A Midwest mom and pop joint, one of the finest I've set foot in. The folks working in the store were friendly and welcoming. After getting our drinks, we ordered entrees consisting of a double cheeseburger and Cajun cheese fries, as well as a chicken sandwich (add cheese) and mozzarella sticks with, you guessed it, another side of cheese. Both sandwiches were fantastic and fresh, hot off the grill. The burger I had was perfectly done, with a slim char on the outside. The chicken was very clean and juicy. Both were mouth watering. The Cajun fries were cooked just as I like them: crispy but not burnt. The cheese had some spice to it but not an overwhelming amount to the point it was "hot". I did taste a mozzarella stick and the absence of grease and the abundance of crispy, well seasoned breading was fantastic. Top notch all the way around. The wait for the food was surprisingly very short considering everything is made fresh. We felt as if it was just another day eating in the kitchen at grandmas, which I miss a lot these days. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to slow down and take a step back in time and enjoy a meal. In my opinion places like this get overlooked and shouldn't. This BBQ joint does not show up in any of them so I found No. 423 by Google. First of all, this was a pleasant surprise because my buddy and I didn't have high hopes for it. The pulled pork was ok and it was mixed with sauce and the onion straws were tasty. Nothing special though. I picked a combo plate with brisket and ribs and chose baked potato salad and cornbread salad. They were out of sweet potato casserole which I picked over cornbread salad. They upcharged for all of this though. They had a choices but brisket and ribs cost more and sides besides beans, slaw, and American potato salad cost more. The brisket was better than the ribs. I was surprised how good the brisket actually was. They got it down with the tenderness and good mix of fat. The ribs were big, meaty and wet but not as good as the brisket. They did give a good size portion for meat but the sides had small portions. I think I ate both sides in four bites. The most impressive thing about No. 423 though were their homemade sauces. Their homemade ranch was zesty. There was a creamy horseradish. The BBQ was a sweet ketchup base and then there was a housemade hot sauce. The hot sauce was a thicker Crystal and I liked mixing it with the BBQ sauce. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. Overall, a pretty good place to eat in Petersburg. The sauces are housemade and terrific. The brisket is better than average and the ribs are pretty good. The two things I hate though are so many things having upcharges on a combo plate and the portions of the sides being small. I would eat here again though.

However a 5 star review encouraged us to give it a try. I am beyond thrilled that we did! Everyone orders their food at the register in the small market. They do a tremendous amount of take out business. The phone was ringing off the hook for take out orders. We ordered a few items to see what all of the fuss is about. They have a lot of pictures on the wall of the sushi they serve. We decided on a volcano roll. It was made to order and it was delicious. We ordered 6 pork dumplings. They were light and crispy on the outside and the pork on the inside was very flavorful. As one of the entrees we chose Pancit. We learned later that it is there #1 item ordered. It is a nice portion of rice noodles, cabbage, carrots, green beans, in a very light sauce. You can choose Chicken or shrimp. We chose chicken. It is in small pieces and fits perfectly with the julienned veggies and the thin rice noodles. We also ordered the special of the day which was Marinated Beef. It came in a bowl with a dark beef broth and onions. There was a side office to go with it. The beef felt like it was melting in your mouth. Absolutely delicious! We poured some of the rice into the bowl to soak up some of the broth. You didn't want to miss a drop. Here we thought we had ordered a lot of food and would have leftovers but we cleaned every plate. It was that good. I wish I lived closer because I would eat here a lot. Yum!
