If dental phobia has been stopping you from going to the dentist for years, think no further and call this practice! I am absolutely amazed by everyone at this office. From the receptionist/ scheduler Karen, to the hygienist Alex, and of course the dentist, Dr. Chiou. Every point of contact I made has blow me away with their friendliness, professionalism and knowledge. We moved to Newton right before the pandemic and we have been looking for a dental practice for our family to call home. I came here after having not the best experience in another practice (which took all the courage in me to get to), I thought I'd give this highly rated practice a shot and get a second opinion. I am so glad I did. Dr. Chiou picked up the phone and spoke to me PRIOR to my appointment and gave me an overview of what dental work might be needed after looking at my X-rays. After learning about my absolute fear of Novocain, he reassured me that everything was going to be ok. The hygienist Alex was actually the one who gave me the Novocain, and performed my deep cleaning and she is amazing- skilled, patient and gentle. She made my whole experience beyond bearable and frankly, painless! The office is modern, clean, and awkwardly calming for a dental office. Dr Chiou and his team at Newton Dental Group are amazing. I have been a patient here for several years. From the front desk to his assistants and hygienists, they are all very skilled, kind, patient and understanding. Dr Chiou does an excellent job at making you feel comfortable and he is an artist at what he does. He replaced four of my bonded front teeth with veneers and crowns, and they look and feel amazing. This was a huge job that took 6 hours. Every minute I was in the chair he and his team made me feel comfortable and was very accommodating. I have always hated going to the dentist but I am so thankful I found Newton Dental Group. I found them through yelp actually and saw that they had great reviews and now I know why. The office itself is incredibly nice, clean and welcoming. The staff from the receptionists to the hygienists are all amazing and Dr. Chiou is the BEST. He's fixed a lot of my old dental work that was not done well and had become compromised. He explains everything thoroughly and does not push unnecessary procedures. I also really appreciate that they do a same day crown...no more temporary crowns and double appointments! I have recommended a lot of people here and they are all happy clients as well. I have had nothing but positive experiences since I started coming to this office. I left another dental office because they blew through my FSA with I believe (within a few months) unnecessary dental procedures. Although I had always maintained a healthy amount in FSA. All of it went to dental at the beginning of the year at this other office. We have always paid close attention to our dental needs annually so this was a big disappointment but Dr. Chiou only did what was necessary and what we asked for. Our costs were now back to what we were used to paying. We were always notified about costs before any procedure was performed and how much out of pocket expenses were our responsibility. But even more important, Dr. Chiou always put me at ease with his professionalism, ease at which he worked and the explanation of procedures. I am always nervous at dentist offices and had my fair share of HORRIBLE experiences and didn't really like or trust dentist but I felt COMPLETELY comfortable with Dr. Chiou. Going to the dentist isn't something one usually looks forward to. However, since I've started seeing Dr. Chiou, I genuinely do. His work is incredible- he walks you through what he's doing so you feel comfortable, he's extremely knowledgeable and gentle. Each filling he's given me has been done with such care it feels more professionally done than any other dentist I've been to. The staff are all amazing, easy to reach and scheduling is a breeze. I just had my first procedure at Newton Dental Group, and I can't be more satisfied. The entire team was fantastic. Dr. Chiou was so patient, careful and professional. I got my first crown and everything went well. He tried to leave as much as he could of my natural tooth, and he performed computer simulation of the crown in front of me. That was so cool to see. Crown was sent to the miller and then was baked. Right after he placed it within 10 minutes. The entire process lasted about 2 hours. I'm still adjusting to it since i just got it done, so I might go back for him to check again if I feel any discomfort. But the atmosphere was just great. I didn't get the name of his dental assistant, but she was amazing and they are such a great team. I would highly recommend it. read more

Dr. Chiou exemplifies expertise and experience. He is able to effectively communicate detailed information in way that I was able to understand. I felt completely taken care of during my visit. The office itself is very welcoming and feels like walking into a family home. The receptionist was very friendly and Dr. Chiou even came out to make an introduction while I was filling out the paperwork in the front. I really liked that. It's the little things that really make a difference. An enjoyable feeling was felt throughout my appointment. Jen the hygienist went above and beyond and was very personable. I would highly not recommend going here for your dental work. This group employs a predatory practice and they are not very ethical when it comes to proper billing and price quotations. This group originally gave me a price quote for a few fillings for my teeth that I was fine with. It wasn't until RIGHT AFTER my procedure was done, when they tripled my bill and told me I had to pay 3x the amount at the front door. Being the ethical person I am, of course I paid. But how is it fair to quote your customers one price and then charge them over 3x the amount right after the procedure is done? I felt like I got baited and switched. I mean, how can I refuse to pay at the front door when I already received the services? If you do end up going here, just be careful. Ask for a itemized list for the procedure when you receive a price quote. Make sure you get everything in writing. Edit: Brendan's comments are untrue and he is being extremely dishonest. I've already paid for everything on the day of the procedure. If I still owe money then how do I have a copy of the receipt? You can see on the receipt that I was charged at 9:53AM on 04/09/19 which was right after my appointment which was scheduled for 9. If I still owed money, then why would I even bother to post here? His staff kindly squeezed me in so that I could be seen within a week. I was so nervous the day of my appointment and Julie reassured me that everything would be ok. Since I was little, going to the dentist was my worst nightmare! Since switching dentist a few years ago I can truly say that I love my dentist. Dr. Shahriar is an amazing dentist, she is super nice and makes me feel very comfortable and relaxed when getting any procedure done. The whole team at this office is very friendly and professional! I used to go to the dentist once every 5 years but since switching to dr. Shahriar I make sure to go at least twice a year for my cleanings. SAVE YOURSELF! PLEASE, DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST!!! She botched my $1,200 crown and filing next to it - ONE YEAR LATER I am still dealing with pain and trying to fix HER MESS UP!!! This has cost me $5,000 out of pocket. She created a crown that was 3 times too large for my mouth and really had no overall shape whatsoever, then when I kept going back to have it filed down because of the pain it was causing she drilled a hole through it but didn't even tell me!!! The tooth next to it she drilled and filled, but when she filled it she didn't let the filing dry while she layered it causing me extreme pain. I had to go back to my hometown dentist to get all of this straightened out - gum surgery, a root canal, crown, and maybe another root canal later I am slowly becoming free of pain. It was critical that I get back to work as soon as possible. I was in pain. I called newton dental group and they said they were able to squeeze me in same day. I left work at 1130am. Got diagnosed and got a root canal done. I was back at work by 1230pm. 1 hour root canal service..awesome! I felt no pain whatsoever. Only if all denistry were the same. Maybe more would go. Another six star review here! I had my first visit today to Newton Dental and Dr. Chiou to replace a crown. It was one of the best and most stress-free dentist experiences I've ever had. The team was superb and got me out of there with a new crown in just over 2 hrs. They make the crown there, so there is no messing about with temporary crowns which was a huge relief. Crowns are never a pleasant experience but this is as close as it gets. No pain or anything beyond mild discomfort during the procedure. And they told me what they were doing every step of the way. As a bonus, Dr. Chiou is pleasant and personable. Loved my old dentist and was bummed when she retired and sold her practice, but I'm so delighted to have found Dr Chiou and Newton Dental and look forward to a very long association with them. I purchased the groupon for a crown. I was a little nervous going in but I had such a positive experience that I would make her my permanent dentist (if I wasn't moving away ) . Every day I regret that I let her touch my teeth! Please stay away from her! She suggested the bridge that I didn't need and shaved my healthy teeth down... She put a bulky and misshaped bridge over them. I started having pain IMMEDIATELY after she put that bridge! It DIDN'T fit my mouth! What kind of dental lab does she use? Students? I couldn't not live with that bridge! I had to remove it. I had to do the root canals since she damaged the teeth and the nerves! She told me that she is not a general dentist but a cosmetic dentist. That people come to her to redo the work after general dentists messed up. After I told it to other dentists they laughed saying that there is no cosmetic dentist specialty. The fact is that the majority of dentists are general dentists. This means that they do not have formal training in the restorative or the aesthetic reconstruction of teeth. To make things explicitly clear, "cosmetic dentistry" is not a specialty. To become the specialist in aesthetic the dentist should get an additional training in dental school to become a prosthodontist. So she is just a general dentist but she keeps saying about cosmetic dentist to all her patients hiding the real facts. That "cosmetic" dentist made crowns for me and she made multiple adjustments sanding them, so they turned to be too thin and fragile. One year later those crowns cracked and teeth became infected. I am in the process of having at least four of Dr Shahriar's implants replaced due to infection. The cost will be at least $24,000. The implants that Dr. Shahriar did became loose and had to be extracted.They were the short version that have a high failure rare. I might note that one implant that she did has remained solid but I was not given the option of which type of implant . Dr Shahriar also did a 2 unit crown that became loose. She offered to redo it but did not offer a reduced fee. Another poorly fitted crown was replaced with another poorly fitted crown. I was her patient for almost 10 years and have spent $40,000 during that time. When I petitioned her and threatened to sue, her response was that my vegetarian diet and poor dental hygiene were the cause of failure. I have filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Department of Health. I researched the Massachusetts Dental Society and was told that she was not a registered member. the only positive point I can make about her practice is that Dr Shahriar was always courteous, but then so is my landlord. read more
