lot of chicken and bacon, and more tomato than I usually ratio for myself. Overall, great salad. The Mai tai was decent - I've had better, but certainly not bad at all. I also had the molten cake for dessert - and while yes, I've had better, I'd definitely have this one again too. read more

I went here as I was staying at the motel. I had the ribeye steak with baked potato and 2 glasses of merlot. The merlot was a excellent choice ! The steak consisted of what I think was a broiled ribeye, a slightly undercooked potato and 3 sprigs of broccoli. The bill was 97 dollars. The steak accounted for 47 dollars of the bill. Ordered it to go My toast was burnt at the crust, untoasted middle, and wrapped in a white linen napkin that had hair on it. My eggs tasted like they came off the continental buffet. The potatoes were anything but blissful and I saw no red. They were fried with little flavor except a weird after taste. And all for the price of $15. Would not be back. Upon arrival i found the atmosphere highly comforting and the general feel of home. The bartender, john, incredibly nice. Very kind, got the order right (which is less common than youd think in food establishments so i get very excited when everything's correct) He checked on us enough - not too often and not too rarely, the perfect median. I ordered a burger which are very hit or miss for me, and i loved it. Huge hit. The chef, Phil, came out to check on us and make sure everything was good, as the bar area wasn't very busy at the time we were there. The chocolate cake was amazing, a lot of rich flavor packed into a warm, velvety, hockey puck sized chunk of perfection. We weren't rushed out, and the bathroom was nice. This is a business hotel with a solid business restaurant. I sometimes wonder if harsh reviews reflect an unwillingness to appreciate it for what it is. My husband and I are here on business. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server was quick to take our order. The food was timely and my Cobb salad was perfect. If zero stars were an option, that would have been my choice. Hands down the worst mainline Hilton breakfast I have ever suffered through. The service was curt (but it is Newark, so no surprise there). There were at least eight working in a small restaurant, but much like a road crew there were five standing and three working. So on to the food; The coffee was actually cold. (Thanks a lot for a whole carafe of cold coffee.) The scrambled eggs were the weird ones (think boil in bag) and the one thing that I expected to be good was the bagel, wrong. It was overly chewy and not dense enough. I also tried the turkey and pork sausage and both were tough and hard to cut much less chew. The French toast and potatoes didn't look edible in the first place so I skipped that mess. The only nice thing I have to say is the melon and blueberries were decent. All in all a disappointment. I've come to expect more from Hilton. Thankfully I am a diamond member and get free breakfast, because free was the right price for this. read more

This is my second experience eating at the Newarker. It's tucked away on the right of the lobby floor, across from the bar. The hostess was friendly and gave us seats right away. The waiter was at our table while we sat asking if we would like water to start. The ordering experience was simple. The menu isn't overly large so it was pretty easy to pick something that looked good. My companion asked a question about the portion of the Bolognese entrée. The waiter explained that it's filling, but not large enough for two. He was correct. I personally ordered the Asian Salmon with the cabbage salad. It was DELICIOUS. Light, but filling. During the meal the waiter was attentive and checked on us to see if we needed anything else. Anytime our water glasses were half empty they were filled immediately. It was a very positive dining experience. My only compliant for this visit and the first visit was the temperature. It was FREEZING. I would however recommend this restaurant if you are staying in the Hilton Hotel at the airport. read more

The only reason this place is getting two stars is because of the friendly staff. Besides that, the service was bad (2 waiters for the entire place) and the food was subpar for a Hilton Restaurant. I ordered the Angus Cheeseburger and when it arrived, it looked like something I could have ordered from a mom and pop joint. The lettuce was wilted and came with two PIECES of tomato. The menu is limited and the food is average at best. for dinner I had a cold hamburger on a stale bun with Luke warm heat lamp fries. the warm apple strudel was literally 2 Pillsbury toaster strudels and diced apples. for lunch they couldn't accommodate our "large" crowd so they put out a sandwich buffet???? ham, turkey, cheese, bread ran out of pasta salad and mayo. they charged $18 for the "sandwich buffet". read more

The food is excellent. I initially saw the low rating and was off put and decided to drive around town to the higher rated restaurants. All looked to very seady so we decided to just come back to the hotel restaurant. The food was AMAZING!!!!!! I had the Ancho glazed honey chicken and the French onion soup. Both were delicious. I recently dined here and I just wanted to say that the food was absolutely delicious. I started out with the french onion soup which is always my go to. It was outstanding! Next I had the pub burger which was nothing short of perfect. For dessert I ordered the NY cheesecake which I must say had a wonderful presentation. From the whipped cream to the raspberry drizzle, you can tell it was well put together. Not a bad price point either for a hotel. I think all in all my tab came out to just under $50.00. Not bad for a lunch. I also want to recognize Mina at the bar and the manager Rocco. These two employees made sure I was well taken care of from the moment I arrived to the time I left even offering complimentary coffee upon my departure. I will absolutely return! read more

Stale fries and a soggy Cuban. I read the earlier reviews and decided to try something different. I thought it would be a safe choice, but I was wrong. Same result as the others that have reviewed this place. Cuban and fries for $15. Crazy. Same thing at a cheap deli for less than $6 and it likely would have been better.
