I have a 17 year old daughter that has been going there since she was 6 month old who refuses to go anywhere else. Additionally, I have an 8 year old that is pretty much afraid of every experience, including going to the doctor however is very comfortable going to Dr. Santos-Thomas. The staff is amazing, and very carying. My son has had a lot of dental issues and they not only took great care of him but were able to give us great advise on how to avoid further issues. The customized approach to my son with Autism was truly a miracle to find. Dr. Cristina is so amazing with him, whereas I was worried that (based on my prior appts at highly recommended dentist) he'd be doomed to a life without dental exams/treatments. Dr Tomas saw my child for a chipped front tooth. She took xrays and spoke to an endodontist on the phone who told her to do a pulp cap. I signed the consent form, waited an hour in the waiting room only to be told she had changed her mind and wanted her to see the endodontist the next day. Naturally i was upset seeing as she abruptly changed her mind and now it was 5:30 friday night. Here's where it gets bad. I called said endodontist the next morning and was told that Dr Tomas had called the previous night and advised them NOT to see our child. The level of pettiness this women showed is staggering. She actually went out of her way to call and make sure a 7 Yr old girl with a chipped tooth wouldn't get seen. I suspect her feelings were hurt when i didn't just smile and walk out after being there 2 1/2 hours only to be denied the help she promised. read more

Dr. Santos is a GREAT doctor and her dental staff is fantastic. My son always loved going there. My review is strictly about their Billing Dept. My family has double dental coverage (meaning both my spouse and I have dental coverage for our family). In all my years of going to the dentist, I have NEVER had to pay upfront. Both of our insurances always cover the bill between the two of them. But for some reason, this office makes us pay upfront...and then sends us a refund check after the insurance co. has paid them (a check that, by the way, I had to call and ASK FOR every time). Talk about a waste of paper and postage! I don't know if they have had difficulty w/ other patients' in the past, but that is not my problem. We have TWO insurance companies that pay for everything, every single time. Asking for $ upfront is unnecessary and silly. And this is the reason why we won't go back. Every other dentist in the world sends a bill for what isn't covered. Sometimes, it can be a real hardship for people to pay upfront. And these are the exact reasons why we don't go there anymore. read more

We brought our daughter here for her first dental visit. And we couldn't be happier. The office was immaculate and when you walk in, it's less of a dentist and more of a children's play place. They have a built in video game player, a "tree" house with a kitchen and plenty of things to keep siblings distracted while their brother/sister is having their appointment. The dentist and the hygienist were amazing with my daughter. My daughter got her mouth brushed, teeth counted and flouride treatment all while being a mostly crazy 2 year old! It was a pleasant experience. If you are looking for a children's dentist, I highly recomend this location. read more

I took my daughter for her first dental visit there at 12 months. My general impression is that Dr. Karina is very inexperienced with babies/toddlers. She instructed me to clean my baby's teeth after every nursing session at night when I nurse 4 to 5 times at night; I told her this was impractical and she insisted on it. It almost felt like we were arguing about it. In addition, after the teeth check up, it was very evident that my daughter is distressed and scared of her. While my daughter was crying on the side, Dr. Karina continued to talk to us at an extreme leisure pace. There was no time to acclimate my baby with the doctor or any staff, no toys were provided to distract her. Overall one of the most tramatic experiences for my daughter. The hygienists are great but unfortunately this place is poorly managed and absolutely terrible at scheduling. The last three times we've had appointments they have called to cancel and rearrange- and it wasn't Covid related. They insist on keeping you with the original dentist who saw the child and refuse to keep the already scheduled appointment with whomever is available. They don't care about inconveniencing the client and frankly as a business owner myself I find it elitist to have complete disregard for a client's time. I've been extremely flexible with businesses during Covid but also expect some flexibility on their part and this practice offers none. I would not recommend this practice if a reliable schedule is even somewhat important to you- and it is to most busy parents. It's concerning that this isn't the first time they've had this complaint yet continue to ignore the issue. read more

The hygienists really seem great, but based on my two experiences with this office it doesn't seem like they are very respectful of people's time. For my first appointment last year, I had already left work, picked my son up from day care and was on the way to the office when they called me to say that, for some reason, my insurance had rejected the claim because my son wasn't covered. It was a mix up with my insurance company which, of course, wasn't their fault, but I was confused as to why they didn't call me with this information at least, like, an hour before the appointment. I had to reschedule, turn around, return my son to day care, but, of course, I still lost the time I took off work. I did eventually make it back for a rescheduled appointment and had a positive experience there, so I didn't think much more about the insurance/scheduling mix up. For my son's second appointment, I had to postpone it initially because he had the flu. Their next available date was a full month later, which was slightly annoying because it was during a particularly busy time for my work schedule, but, he needs his teeth cleaned, right? So I did the same routine - made my advance request for the time off, left work, picked him up from school and brought him to the office. We got all the way into the hygienist's room and he was sitting in the chair, when we were informed by the doctor that they couldn't see him because he was on antibiotics because of an ear infection. Their office policy is that a child needs to be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours so they aren't "contagious." He had started them just the day before, it hadn't been quite 24 hours, but I'm not aware of ear infections being "contagious," so they seemed to be unnecessarily applying their policy very strictly. Again, I had to bring my son back to day care and take time off work with nothing to show for it. Being a working parent is difficult. It's hard enough to tell your boss you have to leave work in the middle of the day during the busy season to take your child to a doctor's appointment. And then to realize at the end that you did it for no reason at all is downright demoralizing. I've decided not to return to this particular office. I think I would have dismissed one of these incidents if they had happened in isolation, but now my son has had two scheduled cleanings and on both occasions I had to take time off work, only for him to not be seen. I understand things happen, I understand the need for policies, but pediatric practitioners need know that a parent's time is valuable and should be treated as such. read more

Nice, new, kid friedly facility. Great dental assistant, really good with my 3 year old. Made her feel completely comfortable. The dentist was not knowledgeble about Nursery water (purifide water with flouride) and scared the crap out of me unneccessarily. Basically told me I was harming my child by giving her Nursery water due to the added flouride. Told me I should be giving her tap water instead which had equal to or MORE flouride than the nursery water. So until I was able to get home and research it, I was freaked out. Kinda pissed me off. read more

My child loved it here, but they are very quick to choose extreme anesthetics vs working with general novocaine. Might be a good place for very young children not so much older kids. Not the right place if you are looking for full service dental care besides cleaning and small fillings. read more

I love Dr.Christina and her staff. They are wonderful with both of my kids ages 2 and 5. My daughter had to have cavities filled and they really take their time making the kids comfortable. She has also taught me a lot to prevent my 2 year old from having to go through what my daughter has. I can't say enough about have fabulous they are! read more

I went to this dentistry with my sisters and found that the dentist were amazing with kids, the wait time is short, and many object to entertain. For Example; Television, toys, etc. There is also little goody bags to keep kids motivated to brush. I would recommend you to come here too for your child, sibling, family, etc.! read more

I don't love this place. The staff seems quite disingenuous in their polite, but so clearly unhelpful replies. Also, Dr. Cristina insisted on telling my 4 y.o. son that a procedure that she was doing on him wouldn't hurt and that the clamps she was putting around his tooth were "a hug." She was doing a filling and would even have to numb the tooth using a needle, so to tell a 4 y.o. that this is all fun and games and it won't hurt is ridiculous in my opinion! I really don't see a good reason to lie to my child, especially since it very much will hurt (as the clamps did and terrified him), and then he will feel fooled and betrayed (as he did feel). So, it's clean and pretty, but I honestly really don't like the people there! read more

I took our older daughter to Dr. Cristina for her first dental checkup when she was 17 months old and she is now 4 years old. Dr. Cristina and her staff are excellent - everyone from the front desk staff to the hygienists are WONDERFUL with children. The hygienists have been very understanding of our daughter's fear of sitting in the dental chair and still work on her teeth while she sits on my lap. Hopefully we'll get her into the chair at her next visit. She looks forward to going to the dentist - which is more than I can say for myself! Dr. Mariya joined the practice maybe 18 months ago, and she is very nice, but my kids seem to slightly prefer Dr. Cristina. We don't really get a choice in which dentist we see but then again, I've never asked. We have never had insurance/billing issues, but they're in-network for our dental insurance so I don't really expect to have problems. The office is very clean and well-kept and is designed to appeal to children throughout. My one issue happened when our second child, then a newborn, had a prominent upper lip tie (as our older child did) and we were having breastfeeding difficulties. I called Dr. Cristina and my concerns were dismissed with the statement that if there was a tongue tie it would have been found and corrected in the hospital, and that ties are "trendy" now but don't usually cause breastfeeding problems - all of which is wrong. She also informed me incorrectly that to laser or clip ties would require my baby to go under general anesthesia. A week later our pediatrician diagnosed the baby as having a posterior tongue tie in addition to the upper lip tie and this was confirmed as the cause of our breastfeeding issues by two IBCLCs. We were referred to a pediatric dentist in New York who lasered her ties with no need for general anesthesia, and within a week or two she was nursing totally normally and has continued to nurse very well ever since (she's currently 18 months old). To be fair, many pediatric dentists are not fully aware of the impact of ties on breastfeeding, and that they can almost always be corrected without general anesthesia. I was just surprised that as a board-certified pediatric dentist, Dr. Cristina was dismissive of the whole concern as some kind of trend, and gave information that our pediatrician said was incorrect. This has not stopped us from bringing our kids to Newington Children's Dentistry but it was a bit disappointing. read more
