If you love fried catfish, this is place to go. This is a family owned restaurant and the atmosphere makes you feel like you're at home with family. The fried catfish is their specialty and it's absolutely amazing! The only place that can top this restaurant is grandma's cooking.

They charge for every little thing. Tartar costs extra. Lemon juice costs extra. Onion cost extra. Only place I ever saw this before.

The sign for the place is a little hard to see and I missed the turn to enter the parking area initially. Made our way back and found a spot, though the lot is a little bit hard to maneuver. We walked inside to a slightly hot, slightly dim interior. It's larger than it looks on the outside. A friendly waitress told us we could sit where we liked, so we took a booth near a window so we could see the menu better. Their choices were fairly varied for lunch. Lunches come with a meat + 3 veggies and your choice of bread. I ordered the boneless fried chicken breast, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, and at the recommendation of our waitress, the hash brown casserole with a roll as my bread. My mom got the country fried steak with brown gravy, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, cabbage, and a roll. My dad got the same thing except he subbed the cabbage for greens of some sort, though I can't recall if they were turnip or collard greens. He also got the fried cornbread. Our waitress was very nice and patient with us, even with my dad chatting her up, lol. Our food came out quickly. You pay at the register up front -- we thought the prices were reasonable. As for the food itself, it was enjoyable! Simple, straightforward, but tasty and comforting. The chicken was breaded expertly and was cooked well. To me, the stand out was the fried okra, which was perfectly crisp. We also enjoyed the macaroni and cheese, greens, and chicken fried steak. My mom said her best thing was the cabbage, which was surprising at first -- but I agree, the cabbage was excellent! The hashbrown casserole and the fried cornbread were the only two letdowns; the casserole needed to be cooked and seasoned a bit more, and the cornbread was likewise a little on the floppy side, instead of having pleasantly crisp edges. Overall, though, solid country cooking at a reasonable price served quickly by nice people. Give them a go if you're in the area.

The service was nice and answered my annoying questions with a smile. The ambiance is extremely simple, but good with a very plain menu and straightforward offerings, including buttermilk pie for dessert (maybe another time).

Shoals Shack was my personal choice, and I think I out bought the rest of our crew compared to the restaurant they chose. ;) it was so good! This is a small building on the outskirts of Florence. There's a little parking lot but it's carryout only. I was able to place my order online about 20 minutes before we got there. It was easy and you can even make modifications to your order, which is great! The website said my food wouldn't be ready till 1:45 (I think I ordered ~1:15 or so) but we pulled up at about 1:35 and it was waiting for me! I walked right up to the window and a friendly employee asked if I had an online order. I agreed and confirmed my name and the food was mine! Easy peasy and it was still super hot and not at all soggy. I ordered the Bella burger, which is a burger with mushrooms, Swiss, garlic mayo, and fried onion strings, though I asked for no onion strings on mine. I got a side of French fries and a cup of ranch for dipping. My order was made correctly. The fries were pretty basic but good -- hot, crispy, adequately salted. The ranch was delicious ranch and perfect for dipping. Unfortunately one of my fries did have a small, straight, dark hair attached to it. I'm not wildly squeamish about these sorts of things and it was sort of sitting by itself not touching other fries anyway, so I just chunked it and went about my business. This is really my only complaint for the whole experience. That burger...wow. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Perfectly cooked, juicy, a little unctuous but not too much. Soft bun, not soggy, right amount of melt on the cheese, meaty mushrooms in the perfect proportion. And lastly, the garlic mayo really pulled it all together. It was creamy, not overly garlicky, and spread just enough to get a little bit in every bite. I will be hard-pressed not to return here when I'm next in the area. Truly, an awesome burger! I'd be curious to try their other menu items like chicken sandwiches or tacos as well. Thanks, Shoals Shack!

This is a quaint little restaurant that was nicely decorated for the Christmas holiday. We chose our table and were attended to immediately. There were two other tables of 5 and 4 customers when we arrived around 1:30 pm. I noticed they close at 3 and open again at 5 pm. The special of the day was red beans and rice with andouille sausage served with corn bread which my husband ordered. I was surprised because I was pretty sure he chose this restaurant because it had the word "ribs" on the menu. He said his beans and rice were a little bland and his cornbread was average. I tasted it and have to agree it could use more seasoning. I ordered the brisket platter which included two sides. I ordered cornbread salad and macaroni salad. The brisket was delicious served baked as two types of sauce were offered-red and yellow (mustard). I have to say I liked my brisket without the sauce. A slice of Texas toast was also on the platter. I offered some of the brisket and the toast to my husband so I can't comment on the buttered toast. I chose the cornbread salad because I had never heard of it. It was interesting. It was a cold salad that included crumbled cornbread, diced celery, onion, green pepper, corn, and I think pimento binded together with a light dressing and served in a scoop. The macaroni salad was plain ole southern elbow macaroni with a tangy mayo based dressing. Both salads were tasty and I enjoyed them. Good food but nothing that says I would drive out of the way to come here. Our server was working alone and was efficient as she waited the 3 tables, including serving wine and drinks from the bar. We took a pint of their smoked pimento cheese with us and had some of it for dinner with some sausage and crackers. It was tasty. We didn't get dessert here but noticed a bakery across the street that was calling our name..
