This was the most amazing experience! It was just surreal! Our pilot was very knowledgeable and gave us an excellent lighthouse tour! We felt that we were in good hands with him since he has 40 years experience piloting helicopters. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Newport. You have to do one of these! Highly recommend the island tour. It's about $150-$200 per person for 20-30 minutes but it's SO much fun. They play Reggae and island music through the microphone and headphones so you really have a full 100% immersed experience. If you able to do this, it's definitely worth it! We did the island tour. I am glad we bought the video of our ride because we were so excited to be in a helicopter we didn't pay so much attention to our lovely pilot. They are very kid friendly too! They let our tiny 7 year old sit up front. He tells everyone he was a co pilot in a helicopter. While SO VERY SHORT (the time goes by super quick!!), it's worth it just for the views. It was a fun ride! The employees are all welcoming and friendly, and made the experience easy and enjoyable. The views of the city from that height are amazing to see and it was an exciting trip. For an extra charge you can get a recording of your trip so you can show others or just reminisce. The good and bad of the flight is that it's short, so on the one hand you'll wish you had more time but it's not something time intensive which means it can fit nicely into any schedule. My parents and I purchased a Groupon to enjoy the Mansion tour on a brisk spring day. Jeff, the pilot, is fantastic and you will feel comfortable with him and learn a lot over your quick tour. He runs this company, where he provides these sorts of tours, as well as also owning an aerial photography business which is pretty cool/interesting. The Mansion tour is the shortest (12 minutes) but still a great experience and you'll see lots of awesome Newport attractions...the bridge, the mansions, fort adams, ocean drive, downtown, etc. You'll have your own headset where Jeff will point out attractions, and you can also talk to your other thrill seekers through the headset. Be sure to bring your camera as the pictures you'll get are incredible! Tip: -You can purchase a DVD (about $25) as an add-on to your trip. We did not do this but many others did and were happy with their purchase! -This is NOT a scary experience at all so if you are concerned about a fear of heights, etc, do not be! Perhaps choose to sit in the back seat (one guest sits up front with Jeff and the other two sit in the rear) as you'll be able to enjoy the views but not as easily see the straight down view from the front. -Get there a little early to watch the folks that sky dive at the same property (they have picnic tables outside you can hang out at until the woman picks you up to drive you over to the helicopter in a golf cart!) -Great gift idea for any friend/family who loves Newport/RI! read more

Could not be more happy. My wife and I were thinking of something to do on a beautiful Saturday morning that would be both exciting and memorable. Being a history buff, I wanted to see the military history of Narragansett Bay and Newport. My wife hadn't flown before and didn't know if the experience would agree with her. Within minutes of taking flight she was an over any fear. The views were amazing and the pilot was smooth and very knowledgeable about the history of the area. I particularly liked the fact that he talked the right amount of time and kept quiet so we could talk the right amount of time. I would recommend reading the history of Newport/RI before taking a aerial tour of the area. There is so much stuff to see and you may get more out of the experience if you're prepared with some historical facts prior to strapping in. The helicopter is spotless and smooth. Noise canceling headsets were provided and the seats were much more comfortable than a military helicopter I've been in. Absolutely the perfect for a first date or 30th wedding anniversary. We went on the 20-min island tour yesterday with Bird's Eye View Helicopters. The experience was totally awesome! I was nervous before the tour, since I'm terrified of flying and never been on the helicopter before. However, the experience has completely exceeded my exceptions! Our pilot was super experienced and confident. During the tour, he pointed out many attractions and sightseeing spots for us. He also answered all of our questions and he's very knowledgeable. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking!! You wouldn't be able to see all of it if on the ground. The helicopter ride itself was very smooth and comfortable as well, didn't experience any turbulence. Signed up a couple of weeks ago for a 3pm tour because we were going to be in Newport for a 4 day weekend. The day before our trip they called up and said they needed a part for the helicopter but it should be in the next morning but just wanted to give a heads up in the low likelihood they needed to cancel. Which I honestly thought was nice and appreciated. At about noon the morning of we were driving up (we live 4 hours away) and got a call that they still hadn't gotten the part but thought they would soon so could they either push it back to 4pm or reschedule (to a time outside our four days naturally). Obviously I took the push back until 4pm. So they said they'd call again around 3pm to update us. 3pm came and went and I didn't hear anything so I called and no one answered. Without any better information we left downtown Newport where we were happy exploring and drove to the airport in Middletown. No one was in the office so we sat in the lobby for a few minutes. Finally someone came in and said that the part never came in so could we reschedule. I explained yet again we were only in the area for 4 days and lived hours away. He checked their schedule and said that basically everyone was on vacation over the next few days so sorry for the inconvenience but the next time we were up in the area to book a tour and they'd get us out on one. Pretty poor customer service. I would have rather just been told that it wasn't going to happen with the first call or had them actually follow through on giving us an update vs wasting the late afternoon for me. Not even a sorry for such a severe mess up we'll give you a complimentary tour the next time you're up. Just a 'sorry' and a handshake. read more

My 83 year old dad wanted to visited boston..... we decided to include Newport ri as we drove to cape cod and boston. Booked this trip for my dad and husband to see the mansions and lighthouses. My sister and I chose to walk the cliff walk as we get extremely motion sick. My dad who is in good shape would have enjoyed the cliff walk... but thoroughly enjoyed to helicopter ride..... he could see everything without walking in the cold. We were in ri on a rainy sept day and it was cold for him. However birds eye cancelled our trip then did everything they could to get us booked the next day if weather held. It did. my father said it was a trip of lifetime. My father does not have many trips left I am so glad he was able to complete this one. thanks so much birdeyes for making this a excellent experience.
