Newaygo Brewing kind of caught me by surprise. It's one of the better breweries I've been to, at least in terms of variety. The beers are good if you like strong flavors. The Coconut Brown tastes like coconut. The fruity beers taste fruity. I mean, you usually see fruits listed in a beer's description, but these are heavy on those flavors. For some, that's a good thing, and for me, it was a good thing. The other part is that their food is kind of different than most breweries. I usually don't like places with a ton of variety, but their options are different and weird and worth trying. For example, they have sandwiches on Naan bread and tacos in puffy shells. They also have cauliflower crust and sweet potato pizzas. Oh yeah, everything also tasted pretty good. Newaygo is a small town and maybe that's why the brewery feels like it can do whatever it wants. I think that's a good thing and worth a stop if you're around. Some have complained about service and that's not too surprising. It's a basic hipster joint where everyone wears beanies when it's warm out. So I guess if that bothers you... maybe this isn't your place? read more

Most places in the county are closed on Sunday when we are all craving a good pizza. Fortunately, Newaygo Brewery isn't one of those closed. It was an easy online order and payment. I was given an accurate time for pickup and good instructions to do so on the app. There were a lot of choices under specialty pizzas that would be interesting to try, including a Crab Rangoon Pizza that sounds good. We ordered the one that was heavy in the meat and weren't disappointed. The round sausages were different than what is normally presented on pizza, but gave it a distinct flavor compared to the generic sausage clumps. The crust was of the flakey and light density with a little burning around the edge (a good thing). The pies only come in 10 or 12 inches, but enough for two and a slice to eat at midnight. This is a cute place in the beautiful "Up North Michigan". The beer and sangria are excellent. Had the buffalo chicken pizza which is so flavorful and savory. The chef brought out his key lime taco dessert which could rival any key lime pie in key west! Great service too! read more

I've had a mixed bag of experiences here. The first time, I tried a couple flight sized pours of a few beers and thought everything was decent. My friend's bottle of cherry wine was actually really quite excellent, and I typically am not a cherry wine enthusiast. We really enjoyed the pretzel bites but found we had far more cheese than we needed, and we appreciate them letting us order a few extra pretzel bites to achieve that perfect pretzel to cheese ratio. On our most recent visit, I made the mistake of ordering the salmon to accompany the macaroni and cheese. My friend, a local, warned me that it probably wouldn't be fresh caught salmon and I might be disappointed, but I'm usually even okay with salmon that has been frozen. Not this time. It was tough, overcooked, looked all smashed and limp, and tasted off. Fortunately, they didn't charge us for it and I had ordered it on the side since my husband is not a fan of salmon so it didn't ruin the macaroni and cheese itself. The pork taco and tamale plate, however, was to-freaking die for. Alas, on this visit none of the beers really did it for any of us, and the homemade root beer was a little flat, although very tasty. It definitely didn't feel like a $50 lunch, which is what we were out after Neil, my husband's beer, and gratuity. Next time I'm in town I'll probably just grab the tacos to go. If you're there on a normal day in Newaygo where this place might have its regular 20-30 customers a day; great! If you're not a regular and you're there at any other point in time; Stopped by there on Sunday afternoon (they were probably busier than they'd ever thought they'd be when they first opened the restaurant) and ordered their cheese bread as a appetizer. It came out undercooked and my girlfriend and I each tried piece and after talking to one of the waiters we gave them the benefit of the doubt thinking that maybe 'undercooked is the way they like it up here,' but after a 2nd piece we had to go up to the counter (thanks, COVID) and tell the bartender about it to see if she could either take it back and off of the bill or fix it somehow, someway. They ended up being able to throw it back in the oven and when it finally came back it was worth eating! My GF ordered the Gyro and I ordered the 12" grain crust pizza with pepperoni, jalapeño, and banana peppers, and her gyro came out and was awesome! Until she ended up sick 15 hours later. My pizza came out and it looked like a 'Kid Cuisine' or something else that you'd be praying you're staying at a hotel or that it was carry out if you received it because it was only halfway cooked and needed to be cooked up once you brought it back "home" to eat. All in all the experience was nothing that we were willing to pay $40 for. If we could go back we would drive the extra 15-20 miles away from here just to get a properly cooked Little Caesar's pizza or something else else. It was NOT worth the Time, Wait, Money, Sickness, Undercooked-Food, or anything else you could possibly imagine on a that day or any one like it. Love Newaygo Brewing! I'm from Newaygo (moved to GR in 2011) and always take time to stop in for some GR style craft beers. The pizza is amazing. The staff and owners are also super awesome. My dad set up a fun scavenger hunt for Christmas and one of the stops brought us there and they were so cool to participate and talk to us for a while. Great staff and owners. read more

I got the pizza and breadsticks to go today on my visit back home. I got a $12 12" pizza with 3 toppings (they accidentally added ham as well). Both were very average and makes me wonder if the pizza would have been better straight from the oven. I liked the large sausage topping. I heard the breadsticks were supposed to be great, but I found nothing epic about them. The order could have used more dipping sauce compared to the two tiny containers provided. We decided to make the drive to Newaygo and I was glad we did. Went into the Newaygo Brewing Co. and ordered two flights of beer, the homemade sausage kebab sampler, and a bowl of tortellini soup. Great beer and dinner was enjoyable. The beer is well made and made the drive worthwhile. Newyago Brewing is easily one of my favorite breweries. All of the beer is delicious and the food is soooo good. You can tell everyone who works there really loves what they do. And the owners are the greatest people. It is worth the drive from Grand Rapids for us and my parents drive from Mount Pleasant all of the time. It is definitely a must-go place in Michigan. We stopped there during the Lumberjack Festival for lunch. They had a limited menu because of the festival so I ordered the broccoli soup and my husband asked for a grilled cheese sandwich (which was on the menu for children). They refused to give him that so he said he'd pay for an adult version of that. They still refused. After some discussion and them continuing to refuse any of his requests he decided to not eat at all. I got my soup and it was horrible! It tasted like it was spoiled. The broth was a very grainy, sandy texture. We left without eating. We would never go here again and would NOT recommend it. If I could give them a negative number. I would. As excited as I was to try a brewery in Newaygo Michigan, I was disappointed with my experience unfortunately. The brewery has a vibe of a seated restaurant that happens to make their own beer rather than a brewery that serves food. The actual bar is small and uninviting and there is no space to hang out or dance to the music. Just "wait to be seated" then stay at the table until you leave... Our initial server was great. Very friendly and in-depth in explaining the beers. Unfortunately after tasting four beers including the IPA, the wheat ale, a nutty beer and another I don't remember and being totally unimpressed with all, we ordered our obligatory pints and stayed seated. The food menu is OK, I heard the pizza is decent but honestly can't rate the brewery on the food. About 10 minutes in, our server said he was going to leave and pass us over to another server. She asked us how we were doing every two minutes and brought us our checks way prematurely. It all worked out because neither of us could finish our mediocre beers so we paid and ventured onward. We ended up at Newaygo Brewery and could not have been happier with the service and food. Pizza was out of this world along with the salad. Beer and hard cider were also top notch. Not impressed at all. First off - The prices! Wow - steep! For Newaygo and for the quality and content. I'm from the Detroit area - these were Detroit prices but without the extras and the perks. Food was okay at best...really....it was nothing I couldn't have heated up in a microwave myself.. The beer was good...I had the Luxury Braggot and it was pretty tasty... The service was a little weak...either our server was new or was filling in for a server...he just didn't have that friendly Oomph that good servers usually have. And if you're the owner, why not walk around and engage your clients...don't sit at the bar like a stick...talk to your patrons...in an area like Newaygo, I'm sure a good portion of the clientele are just passing through so make them want to come back to see you... Newaygo Brewing is nestled in the picturesque downtown of it's namesake. Parking was easy and we passed by an outdoor store with a sign labeling Newaygo as a "Drinking Village with a Fishing Problem." We stopped in after some snowshoeing and since it was the middle of the day it was pretty empty. The staff was very nice and the 8 samples we tried were all top notch. They've got a good stable of beers with a little creativity mixed in. The coconut brown ale was interestingly drinkable and their Tis the Season was officially the first dark saison I've every had (or heard of). Overall it was a great place to warm the cockles after a bit of snow fun and I'd like to visit Newaygo in the summer and do a bit of fishing. Good job guys! read more

This was our first visit. Menu is interesting and not the same-old same-old. Beer/cider selection is interesting. Tried one cider, one beer. Both good. This is a good place for food and drink. Service is another matter. The service started out good, then became bad. The food came out quickly (lettuce wraps as appetizer, which was OK -- the chicken seemed to be canned chicken, but maybe I'm wrong). The server brought us a container for our leftovers and cleared our plates. Then she disappeared for a half hour! Never brought us the bill. We tried several times to get the attention of our waitress. In fact, she was serving/taking orders at the table directly behind us. But, she ignored us, and disappeared. She was at one point hanging out at the front cash register (with the register person), and we signaled her to come over. We thought she was heading our way. But, no, she disappeared again. Finally, after a half-hour of sitting, we flagged the waitress down firmly (I was a bit pissed by this point), and she acted as if she was clueless about our check. But we did get the check, and the waitress did not apoligize for the wait. A quite unsatisfactory experience. So, compared to all other pub/restaurant experiences, this one has to be down-rated severely, regardless of its other good qualities. Management should be training its staff to immediately provide a check, and then pick up the check very soon after it is provided. There is really no excuse for the inadequacies of our particular server. Common sense should tell you that once a table is cleared, and the leftovers are boxed, the guests are ready to pay the bill and leave. Management needs to be on top of this! read more

There aren't a lot of restaurants between Muskegon and Big Rapids, so we sure are happy Newaygo Brewing Company serves food. We got there at about 6:00 pm and had a 20 minute wait. It was busy, and all of our server's tables had just turned at once. While we had a little wait before we got greeted, even though she was busy, Amanda did a great job being helpful and she was very cheerful (when she could have appeared stressed and overwhelmed). We had the pulled pork pizza (shared), pork stacker (had leftovers), and buffalo chicken stacker (had leftovers). The BBQ sauce is good, not too sweet, the buffalo chicken was spicy, but not too hot. All the meat was very tender. I would have liked a little more meat on the pizza. All considered, the food was great, as was the beer. read more

Nice cozy slice of big city style in little ol' Newaygo. Paying homage to local logging history, this place is an up-and-comer worth the stop. Try the Wild Eye-P-A and you won't be disappointed. I've only been here once. But my opinion is I like the atmosphere. I ordered the coconut beer, amazing. We ordered 2 pizzas. They were kind of small. They have one size, 14". It was fantastic, but I wish that they had more size options and more reasonable pricing. I will definitely go back and try other things on the menu. Update 12/27/16 Just had dinner there again. Been many times now. I have never been disappointed in the food. My favorite so far is the Mediterranean Pizza and the Coconut beer. The only beer I have ever tried and liked! It's not sweet, and the coconut is I guess deep and mild. Very good. That pizza is the only Mediterranean anything I've ever had. Love it. My boyfriend ordered the stuffed pita points. Great beer and great service. We got a few flights and loved all the beers we got.... Which never happens. The citrus summer wheat was spot on. The seven cousins was definitely a double IPA, the Himalayan Gose was refreshingly tart. The list goes on and on. We also had the pita and hummus plate. Hummus- great, pesto-tasty, veggies-crisp, pita pieces- I've never had better. Very disappointed this visit! I sat at the bar and it was extremely difficult to get the bartender's attention. If she wasn't waiting on customers or ringing up sales she was talking to employees and not paying attention to the bar. The menu shown on Yelp is 3 years out of date and many of the items are not served. I ordered a glass of Riesling and the pork Stacker. Pork was supposed to be shredded but there were large chunks that were very tough that missed the shredder. Also the dish was Bland and needed seasoning.
