We arrived around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon , to my surprise the place was completely empty and I was wondering why since it was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon . I soon realized why . Sat at the bar and the bartender hands us the drink menu , no greetings , no good afternoon . The kind of thing you would expect from a bartender since they would want to keep you at the bar . My husband and I came for dinner with a reservation on a bustling Saturday evening. I could tell that it was very busy since it took a while for the server to stop by the table and the water was served in wine glasses. I ordered The Red Wedding (hendricks gin, tart cherry juice, apricot liquor, lemon juice, prosecco, glitter, maraschino cherry, flute) which was delicious but was served about 1 minute before the entrees so there was not much of an opportunity to enjoy it. For my entree, I had the short rib served with cheesy grits and collard greens. I enjoyed the grits and greens, but the short rib was overcooked and not tender. My husband's burger tasted delicious and made me wish that I ordered it instead. For dessert, we had the creme brûlée, which was served a couple of minutes after ordering it. At first I was surprised at the quick service, but then I was underwhelmed since the dish was completely cold. It seemed as if it was sitting out for a while, so that was disappointing. It's a struggle finding food in the suburbs that compares to restaurants in New York City proper, but this place does a great job with the overall vibe, menu variety, and fresh ingredients. It includes more Mediterranean dishes like deliciously-flavored guacamole mixed with pomegranate seeds and chopped olives. And it has a great dessert menu such as baked cookie dough mixed with vanilla ice cream on top, among other items. The staff seem to work hard for serving the food on-time despite the bustling nature of having many customers dining in. The salmon dish tasted great, coupled with Parmesan-flavored couscous and grilled vegetables. Service was a tad slow and there seemed to be a lack of communication between our two servers. We booked restaurant for a rehearsal dinner this past Friday. We had tons of people coming from out of town (120) and they gave us the whole downstairs and bar area. Me and my girlfriend stopped in recently to grab a drink and an app after enjoying the day in the nearby towns. Upon entering the music was blasting but one of the waiters came over and asked me if it was too loud after seating us and I said, yes, a bit too much and he turned it down. That was nice of him considering I couldn't hear myself think. lol. It's a vibey spot and everyone there seemed happy to be working there. Our waiter was kind and his service was great. I ordered us a bottle of sparkling water to get started and then The Red Wedding cocktail for me and a Rumbunctious for her. They were both super tasty. We also ordered the crispy sticky calamari and it left little be desired in the tasty department. It was not crispy, but more like soggy. I had no idea it came with sauce all over it instead of on side or I would have told him to put the sauce in a condiment cup. Top 3 WORST burger I've had in my life. Took a long time to come out of the kitchen on a Tuesday night at 9PM. I could forgive this if a quality burger was provided but the meat was over season and dry (asked for medium but beyond well done with burnt char marks on them burger and bun). My first time at MoonShine was on a Friday night with a group of 8. I had been referred by a friend who highly recommended it, especially for a girls night. The praise included a diverse menu and affordable, interesting cocktails. Enough said! The signature cocktail menu was extensive, and if you can't find something you'll enjoy, the bartenders can probably make you anything you want. There is separate bar and bar seating from the dinner/meal service, which backed up the drink orders on a Friday night. Definitely plan to order your drinks first while you check out the food menu. We ended up getting a variety of bar bites and appetizers to share, with some entrees including the cajun chicken, burgers and chicken sandwiches. The sandwiches were all great, and the table lived the burratta, calamari, and shrimp cocktail appetizer! We wished we had room to taste more of the menu!The only negative comment on the food was the caesar salad dressing does not include anchovies, and instead is included on top as a garnish. Avoid if it's not to your taste. Aside from the surprise of the caesar salad, everything was delicious, and very well cooked. The ambiance was beautiful and swanky, without being over the top. Service was great last night, but the food and cocktail left me disappointed. The tuna tartare had the consistency of my cat's wet food. I like when tuna is chopped a little rougher, this was really like a puree of tuna. The avocado was equally over puréed and together it was just mushy on top of mushy. My recommendation would be to fix the texture.. the three chips weren't nearly enough for the amount of tartare. They should be bigger or give you a few more crackers to eat the tartare with. The cocktail was so strong and imbalanced it tasted like our pathetic attempts at cocktails in college. Too strong, no clue what we were doin, ratios off. That's what my drink tasted like. I wouldn't get a drink there again, nor get the tartare. Perhaps the other dishes are better. My dining companion had what was essentially an old fashioned which came in a martini glass, which seemed a bit peculiar. Stick to classics. The space is nice with modern decor. Mid size rooftop. They have a DJ on Thursday and weekends nights. The drinks are good. Here's where it's has gone south... when I first started going there the food was and had flavor.. the last two times that I have gone here... the food wasn't good... either not seasoned well and not fully cooked through (wings). I don't know if they have new kitchen staff, but something has to give. It's definitely a date night spot. I'm hoping the next time I visit, the food is better. read more

My plate looked and tasted like it had been reheated three times. It was oily, mushy, and with a weird sour odor that honestly made me lose my appetite. One bite was enough to tell it wasn't fresh. The drink situation was just as bad. This place clearly doesn't care about their customers or their reputation. It's filthy, poorly run, and serves food I wouldn't feed to anyone. Stopped in for happy hour before our 7:30 show at the Papermill. They have a lovely happy hour with 1/2 appetizers and drink specials. We tried the whipped ricotta, prosciutto arugula pizza, garlic parmesan wings and the burger. Everything was great! The burger was cooked to temperature and the fries were crispy. Party size: 11 people I was initially excited to try this place for the sheer fact that they have the balls to offer a prix fixe menu at only $35. Which must mean they're pretty confident in their food. I was utterly and completely disappointed. The time it took us to complete our meal was 3 hours. The waiters never came regularly, the courses were served in intervals of 30-45 min it felt like. You'd finish your first course and be left waiting almost an hour till your second course. We asked for some of our dishes to be packed in to go containers and they never made it back to our table. The food was mediocre and the waiter messed up our check even after confirming with us twice to confirm items. This place is disorganized and quite frankly puts out mediocre food. The servers are clueless and the kitchen didn't even look like they were trying to rush orders out. Do yourself a favor and skip this place and go anywhere else. read more

An amazing hole in the wall in Millburn, another great restaurant, hidden away that needs to be discovered! The specials are absolutely incredible both containing ropa Vieja yum! After visiting the Turtle Back Zoo in the morning, we decided to stop by at this hole in the wall spot just a few mins away from Zoo. The atmosphere was vibrant and fun in the bar seating area. Service was energetic and decent. The food was quite good and really tasty. The appetizers are an excellent choice. Try the Whipped Ricotta and Mediterranean Guacamole. The main dish of veggie fajitas with eggs and cheese were served over spicy collard greens and rice on the side. Now for the show stopper! The rum raisin bread pudding did not come to play. It was equal parts soft and crunchy. Served hot, with the vanilla ice cream for balance and just when you think it can't get any better you bite into a caramelized pecan with ice cream and you're in heaven. The food was great, our waiter who checked on us often was awesome and very knowledgeable and I will definitely be back over the summer when we visit the Turtle Back Zoo. read more

The Caesar salad we split was well made (although it would have been more elegant if they'd split it for us). Both of us really enjoyed our entrees and the dessert we also shared. You can pick 3 from either a drink, appetizer, entree, or dessert. I got a Bellini, mac & cheese, and the short rib & egg fajitas. All the food was incredible. Everyone at the table loved all their food. The service was great. They were accommodating of someone who was vegan which was nice. The Korean Tuna Sashimi was a bland, cold slab of fish with no dipping sauce and an uninspired scoop of rice. It tasted off, and when I sent it back, I was interrogated instead of accommodated. My replacement cheeseburger took ages, leaving my friend to eat alone. No apology, no check-in. Non-alcoholic options? None--unless you count a begrudgingly offered Heineken 0.0. Plan an event at Moonshine (I had never been there) so that was nerve wracking, but Victor was kind, patient, and honest! He answered all my silly questions & there were no hidden costs. The day of the event went great! JoJo and staff members were attentive, helpful, and professional. We had our own bartender, even if we mostly drank Mocktails... they were made to perfection. Bartender recommended DEPARTED SOLES BREWING PHILOSO RAPPER beer since I told him I like local beers. They are in Jersey City. ABV 8%. It is so smooth but hitting me hard. The ambiance is very dark in here. Very hard to read menu. I had to use a flashlight on my phone. I also ordered a Moonshine Burger Med-rare. Burger was juicy but don't think it was med-rare. Pommes frites were cooked perfectly but a lil too salty. The service is a bit slow but not rushing. Definitely a nice hangout for a beer and bar food. I'll come back and I do recommend. read more

When I think of a supper club, I think of high quality, freshly made food. Unfortunately the food was anything but. The food was mediocre at best. While the portions and price were good - the quality of food simply wasn't there. The meal started with an appetizer of garlic parmesan wings. They were fine. No complaints there. They weren't great but they weren't bad and they were flavorful. The lobster eggs benedict entree had poached eggs that were overcooked. Instead of having a soft center, the yolk was almost entirely cooked. The lobster was likely canned or packaged given the dry qualities of it. The potatoes that came with it were very oily and lacked taste with maybe one or two peppers thrown in. I'm not sure if it was meant to be some sort of hash but some potatoes were cut but there were almost entire small potatoes mixed in. The creme brulee was obviously sitting in the fridge and the exterior sugar layer wasn't warmed up at all. It was a fairly big portion and the taste was ok. The flourless chocolate cake was dense and dry. It was very chocolaty but the denseness of it was just too much. Service was good. Water was refilled without asking and any asks were immediately acted on. Server was polite and attentive. If you value a good amount of food for a good price, this is a good place to go, especially these days with how much restaurant food costs. But if quality is more your thing, I would skip the place. read more

When we asked for things to go because we had to leave the server was incredibly rude and told us it was our fault that we had to wait over an hour for the food. I opened my food, it looked THROWN in, salad tossed over so all the crunchy bits were on the bottom, like roll had like 2 pieces of lobster. I was ready to just get over it, but this was the worst lobster roll I've ever had in my whole life. the bread was so stale I didnt eat it and, for some reason the lobster looked like it was cooked on a flat top. read more
