1. They told me I need 4 crowns and multiple fillings. They did 2 of the crowns before my insurer educated me that only one was necessary. My new dentist confirmed. 2. The hygienist was coughing into her sleeve during the procedure. The next day, I had the flu. 3. After getting a temporary crown, I had to plead with them to give me the permanent, because my insurer was in the process of rejecting one of the claims (see point 1). 4. They charged me $60 to transfer my X-ray, even though the ADA makes it clear that the cost should only be for printing and mailing copies (they emailed). When I confronted them, they said I signed away that right when I was filling out new patient paperwork. As if that makes it ethical. Stay away from this place. read more

They have one insurance partner but somehow are submitting claims several times more expensive than insurance will accept for a procedure. They overcharged me by $500 for a new patient appointment and two minor cavity fillings and were totally unresponsive when I called multiple times over several months about reimbursement after getting the receipt from my insurance stating what I owe. O NOT GO HERE. They lied to me about how many cavities I had while missing 2 of the 3 my son had. The one cavity that my son did have filled was so bad that his ortho refused to put his braces back on until it was fixed. She said it was one of the worst fillings she had ever seen. To top it off, they REFUSED to give us our dental records when we left. Pretty sure because they didn't take any film and are committing insurance fraud. Like everyone else that has left a review ... YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !!! For starters, the only reason why I chose this dental practice was because it was right down the street from my home. Convenient. Not only that, but Dr. Lin, who is the only Dr. listed to work at that practice online, accepted my insurance. Win win ! Or so I thought. The staff was great. And my appointment started right on time. Lin comes in and without even looking at my teeth is person says "yeah this is bad." Granted I expected it to be less than great . It's been years since my last visit. So he begins to pick at my teeth. At this point I feel no pain. It just felt like my teeth were getting a nice cleaning. I'm thinking "wow, this is gonna be a breeze!" He blurts out "yeah, the reason why you feel no pain ... you'll feel pain when you get a deep cleaning." Ok, hold on. So it's problem that I don't feel pain? So weird. SCARE TACTIC So now he goes on to "count cavities". He ends up counting 11 . ELEVEN !! ELEVEN ! Mind you, I've had zero pain ever . In life . Don't eat candy. Don't drink soda. And haven't had a cavity in 15 years! He then, after only about 4 minutes of cleaning, says "I'm going to refer you to a specialist." A specialist who was NOT covered by my insurance to do a job HE was capable and qualified to do . All to get more money out of me. I told him that I'm going to shop around due to my insurance. He cuts me off and says your not going to find anyone that takes your insurance. SCARE TACTIC. Long story short, I found another dentist in a flash! It's a bit of ways away, but hey . I'm not complaining . Come to find out I had 1 CAVITY which is one I was completely aware of. I left Dr. Lin's office with $1500 treatment plan. Update two years later -- dr Lin not only did unnecessary work on my teeth but also did a bad job on the bonding he did. I later on had a new dentist and another dentist for second opinion, they both recommended for me to take the bonding dr Lin did out and redo it because he was so careless and made the bonding too big that over hang my teeth and creating a gap to allow gems to reside and grow. It was another :$2000 out of pocket over two years to get it all taken care of. All my bonding were done in one appointment by dr Lin which other dentist would not because that's too much stress on my gum and etc. STAY AWAY! read more

This is the worst dentist I have ever been to. First, they advertised a free whitening kit for all new patients, but when I called to make an appointment they said the advertisement was outdated. However, when I went for my appointment, it was advertised on the sign outside the office. Such a scam. I went for a normal cleaning and they told me I had two minor cavities that needed to be filled. The cost estimate they gave me seemed way too high, because I knew my insurance covered much more than they said. I just got a sketchy vibe overall, so I went to another dentist's office. I had to pay $30 to get my x-rays sent to my new office, but when they say "x-rays" they actually mean a screenshot of the x-ray so it is not even useful to the new dentist. So, they charged $30 to email a screen shot of an image of an x-ray. When I went to the new dentist, they took their own x-rays (because the screen shot was useless) and found no cavities. Worst experience ever!!!!!! Don't go here if you don't want to be charged double!!! I don't know about other experiences looking at the previous reviews but mine was rather unfortunate. After first exam and X-Ray, I was offered a proposed plan which consisted of two treatments, $865 each. First treatment went well and I had a second one following week. 2 hours before second treatment I got a phone call from the Brighton Dental Associates office and lady said that I do had no money left on my insurance. After going back and forth with this lady and my insurance company I found out that the dental office actually charged me $1700 instead of $860. And that's only for the first treatment. I went to the dental office and spoke with the office manager Lisa. Her explanation was totally unacceptable and had no sense at all, because they charged me double as so they should and I actually had paperwork with the proposed plan that was saying $860. Lisa was pointing at other office employees making mistakes. But at the same time even Dr. Lin by himself was referring to that proposed plan, and that was an actual reason I made two appointments to use all my insurance money this year. What office manager had to say was only that was JUST a proposed plan and it had nothing to do with an actual charge. ??? So why did you give it to me and why we were talking about this at all??? And the most ridiculous thing in all this situation is that office manager would not accept the mistake the whole office made charging me double price. She was only saying that was the way they always do to all patients and insurance decides what to cover. Which was quite a non sense at all because I saw the amount of money the claimed to the insurance company which was 200 percent different from the quote I got originally. Decided to get a second opinion and was told that I have only one cavity. Well I definitely should have checked the reviews before doing business with these guys. I went for a simple annual check-up and ended up getting a "highly recommended" referral to a specialist to have my teeth deep cleaned (of course requiring extra $$$). I reluctantly took the appointment because I didn't want to risk my health (scare tactics were definitely used). The specialist looked at my teeth and said "oh - this isn't that bad" immediately on looking at my teeth. Seriously?? Fast forward to present day. I've moved and am working with another dentist (much better!!) to get my records transferred. Turns out Brighton Dental charges a fee to transfer my personal records, including X-rays! My new dentist confirmed that this isn't common practice. I'm going to use my insurance to re-do all my exams since it's cheaper for me and really don't want to give Brighton Dental any more of my money. Watch out!! read more

I could not be more displeased with this business. I first saw Dr. Zina (spelling?) a year ago, and she replaced the bonding on my front top tooth. She made my normal white tooth into a small brownish baby tooth that's very different than all of my other teeth. Since her first attempt had broken and I was on my third appointment for the same issue, I decided to deal with it. I came back today about a year later and saw Dr. Lin. He told me that I need a few fillings and adult braces. In fact he said that the brown baby tooth is my fault due to grinding my teeth, and that the only way to fix the issue is to go to an orthodontist. When I went to make my next appointment to fill a cavity, the woman working the front desk demands a $50 payment in advance (cash or credit only) before I am allowed to make an appointment. Really? Then she gave me the referral card to an orthodontist in Waltham. I asked for an orthodontist in Allston/Brighton or even Boston, and the genius woman actually told me that there are no orthodontists within the city of Boston. Really?!? She must have an IQ of 160. I asked for a manager's name and email so that I may follow up as both the prepayment for services not rendered and their referral to the Waltham orthodontist really bothered me, and she refused to give me the manager's last name or email address. This is for "privacy", she said. I run an office for a living, and if someone has a complaint I take it seriously. If I ever refused to give someone my email address or last name I should not be in my position. I am going to call my insurance company tomorrow to ensure that they're not charging for procedures that I am not having done. In fact I plan on paying $30 for X-rays and the cost of a new appointment with another dentist rather than pay them in advance. I would seek an appointment elsewhere. The half hour of crappy news on a flat screen is not worth it. read more

Avoid. I had been going here for about 2 years, and never had a bad experience with my old dentist at this place. 2 weeks ago however, I had a routine checkup with Dr. Lin instead of the dentist I had been seeing previously. During the cleaning, he was extremely rough while scraping away plaque, inducing heavy bleeding. Afterwards, he told me that this was a sign that I needed to get special deep cleaning done for an extra fee. Skeptical about this, I scheduled an appointment as he suggested but didn't select a date. I changed my mind about a day later and called to cancel, but they told me that I would be charged a $50 cancellation fee, even though the date hadn't been set and it was only 24 hours after scheduling. I basically went through a 2 week process of repeated calls and visits to the office to try to get a refund on this $50 fee, during which the office was extremely misleading and callous. I finally was able to get a refund after they were unable to show evidence that they ever made me aware of their so called cancellation "policy". Terrible customer service. Bad business practices. Waste of time. Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

I've been going to Dr. Lin for six months and have had four visits in that time. I think this place is fantastic and have always been pleased with everyone there every time I've been. I've had two cleanings and have had to get two mouth guards fitted (my dog chewed the first one). It seems like the staff has grown in the six months I've been there, with Dr. Lin and his assistant, Belen, "anchoring" the team - they were the only people I worked with during my first two visits. In the two most recent visits I've encountered a few more assistants/hygienists and everyone has been fantastic. I'm always in and out promptly, and yet the team makes you feel welcomed and well-taken care of. They treat patients well and clearly put patient care/experience first. The office is conveniently located in Brighton Center, and street parking is usually pretty easy to find. I'm a big fan of Dr. Lin's extended hours - they're not every night, but he has them frequently enough that it's easy to schedule appointments without having to take any time off from work. Regarding technology, as the other reviewer says, there are big flat-screen TVs in every room so you can have some entertainment while you wait, or see a photo of the cavity in your tooth when the news is broken that you have to get a filling. In all, I highly recommend Dr. Lin and his team. Brighton Dental Associates has a perfect combination of patient care/service and technology when you want it. read more

I went to Dr. Lin for the first time in early October. He told me I had 4 cavities. I found this hard to believe given that I've never had any issues with my teeth. I went to get a second opinion and found out I only had 1 cavity. This place should absolutely be sued for malpractice. They take advantage of the young adults living in the Brighton area and think they can get away with it. They also overcharge for their services. I'll start off by saying that I generally enjoyed my visits to see Dr. Lin and his staff (particularly Bella who was always friendly too). They treated me well and I felt like Dr. Lin really cared about my teeth and my personal life. Which is probably why it was so disappointing on how I was treated during my last visit before I moved out of Boston/MA. During my final cleaning, Dr. Lin was pretty rough on the plaque cleaning around my permanent retainer. A few weeks later, I realized the bonding broke during the cleaning and my bottom front teeth became crooked which took a lot of time/money worth of orthodontics to achieve. When I explained this to Dr. Lin, he became very defensive and essentially embarrassed me in front of his staff when he specifically told me that he did not break the bonding, that my teeth were perfectly straight, and that actually nothing was wrong with the retainer itself and that I worry too much. But since I was very sure about it, their team challenged me to get a second opinion from the orthodontist (who he referred me to originally) and report back. So I did visit my orthodontist and upon 3 min of arrival, the orthodontic staff and the doctor confirmed that 2 of my bondings had been damaged and that one of my bottom teeth had shifted significantly. After trying to straighten it with uncomfortable metal buttons and rubberbands they were unable to really fix the teeth and had to shave down part of my bottom tooth and now I have an excessive amount of bonding holding everything together. When I tried following up with Brighton Dental (as they asked me to) and to discuss everything that happened, the staff kept pushing off when I can speak with Dr. Lin and has essentially cut me off from communications very unprofessionally when they used to nag me all the time with appointment reminders. It's just really unfortunate because I used to think they genuinely cared but it seems like it was only as long as my insurance was paying them. Sadly, I do not recommend Brighton Dental and really wished I could. To add one last comment from my experience, one of their front desk staff members used my patient information to contact my personal number during non-office hours in an inappropriate manner. I've taken for granted that dental offices have your best interest in mind all my life. I'm willing to concede that this office may be ultra concerned about their clients' teeth, which is why they recommended ELEVEN FILLINGS for me after one consult. That, and within two months or I might need ROOT CANALS. Seriously- he said root canal like 5x in our consult. Everyone there was very nice, but something seemed off. This was confirmed by my 2nd opinion (after doing a little online research, which I should've done in the first place). The dentist there recommended ZERO fillings at this time and prescribed a fluoride toothpaste & will see me in 6 months. Also, the new doc was suspicious of a $30 fee to release my X-rays...better than the $1,300 I would've paid out of pocket for unnecessary intervention. I get it- this place's bread & butter is probably fillings & root canals - they make bank off the people who unfortunately don't know better. And they nickel & dime those like me, who got suckered in but had the sense to get a 2nd opinion... Be careful. I had some dental work I have been putting off because I was nervous. the doctor here made me feel right at home. The office is nice and modern, updated with things to help you relax and take your mind off the treatment. I also had an introductory special because I do not have very good dental insurance and I have no coverage for xrays. I noticed someone here was upset over other recommendations the dentist suggested along with the special and wanted to charge extra for it. I am sure each professional has his set of recommendations and to infer this negativity is rude and inappropriate. I had no issues with recommendations or billing. I understand the special only covers the basic things and appreciated the fact that the dentist pointed out further work that needed to be done in order to avoid pain/ problems later that could result in a root canal or worse. I don't know if that is a very good reason to slam this nice dental professional because you don't understand. I was happy to pay to avoid these problems down the road. Ya'll need to cut some slack. I have been here two times already and both times had a very good experience. I will go back and I will send my friends and my kids. That says a lot. read more

I'm honestly a bit shocked reading these reviews...I had a great experience here. Dr. Lin was wonderful, as were all of the assistants. I did have 4 cavities but it had been years since I'd been to a dentist and my teeth are horrible so that's not unusual, as well as one cracked filling. Dr. Lin took the time to show me some pretty cool up-close photos of my teeth, including the cracked filling. It was an old silver filling, which he explained are brittle and prone to cracking and even rusting, yuch! He did recommend that we do all the work in one sitting (about an hour and a half, yes) but I was completely on board with that because I don't have the time or patience to keep coming back for multiple appointments. He numbed the ever-loving life out of my mouth and I didn't feel a thing. I sat there happy as a numb little clam while Dr. Lin explained what he was doing as he did it. So far so good! My new white fillings look wonderful (aka you can't see them at all) and despite having so many fillings done at once, I experienced very little pain or sensitivity following the appointment and was back to normal within a couple days. Totally different from an experience with a different dentist when I had pain for weeks after the filling was done. The girls at the front desk are very sweet, and extremely helpful. I dropped about $400, but that was for the 5 fillings *and* a brand new mouth guard for teeth-grinding. My last mouth guard from my previous dentist? $428! That's not including any fillings at all! But, I have really good insurance, so there's that. read more

THIS PLACE IS A HORROR SHOW! STEER CLEAR! I originally went to Brighton Dental Associates because they were extremely close to my house but actually accepted my insurance! My first time there, like EVERY other (credible) review, they told me I had something obscene like 10 fillings???? I was extremely scared but the female "dentist" I had started filling them right away & was SO incredibly rough, I was SHOCKED! She ended up doing MUCH more damage than good & I was in agonizing pain after the first initial fillings. (I identically equated the pain,swelling & jaw/gum/tooth soreness with symptoms from oral surgery I had when I was younger to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth surgically removed!) I should have known or the red flags should have gone up when I was left in bed in intense pain the rest of the day after her work. Specifically, She was so rough, she YANKED a tooth guard off of a tooth she was working on & the tooth adjacent to it cracked. I mentioned it & she said "it's nothing, I don't see anything!" (even though i could run my tongue over the tooth & feel the sharp break). I left, went home & with in 24 hours after leaving, an enormous chunk of my tooth fell out! I immediately called & told them they needed to repair it but when I went back to the office & they tried charging me an obscene amount of money AND had stopped taking my insurance carrier so expected cash! That was only a few weeks ago & tonight that tooth just cracked down the middle, in half! This place REAKS of malpractice & a lawsuit! WHY hasn't anyone brought them up on charges yet? I'd sign on & join in a second over my tooth! By the way, I'm only 32 years old so it's not like my teeth are just falling out! This is the worst things that's EVER happened to my teeth to date & it's frightening! PLEASE, someone take action against this place! I'm devastated now thinking I might lose this tooth now BUT not only that,what's worse, not having my wits about me more at the time, feeling like I got fooled! When looking at my X-rays of my teeth in the chair in office, I STARED & got up out of the chair to get closer because my eyes aren't great but besides the one large cavity I KNOW I have that's older, I couldn't actually see any new MASS QUANTITIES of cavities! I went here with a toothache for the $99 new patient "Comprehensive oral exam, all necessary x-rays, cleaning and cosmetic consultation." Dr. Lin looked at the X-rays for a few minutes and under the premise that two of my teeth would in all likelihood need posts and crown lengthening to support crowns, he recommended a treatment plan starting with two extractions (one on a tooth which didn't hurt), socket preservations and two implants totaling over $11,000 before sending me off with a prescription for Tylenol No. 3 and antibiotics. What made me uneasy was when he prefaced his medical opinion with the phrase, "I'm going to be honest with you." Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath for that, and generally the only time I hear that line is when someone is about to tell me something that is less than the whole truth. So I decided to take my problem to Tufts School of Dental Medicine for a second opinion. I asked Brighton Dental Associates for a copy of my X-rays and I was informed by the office that I would have to pay them an additional fee and that it would take a week before I could pick up the files on a CD. That's a long time to wait when you have a tooth infection. According to my girlfriend who works in medical billing, charging patients for a copy of medical records is illegal in Massachusetts. I'm not a lawyer so I'll set that aside for the purpose of this review, but when you pay up front for a visit that is advertised as including X-rays there shouldn't be a hidden cost to obtain a copy. If you do have to pay, it shouldn't take that long to copy a few files in the midst of a frigging dental emergency. Not only did they want to extract my teeth, but they wanted to extract more money from my bank account and make it difficult to take my business elsewhere? Give me a break. Dr. Lin's assumptions about my teeth were eventually proven incorrect at Tufts. The cleaning I received at Tufts was more thorough, the exam included an oral cancer screening, and the X-Rays included a panoramic. All for less than $99. Not only did I receive a second opinion, but I received third, fourth and fifth opinions from a variety of experts at the school. With each visit at Tufts my prognosis improved and the amazing staff at Tufts had me know that in my case Dr. Lin's recommendation to extract was questionable without first performing caries control in order to determine the true extent of the tooth decay. In other words X-rays only tell part of the story and you need to drill out the decay before you really know the deal. At Tufts the option of implants was recommended only as a last resort for various reasons including my age (only 34), the actual state of my teeth and possible complications with the procedure which Dr. Lin did not bring up. At Tufts I received two root canals and two crowns with no posts or crown lengthening necessary, all for a mere fraction of the initial quote from Brighton Dental Associates. Indeed that is something to smile about. Brighton Dental Associates specializes in cosmetic dentistry, and that's exactly what they tried to get me to buy. They might even be really good at it. Most of the reviews on here are about how nice the staff was and how they have TVs in the rooms, I won't dispute those two points. But if you have serious cavities and/or infection and want to try to save your teeth and save your money, look no further than a reputable school like Tufts for truly "comprehensive" treatment before spending a cent at this business. read more

I went to Brighton Dental Associates because they take MassHealth and are very conveniently located for me, however, I would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend anyone I know to go there. While the office was very clean, and the equipment seemed state of the art, the care I got was very poor. I saw Dr. Lennox Lin. His personality was a bit gruff, and his bedside manner was very poor in the delivery of my "diagnosis." I explained to Dr. Lin that I'd been a regular (every 6-7mo. like clockwork) at my former dentist and had never seen anyone else, but had missed an appt since moving to Boston last fall (13-14mo lapse total). After the friendly assistant took my XRays, Dr. Lin came in, poked around in my mouth for a very short amount of time, and said "Well, I'm not going to lie- this is a pretty serious situation." He then went on to tell me that he had found 13 cavities that he would need to fill. I explained that, though I have an expensive electric toothbrush and brush/floss/mouthwash religiously, I often have 1 or 2 cavities every couple of visits because of weak enamel, soft teeth (per my normal dentist). I told him I was VERY surprised and concerned to hear this report, as it was SO dissimilar from anything I had ever heard from my dentist, and, though I had begun grad school (more coffee), my lifestyle/ diet had not significantly changed. He simply said, "Well- I am your dentist, and this is what I see." I was also told that I should make the appt a soon as possible, as some of the cavities had the potential to grow quickly (toward needing crowns/ root canals, which I have never had). Though MassHealth would have covered me to get all of these fillings (which he wanted to complete in one hellacious 1.5-hr appt), I felt inexplicably uncomfortable with the diagnosis, and decided to pay out-of-pocket to get my XRays transferred to another dentist for a 2nd opinion 1 week later. ( I saw Dr. Nasrin Sadeghi @ Gentle Dental in Brighton, with whom I had a WONDERFUL experience.) The new dentist said that she found 5 cavities that needed fillings (still not excellent, but much less shocking), and saw a few teeth that she would "want to monitor" for 6mo. I told her about my dental report from Dr. Lin and she was very surprised at the "aggressive" treatment plan he outlined, but said that every dentist had different methods, and that several of the "cavities" he had found were so shallow, she wouldn't fill them (yet). She kept a very professional poker face throughout this, but was then visibly disturbed at the idea that he wanted to complete all 13 fillings in 1 visit, and emphatically said that she would NEVER recommend ANY patient get that many fillings all at 1 time, especially with a new dr. I was extraordinarily impressed with Dr. Sadeghi, but she unfortunately doesn't take my insurance. She was very understanding that I wouldn't be able to afford further care with her, but gave me numerous suggestions of other MassHealth dentists from which she recommended I get my care, instead of Dr. Lin. read more

This was the first dentist I went to since graduating college. I just picked a random one. My first time going I had 5 cavities, my second time 3 and my third time I had 2. Prior to visiting here I had had one cavity in my entire life. I had always kind of thought in the back of my mind that he may have been ripping me off but I was too naive/lazy to really follow up on it or look for other opinions elsewhere. I had the same experience everyone else listed. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE WARNINGS AND DO NOT COME HERE. The first time I came in for a cleaning, Dr Lin told me I had a minor chip in one of my tooth and said he needed to fill it so it doesn't get worse. I didn't know any better so I listened to him and let him do it. The year after, I came in for a simple cleaning and he was very rough. My gums started bleeding heavily, and (just like the person below said) Dr. Lin said I needed to get another deep cleaning that required me to pay an additional $200 because my insurance didn't cover it. I decided not to do it and went for a second opinion. To make matters worse, recently, the filling of "chip tooth" came out and the hole became bigger. I have NEVER had a single cavity or any type of gum disease in my life. I have never had any sort of dental problems in the past and have had to go through a whole process with another dentist to fix the problems Dr. Lin caused. This office is all about making money! First the good part: Dr. Lin did a good job cleaning my teeth, and his assistant did an OK job on the x-rays. The location is convenient and they have digital x-ray equipment. I liked being able to see my x-rays up on the screen (after I got my glasses back on.) However, I am not satisfied with the care I received. It had been a long time since my last cleaning, so I had quite a bit of plaque and tartar buildup. Without actually measuring my gums, or pointing to any evidence of bone loss from my x-rays, Dr. Lin said I needed deep root scaling and planing (to the tune of over $500). I scheduled the first session of that, then I got to thinking that (a) I wanted a second opinion from a periodontist and (b) I'd want a periodontist to do that if he or she deemed it necessary. Four days after my appointment with Dr. Lin I saw a periodontist who said I don't need the additional treatment. He also said they would typically wait two or three weeks after cleaning before deciding whether or not to do that treatment, since tartar buildup can cause inflammation and bleeding gums that is reversible by cleaning alone. I sent Brighton Dental Associates a message online saying I wanted to cancel the appointment, get back my $100 deposit, and have my x-rays sent to another dental office. They didn't respond. I sent another message requesting confirmation of receipt of the first one, and got no response to that either. Today I went in personally to take care of everything. They made me sign a release and charged me $30 to transfer my x-rays. I won't be going back. read more

Have been going every 6 months since 2011 and have no new cavities since. Had to replace 1 filling that was probably 15+ years old and that went well as well. Staff recognizes me and even remembers things we talked about previously even though I only see them every 6 months. Very welcoming/hospitable, always a good experience. read more

Save yourself and do not go here. You have to pay for services before you actually receive the service (i.e. you're told you need cavities filled and make the appointment to fill the cavities and pay for the fillings at the same time). To do this, they estimate what insurance will pay. What that means is you always end up paying more then you should and chase them for the money back after you see the Explanation of Benefits from your insurance company. Also, how much a shock it can be when you go in for a cleaning and are forced to pay over $600. I've always been concerned with what Dr. Lin finds for cavities as I've never gone for a cleaning at Brighton Dental Associates and NOT had a cavity. Previous to going here, I had a cavity once every few years so it was very concerning to me. Unfortunately for myself, I didn't get a second opinion and just went with what he said was cavities. After the experience I had recently, I will not make that mistake again. He brought in a worker that he was teaching while he was filling my cavity without asking me. He was in the middle and said "come on in!" and started explaining to the worker what he was doing. Normally I'd be okay with this because how else are you supposed to learn? But, I wasn't asked if this was okay. I should mention that I'm already petrified of things having to do with the dentist and my teeth. As he's explaining to the worker what he's doing he's talking about how you always need suction because there will be a lot of blood, drill this much but not anymore because you'll hit the nerve, make sure you pack it this way so no bacteria gets underneath otherwise it'll need a root canal or to be pulled, etc. I was appalled he'd be discussing this in front of me with all these bad scenarios. At one point during filling my cavity, he asked if I was in pain. I said a little but that it was okay. He told me that if it hurts too much, to raise my hand and he'll give me more novocaine. About 30 seconds after he said that he must've hit a nerve because it hurt so bad I jerked back in my seat and my eyes felt like they were going to pop out. I raised my hand waving at him, I couldn't stand the pain any longer and thought I was going to pass out. He says oh we're almost done, and keeps drilling. For another 2 minutes with me waving my hand like crazy. Finally that is done and he's filling the cavity and I'm no longer in pain but I can still hear him telling the worker these horrible things that can happen. A 1.5 hour appointment was scheduled and after 45 minutes he sent me on my way and said I need to come back for another session. Not only do I not want to come back from the excruciating pain Dr. Lin caused me and the nightmares I'm going to have from the situations he was explaining to the worker, but now I need to take MORE time off from work to schedule another appointment. I took 1.5 hours out of my life to get my teeth taken care of; they should use that full time and not expect me to drop more time for them. Also was reading the reviews about the "free" whitening for new patients and I was wondering why I never got this treatment when I first started coming here. My mistake for not reading the Yelp reviews before I became a patient here but now I know not to come back. read more

I wish I had read yelp reviews before making an appointment at Brighton Dental Associate. From start to finish, I had a very negative experience here. The most concerning issue is that Dr. Lim told me that I had 7 cavities that should all be filled, for a grand total of over $1500 (about half covered by my insurance). I just got back from an appointment at my previous dentist (who is about an hour away, which is why I was looking for a new dentist) who said I had 1 small cavity. I feel strongly that Dr. Lim was attempting to manipulate me into paying for unnecessary and expensive procedures. I was also charged a $30 fee to email x-rays to my other dentist, with no promise that it would arrive by the time I had my appointment. They said it typically takes 3-5 days. That being said, they did get it over to my dentist in 24 hours, for which I was grateful. Overall, very untrustworthy business. I am so thankful I was able to get a second opinion. read more

This place is the best! The dentists are super professional and they really care about the patient's well being. When you first enter, they are really sweet and welcoming. The wait time is not long at all. When we go through procedures they make sure you are comfortable and understand what is going on. I hate visiting the dentist, but this place made it feel safe and comfortable. I felt like I could trust them. read more

I will say that I never had an issue with the actual dental work. I had bi-annual cleanings and a filling with Dr. Vina was always gentle, thorough and kind. The hygienists while also friendly, were nervous, inexperienced and seemed straight out of school. My gums can attest to this. So while the dentistry was decent - it's the business side of things that compelled me to write this review. Put plainly, it is insulting the way Brighton Dental Associates treats their patients. And I would say borderline unethical too. There is probably still a sign wall papering the front window claiming to offer "free teeth whitening for life". You will receive a whitening pack at your first appointment and then excuses every other time. Over the course of two years I heard a rainbow of reasons they couldn't own up to the promise. The most insulting being, "The promotion has expired" to which I responded, "then why is the sign still up?". "We're having it taken down next week". I still lived in Brighton at the time, and can tell you that it was still up for next six months following that conversation. I just felt completely scammed by Brighton Dental and saw that trickle into every business interaction. Strange partial pre-payments (are they afraid I'm going to walk out mid-filling?), quotes for procedures and then price jumps for reasons they can't explain. When I requested to speak with a manager they wouldn't provide me with any contact information and refused to let me speak to dentist who owns the practice. I felt like I was at a sketchy used car lot instead of a dentists office. An ok cleaning is not worth the blatant disrespect and swindling from the administrative staff. Now that Dr. Vina left the practice (which I might add, I was never informed of) I'm off to find a new dentist that treats their patients with honesty and respect. read more

i'd been a patient of Dr. Moon's, whom I liked very much, for 2-3 years. She is/was gentle, thorough and kind; I trusted her implicitly- absolutely not in it for the money even tho she is a partner. We discussed the need for a lot of work (I'd heard it before elsewhere) and my insurance did not cover the big ticket items - or so the staff had told me. It's the office staff that had been very troublesome for me. From scheduling to checking insurance to followup I had unending problems with contradictions or no calls. They also refused to allow me, a good customer, to speak to the dentist. I needed a confirmation directly from Dr. Moon regarding the financial arrangements re. upcoming work and if the "estimated" amount was the same as it had been 3 months earlier. I told the staff my dad was going to write a check for the full $5500 amount but needed a firm dollar amount- he's not going to send me a blank check. First they refused to take a message from me to Dr. Moon, they also refused to put me thru to her once she was freed up. In fact, they will never allow patients to speak directly to the dentist - Why ? Because they are busy and want to leave when they are finished. Excuse me ? I decided to proceed w/my appts. and would talk to Dr. Moon @ my first appt. about costs. The very next thing I'm "instructed" is that they need 50% up front before they will make a single appointment. I felt like a criminal. In the meantime, I'm going back and forth with my father who's on hold on the other line- ot the most patient man on earth. The way I was treated by the staff, yet again, was insulting and humiliating. My dad asked me if i'd angered someone, had I not paid a bill or something , why else would I be treated so poorly ? Humiliated on both ends. After 35 minutes of being spoken to like an idiot who didn't understand English repeatedly put on hold while the receptionist talked to ...whomever, eventually, now, 45 minutes into it on a Friday afternoon, I was put thru to the "office manager" . Finally. She asked me to repeat the entire situation from the beginning- with my Dad still on hold- and I lost it. In a condescending tone, I was advised to "Call back once you have calm down". That advice did not calm me down. My Dad got Sick 3 weeks later, he's fine now but we never discussed the dental work again, check was never mailed and I supposed I never calmed down back in 9/2015. Today, I said "Perhaps things have changed, I'll give them a call" which I did only to get an answering machine about 6 times (even though I know they're staffed today when I'd walked byw/my dog earlier). God has a sense of humor- listen to your gut. read more

I went to this dentist office and one of the dentists (I think it was Dr. Lin) told me I had 8 cavities which needed to be filled immediately. After getting a quote from them that was much too high, I instead went home to Long Island to get my cavities filled. When I got to the dentist in Long Island, however, he told me that I in fact had ZERO cavities, and that this dentist was probably trying to just drum up business. The same thing happened to my friend, whom they told had 20 cavities. 20!! In her case unfortunately, she was gullible and ended up believing them. After reading other reviews on Yelp I believe they've done this same scam to many other people. They need to be shut down!! read more

Dr. Lin has been my dentist for the past 4 years. He is very nice, professional, helpful, and honest. All his staffs are also very friendly. Dr. Lin is probably one of the best dentists I have seen. For instance, I didn't brush and floss my teeth very well, there were a lot of plaques built up on my teeth. Due to the gum inflammation caused by bacteria, I used to bleed quite a bit when Dr. Lin cleaned my teeth. Dr. Lin then recommended me an electric toothbrush and showed me how to use it (as I tended to press it too hard). I started following his instruction on how to properly brush my teeth. Thanks to Dr. Lin, my plaques built up have significantly decreased and my gum does NOT bleed during cleaning anymore! One times he told me that I had eight cavities. Initially, I was skeptical, but Dr. Lin showed photos and/or x-ray of my teeth to patiently explain where the cavities were and how I could prevent having more cavities. :))) read more

If I could give this place less than 1 star I 100% would. I went here a couple of years ago to get a chipped tooth fixed. I asked them if they were in network to accept my insurance coverage and they assured me that they were so I was relieved. The place was nice and clean and seemed just fine, even had flat screen TVs in the exam rooms which was new for me. THEN, I met Dr. Lin. Never in my life have I been treated with so much disrespect, condescension, and judgement as when he looked at my teeth and CONTINUALLY commented on how "bad" they were and how they were "some of the worst he has seen." Meanwhile, I have no gaps, no discoloration, and no visible signs of damage. I just needed some cavities filled in the BACK of my teeth. Nevertheless, he proceeded to take a FULL mouth xray - I asked him if it was covered and he said yes, but of course it was NOT. After this, he had his assistant "clean" my teeth - and by this I mean pass a mechanical toothbrush over my teeth lightly ONCE and have me rinse my mouth. He then had the audacity to give me a 4 page sheet on my "treatment plan" that detailed over $3,000 in required dental treatment. I left there in tears hysterical thinking my teeth were going to fall out or something. My insurance notified me of the claims and I said absolutely in no way was I paying for any of the services they DID NOT RENDER. This place is 100% a scam and I should have read the yelp reviews back in the day. PLEASE do not go here - save yourself the trouble. They are insurance sharks and will tell you anything to get paid. I went to Brighton Dental Associates two times when I lived in Brighton. Now that I have moved and my current dentist is requesting my X-rays, Brighton Dental Associates will not release my records unless I pay them $30. If I was aware of this policy prior to reading the agreement form at my first visit I would have cancelled and found another dentist in the area. It takes 5 seconds to attach an X-ray image to an email, definitely not worth $30 of work. On principle, I refuse to pay them this fee. I will never recommend any of my friends in the Brighton area to Brighton Dental Associates. read more

I moved to Boston a few years ago to attend college, and while taking classes in the area, I scheduled an appointment at Brighton Dental Associates for a check up and to consult with the orthodontist on a dental crown procedure I needed. When I first came in for my appointment, I was naturally cautious, it was my first time at this location but Dr. Lin and his team, made sure my experience was pleasant and comfortable. When I came in for my appointment, I did not wait long and I was called in right away. A distinction I noted at Brighton Dental Associates was how digitally up to date this clinic is. Their reliability on modern technology merits commendation; not only was my appointment confirmed via a phone call, I also received text message alerts and email updates. I needed a dental crown, and after my first appointment, the turn around time was also really fast, my crown had come in after only two weeks and they called me right away and were very accommodating in scheduling me an appointment. I couldn't have been happier with the smooth procedure and my crown fit perfectly. At the end of my procedure, I was anxious about the bill but luckily Dr. Lin has a very flexible repayment plan that was convenient for me as a college student, and I was able to pay off the whole procedure in a few small payments. Just like most people I also hated visiting the dentist for some childhood phobia but the staff at Brighton Dental Associates along with Dr. Lin provided me with the assurance I needed to proceed with confidence. I recommend this family-friend clinic that has a welcoming and friendly staff, to anyone seeking an orthodontist for cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, or just a regular check up! read more
