Complimentary breadsticks are great for tapping out a tune on top of the kids cups. Speaking of kids - the "little newk's" menu has more to offer than the typical chicken strips. We were there for lunch and had the black and bleu salad (steak was cut super thin - yum), the chicken salad sandwich and tomato basil soup. The kids had the pizza. We stopped at 11:00am in Vicksburg to grab an early lunch. I called in our order while we were getting gas. The girl who took our order was rude and unable to answer any questions then hung up on me asking a final question. When we got to Newk's to pick up our food it wasn't ready so I asked if I could add a drink to my order and go ahead and grab it while I was waiting on my 2 sandwiches. She had to check with her manager and when she came back muttered something that I thought was affirmative under her breath. I have been to Newk's several times and each time has been a great experience. Newk's gets PACKED during lunch. I'm talking lines out the door! Don't let that intimidate you. Not impressed at all! Servers are rude and you are very rushed when you walk in to order. We are traveling from Texas to Florida and read reviews and thought this would be a great place to stop with our group - the ladies that took your order as soon as you walk in were very frustrated because we didn't know what we wanted to order. I find the food options in Vicksburg to generally be disappointing. Newks, however, is far from disappointing. I recommend Newks for lunch. There are enough items on the menu, that anyone should be able to find something, even your picky friends. They offer soups, salads, mac and cheese, and pizza, a nice change from the other burger-centric lunch options in the area. They offer the 'pick two' deals for sandwiches, soups, and mac and cheese, so you can try a couple of things each visit. I really like the Newk's Q Sandwich. The chicken is the best quality I've ever had on a sandwich. The sauce has a nice spicy horseradish bite and the bacon really brings it all together. If you are a fan of pickles, as am I, they have delicious pickles on the round table fixins bar. Yum! They also have croutons, roasted garlic, jalapeño peppers, banana peppers, and parmesian cheese. Today we ordered a take-out food and came out okay. The shrimp and crab bisque was very thin more a broth than a bisque. I noticed also that there were some shrimp skin left in the bisque. The pasta salad was too al dente for my taste. I love my pasta al dente, but this one could use a minute or two to make it. Both were great. The second time I had the half sandwich (Newk's Q again!) and the crab and lobster bisque. I could eat that soup every day it was so delicious. Found this gem on a road trip through Vicksburg because the reviews were interesting enough to make us backtrack just a few miles. It's conveniently located right off I-20 & we ate before the dinner rush at about 4:30 pm. The exterior reminds me of Jason's Deli or Corner Bakery Cafe & the atmosphere is casual, cozy & clean. We were greeted warmly & the cashier (who also brought us our food) made a few really great recommendations. She brought me samples of the daily soup variety so I could choose between them. I didn't expect them ALL to be SO DELICIOUS! Our,family ordered a Mediterranean pizza, Newk's Q (white BBQ on Chicken sandwich), Hoppin' John soup, Roast Beef sandwich, mac n cheese, and a steak sandwich. My son & daughter tasted the sample of Chile & decided to have some too! We were all so happy with our food that we HAD to share, after all, if you're the only one to taste something that good, there's no proof! The pizza was made on dough that was just perfect! The Mediterranean flavors of calamatta olives, artichokes, red onions, pepperoncini, tomatoes & cheese were as deliciously fresh as they were beautiful. The sandwiches were served on delicately toasted bread that was perfectly crispy outside & fluffy warm inside. The roast beef was cooked to pink perfection & the steak had delicious caramelized onions. Soup & mac n cheese were amazing! The Newk's Q was not like any sandwich I've ever had. Our first time here. I will never go to a Newk's again. The person taking our order never broke a smile. In fact, she looked at us like we were a complete nuisance. When we went to get our drinks, five employees were getting refills so we had to wait for them to finish. The bathrooms had no soap. Instead there was hand sanitizer on the counter. So, I am guessing the employees were using that to clean their hands. Should have known at 5:00 on a Monday with a dead parking lot that we should have kept moving. read more
