I am leaving this review only because it seems like maybe there is someone here who responds and it is a last resort to try to get in touch with this practice, as I have had a MASSIVE headache this week trying to get in touch with anyone through email or phone. Gentle Dental, please take notice and fix your communication practices! Although I stopped being a patient at this practice about 6 months ago, I started receiving emails of an ortho consult I previously scheduled a little over a week ago. [Side note: the reason I had to make this ortho consult is because on my first ortho consult, they didn't use my insurance information I had on file, so I couldn't get an estimate through my insurer (even though the office clearly had my insurance for the cleanings). No idea why this was missed on their end, but for some reason the only solution offered was for me to take more time out of my schedule and schedule a second ortho appointment due to their mistake to get an accurate estimate.] The ortho consult emails looked like spam as they had no confirm/cancel information, so I initially ignored them. As I continued to get emails (still with no clear ability to confirm/cancel), I decided to call to confirm. Below is the saga that ensued: 1. On the first call to Gentle Dental Brighton I had to hang up to get to a meeting after being put on hold for 5 mins. 2. I called back later but got voicemail, so I left a message to please cancel the appt. This should have been sufficient. 3. I also tried to email another address I had on file for Gentle Dental with a request to cancel for good measure and asked for confirmation, but got no reply. 4. The following day I got a message from a new number reminding me of the appointment. Frustrating, but I tried to call the number noted in the message (which was different than the number that called me) to double confirm. Unfortunately, the number they left in the message was for different Gentle Dental office (in JP) than where my appt was scheduled, so they couldn't help. 5. I then called the Brighton Gentle Dental again, but their voicemail box was full and I couldn't leave any more messages! This was starting to get really upsetting. 6. I then called the original number back, which was for a Gentle Dental in another state (NH?!), who also said they couldn't help. I shared that I was really struggling to get in touch to cancel this appt and they advised replying to the emails. 7. I did get another email message from the strange looking email, so I tried to reply cancel, but I got a bounceback! This was getting ridiculous. 8. I tried again calling Gentle Dental (for at least the 4th time) and finally got a person who seemed nice and said they'd cancel my appointment and remove me from their records. The end of the saga, I naively hoped! Today, the day of the appointment, I get another text message confirming my appointment, with no ability to cancel. I thought maybe it takes some time to remove me from the system. I did unsubscribe again to the text message. I then got a voicemail from Gentle Dental saying that I missed my appointment!! 9. I left another voicemail saying that I had tried to cancel and to please remove me from their records. I sincerely hope this is the end, but who knows. It's been a few days since I wrote this review, and am now adding: 10. The day after the appointment, I got an email asking me to fill out a survey about my experience, which I did--pointing them to this yelp review. 11. The same day I got an email my appointment that I missed and asking me to reschedule. I got the same email days later. How can I get removed from this listserv? Updated a week after writing this review: 12. Today I got an email survey and a text survey asking me about my experience, even though I had already opted out of text notifications (this survey came from a different number) and had asked to be removed many times now. This may be the most disorganized practice I've ever seen. I am so frustrated that this much effort was spent to cancel an appointment, and it was STILL not cancelled. Please fix this, Gentle Dental! Separately from this, I did have some concern that I was getting asked to change fillings and had cavities too frequently, because even though I always went every 6 months religiously, one year I had to have something like 6 fillings all of a sudden. On my last visit, I was flagged to have another filling replaced, but when I saw my new dentist (6 months later) they said it was fine? On the plus side, I will say that my dental hygienists were always been incredibly nice, and Dr. Meyer was as well. read more

The good: The care I received was fantastic. The dentist and hygienist was wonderful. The bad: The office staff however was horrible. I had a cleaning and exam scheduled yesterday, was informed during my xrays that there was no hygienist available for my cleaning until the afternoon, which confused me. I ended up needing a filling so I booked a cleaning and filling for this morning. Checked in as usual, got my cleaning was brought into the doctors chair. The doctor was about to come in and numb me when the front desk person stopped the dental assistant from setting up and make me pay for my filling. I signed an agreement the day before agreeing to the estimated payment. I was frustrated paid and got my filling and requested to speak to the manager after. The manager Ashlyn was less than professional. I told her about my frustration with yesterday and now today getting taken out of the chair to pay for a filling that I was already set up to get sitting in the chair. Then I told her I was frustrated that I booked an exam and cleaning online and wasn't informed until during my appointment yesterday that I wouldn't be able to get my cleaning. She told me since I made the appointment online it only shows up on the doctor schedule and I should have called to confirm the hygienist availability for the cleaning. I received text and emails confirming both my cleaning AND exam for weeks prior. I asked how to avoid this for future appointments and she told me I need to call to confirm hygienist availability... because thy have a hygienist on maternity leave. I don't know why myself as the client should have to call to confirm they have a hygienist available for an appointment I already received confirmation for. I then tried to book my next cleaning and she continued to argue with me including as I'm walking out the door cause I had to leave I was so frustrated with the interaction. Make sure you CALL to book your appointments and clarify they actually have staff available for the service you're booking for read more

Just wanted to give a shout out to this magnificent team of dedicated professionals. They truly put the gentle in Gentle Dental. I've been seeing them for over a year and really appreciate all their great care. They fixed a tooth and gave me great cleanings. Now I'm getting the Invisalign. They are always kind and patient (even when I was a brat). How many people can say they actually look forward to visiting the dentist? I can! Always a pleasure. read more

In short: Terrible customer service. The front desk never answers the phone. They are impolite and frustrating to work with. And almost a year after my visit they are trying to charge me again for a visit. In March/April 21 my primary dentist referred me her because she could not fit me in and the work was urgent. I scheduled an appointment to have the work done, showed up, gave them my referral, they said they didnt need it, when I went to the back she said its just a check in to ensure what work needs to be done. This was incredibly frustrating because I had tried to give them the referral with the exact work that needed to be done. Im a single mom and had already booked the sitter for a 3 hour time block as planned and ended up only being there for about 15 mins for them to tell me what i was referred for was correct. Huge waste of time, money, and gas. Then at the end of the appointment when I went to schedule the actual appointment to do the work (for the second time) they handed me a quote for $3000. I said that doesnt make sense, my insurance referred me here it should be completely covered. They said they dont take my insurance oh and by the way you also have to pay $300 for todays visit. $300 for them to tell me that the referral I had tried to hand them in the beginning was correct?! Then to wait and tell me after the fact that my insurance does not cover the visit. Those are disgusting business techniques. I immediately called my insurance and they sat on the phone with them and gentle dental brighton to walk the front desk lady through how to submit a claim to my insurance since she couldnt figure it out. 3 months later I get a bill in the mail from gentle dental saying I owe the $300 still. Again I sat on the phone with gentle dental and my insurance company and they again walked the lady through how to submit a claim to my insurance company. Almost a year later. I get a text from a number that is not associated with gentle dental anywhere that I can find (appears to be someones cell phone) and they say your insurance denied our claim for your visit so you still owe us $300. I immediately call my insurance and they checked all of their records and said that gentle dental has not submit any claims. I have tried to call gentle dental over and over again and no one will answer the phone. Its incredibly frustrating to try to resolve this situation because I cannot get gentle dental to respond. Their practices are appalling, unethical, and disgusting. I cannot recommend enough that you do not use this place. read more

Came here for a new patient visit and was really impressed by the kindness of the front desk staff and the doctor. Dr. Zelikov answered all of my questions with thorough explanations. The scheduling is a bit of a hassle since they do not do cleanings on the same day as your initial examination. Also, after your initial exam, if you need anything else done like a filling, that is scheduled separate from your cleaning as well since the doctor and hygienist have separate schedules. Even though their system is inconvenient, I don't mind that much because of their service. I will update my review after my next couple visits if need be. read more

I would like to write a review about this place, the experience I had with this dental office had scarred me for life. I had a cavity, which they identified as a root canal. Back then I was young and didn't know better, so agreed to have this "new" dentist "practice" on me. She tried to make money and maxed out all my dental insurance coverage, and I paid over a thousand extra on top of the dental insurance. The dentist messed up the root canal. When I told her I was in pain, she simply thought I couldn't take any pain, didn't care and kept on pushing the pin into my gum and all the way up. After she messed up my root canal, instead of taking the responsibility, they lied to me and said,"we would call a specialist to perform a surgery on you to fix the problem, you pay for it first, then we will reimburse you." Guess what, after going through an almost three hour long oral surgery, where the surgeon has to cut my gum my bone open, I paid over 3000 dollars from my own pocked (not talking about the money I had to pay for the root canal) they refused to pay me back. Had some BS excuse and left me hanging. The people here are unethical, heartless, nearly inhuman! They just want to make money and don't care about the patients at all. They have scarred me for life, I lost a back tooth (which could have been a regular filling!!!) Don't ever come here! I have the worst dental phobias took a fall and broke my front teeth knocked a couple loose. I went to gentile dental and the staff was amazing they understood completely they took there time with me I had to have 2 teeth pulled and a partial made. Dr meyers is a shining star didn't feel a thing she put my partial in and they look just like my real teeth i couldn't be happier they make a great team from start to finish . Like everyone, I really don't like dental procedures. I get anxious and jumpy when people are poking around in my mouth with sharp things. Dr. Myer was incredibly patient and helped me out in therapeutic alternatives to work with my anxiety. As a result, I went from my usual white knuckling the arm rest to thinking, "Hey. At least I get a break from work!". She checked in with me often during the fillings, and we even had a safe word signal to let her know when I needed to take a break. 5 gold stars, Gentle Dental. I have been a patient of Dr. Rayev for 20 years! He is a very attentive, kind, highly skilled dentist! I have, on occasion had to wait, but then again, I have certainly been the cause of others having to wait!! He spends the time necessary to fully understand your issue, and then presents options. He is gentle, and the MASTER of Novocaine! (And, I am that 1 in 100 that doesn't numb easily!!!!) Because of a sledding accident which shattered some of my teeth when I was 11, I have been unfortunately privy to experiencing approximately 20 different dentists. Dr. Rayev is the BEST! I was in yesterday for an adjustment on my denture, and his assistant, Iovane, was a tremendous help to me. Their slogan is true--You should love your dentist! And, I do! read more

My fiancé tried to get cleanings at this place TWICE. Both times they called, two or three days before the appointments, and cancelled on him! The first time he made the appointment months in advance and they called to say they double booked and had to reschedule. I came here after the guilt of a lapse in going to the dentist. I took them up on their $57 new patient offer and was given a good looking over/x-ray exam by Dr. Rayev, who was very pleasant and mild mannered. He pronounced my teeth a-ok...so, I have not had any actual dental work done and cannot attest to their fillings and crowns etc... However! I must say that their head hygienist is fantastic. She is very thorough and works with you to find the problem in your day to day cleaning habits so that they end up more effective. She will also regale you with stories of her world travels and her other full-time job as a concerned grandmother. Cleanings run at $92, I believe. Additionally, the staff is very friendly and though their schedule is busy they tend to be as flexible as possible. update: I have been going here pretty regularly now for the past couple of years. As I've gotten to know the staff, I like this place a lot more. They are NOT looking to rip people off. I don't have insurance and the price points are reasonable; they also take these things into consideration and are happy to work with you on what you can afford at the time. I will finally be getting my wisdom teeth out in January, so I will have an update then on oral surgery! read more

One of my fillings cracked and when I went there they charged me $93 for just looking whats wrong! Doctor said you need a root canal and that costs $2000!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said I can go back to Turkey (I am from Turkey) for $600 (cost of flight) and get it done for $100 !!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me! How could people pay that kind of money for just 1 tooth!!! I am a student and they don't offer any insurance!? So I heard lots of good things from Tufts and they just charge $500 for whole process. I just got back from the $57 new patient special (X-ray, cleaning and exam). The cleaning and exam went o.k. The only problem which really bugged me was the wasted time and nobody explaining to me what was going on the entire time. I was booked to be there 90 minutes. When I was brought in, one dental hygentist / assistant (don't know - she never introduced who she was) took me in for x-rays right away. Then there was waiting....a....lot....of....waiting. Nobody explaining what the next steps were. After laying back over 30 minutes, the same woman moved me to another room to have my cleaning. A second woman came in to do the cleaning (again, no introduction). She did a good job of that, but never identified who she was. When she finished, she showed me to the receptionist's desk to pay. I trust I got adequate attention by a competent dental professional at the end of the appointment. Funny thing about it, though, is I'm not sure I ever saw a dentist. Had my first cavities of my life filled today. Gentle Dental really is...Gentle! Dr. Rayev made sure I was comfortable the whole time. He often asked if I was doing ok. Wish I could have used that $320 (for two teeth) to buy clothes, BUT it's better than spending more $$$ later when that cavity filling turns into a root canal. I also have a phobia of dentures. So. The money was well spent. While the experience is not traumatic, I really don't ever want to go through a cavity filling again. I think I am going to have to start teaching myself how to drink tea without sugar. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Paul Rayev at Gentle Dental in Brighton for approximately 3 years now, and I must say that I am a big fan. I have never had difficulty getting an appointment at this office and I am always treated with courtesy and professionalism. I know the idea of a "franchise" dental office may seem like the "cheap" option, but I assure you that the staff here do not perform like some knock-off. I have had a both standard dental care (cleanings and fillings) as well as a crown done at this location. Dr. Rayev is the most efficient and courteous dentist I have ever been to. I had a crown done some years ago by my old dentist in the town where I grew up and it was a long and uncomfortable process and I've had nothing but trouble with the crown since. My second crown was done by Dr. Rayev - it was quick, painless and has not given me any problems since. I would highly recommend this facility. read more

First of all, these people are more interested in ripping-off people than dental care. I've been coming here for about 3 years now, since '08. I've been going 1/year for a cleaning. Basically, one of their dentists from Albania really pushed for me to getting X-rays. You see, he's getting a big commission when people like me incur X-rays. I got charged now for X-rays that I didn't need in '08 for $115! Moreover, the secretary there is very cunning: I was already there this January. My problems with them occured this March, and it involved that they wouldn't reimburse me ~$100 for service I had to pay out-of-pocket even though I am insured. The secretary, the only American there, called me up to say that I had an appointment there in 2 days or so (even though I was just there 2 months ago). I figured out why the secretary "inadvertently" called me up to "remind" me of my "appointment": By booking a faked appointment with me for a cleaning, and if I failed to show up, they would have fined me! They would have thus been able to say that "we don't owe you $100, since you cancelled your appointment with out calling us." Cheats! read more

Gentle Dental of Brighton saved me. During the weekend I began feeling an intense amount of pain from one of my molars. I phoned around to many dentists in the area and Gentle Dental was the only one that called back to check on me and ask if I needed any service. Even before I came in they already seemed so nice. I came in the next morning and with almost no wait the dentist was ready to see me although I had no insurance. The dentist and his assistants were all so kind yet professional. The dentist helped me out of pain and unfortunately I had to get a root canal (which is my fault anyways). We were able to schedule my next appointment the next day and everything has gone fine. I am a student at Boston College and this place is walking distance from campus which is so convenient. I will definitely be coming back for the next few years for cleanings and whatnot. read more

My mother and I have been referred to this office by a good acquaintance of ours about two years ago, and we have been coming back here ever since. I have seen Dr. Natalia Hoffman, Orthodontist, who was extremely professional, patient, very pleasant and attentive to detail doctor. Today she removed my braces and I am extremely happy with the result. I loved being a patient of Dr. Nelly and Dr. Raev. My mother agrees that Dr. Raev is naturally gifted doctor. What I appreciated the most is that none of the doctors I have seen at that office tried to "persuasively advise" to me or my mother to purchase products and/or undergo additional procedures beyond what was necessary, but instead they introduced an array of all possibilities and explained each one of them, and then I made my own decisions which fit my priorities and budget. It clearly demonstrates high level of professional ethics of all doctors. I visited the office every month, and I had an opportunity to get attended by virtually every nurse/dental assistant over two years, and every single one of them addressed me and other patients by name, with the smile and genuine positive attitude, which along with their kindness and professionalism made my experience positively different than at any other office I have visited before. What I really liked is that none of the assistance took a "shortcut" when it comes to instructions and proper procedure. They would make sure I understood everything and have no questions unanswered. Front desk attendants have been great and helpful answering every question I had at any time. They are extremely efficient and pleasant - thank you, Alie, Sarah and Nichole for your prompt reminders and attention! It is worth noting that the staff at this office is very diverse and speak every major language which I am sure is very helpful to many patients. The office in general is very bright, neat, there is always pleasant music playing. I have never had a problem to find an on-street parking. The cost of services at this office is not low at all, but certainly reasonable, and there are promotions and discounts available. My experience with this office has been very good so far and I would recommend it without reservations to others. I am traveling from Cape to see these doctors, and every hour I spent in traffic every time I drive to Brighton is totally worth it! read more

Dr. Myer is one of the best dentists I've ever been to. I went to her after a pretty horrific botched job on one of my teeth, which she was able to identify and correct. The office even helped me with documenting and disputing my insurance for reimbursement from my previous dentist's mistake. Since then, Dr. Myer has been great with explaining everything and getting a crown on a damaged tooth. I'll be back for years to come. read more

This dentist office was everything I could hope for and want in a tooth dedicated facility. All of the staff were accommodating and very polite. My teeth felt so so clean after and I had no cavities! Also they book cleaning appointments at the SAME TIME they open so I've been left waiting outside before for someone to unlock and turn the lights on. I made an appointment to go for a cleaning, when I got there they could not verify my insurance, the secretary Brianne kept asking me if I am sure that I have dental insurance! Really? How do you not know or sure that you have insurance?? Also, while I was sitting in the room, Brianne called me and left me a voicemail that I am late for my appointment and next time I should just reschedule!! Really??Anyways, after I got my cleaning on the next appointment, my tooth started hurting and they told me that I will need a root canal. Ok at this point I was like just pull it out, no they kept insisting that I should save the tooth, ok! I asked the secretary if she can tell me how much it would cost for a root canal, she quoted me $154, and explained that my insurance will cover 90% and I have to pay 10%. Ok cool sounds good to me not expensive. Made an appointment for a root canal, came in they started on my tooth, everything was fine. I was done and ready to pay my copayment of $154, the office manager gives me a price of $435 or something close to that!! I'm not paying that because that is not what I was quoted, so the office manager said "oh we didn't have an updated sheet of your coverage, but this is how much you owe now, wow!! I paid $154 and that was that, they are now billing me the rest of the amount, which I am not paying! This was at the end of last year 2011. So we are now in April 2012, I made an appointment to see another dentist. he takes an xray of the tooth that had a root canal and tells me your tooth never had a root canal done. At this point I didn't know what to say, so he shows me an xray of a tooth that had a root and my tooth, looks different. You can tell that nothing was done!!! I called Gentle Dental and explained to them what happened, so now I am waiting for a phone call from the dentist Dr.Rayev and the office manager Brenda. Everyone told me not to go to Gentle Dental, but I did anyways. Never again!!! Please listen when people tell you not go to Gentle Dental. read more

Great location in Brighton Center but that was really the only good part about this dentist. I needed a new dentist when I moved to Brighton and ended up here- just for a routine cleaning and checkup. The dentist looked at the fillings I had done at my old dentist (less than a year ago!) and said that they were done wrong and all needed to be replaced immediately. Needless to say I was in shock and very angry with my old dentist but figured I should give him the benefit of the doubt and get a second opinion before calling him up. Got a second opinion and sure enough... my fillings are fine! And it's been about a year since then and still nothing has gone wrong with those original fillings. Not sure what they were trying to do at Gentle Dental but that would have been a lot of unnecessary time, money, and pain (ouch :( ). I'm sure if you just need a cleaning they are fine but make sure to get a second opinion before getting dental work! read more

Last year I decided to change my dentist from the North End to Brighton. I went in twice-once in June and once in November-both times the service was HORRIBLE!!! The staff is allowed with their cellphones??? Is it a joke? The first hygienist - her phone wouldn't stop ringing and she even picked it up without even caring that I was there. So when I left, I requested a different hygienist for my second visit-same thing..her phone was going off the hook and she couldn't even tell if I had any cavities-she goes the doctor has to check that but there's no dentist on duty tonight. WHATTTT??? That being said I am going back to the North End even though it's much farther but at least people do their job and they are not rude to check text messages, FB etc. read more

I went to Gentle Dental last weekend with tooth pain. The doctor proclaimed me in need of a root canal. We got that procedure underway. I live in horror of the dentist, and I was not at my best during this appointment. The doctor, however, was patient and we got through the thing. When I was leaving the office, he gave me a Rx for Vicodin. Clearly he was anticipating that I would experience some pain. So, I asked him what "normal" pain should look like. He explained that I might experience some jaw and gum soreness, but that sharp, shooting nerve pains would absolutely not be normal. So, of course, the next day, (Sunday, naturally), I get up and experience exactly just the type of pain he said NOT to. I got the office number online, and the webpage explained that although the office would be closed on Sunday, an outgoing message with an emergency contact would be provided. I dialed the number and get this....there was no outgoing message other than the automated type with "Hello, please leave a message." For realz! I could not even get over it. I ended up calling Gentle Dental in Brookline and the doctor on call there contacted me immediately and talked me off the ledge. Jeepers, people. If you can't manage to get your outgoing message up and running, how on earth can I trust your root canal services? read more

I ended up going to a specialist and it looks like I have a bit of receeding gum line and just needed sensodyne toothpaste. The oral surgeon did not recomment a root canal. I am really glad that I did not take the advice given here, where they were ready to do a root canal on me within the week. If you're going for anything outside of a cleaning, I would not recommend this place. read more

Had dental cleansing here. I have to admit, it's much better than the other place I went (primary dental care in Watertown). The doctor gently cleaned my teeth. She didn't make my gum bleeding or discomfort. Highly recommend the dental cleansing here. read more

Went to gentle dental in Brighton do to my change in dental insurance coverage, and had a cleaning 7 months from my prior cleaning at my last dentist ( out of network on my new insurance). I knew previously that I had 1 tooth that might need a small filling , after my exam I was told I needed 4 cavities filled, and a crown / possible root canal done for 1 tooth. I was also really concerned that when i asked if i should send them my dental records from my previous dentist, they told me "we don't need those" the following week I scheduled a second opinion visit, that i payed out of pocket for, at my previous dentist, who is a specialist in Prosthodontics, I was advised that the teeth that needed filling were fine, except the 1 small cavity previously noted, and the crown and root canal were not needed. If you do go to Gentle Dental in Brighton, and the procedures / work they want to perform seem very out of the blue, especially if you do take care of your teeth and have been going to the dentist regularly, get a second opinion from another dentist. My cleaning did go really well, and they did a great job. Scheduling an appointment was difficult. getting my x-rays transferred to another dentist was also a pain. read more
