TL;DR/The Short Version: Acceptable diner food in cool diner environment. The Long Version: So Moe's Newport Restaurant used to be on Richmond Rd at the corner of Churchill Ave from 1988-2012 (where Zak's Westboro currently is, and The Savoy was before that). In 2013 it moved to it's current location on Churchill Ave at Scott St (where the owner's second restaurant, Donna's Express was (named after his wife). So the current location is actually called Moe's Newport Restaurant and Donna's Express). My husband and I went to the original location sometime in the late 2000s/early 2010s and thought it was ok, but we did not return until very recently. We thought after a decade plus, we would give it another try and check out its "new-to-us" location. My feelings remain unchanged. I had the Filet of Sole ($18.95) and my husband had the 2 pieces of liver with onions ($18.95). He actually ordered the liver with bacon, but it didn't come with bacon, but they didn't charge us for the bacon, so whatever. My meal came with a salad, steamed vegetables and choice of potatoes (I chose fries). My husband's meal just came with steamed vegetables and choice of potatoes. He also chose fries. I was impressed that my side salad was a legit mixed greens salad, and not just romaine or the dreaded iceberg lettuce, lol. It also had grape tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots. I forgot to ask for the dressing on the side so it was a little overdressed for my liking, but was still good. The dressing was an oily herb vinaigrette. My sole was a bit too fishy smelling and tasting for my liking, but still acceptable. It was very soft. The steamed vegetables were broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I thought they were ok, but my husband found them too mushy for his tastes. They were definitely soft and not al dente the way he likes his vegetables. The fries were satisfactory, but no wow factor for me. They were thick cut, which is admittedly not my favourite cut. I had a taste of my husband's dish and the liver was ok. I did really enjoy the gravy though. I may have dipped some of my fries in the gravy on his plate, lol ;) Service was courteous. We did have to wait a while for our bill, but at least our good came quickly. The ambiance is traditional diner with lots of Elvis memorabilia. This dates back to when the restaurant first opened and a journalist went there and noted the owner (Moe) looked like Elvis. He wrote up a newspaper article about an Elvis sighting at the restaurant and they took that and ran with it, creating an Elvis sighting society that met at the restaurant. Lol. It's a fun story. I felt this place was ok. When we were there there seemed to be many regulars. The restaurant has been around for 36 years, so they must be doing something right. I love this place. I've only been once but I can't wait to go back. It's a small place with lots of character and a menu with loads of choices. My brother ordered a hot chicken sandwich. It looked so good, I was envious watching him eating it so I tasted the gravy and was blown away by how good it was. He said it was the best hot chicken he's ever had. It had a loads of chicken in it and as I said the sauce was out of this world and it was served with hand cut fries and veggies. My mother and I split a club sandwich that was also super delish. I've driven by this place 1000 times and I always thought it was just a pizza place but it's so much more. Speaking of which they have an extensive pizza menu. Service was excellent. read more

We eat breakfast almost every weekend here and too our surprise it was pleasant to see that you hired a nice waitress we got to meet this morning. She was so nice and friendly and went out of her way to make us feel like we were at home. It's nice to see your hiring good people like her I believe she gave her name as Amy to us this is the kind of server all Establishments need a real good person down to earth. And like usual the food was beyond excellent keep up the good work you defiantly will have us as a returning customer every weekend for breakfast and we will be passing this on to family and friends also. It was moving day and it was cold and windy and we definitely needed some food as fuel and a little bit of comfort (I also had a cold... woe is me!). This place is just around the corner (okay, 2 corners) from my new apartment and so my trusty friends/movers stopped in for a break and some grub--it was a good decision! The place has a casual and go-with-the-flow kind of vibe. No one was in a rush and no one made us feel rushed. I felt like we could have stayed there all day checking out the Elvis sightings. A little note, they do serve breakfast all day, but the price goes up outside 'breakfast' hours. A friend got the pancakes and they smelled delicious! They commented that they were nice and fluffy--just the way a good pancake should be! Coffee was refilled efficiently, but the water refilling was a little slow. I was a little sick and a lot tired, so I needed a little comfort. So, naturally I got a milkshake with a side of soup and salad. The milkshake really hit the spot for me, was made from real ice cream, but wasn't quite as good as a shake from say, Zaks. The soup (potato leek that day) was so yummy I almost wish I had ordered another. The small Greek salad, was very nicely sized and had lots of veggies and feta. I was treated to this restaurant for lunch by a new friend who is currently living in Ottawa. It was pretty cool to meet up with him at the 2016 Ottawa marathon race weekend. First things first, It's kind of weird and fun to point out that this place is associated with Elvis Presley, as the sign on the wall of the outside of the restaurant proclaims. Another sign says that they make the world's greatest pizza ever, a claim that's really bold and sometimes controversial. Maybe Canada's best or Ottawa's best, but there was some debate as to what is really world's best, especially compared to Rome, Italy and various places in the United States (i.e. Chicago and New York, of course). My new friend from Ottawa had suggested this place and I was like, okay, what's better than pizza? Off we went. This place was about a 10 minute drive from the Shaw Centre, so that's not too bad. We arrived here around 12:15pm and it was not really busy. Better for us, since we didn't wait too long. The overall experience here was good, positive, but average. Did like the ambiance of a good ol fashion diner with good service. It was casual and quiet comfortable. We ended up sitting in the back with the many photos on the wall. The Newport restaurant is located at 322 Churchill Avenue North in Ottawa. It's a simple restaurant and/or diner in a residential neighborhood type setting. Parking can be simple here, street parking where you can find it. I'm pretty sure that there's public transit service going through here, but I'm a tourist here and it's nice to be able to have a car. There's always Uber to take you around. They accept major credit cards, so that's a good deal to have. They somehow are an authority on best pizza ever, so we decided to do just that. Prices here were decent enough to where we just split a Medium pizza and I ordered medium fries / potato wedges for good measure. Id like to think that those fries were cooked just for me. They were really good, complete with ketchup all over the place, just kind of like hitting the spot kind of good. Definitely satisfying after a few days of sightseeing in Ottawa. My time here at the Newport restaurant was brief, probably at most an hour or so for a nice lunch with a new friend. The server was very nice and we made small talk about the weather and it lead to conversation about running the marathon the next morning. It was fun that way. Even at the table further away, we overheard these older ladies about tomorrow's marathon and how it was going to be warm to borderline hot. What got me was that one of the ladies said "how far is a marathon?". I wanted to get up and say something, but I just let it go. I forgot to take photos of the menu, so I don't know what we ordered. I did take a photo of the pizza and the French fries; so that's some redeeming quality. For what it's worth, the pizza was good and delicious, but not sure if it measures up to "world's best", as they are claiming. The cheese on the pizza was satisfying and it just oozes with perfection in your mouth. The fries, as aforementioned before, was great and it's not fast food French fries you normally see at McDonald's or Burger King. I do love these types of French fries / potato wedges. The overall experience here was - as decent as they come. The restaurant itself was clean and had some bits of homespun charm and personality I've seen elsewhere in America. If you love pizza as much as the next guy, feel free to check this place out and make your own decision whether or not this place serves up the world's best pizza. While the pizza my friend and I did have was delicious, I probably would rate the pizza itself as a 4 out of 5 stars. We ordered an appetizer that never came, and my boyfriend had to track down our waitress for some sour cream that he had asked for when he first ordered his meal. All I could think the whole time was 'why have I never stopped here before?!' On the corner of Churchill and Scott, just north of Richmond is this unassuming little restaurant that looks like it's been there forever, because it has been! It has a diner feel with an eclectic menu, and apparently their pizzas are to die for. I noticed a decidedly Lebanese undertone threaded through the Italian favorites and decided to go with the Lebanese Platter. Hubs went the diner route with a hamburger steak. Both portions were 'Merican-ized; Quite hearty and reasonably priced. The Lebanese platter came with tabbouleh, hummus, spinach pie, stuffed grape leaf, falafel, kibbeh, skewer of chicken and kafta. And all of it was delicious. I don't even particularly like stuffed grape leaves or falafel but apparently it's because I haven't had them here before! The hamburger steak was huge, real mashed potatoes a good side of mixed veggies and gravy that was drool worthy. As is the case in any good diner, the desserts were in their rightful place in a glass case. The jamocha almond chocolate cake was yummm. But, by far the best part was the atmosphere. Our server greeted and hugged almost every patron as they were all regulars. Many simply ordered 'the usual' - including a couple next to us who hadn't been in in quite a while and the server remembered their order, including beverages. I went there twice. First time, service was okay. I had pizza and I don't think there is anything special about theirs. The slices were not too greasy. I don't remember which one I chose. Also, they charge you an extra 10 cents if you use credit and they didn't tell me right until I ask why the price was not the same on the bill. The 2nd time I went during lunch time, I ordered Hot Turkey. The waitress brought the plate and asked who ordered "Hot Chicken". After a moment, I said that I ordered Hot turkey. She replied: "Oh yeah, it's turkey.", put the plate on my table and left immediately. I looked at it and it seemed much like chicken. When she came back, I asked her that I ordered Hot turkey to which she replied bluntly: " It`s turkey". I gave in and I ate it. That "turkey" tasted a lot like chicken. For 12$, it was only two slice of bread with chicken. The gravy looked solid-ish so my meal was probably prepared first and left on the counter. However, the veggies were surprisingly delicious. When the bills came, she didn't have enough change so she manage to kept 35 cents as tip. I didn't tip because I wasn't too happy with the service. read more

Absolute garbage. Our food was missing half the ingredients they claimed it had (burgers said avocado, bacon, onion yet it only came with a lot of lettuce and tomato). They served us cheap beer claiming it was the premium brand we ordered with the excuse 'it was the bottom of the keg'. Our garlic bread was burnt to s**t and the waiter was super impatient. They had the audacity to charge 50 bucks for two butchered meals and garlic bread. Just moved to the area, tried it out, will never go back or recommend. read more

I have been a repeat customer with Newport for pizza delivery and must say the price, taste and quality never disappoint but I had a confrontation with who I think was the owner tonight and buddy this is not how you run a business. I made the mistake of forgetting to mention I wanted delivery and assumed they already had my info on file from my phone number so when it was taking longer than usual I realized they probably thought it was pick up. I called back at 8:22 pm and they close at 9:00 pm. The guy on the phone became angry with me and said he already sent his delivery boy home. I apologized and he said he would see what he could do. He then came back and said he is getting the dish washer to deliver it but that I had to pay cash. I said I had 15$ in cash but had to use a card for the rest. He then became more angry and said that I'm paying for it whether I pick it up or not then. I told him I'm sorry for the mix up but I can't pick it up. He kept repeating "what do you want me to do" over and over again and I said I guess just leave it. Then I ended the call. It was a misunderstanding but the dude went all mob boss on me. We have been satisfied Newport customers for years. We originally went to the first location several blocks away on Richmond road. We liked the staff and the food many time over. Our last trip however really turned us off. We sat inside and the service started okay but despite having placed our usual order of pizza with a fatouche salad we noticed that the other customers around who all came after us were getting their meals. We asked about our meal and were told it was coming. At the 45 minute mark we asked again and got the response that it was coming and that the waitress really cannot control the kitchen, sorry. Finally my wife's meal arrived but my daughter's and my meal still had not showed up. Remember this is a pizza and a salad. When we asked again we got an irritated response from the waitress. Finally after 10 plus minutes more our meals all arrived. At that point we just wanted to eat. After getting the bill, the waitress came back to chastise my wife for her 'outburst' (ie. asking about our meals). Then the waitress complained about how busy she was and asked if we had ever managed a restaurant. We found our traditional waiter who we really like and told him we were unhappy and he was very sympathetic. Then the best part. On the bill the name of the server was Donna. We soon realized this was the wife of the owner, she was in fact managing the place. Even after 30 minutes of forgetting to place our order she could have had a simple pizza to our table in 10 minutes but could not manage it. We were breakfast regulars for years at the Newport when it was on Richmond Rd. Our initial experience after it moved was not positive (...a bit cramped and very noisy). But after a long absence when we shifted our patronage elsewhere, we decided to give it another chance. We picked a morning when things were not particularly busy. The coffee (and generous refills) were great. However my breakfast arrived minus my toast order. ( I was told it would be ready "soon"). The plate and bacon arrived stone cold, the egg less than lukewarm, and the tomato wedges freezing cold, having obviously come straight from the fridge. The toast arrived late, after everything else had been eaten. With it came a couple of containers of marmalade from a well-known commercial manufacturer. The "marmalade" that emerged was colourless and tasteless and to my astonishment held tightly together in a gelatinous ball that completely refused to be spread....! If I had dropped it on the floor, I am sure it would have bounced! The second container yielded exactly the same refractory, inedible mass. My wife reported her small breakfast as more or less acceptable, but still not good value, considering the total bill came to nearly $20. We promised ourselves that to erase the experience of the Newport from our palates, we would be return to our regular diner as soon as possible. read more
