Just have them verify with the phone number on the back. If you have the rewards, it's good to get a lot of points and cash back. Lots of deals on vitamins like buy one get one half off. I usually don't buy food here, but they do have a good selection of energy drinks. Not sure why a lot of the items are locked in glass cases, but the employees are around to unlock it if you ask for detergent or razors for shaving. read more

If you go on the website it clearly states that the purchase of a passport photo includes a digital copy. The entire process of renewing a passport is ONLINE. Open 24-hours and a pharmacy open until 10pm at night on weekdays (thankfully). They had the prescription done and they had a line even at 9:45pm. Suggests they could probably stay open later and still have some business. Also nice - they have a used / expired prescription drop off box. Every pharmacy should have one of these. Duane Reade is my local go-to convenience store / pharmacy. I have lived very close for the past 5+ years, so it's safe to say I've spend a decent amount of time here. They are well-stocked and have remained so during the Covid-19 outbreak which is much appreciated. Like most DRs, they have any and everything you could need in the following categories: toiletries, medication, snacks, cards. But, what sets this location apart from others that I've been to is the food selection. The frozen, dairy and pantry section are pretty legit. So much so, that you could get away with a small food shop here if you needed to. Oh, and the home supplies selection is pretty good too. You can basically find any sort of home cleaning product. Employees are always friendly and helpful. I've gotten to know some o the same familiar faces over the years which I really like. My only gripe is that the pharmacy can be very understaffed at times. It's not uncommon to wait for 20+ minutes if you are behind someone having an insurance issue and there is only one cashier. Otherwise, it's always a breeze to pick up medication and everyone is friendly. They often give out five dollar off coupons which is also a win. Overall, you can almost always find what you need here. And for that, I am grateful. read more

24-hour Dianne Reade with lots of empty shelves. If you're feeling ill at any time of the night, rest assured Duane Reade has their shelves of over-the-counter medicine readily stocked. However, if you seek Gatorade or seltzer good luck! The beverage selection can be a bit sparse here. For whatever reason the store was entirely sold out of Coca-Cola; literally every shape and size there was no Coca-Cola to be found. The lines here can be painfully long. Usually I find myself walking out of this location and heading to Sprove Marketplace around the corner on Columbus Drive. I would not recommend using this pharmacy for prescription pick-up. The lines are painfully long especially after 4pm. The pharmacists mean well, but it's an overall monotonous experience just standing there for 30 minutes. It's one of the places where we have a long list or complains but will end up going there because of its proximity to Path station, open 24 hours, and availability of so many products at one place. The Duane Reade itself isn't bad; Customer service is decent even though they are understocked sometimes- but they aren't completely to blame for that. Their pharmacy is an atrocity. Not only is their customer service horrible, but they LOST my medication because they put it under a different name (They put it under Samuel instead of Sam and therefore thought I was a different person). Then they wanted me to buy the medication outright even though they were adamant about not accepting my valid insurance (I switched plans on the account of a family member's death), which would come out to over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. Then they proceeded to tell me that my prescription was locked because my doctor filled one more than a week ago. They're lucky that the pharmacy is in a convenient location because they would be out of business for their appalling management and abhorrent customer service. read more

This Duane Reade is so friggin' convenient. You step out of the Grove St. Path train and boom - IN YO' FACE!!! It's awesome. I do feel that Duane Reades are the more expensive of the chain pharmacies. There never seems to be that great deal I have found in CVS and Walgreen but, both those chains are no where near me. This store has a CHASE ATM: score (they all might have an ATM at this point) and this store has 2 cash out areas - the pharmacy area and the frontal area. There is a nice little refrigerated food section where they have a pretty decent selection of dairy and frozen food products. Again, I try not to shop here too much as this place ain't no bargain but, for a last minute beauty supply or a pack of gum, love that this go-to spot is right next to my train. read more

Horrible customer service -- On day 2 in the process of getting my medication. I went yesterday - no one was able to find the medication for 10 minutes, and finally after finding it - another 15 minutes of waiting for them to tell me my drug is not covered, when my insurance co. says it IS. Now on day 2 of this journey... I've been patiently waiting for a phone call back after being put on hold for 10 mins, and then disconnected from a customer service employee from the pharmacy department. I've called back multiple times, unable to reach ANYONE, as they let their phone ring endlessly. Also, it doesn't look close to getting a returned phone call. I usually don't shop at Duane Reade, and prefer CVS - but at this time I have no other option. Why is it so difficult to be a customer? read more

Man, I'm pretty stoked that we have a Duane Reade now next to the PATH. Before it opened, I would usually try and put off annoying little pharmacy purchases until I could just grab it in the city as many local bodegas didn't carry specific brands I wanted and the ShopRite is just a little too far to hoof out for toiletries. My only complaint is that they have one of those giant reinforcement columns literally in front of their hair dye selection. Trying to see behind the column to find hair dye almost feels like a taped social experiment that I wasn't aware I was participating in. Hey, guys, you think you can make better use of that space? Probably one of the most unimpressive and dysfunctional locations to date. While the staff are generally polite, it's consistently understaffed; there is always a 7+ person line at the cash register and a 5+ person line at the pharmacy. Not to mention prescriptions are NEVER ready when they're supposed to be. You can go a day after being notified it's filled and there is always an excuse followed by at least a 15 minute wait. Looking for something specific or slightly obscure? You'll never find it because there is no one around to help you find it. In a central location like this (the heart of downtown Jersey City located next to the Grove Street Path station) it's surprising it's not open past midnight. I just went to Duane Reade by Walgreens at Grove street station to buy toothpaste and cigarettes, and cashier asked me for id because NJ State requires age verification (i'm 45 yo) and I gave the cashier my EBT Card that has my date of birth and picture on it. The Cashier then turns his back to me and whispers something with a colleague and is waving my a ID, then picks up telephone and on the speaker through out the store calls security for a fraud protection. I reached out and showed him my state drivers license, the cashier put down the phone receiver, didn't apologize or anything, I asked "What was that about?" he replied with Have a Good day sir. I don't know what happened, i got my toothpaste and cigarettes and left the store feeling endangered. Called for a mediation stock check for my dad and the lady who answered the phone was ridiculously slow! You don't need all of the letters of the first and last name to find a patient but she requested each and every letter and would repeat it and messed up multiple times! Unfortunately the name was super long but I was calling from out of the country so she def ate up my minutes!!! At the end she kept repeating that they needed to order the med but I told her she can't order it since the mediation is on back order (ie - not avail to get) but she was getting annoyed and saying she needed to order the med! Went to get a vaccination for my elderly folks, yesterday. We provided them with all the requested information. We were told to come the next day when the vaccine was in stock. When we arrived today we waited for an hour while they sorted out the details. In the end, they told us that we needed a prescription. When I inquired she gave me no explanation as to why this happened. The managing pharmacist wouldn't even acknowledge they had made an error. Went there to buy toothpaste the other day, but it's now impossible to simply buy toothpaste because it's all locked up. There's a sign assuring customers that this inconvenience is all for the best because it enables them to "keep prices low." If treating every customer like a potential shoplifter and making them call for help just to buy toothpaste is necessary to keep prices low, maybe just raise prices instead. Where are you, CVS? This drugstore doesn't even hold a candle to you! I'm not trying to hate. Duane Reade isn't a horrible convenience store, even though they are the more expensive option out of Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, etc. However, as far as this location goes, there's not much going for it besides being right outside of the Grove Street PATH station. This store is really small and it is kind of hard to find what you are looking for. This store, since its in a prime location, often has long lines. Because the shelves are so close to the register, lines disappear right into the tall aisles. It makes it that much harder to navigate and find what you need. You can't get cash back on your purchases at checkout, but there are two Chase ATMs at the main entrance and the pharmacy entrance if you need cash for the many festivals and events that happen in the square outside. I truthfully wouldn't come here if there was another drugstore option nearby my apartment but it'll have to do. Until then, I'll keep pining for CVS to take over this space! read more

Location, location, location. Basically merged with the Grove Street PATH train, this Duane Reade location can't be beat. But it's small, crowded, and prices are high. It can be hard to find things here. There were not too many choices for sunscreen, and I ended up paying an arm and a leg for a sunscreen that was only kind of what I was looking for. It's convenient when you don't want to drive, and basically the only game in town worth mentioning in the Grove Street area. But for most other drugstore products, I'd hit up Target or BBBY when I'm in the mood to drive. read more
