I for the life of me can't understand why the reviews on Northern trails are so low. Northern trails has been a great dine-in spot for me and my husband's family we drive our side by sides up there and they seem to be very friendly about it. The bar is super nice they do have bar seating to where you can watch a football game while enjoying a beer. Their food is fantastic I absolutely love their fried pickle wraps that's the first time I have seen those anywhere and I have yet to find anywhere else that sells them and can make them as good as they do. One diner is celiac - she got the salmon, as did I but mine came as on the menu. Hubby hit fish & chips. Salmon was good. Celiac Foodie: Cook was having a rough day with details. The offer a GF sensitive menu with salad options and dinner options. The 1st salad had croutons. I returned that and received my 2nd rather quickly. We also had a Chicken Wrap (not GF) with Fries (not GF), seasoned well and the wrap was 'ok'. I did get 'glutened' from my Salad, even thou we made it clear I have Celiac. (My assumption- the chicken breast was re-plated, causing cross contamination of my meat but again, I'm assuming due to illness) I would not recommend to my fellow Celiacs but for the others, food seemed good. From check in through eating until leaving, it took more than two hours for our meal. Granted, there were nine of us. The five people on my half of the table all had cold food. The only reason I could only tell about my half of the table is because it was so loud. I couldn't hear the other people. By the food left on the plates, I would say that there's was at least cold if not something more troubling. I only went here because my son suggested this restaurant. I have repeatedly been disappointed by their service and food. We entered through the bar and sat at a table where we were expecting more people to join us. The waiter came and took our order and let us know that we needed to enter through the restaurant entrance if we wanted to sit at a table in the bar. Right after that the manager came and told us we had to leave the table because a couple had come through the restaurant entrance so we were told to move to the bar so they could have the table. To my knowledge, they don't take reservations here so why would she make us move and let them have the table?? Only because they came in through the other entrance. Honestly I didn't even care that we had to move but the manager was so rude about it. Like we had committed a felony. Instead of apologizing she was arguing with us about it. Don't let a parking lot full of cars dissuade ypu from going in. The place is massive, half dining room, the lounge has a huge bar, high tops, pool tables, lots of TVs. The menu is pretty diverse. We started with the pretzels with Two-hearted beer cheddar cheese. 3 big pretzels and enough cheese that we brought home the little remaining. Next a cup of their Portabella, prime rib soup. The chunks of prome rib were large and many. Very filling. We split a daily special of lightly dusted pan fried blue gill, new your strip and 2 sides. The blue gill was superb. The steak was over done, maybe too long waiting to be brought out? Their prices are par with other local establishment. The service was slow. But I think due to few kitchen folks....welcome to era of covid 19 and being understaffed. We will come back to try different menu options. Huge place with a restaurant, bar and outside area. We sat at the bar. Ordered the French dip and fries. The vodka soda was good- not too stingy with the vodka. Apparently they are trying a new bun as of yesterday for the French dip. I loved their French drip and the bun was the best part. This one is a huge fail. It fell apart before I dipped it. Couldn't even pick up the sandwich. I had to eat it with a fork. The fries are good. Fun place. So disappointed that they ruined my favorite sandwich. read more

This place is kind of a lone ranger in terms of being the only place I saw of its size for a solid ten minutes. We had a large party and they accommodated us quickly and well with two tables. I definitely liked the apps we got. We had the pretzels and they were good. If anything, I would get something with beef here. They apparently source their beef from a local place, and I did have the steak and it was decent, though the loaded potato that came with it was not well cooked and pretty flavorless. The chicken bacon ranch sandwich seemed to be okay, and I also heard from a buddy that their french dip was pretty good. I would not recommend the burrito though as it was pretty bland, though the portion was HUGE. I think if I come back here, I'll definitely grab something with beef and something that is more bar food-esque. I loved the pretzels, the steak was okay, and I would like to see what sitting outside does to the experience. read more

Courtney was horrible! Worst bartender I've ever experienced in my life. Husband and I had to wait over 10 minutes for a drink and when he got the beer, there was 4 inches of foam that's not a good pour. No one wants a beer poured that way and when food came, I wanted another drink and she was nowhere to be found. With her attitude and service- she should be in the kitchen or not working with people at all. Incredibly Rude and must hate her job. It's kind of confusing when you first walk in. There isn't a hostess, or a sign that says seat yourself. It took the server awhile to come to the table for our menus, so I went to the bar and asked the bartender for the menus. She said your server will bring them soon. (Interesting) Everyone was pleased with their meals. The menu is decent, and has a good variety menu. The fish and chips are house made. It was well battered. The shrimp basket tasted like it came out of the freezer, but still pretty good. I had the blackened chicken salad. It was weird how the chicken was cold, instead of hot. But I was able to sub the cheese blend, with Stella blue cheese and it was really good. I also really enjoyed their white balsamic honey mustard dressing. We had a load of bread as an app. It melted in our mouths. Especially with the whipped butter. Service was mediocre. Large bar area. I don't suggest you bring kids. Had a dj too. When we walked in it took them 10 minutes to seat us and upon being seated we were served our drinks and then we ordered our food. we waited about an hour until we got out actual food and only 2 people got food, they both ordered the chicken fajitas and didnt even get a whole chicken breast and the juice was spilled everywhere by our waitress. I ordered a side of asparagus and got 5 peices total along with my shrimp fettuccine alfredo I only got 5 peices of shrimp. Our service was terrible, the food was extra salty, but because it took longer they gave us our drinks for free. Multiple people walked in after us, got their food, then walked out before we got our food. Please take this into consideration before you come here. read more

I only give this establishment 1 star based on the service, we are "were" regulars and previously enjoyed the business for entertainment and food quality, BUT.. and it's a big but... there is a problem in the chain of command that ends horribly for them, the bartender (Courtney) has a lack of understanding on the importance for this type of a customer based industry, it's an insult to the the consumer, my money is better spent elsewhere unfortunately, owners and or upper management need (should) be aware of the lack of professional people that represent their establishment, the name and success of your company is directly related to its employees and their general attitude. Sad to see this happening to this establishment. I'm by far not the only one that feels this but unfortunately I'm one of few that will speak up. being a business owner myself. We live out in the sticks, but thankfully close enough to make regular visits to Northern Trails... This local watering hole draws very good crowds most nights. I'm often stunned by how full the parking lot is late into the night. Considering how many people around here beat a path to their door they must be doing something right. It's one of the few places that does a good job of having something for everyone. I had a foodie friend come in and note that its like "high class" sports bar food.. which for him was pretty high praise. My kids like it. My drinking buddies like it. My wife likes it. Check, Check, Check. Couple suggestions. Sit in the bar - the atmosphere is much more lively and it feels like a local watering hole. The dining room is much quieter and nothing fancy. "Hot Beef Sandwich" - its some very good pot roast made on site. They often run out but it's yummy. Check the board for daily chef inspired selections for your foodie friends. The place merits a solid 4.5 stars in my non 1,2,3,4,5 world. And in comparison to other stuff around here it's a solid 5. read more

We stopped here while on a motorcycle ride last Wednesday. They are keeping tables distance and following other precautions for covid 19. My cocktail was well made. I had the beef and bean burrito which was a good bar burrito. The kitchen was pretty slow while we were there, but the staff was friendly and attentive. It's hit and miss here. The food used to be very sub-par (cold chicken wings multiple visits in a row or a completely unseasoned steak) but the food has gotten better in our two year break. Our last visit the waitress disappeared for most of the time and we had to ask about where our appetizer (a simple order of chips and salsa) and soup was at. We ordered take-out on April 14th, 2017. Two hamburgers and one kids hamburger. They charged us .50 cents for each item, tomatoes, onions, soggy lettuce and pickles (was actually just dill relish)! That's two dollars extra on top of a burger for $9.99 ($12.00 burger) WOW. Our bill was $32. On the take out menu it clearly says the burgers come with lettuce and tomato! We got home and was puzzled by the appearance of the hamburger meat. Greenish/brown. After smelling it and then tasting the burger we realized the meat was rancid. We frequent Northern Trails several times a year. Lots of knotty pine in the restaurant area with a big stone fireplace. They also serve outside. Bar area is busy and the parking lot is full. Restaurant Service is really good. Servers check back frequently. Lets start with the loaf of bread they serve which is great. Then follow up with the Trio Combo for me and the Fish and Chips for my wife. Wonderful Asparagus is served. We are about 1/2 way thru the food and are stuffed. Take it home for leftovers .
