This location is one of the better Newbury Comics in the area. Most of the other stand-alone stores have moved into their closest mall, and scaled back on all of their music. I feared that one day this store would get absorbed into the Warwick Mall and follow suit. Their recent renovation proves they will be staying in their current location. Their selection of records is still better than other stores in the area, and their staff is awesome. I recommend this location. read more

Newbury Comics is just, plain, awesome. The original location is on Newbury Street in Boston, Massachusetts. This location is in Warwick, Rhode Island. It's name implies comics galore, but really there are only two small sections of comics. They have all the big name Marvel and DC titles, and they have a great subscriber deal where you can subscribe to your favorite books and they'll give you 20% off all comics. They buy and sell used DVDs, CDs, and video games. The buyback value isn't horrible, and you can get cash in hand when you leave. There is a pretty large selection of DVDs and CDs. They have occasional buy one get one free sales, so keep an eye out. My favorite part of Newbury Comics is the trinkets and toys. They have everything from snarky bumper stickers, to zombie brains. There are a lot of Boston-centric items as well. It's a great place to find a gift. If you're a comic book nerd, a music junkie, or just an all around cool cat, this is the place for you. read more

COming to the Warwick store used to make me want to have a panic attack. It had everything you could want from a newbury's and more, and in way, way, way too small of a space. I've been a customer of this location for 13+ years and have watched the inventory steadily grow, with certain newbury standards getting phased out (Doc Martens....Grinders....VHS) to bring in Blu Ray, used video games, etc. As more and more was brought in the walls became more and more cluttered, and the aisles narrower as more were brought in. Eventually I felt you couldn't go in there without constantly bumping into people and I sort of stopped going. Today I walked in due to a 25% anniversary sale and having been unable to find a record I had been looking for at the providence or norwood location. I was relieved to see widened aisles and that they were seeming to weed out some of the funky house wares and other items they probably weren't selling as much of now that their neighbor is a Bed Bath and Beyond. Suddenly I was panicking, I couldn't find the vinyl section. yes, theirs is nothing to really bat an eye at but they had both the new Against Me! and Beck albums I had been unable to find elsewhere. The small section was pretty much all new releases, which was nice as I didn't have to weed through everything I already have to find things. read more

This is a very fun 'local' record store. It reminds me of when I was younger and you would find locally owned record stores in town. I like to browse the staff picks section as well as the very large used collection. You can find great deals on both newer and older CDs. They have a large used- movie and game section too. tons of nicknacks and goofy gifts and items. The staff is usually fairly knowledgeable and can provide recommendations. I have stumped them on a few niche artists but that isn't unexpected (one can't know EVERY piece of music coming out). read more

This place is the best for quirky gifts. Where other store carries both Sesame Street Yahtzee and OBEY hats? Looking for Angry Birds or Annoying Oranges? They got 'em. Fingertip sporks? No problem. Funny bumperstickers and buttons? Tons. You can literally spend hours just looking around. On top of all of the silly stuff, they also have a decent selection of DVDs and CDs. Ironically, what they fall short on is actual comics... but I've never shopped for a comic book (here or anywhere else), so they still get a 5 from me. read more

This store is a place all of its own. There is literally something for everyone here. They are a comic book, super hero, band geek, high school musical, old skool records manaja-twa of the music world. You will find everything from Cd's, records, DVD's, T-Shirt's and Collectibles - and the fan based hovered around. You could spend hours here. Gigantic assortment of pop DVDs, CDs, and movie/music paraphernalia. The prices were way too high for us to buy anything except a tshirt, but it was a blast to look around. Funny tshirts and an amazing tv DVD set section. read more

One my favorite places to spend hard earned money and easily wasted time. They have a very ironic name in that they have like ZERO comics in the place, but lots of new and used CD's, new and used DVD's and general Nerdalia, like action figs, XXL shirts, lateral lisps, and liquid cheese. Rhode Island was a HUGE metal state, as it isnt too far from Worcester (Woostah!) Mass, the east coast capital of \m/etal, so their selection always kicked a generous helping of ass. Eventhough i left RI, i still go to their roast beef sized website and mail-order some goodies. Great place to shop if youre stumped with what to buy your nerd. read more

I remember the day it opened was super stoked to find that their was another comic book Shop in the area. Good selection of comics to the popular and the indie favs, great selection of cds, records and at one time you could find cassette tapes here yes you heard me at one time they did. They have survived with a lot of the other box stores in the area strawberries, record town and a couple others that have died off. I at one point had hated coming in here due to the smug looks from the clerks who think they were better, it has changed since then and they finally got a good crew. read more

I love Newbury Comics. Before iTunes, when everybody else seemed to be selling new CDs for $18, Newbury was selling the for $13 or $14, which, when you are 13 or 14, is a huge deal. The have always had the newest selection of music, and also a decent group of used CDs and DVDs. read more

Newbury Comics - I love this store! Great place to get cool gifts or to buy inexpensive used DVDs. They have a great selection of quirky t-shirts, coffee mugs, stickers, buttons, etc... Every time I get someone a birthday gift from this place it is always a winner. I just got my cousin a garden gnome (the Travelocity guy) for $10. It is about 18" tall and made of poly-resin; it was the hit of the party. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to look around. read more

So I guess when the business first started, the focus was on comics, as the name would lead you to believe. Those days are long gone. It's basically just a glorified Spencer's gifts/Hot Topic/music store now. Comics are situated in the back corner, and are generally in terrible shape. If they aren't before you buy them, they will be at the register as the staff just throws them in a bag. God forbid you ask them to be careful with a purchase as they routinely call other customers "weirdos" that did before you. And last I checked, they're a retail store..they don't take trades, sell used merchandise, etc...so to tell a knowledgeable collector of comics and pops that the publisher and manufacturers tell them to take the "Chase" items and special variant comics straight from the shipping boxes and put them behind the desk with 1000% markup beyond cover price/msrp is just deceitful and greedy. I'll find another place to shop from now on. read more
