While what clearly was a life changing decision originally, moving into Vivante has proven time and again to be the best for both. Sadly, we lost our mom last month after an incredible fight she had been putting up for the past few years. Her last ten days truly showed us the incredible "loving care" by so many of Danica Coronel's TEAM. Now, over the years I have visited the facilities hundreds of times. I have gotten to know many of the caregivers, nurses, medtechs, servers, etc., and I have always felt good when leaving that my parents were in great hands. It is always clean and in good condition. We have enjoyed many great meals, met many residents & their families, and created some good memories (under the circumstances). Those "last ten days or so before her passing," REALLY opened my, and many of my family's eyes to the true depth of passion & caring of SO many of the Vivante staff (On the apartment side & especially in The Shores facility). From the smiling greetings by Jojo & Julie, the always positive Vince, Danica & Olivia, the incredibly joyful Alyssa (and mom Debbie), Krista, Ashlee, Elizabeth, Zoila, Jesus, Angela, Pilar, Irizella, Sara, lovely Aricelli who would make mom a nice cup of hot chocolate with a smile & warm words, to the cooks & servers, there are many more to mention. These past years have also opened my eyes to how difficult a job it is, especially to care for those with various stages/levels of dementia. Warning worst hospital in OC!!! My dad was brought to this hospital by ambulance because he was…read morestruggling to breathe. He has heart failure, has been intubated before, and arrived with a severe case of pneumonia. He was shaking, gasping for air, and clearly very sick. His insurance usually doesn't approve extended stays at this hospital, but the doctor specifically requested that he remain because it was too dangerous to transfer him. So help me understand this... If he was too unstable to be transferred, why wasn't a room secured for him? Twelve hours later, he was still on a gurney in the ER. No pillow. Freezing cold. No food had even been ordered for him. He's a high-risk patient, yet he was left exposed in a crowded emergency department where he's at even greater risk of picking up another infection. Twenty-eight hours later, he finally got food... but he was still on that same ER gurney. This doesn't feel like patient-centered care. It feels like a business. If you acknowledge that someone is too sick to move, they deserve more than being left in an emergency room hallway for over a day. No family should have to watch their loved one go through this. If you have a choice, think twice before bringing someone you love here. This has been, without question, the worst hospital experience our family has ever had.

For a provider performing intimate exams, this felt unprofessional. If there are policies regarding nail length or grooming for staff performing direct patient care, they may not be consistently enforced. If no such guidance exists, that raises broader concerns about oversight and patient experience. I hope leadership reviews this issue to ensure consistent professionalism and patient comfort moving forward.

My wife and I chose Atria to care for her 101 year old mother two years ago. For a majority of…read morethis time, she was independent and we had few issues. However, she recently sustained a fall and fractured her tibia requiring a higher level of care. We were dismayed that staffing shortages at this facility required her to wait for prolonged periods of time for basic care which made her anxious, disappointed and sad. This prompted us to look for other local alternatives and we visited Vivante at Newport Center. They happened to have a special rate for the smaller units which ended up costing us only $700 more per month. However, the differences in the caregivers was astounding. Everyone took special measures to ensure they understood her needs and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. In addition, the room was considerably more spacious, has an elegant full kitchen (as opposed to a kitchenette with a microwave) and the food and restaurant is not even comparable. We have met several residents who also moved from Atria to Vivante but never the reverse. When my wife wrote a heartfelt letter about the incompetence of some of the staff to the Senior Executive Director of Atria, Mr. Brian Keys, he never even responded. Does this represent the priorities of their leadership? In all fairness, there are employees at Atria that are caring and competent. But even at the standard rent and level of care, the relatively nominal upgrade price is the bargain of a lifetime.
