Went in on Tuesday, he took his time and went over all options for me, and gave me his recommendation for what would look closest to how the wheels looked from the factory. I went with his recommendation. Wednesday morning he texts me saying it's done. I show up and the car looks amazing. The wheels look as close to factory as possible without having Lexus do it for an arm and a leg (and done in 24 hours!). I couldn't be happier and highly recommend his services. The wheels were in pretty bad cosmetic shape - dings, scratches, brake dust everywhere, peeling paint galore, and some pitting on the back for one of them. After Proper Motion finished my powder coat they came out spectacular. You can also clearly see all the factory Toyota markings on the back despite the years of obvious neglect. The worst wheel still had some of the pitting come through only in the back, but that was the original wheel's problem so kind of expected for a 21-year-old wheel. I didn't ask them to file it down (which would've removed probably too much material), so I'm still thrilled with the final results. I guess I visited their newer shop in Sante Fe Springs. They had a clean and neat front lobby and a cozy waiting lounge with couches. I just dropped off the wheels, so didn't get to take full advantage of the lobby. I asked for pricing over the phone before coming, and once I arrived everything was still as quoted, even with the poor condition of my wheels. They had lots of sample swatches and a few miniature wheels as demos, but I wanted a lighter silver to match the factory paint. They were super helpful and special-ordered the matching powder / paint for no additional cost. I just had to wait a few days for the order. Overall would highly recommend.

When I raised my concerns, instead of accountability or an apology, I was met with pushback. Jeff, as the owner, I would expect better transparency and professionalism--especially toward a repeat customer. Charging premium prices without disclosure and failing to deliver timely service is not okay. This was an extremely bad experience. I won't be coming back, and I'll be advising friends to take their business elsewhere. Over the past few years I've had a ton of parts on my motorcycle powder-coated: both wheels, clutch lever, brake lever, passenger pegs, rearsets, and more I can't even think off of the top of my head. Every single time I've received an awesome color and finish, and the most obvious paint, on the wheels (pearl blue over white, w/ blue and green flake), consistently get compliments at the track. I've referred tons of my friends there, and all have had experiences similar to mine. Price was good, especially for the quality and durability of the work. I had the wheels done almost 3 years and ~15,000 miles ago and they still look like the first day I saw them. Good customer service as well, young guy working there was very enthusiastic and helpful without being pushy - he listened to what I wanted and didn't try to force anything on me, which I definitely liked. read more

I've been going to Wes and the guys at Newport Mesa since the shop opened. I've gotten everything from bike parts to drums and even some speaker grills for my company. Everything I've gotten done came out great every time. Recently I had Wes do the speaker grills I mentioned before. My company had an order that needed to be shipped out and we didn't have any grills painted, so what do I do? Call Wes and explained we needed the grills done same day so we could get them out to our customer on time. He told me no problem. I dropped the grills off around 11am and had them back, finished by 3pm same day. And on top of it, it didn't cost us an arm and a leg to get the stuff done so quickly. Wes runs a great shop and turns out a great product. I wouldn't trust anyone else to coat stuff for me. read more

I have been going to them for years now. Anything I need powder coated, or cerakoted I bring to them. Both personally for work because it gets done right. Wes explains everything in detail and is very knowledge able. So if he recommends something I do it. I dont have time to do things twice. I'm a believer in doing it right the first time. As for pricing they are good. I get bids for my work stuff and they are competitive. But when we've tried to use other shops. I'd say 25% has to go back for rework. So any small saving is completely lost and ends up cost us more. So like I said before it pays to have it done right the first time. There good guy with good quality. I started with magnesium engine covers then onto wheels, bumper and random off-road recovery pieces. As the metals vary so does the coating process. being educated to this was very helpful in understanding the finished product. Wes had warned me that vintage cast metals of my restoration projects can out-gas and to expect something less than a glass smooth finish unless there are certain extra steps followed. I went to pick up the finish piece and I couldn't believe it was the same piece I dropped off; it was better that new! Wes is a wealth of knowledge, timely and fair. Honestly couldn't have had a better experience with these guys. I dropped my wheels off on a Wednesday and they were ready to roll by the weekend. I spoke with the owner for a whole and he was super cool and knew what he was talking about. He even talked me into getting a primer so the paint lasted longer. I had no idea that was even a thing. More than just bikes... I've had them do a few different things on different metals.... powder coating and cerakote(sp?). I've seen him do a varity of items, old wrought iron bed frames, store displays with "high end" and "industrial" finishes. He can make old look fresh & new look old. My only issue is that he has no public restroom, but I Ican deal with that. read more

Had to stop using Embee after nearly 20 years…read more The last time I was there, I was quoted $2,500 for a job that I had done for $600 before. They dropped the price to $1,600, saying it was the best they could do because of tariffs and rising cost of business. I believed them and gave them the job. Afterwards, something still felt off, so I went to 3 other shops and was quoted $400-600 for the same thing. Yesterday, I noticed the coating Embee did that last time, is coming off after a couple 2x4's were strapped to the piece. After giving them thousands of dollars in business over the years and more in referrals, they pull this? Very disappointing

The person behind the counter that runs the powder coating was so friendly and so knowledgeable out…read moreof his way to make sure that I knew everything I needed to know and then some I would highly recommend this place. I've gotten several quotes from other places their prices were lower, but the quality was Exceptional.
