They all did very good installations so not one iota of dissatisfaction. Recently, needed a new roof so the existing panels had to come down and go back up. Laulima Solar worked in conjunction with the roofer to start reinstalling our PV while the roof was still being worked on! We also had them replace the failing solar hot water heater and panels at the same time. We named Laulima as the solar contractor in charge of our Enphase account at the beginning of this process and they reviewed our system and offered recommendations. We wanted some upgrades and Camilo made recommendations as to upgrade and "placement" of those panels. There was also after install review and a request for any changes we might want. We've had Solar Hot Water since we moved in 25 years ago. PV started in 2008. Except for Sunny Solutions hot water (retired-no longer in business), we've not had this level of service - even when requested. As wife and I get on in years, I don't want to have the "hands on" followup that I had to do in the past. We would have never stumbled on Laulima except for our roofer's recommendation and it's turned out to be a "best" recommendation.

Ikaika came out quickly and gave me options for getting more time out of my old heater, rather than convince me to pay so much more for a replacement. I really appreciated having the choice, because you expect to hear that cha-ching that goes with a pricier job. Anyway, it was my decision to replace it, so Ikaika gave me a reasonable quote and was ready to start soon. Ikaika discussed the whole process with us and answered all of our questions. I had a couple of requests and he was able to accommodate. He showed up on time every day, fully prepared to tackle the job. He removed the old tank and installed the new 120 gallon tank (it's a big house) really quickly. It has all the bells & whistles. Our new rooftop panels were sized to meet the needs of our 120 gallon tank, taking into consideration the amount of sunshine we have in Kihei. Along with the manufacturer warranties for the system, Ikaika also gave us his own 2 year warranty for his work. That includes free annual checkups and tank flushes. We got to know Ikaika Ho'opi'i pretty well. He is a very friendly gentleman who likes to talk story. Ikaika is a family man and a big asset to the community. Back in September 2023 reported issue of Tesla Powerwall+ not working correctly…read more The issue is during daylight hours the battery will switch over to standby mode where we do not have use of energy until dark (about 6pm) For instance if we charge car or use dryer during the day solar energy may only provide 50% of energy needed it should pull remaining energy needed from battery but instead it pulls from the grid. This is when the battery is at 100%. Two separate occasions Sep-Dec 2023 Haleakala Solar came out and attempted repairs. Throughout this time I reported approximately 20 to 30 emails with screenshots documenting issue and that issue was still occurring I contacted battery bonus program to see if this could be an issue. And also to cancel the installation of program since Haleakala Solar never provided HECO proper documentation for HECO to validate data.. I had to fill out a form send it in to get this program canceled since Haleakala Solar wouldn't. In December President Jim Whitcomb during phone call even admitted that Haleakala failed on their part getting the battery bonus program working and lack of service he assured me they would get it working. I asked Haleakala Solar several times could this issue be related to Battery program that was never successfully hooked up and I was assuring no. Contacted Tesla after several long 15 to 20 minute phone calls with them plus numerous emails documenting issue back and forth. As of early December it's in Tesla Tier two tech support and their recommendation December 24, 2023 was "Further your advanced settings need to be changed to export everything as opposed to solar only. Please go to settings, powerwall scroll down to advanced settings, permission to export to change the setting. Which I emailed to Haleakala Solar and they never came out to try. In late December conference call with Jim Whitcomb president and Mokihana Techical Lead at Haleakala Solar sent him screenshots of issue. Mokihana guessed it was low internet signal and they were to install a booster. I sent him Tesla's recommendation. They never came out to try either fix. From December to Feb to sent emails to Haleakala Solar documenting issue still occurring. And my new strategy was to find another solar company and bill Haleakala for its repair. Several companies didn't want to get involved in another's mess. 2/14/24 Filed BBB complaint which they said responded "We are working on finding a solution to what is happening with the battery at Mr. Taylors house. I will contact out head electrician and the owner and see when the soonest we can get out there will be. " 2/23/24 Filed compliant with State of Hawaii DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND CONSUMER AFFAIRS 3/1/24 Sent Haleakala Solar a registered letter including a demand to repair within 14 days or face legal action for breach of warranty. Needless to say I'm sure when this is resolved I will never get any help from Haleakala Solar on any warranty service. Its worth it though letting everyone know our experience with Haleakala Solar's unbelievably poor service.

I had that well-known feeling, like you're dealing with used car dealerships. The salesmen lied right in my face countless times just to get the contract. I was quite disappointed with a few contractors with flashy websites. Damon's offer was the best in terms of price/quality. He didn't send any salesmen to my house, because he shows up himself. I wish I didn't have to waste my time on talking to everybody else. He showed up as promised. There were no hidden extra fees. No broken deadlines. It all went smooth. Our solar system perfectly resisted the outage which lasted for 6 hours in January 2025.

Called to have a plumber come check on a leak in our garage. I assumed it was the water heater,…read morebecause it was the only thing in the garage. The plumber didn't look at anything other than the water heater and stated it needs to be replaced. He quoted a price that made me swear immediately. I apologized as it was out of character, he said it was ok, but the water heater needed to be replaced and it was up to me. I told him if it needs to, I don't have any options, do what he needs to. As he was removing the water heater, I pointed out the areas there was water and I didn't think it came from the water heater as the water heater would have been spraying water in order to get that far. The plumber stated he has been doing this for over 20 years and he knows what he is doing. After the water heater was removed, he said it needed to drain. He left and came back about a hour later, the water heater dripped really slowly the entire time he was gone. I mentioned that if there was a hole in the water heater, wouldn't air go through the hole and help the water drain from the spigot faster. He stated that I didn't understand the science of it and that the hole closes when disconnected from the water because there is no longer presser. He completed the replacement and left. I swept out all the water from the garage and didn't think much of it. I checked on the garage the next day and the garage was full of water again. I called Steve's Plumbing and the same guy came out. He said that he needed to do an inspection of the house to find out where the leak was coming from, he said before he did, it would cost so much per hour to look for the leak. I told that's what he supposed to have done before, but he didn't look at anything other than the water heater and stated it needed to be replaced. He said it was my fault and that he didn't look for a leak because it was the water heater, I reminded him that I said their is leak in the garage which we needed him to look at and the only thing directly connected to water was the water heater. He repeated it was his fault, it was mine. I asked him to leave and stated at me and refused. Only after telling him he needed to leave the property or I would call the police because he wasn't welcomed, he finally left. I called another company, it turns out there was a pipe broke in the wall. The plumber explained all things Steve's Plumbing should have done to ensure the issue was corrected, more specially, checking the water pressure before work started and checking the water pressure when the job was complete to ensure the issue had been resolved. They also explained that we paid way too much replacing a water heater (which didn't need to be replaced). I'll never use Steve's Plumbing again.
