Long overdue for an updated review. The burgers haven't changed much but the cafeteria style fries we were served today really bring this place down. It even says "fresh cut fries" on the order ticket. Also we were mailed a flyer that promised a free tower of rings with our first online order, but upon pickup there was none given (even though we created an account as instructed). When asked the server claimed to not know about the promotion and no manager was present. Shame because it would have made up for the frozen fries. New management, new staff, way, way better now! Give it a try! It had been 2 years since we last went to the Fallowfield location because it was such a hot mess with their management and products. We've been driving from Barrhaven out to Stittsville just to avoid Fallowfield. We decided to give it another try after hearing there was new management. I have to say that the 3 of us agreed that our burgers were probably the best we've ever had at The Works, anywhere. We had Gettin' Piggy With It, 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon, and the 3-Ring Binder. Service was fantastic. Food was awesome. Abbey (hope I spelled that right) was super friendly and helpful. Keep it up Fallowfield and we'll keep coming back! read more

Don't waste your time! They should just close this place. The Works in Barrhaven used to be our go to place during COVID. Food was great and fast. Somehow in the last year this place has gone downhill very very fast. Now the food sucks and the customer service is not there. Last two times I've been in there the place is empty except for food deliveries waiting for their orders. Its took so long for the one waitress to seat us and bring us waters that we just left, after 15-20s on waiting. Tried to go back tonight and order take out same experience. They had one table eating in the restaurant but our food was not ready. The customer service by the employees was lacking. The staff was downright rude. So we left without our food! I am proud to say I was one of the first patrons of The Works when their first location opened in New Edinburgh in Ottawa. Sadly, it has since moved and that location has closed (as it was so popular and so small) and the business has changed hands a few times since it first opened. While it will never be quite the same and the burger-topping-combination options have significantly decreased, it's still a really fantastic and unique burger experience! My favourite is currently rendered to as "the hipster": avocado, Havarti, and caramelized onions with a portobello patty. This particular location is a decent size and has brought back vibrancy to an otherwise suffering mall on Fallowfield. Good service and decent parking - recommended for a fun night with friends as an alternative to pubs or bars. read more

If you are looking for good eats and fantastic service-you've found it! Our first visit to The Works certainly won't be our last. Upon entering this casual eatery with a rustic meets industrial vibe, we were greeted with a smile from our server. We took a nice seat by the window and Dana asked us if it was our first visit. She assured us that even though the menu could be intimidating with so many combinations and choices, that we could add our substitute anything we wanted. My husband ordered the Smoky Mountain with a side of sweet potatoes fries and a ranch dipping sauce. I ordered the Ho Hum 2 with extra mushrooms, sweet potato fries and a Chipotle dipping sauce. Once our food was served, Dana was quick to make sure everything was perfect. I asked to switch out my dipping sauce and she was did so with a smile. The food was great. We'll cooked, tasty, well seasoned but what made the difference here was the service. Our waitress could give a master class on perfect timing, courtesy and professionalism. I went here back in the day when it first opened; the burgers are always a solid choice, and it's fun to pick the ones with lots of toppings! My favourite thing here are the milkshakes; they are VERY thick, and they have creative combos as well. You can grab them to go! Their appetizers are also really delicious, such as the tower of rings paired with their own sauces. Very satisfying! I have had only mediocre experiences at The Works, but as it had been several years, I thought I would try it again (although first visit at Barrhaven location). Apart from the friendly and well meaning staff, the rest of the experience was awful. Our server was "in training." She was not being supervised, did not know the menu, and was half asleep. 20 minutes to get drinks. 40 minutes to get our meals, which were first delivered to another table. We watched as our meals were handled by other customers, removed, buns changed, then delivered to us. YUCK! Mine consisted of a small, shrivelled, dry piece of chicken on a massive bun. My partner's was a tiny, overcooked beef patty on the wrong bun. So 2 handled, overcooked burgers and a drink for $50. Never going back read more

What a busy location! Went in at 5pm on a Friday and, as we thought, the place was insanely busy. But we were lucky enough to be seated in less than 10 minutes - however, we were seated in the back. Regardless of that (Try not to get seated in the back it's actually quite dark), the food, the service and the atmosphere was pretty great. Atmosphere: The place was bumpin! Completely full, from when we entered and when we left, there was never a point where there weren't people waiting. The decor is pretty interesting, with random items stuck to the wall (actual items they aren't painted on) and the seats were fairly comfortable (though tables were a bit small). All in all, great place to be if you like noisy, busy atmospheres. Food: Oh god, how do I even begin? We started off with Works tower-O-rings and it was delicious (though they were a bit light on the onion rings, since the tower-o-rings didn't go straight to the top). We got the garlic aioli dip and my god, it was gone within minutes. (We were hungry) I ordered the oreo cookie milkshake and it is pretty much just ice cream with oreo bits blended up. It was amazing - but it is heavy. So if you are a light eater, I would recommend against the 12oz as I ended up feeling a bit heavy and not great afterward. I ended up getting the Gettin' Piggy with it with a poutine and my god was it delicious. It was filled with different pieces of bacon as well as deep fried onion bits. It was so gigantic that I actually had to take half of it to go, along with my crispy and saucy poutine (they were generous with the cheese curds which was awesome). Service: Our server, Deanna was quite friendly and quick! She got our orders done fast and brought our orders out in a very efficient manner. She talked a lot to us which we quite enjoyed, gave us some recommendations (that I ended up liking a lot) and was just all around quite pleasant. The only criticism I have is that this is not a public transit-friendly location. Which means that if you want to come here, driving is probably your best bet. Tip: If you go online and join their Burgers with Benefits program! If you sign up, they send you awesome coupons. For example, when you first sign up, you'll receive a coupon for a FREE tower-o-rings (which expire three weeks after you sign up)! New management needs time to grow. Our food was great as The Works usually are, but I think staff needs a little more time to grow in the customer service end of things. We ordered a kids meal for our son with a root beer, his usual drink when we eat out. Our server told us they were out of fountain root beer so he gave us a bottle of Stewarts root beer instead, but when our bill arrived we were charged almost $4 for the one root beer. The server apologized for the mistake because a kids meal is suppose to include a drink. When the server asked a manager to correct the problem he was told that non-fountain drinks can not be included in a kids meal. So managements answer was basicly "too bad so sad, but you have to pay for our mistake". The server again apologized and offered to pay for the root beer himself. We didn't feel the server should pay for management providing inadequate training and poor customer service skills so we ate the cost of the drink without deducting from the server/cooks tip. I would like to be clear, the server did a good job and was very friendly, it seems management will be the hurdle this location will have to get over. read more

This is actually the fourth (yes, fourth!) 'The Works' location I've visited in Ottawa. Just like the rest, this place is awesome. I was looking for a quick bite to eat last week in Barrhaven, so I thought I would pop by for a Hold The Phone burger, a tried and true favourite. To start, our server was amazing. I can't remember her name, but she was super friendly and made the experience even more enjoyable. This time I ordered a chocolate milkshake to go along with my meal. I seriously think I could eat their onion rings with beechwood sauce and milkshakes every day for the rest of my life - so good! Wow, this place is great! The service was excellent and the burgers were HUGE! seriously, they were so big they were hard to bite into. They have a huge selection of burgers and have a gluten free bun which was alright. The kitchen forgot the little extras I ordered on my burger but our waitress was quick to remedy the problem. I really like all the burgers, but I wish their was a "build your own burger" option since they have so many amazing toppings. The prices were many a little high, but you get a lot of food so I'm not gonna complain too much. What impressed us the most was the service, our waitress was so personable and attentive. I was looking for a good basic burger. No frills, no exotic ingredients, just a well done basic burger with minimal extras. The menu includes quite a few "fancy" burgers but still has a few entries for what they call "Ho Hum" burgers. The burger was cooked exactly as I like it with just a hint of red in the middle. Was here for lunch with co-workers recently. I hadn't been to this location before but had been to The Works a few times in the past, albeit quite a few years ago. I decided to try "The Hipster" which was Havarti cheese, avocado and caramelized onions. I paired that with Whole wheat bun and turkey burger patty. I asked for sweet potato fries instead of regular fries. The burger itself was delicious. The avocado piece was big, the cheese was melted to perfection and the caramelized onions as expected. The whole wheat bun wasn't dry or hard, it was soft and nice. The turkey patty was tasty but a bit dry, I couldn't tell if it was because it was slightly over-cooked or just the recipe for it was just meant to be this way. I would likely try a different burger with the turkey patty again just to see if it was the same next time. Otherwise good experience. Liked the food, the waitress was friendly. We were quite a big group. The wait time was reasonable and there didn't seem to be any mistakes with any of the orders. read more

Had lunch here yesterday; The Works is my go-to place when I have friends or family visiting because there is something for everyone and the unique burger toppings always seem to entertain first timers. On this visit, I was with my cousin who has some food allergies; the server was reasonably well informed, though I think once we started asking questions about gluten-free she should have directed us to the back of the menu. Regardless, the server was pleasant, patient, and found answers to all of our questions. I recently discovered the joy of adding a burger patty (the veggie patty) to my salad for a small extra charge. This addition takes a decent sized meal and makes it perfect; I find that a burger and fries at lunch is too much for me but I'm a trooper and will eat the whole thing. If you the presence of mind to stop eating when you're full, this probably isn't a problem for you. My house salad (Weeds) was fresh and plentiful when it arrived. My cousin loved her The Hipster (carmelized onions, avocado, and brie) with a chicken breast, on a gluten-free bun with a side of cole slaw. She devoured her burger and seemed to love every minute of it. It's beyond my comprehension but she also loved the cole slaw; I'm not much for cole slaw but apparently it's pretty great. I'll say this: it's not the fastest burger on the planet. Good things are worth waiting for but if you're on a tight timeline, you might find yourself pressed for time to enjoy your meal. There are not enough words to describe how much I love this place. The interior design of this place is amazing! Very industrial. I am sad to say that I was highly amused that my drink came in a measuring cup. Probably far more amused than I should be. The onion rings were really, really good and the dipping sauces were good as well. The burger I had was amazing. The menu is a bit daunting at first but it's not so bad once you realize that you choose everything from the patty (elk, beef, chicken, etc) to the bun! During our recent visit, one of the staff/managers was startlingly rude to a customer at a neighbouring table.  The girl- quietly on her own- seemed quite upset, and left quickly afterwards. We didn't have any issues, ourselves, but were made uncomfortable by the exchange.  We sort of figure that the girl must have been off-duty staff.  No uniform, but can't imagine the woman thinking she could get away with treating a normal customer that way.  Not that that makes it better!  Who wants to eat at a restaurant where they treat their staff that way?! Sadly, this is usually my "go to place". Tonight, I was very much let down. I ordered a Caesar that was see thru and lacked clamato. Although the staff was friendly as usual, the food was a disappointment. Die cut fries were cold and greasy compared to the usual crisp and hot flavour. BEST Buger joint in Ottawa! i love all the Works locations, this one just happens to be in my neighbourhood. I`ve been eating at the Works is 2005 and it`s always awesomely great food! I just tried their lemonade and LOVED it!!! I always get the Gotta Be KD Burger with a Chicken patty. I also love their Beach House sauce for burger toppings or onion ring or fry dipping. Well, I have to say 'The Works' is well named! Stick with 'The Works' but pass on the meat... I had a blue cheese and bacon burger. The menu promised it would be flamed seared beef. It was a burnt pre-formed patty. You know, the type of 'mystery meat' that is molded to look like real hamburger, but when you bite inside, you can't help but wonder if it includes the 'liver of a cat' along with 'this and that...' If I ever go again (stranger things have happened) I think I will ask for the works, hold the meat! read more

I've been at this location twice since their recent opening. I think the service is great even though you can tell the staff are undergoing rigorous training. While I don't care for free things, the staff offered free dips for our onion rings which was nice. Burgers are very good and prices are decent. Since its the new year and my resolution is to lose weight, I might not come here anything soon but for those who enjoy a good burger, this is the joint for it. read more

Had dinner at the works. The burger was dried and the fries was also dried and hard. It seemed to me like the meat was not good grade 'cause it was chewy. It is the worst burger I've had so far beside MacDonald. I've given and extra star because we had the tower ring for free because we had a coupon - but even the onion rings weren't crispy. read more
