I've had years of excellent service at this pharmacy - which is the only reason I'm giving them one last chance before ditching their incompetent, uncaring asses! In years and years, I had maybe one minor hiccup with getting my prescriptions filled here. I don't know what changed, but suddenly, it's absolutely gone to shit. For example: They've worked just fine with a particular prescriber for years. I've had no issues whatsoever with him, but suddenly they're insisting it's his fault they don't have my meds ready. Turns out, they randomly started faxing his phone line! His contact info didn't change, so wtf happened?? I just corrected their info - again. If they screw this up a third time, I won't give them a chance to endanger my health ever again. I get blatantly contradictory info from the person who answers the phone vs. the pharmacist, and from one pharmacist vs. another (or whoever they are - they don't even bother to tell you who you're dealing with, most of the time). Then they all just pass the buck - they clearly care about defending their egos, as individuals, more than they care about the patient who they all, as a pharmacy, are harming at that very moment. I'm now without an essential medication, yet again, solely because no one there can be bothered to do their freaking job right. They can't be bothered to show any hint of basic human compassion, either. They've repeatedly endangered my health and well-being, and apparently don't give a damn. Coming here was, at first, a massive relief - I'd just left a hell-hole where this sort of thing was the norm. I only left when they escalated from being merely incompetent to unconscionably negligent, after giving them way, way too many chances. I will not make that mistake again. Even though they have an advertisement on there window advertising the availability of in home covid tests the cashier was adamant that they don't carry them. She then had to ask someone who told her it was right behind her on the top shelf. They have close to 6 people working there and no one was helpful and seemingly like they don't like to talk to there customers. Back in 2002, when I was living in Jersey City and on meds for back pain due to a car accident, Victor and his staff always took care of me. On a recent trip and had run out of heart medicine and one phone call to Newport Pharmacy and five minutes later I had my meds. Now, I realize if you can stay away from your mechanic, doctor or pharmacist it's probably a good thing. Car is running. You're not sick and you don't need meds. My experience differ from others, but I really like the people who work here (pharm tech and pharmacist alike.) They're so convenient to where I live that I can easily pick up my stuff in five minutes especially when I use their website feature. They get slammed every so often and that's why they seem to have hurried attitudes, but they really do engage with you when it calms down. read more

This is a very basic pharmacy not carrying much besides medicine. Definitely doesn't have all of those extras that your typical pharmacy has such as toilet paper, cleaning products, etc. But it has all your typical medicinal needs at decent prices. I've filled several prescriptions here. I've never had to wait long and they always seem to have what I need in stock. For a neighborhood pharmacy I would think the employees would be a bit more friendly and chatty, but they're not. Regardless, I'm still very happy to have this place in the neighborhood! read more

I do not know what else you could want in a pharmacy. They are pleasant, work quickly and efficiently, always make sure to ask if you have questions about your medication, and the prices are low. I even received a handwritten letter from the owner about 6 months back, when I started going to Newport Pharmacy for my medications. Just an excellent experience. Which is hard to find in healthcare setting these days, and impossible to find at chain pharmacies. I'll be using Newport Pharmacy for as long as I live in the area. read more

I started going to Newport Pharmacy because I live in the Hamilton Park neighborhood and wanted to support local businesses. Over the few years that I've been a patron, I've had some issues that became more problematic and annoying over the years. I would order an Rx and be told it would be ready in 20 minutes, get there 2 hours later and still have to wait a while for it because it wasn't done yet. I even tried calling the day before and have had to wait. Most recently, I found out that the medication that I've been paying cash for for about three years is covered by my insurance. It's a very expensive medication and I've asked them time and again to please check and see with my insurance company to see if they will cover it, etc. They always told me that the insurance company doesn't cover it. I discovered that my insurance company does cover this drug...I was shocked. I brought this issue up to one of the staff. They said they would look into it. Long story short...I went in there to rectify this and had to explain my whole situation again to someone new and got an attitude from the pharmacist. I said I would try to sort it out myself, but was annoyed that they didn't do their job. They didn't feel I had any right to be angry. I had another Rx with me and asked that before they fill it they tell me how much it is. I was told it would be "three minutes." Suddenly, the two women at the counter put on their sunglasses and grabbed their cell phones and left. I stood there for more than 20 minutes with my 8 month old son strapped to my chest. Another customer had been completely ignored and was standing at the counter. Even the pharmacist, who was in plain sight...was ignoring us. Finally someone came in to begin their shift. I asked her (repeating myself yet again) if I could find out how much this Rx was before they filled it. She was confused as to where my Rx slip was, etc. The pharmacist then asked me the exact same questions (annoyed at me again) for the third time. I finally asked for my Rx back...I would take it somewhere else where they knew what they were doing. They wouldn't give it back right away. In the end, I got it back and decided to switch all my Rx's to Target. I hate switching to a chain like that, but need people who care about customer service and who know what they are doing. After more than three years...I will never go there again. read more

They can't process insurance and I had to pay out of pocket and file the insurance manually. It was a lot of hassle. I had to switch to a cvs although the cvs is much farther for me. What a shame since this pharmacy would have been so convenient to me. read more

SKETCHY PLACE! Do NOT use them! Take your prescription somewhere else. The final straw was that they sat on my prescription for 6 extra days which caused me to run out of my medicine. Then when I asked them what happened and that I need it straightened out they told me that it wasn't their problem. They are really really bad. Do not leave your health in the hands of these people. They are horrible. Finally- Something is not right on the insurance side. They tell the insurance company that they released my medication to me. Then they turn around and claim that they can't give me my medication. They are billing my insurance company for medication that they turn around and tell me they can't give me. read more

I've only tried this pharmacy because it's close to my home but would NOT recommend at all. Everytime I try to fill prescriptions, I am given a hard time about coverage, copays, generic brands etc. And they're very quick to charge you out of pocket prices. After clarifying w my insurance company, I still was not able to get my prescription. And when I take the prescription elsewhere to other pharmacies, I get my medication without any hassle. I was sick as a dog leaving urgent care in Hoboken with a prescription in hand. I went to 4 big pharmacies in JC and Hoboken and no one carried or could order the medicine. I've walked past this pharmacy for years and never thought to try them. I phoned and they were so nice and immediately able to help me. I waited less than 10 minutes and the pharmacist personally spoke to me on how to take the medication. So long to CVS, Duane Reade & others. Victor M. Mosquera is a great pharmacist who has offered an upgrade of services by phone or the internet which is most helpful. Having just moved from a neighborhood that had an amazing local pharmacy, I must admit that this place, on my first experience, was severely disappointing and frustrating. The few times I have gone there since, I speak with one person, who speaks to another, then they ask another person, and finally a 4th person comes to deal with me. I used to live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn where three ladies worked the pharmacy and never have I seen so many questions, delays, or what appears as flat out incompetency. If 3 ladies can handle this job, why are so many people behind the counter at this place that don't know what they are doing? They also filled my prescription with the cheap version without notifying me, which I suppose started all the drama - my old pharmacist always asked or told me if the doctor didn't specify. When I asked what my prescription was written for, the ladies behind the counter got flustered and I was asked to come back the following day. Not 5 minutes into my walk home, they call, they found my prescription - written for the name brand, I could come back and pick up my prescription, however being 9 months pregnant I wasn't in the mood to walk back and deal. To make a long story filled with several more errors on their part shorter, it took about three visits, lots of waiting and patience on my part to finally get my prescription - which in the end was short a weeks worth of pills.... I hate Duane Reade- type pharmacies, I like supporting locals, I like being treated like they want to know me and help me be healthy, but I have serious doubts about this place actually being helpful. The staff all seem unfriendly, distracted, uninterested in the customers, and act like they have no idea what they're doing when you ask a question. The situation could have been greatly improved if the actual pharmacist had come out to speak with me. read more

I love the idea of a neighborhood pharmacy and know a lot of people have had good experiences here. But my experience has never been that great. Even if I call ahead, I almost always have to wait a long time for my prescription to be filled. But my big issue is that they're not as careful as they should be. Recently I went in to pick up a prescription. The cashier started ringing it up without saying anything. I happened to look down, and it was the WRONG drug. Not just a generic, but the wrong thing. It was Cipro, a powerful antibiotic. They claimed it was on their system, but I hadn't been on Cipro for at least 5 months, and that was a one-time thing. The medication I was there to pick up on that day was totally different. I told them this was the wrong medication, and they didn't even apologize. They just went in back to look on the computer. The cashier said, "Do you remember the name of the medication?" I mean, really?? I'm not a doctor. I only remembered the letter it started with from what the doctor had told me. Didn't they have it under my name on the computer? Finally, they found it and filled the prescription. Now, at this point you'd think they'd apologize, but no. When a pharmacy fills a prescription, they should check the name of the drug in the system, show it to the customer, and then check it with the drug they're giving to the customer to take home. There's no room for error. It's inexcusable. If i had bad eyes or didn't bother to read the label, I'd be doing my body harm. Ridiculous. read more

I REALLY wanted to like this local pharmacy 2 blocks from my house. The only problem is that they have messed up every single time I have gone there. Calling ahead of time means nothing, I have never come in and not had to wait-like 30 minutes at best. And they don't seem understaffed, their staff just seems indifferent, standing in the back laughing and talking while people wait. I stopped coming here a while ago but decided to give it another shot...and they are still hopelessly disorganized. I'm only writing this in hopes that the owner will see it and decide to do something about their terrible service. So many people in this neighborhood would like to support a local pharmacy. This pharmacy doesn't deserve this lone star. Aside from the staff that's distracted, rude and unfriendly, they can't seem to get my medication processed right and ready. I gave a script for a cream and after a month of calling and followup they still couldn't get authorization from my MD. After speaking to my doctor who informed me that he had spoken to my insurance company two weeks earlier, i called them up to ask if they could fill it. The pharmacist on the phone said they could fill it and that she found me a coupon. However, when i got there to pick it up, i was shocked to find out my cream would cost me over $200 with coupon and they haven't done it yet because they weren't sure if i was going to get it. They said my insurance didn't want to pay for it. So, after a month of my skin condition getting worse waiting for an authorization from my MD, i find out that my insurance wouldn't pay it. I told them to hold it off, because i need to speak to my insurance. The next day, after waiting for several minutes on the phone to get things cleared, my insurance agent said the pharmacy didn't try to process my cream and that, I only need to pay $50 for it. After work, I dropped by the pharmacy to tell them what's up. I spoke to the annoying loud woman at the drop off counter. I was getting more upset because the lady i was speaking to was busy exchanging stories with the cashier. She kept on laughing and talking, i had to repeat myself again. She told me to take a seat and she'll get it done. So I did. After 30 minutes of waiting, I came to the counter and she was gone. There was no one there. Then an old lady from the back, the pharmacist i think asked me what i needed. I asked where the other lady went, she said she checked out for the day. I really felt my blood boil but I tried to stay calm. It took a lot for me to ask for my prescription back nicely. The pharmacist started looking for it but couldn't seem to find it. Several people came in and out, and I couldn't take it anymore. I just left. The next day i called my MD and told him what happened. He faxed another script to a Duane reede near my work place. The duane reade pharmacist, I spoke to told me that they'll have it available the next day, and it was and I didn't pay a dollar for it. The pharmacist used a coupon on line and got the $50 off, it was that easy. I just live a block away from newport pharmacy but this experience is enough for me to decide not to ever step foot in this store EVER again. read more

I was away for a few weeks and needed my meds shipped and it was FEDEX at no charge. I had a problem with my insurance where they wanted me to go to CVS and they pushed the insurance company to let me stay. Hours are great... never had a issue at all.
