Crispy outside rolled around a cream cheese inside and served with jalapeño jelly. We also split the smokehouse burger and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. All so good! You can never go wrong with Brussels with blue cheese crumbles and bacon pieces! We will definitely return if we are in the area again. I'd like to try again for dinner since the lunch menu seemed pretty limited.

The ladies and the chef are extremely friendly and checking in frequently with us. Ambience, it kind of reminds me of a Cracker Barrel but a local version. There are a handful of rooms for tables and/or you can sit at the bar. They even have fresh cheese you can buy. They've won plenty of awards regarding their cheese over many many years.

So I have to believe that I maybe my fish and chips were just a one off. I also thought that the entree was fair priced at $15, but $10 for the soup was a bit much. (And now that I look at the menu (the next day) the soup is listed at $5.99...makes me wonder why I was charged $9.99??). Maybe the $6 is for a cup? It doesn't offer a cup or a bowl on the menu, just a price of $5.99. Shame on me for not noticing and asking I guess!

They were glad to take our money, but not willing to treat senior citizens with any amount of common respect. We havent been there since, and we wont go back for any reason. If you're looking for a classic small-town diner with great food and even better people, the Next-door Café is hard to beat. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the service is consistently fast without ever feeling rushed. The food comes out hot, fresh, and exactly what you hope for from a hometown café -- hearty portions, great flavor, and consistency every time. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but the chicken fried steak is outstanding and absolutely worth trying.
