My mouse was frozen couldn't move it, rebooted still stuck in the middle of screen, replaced batteries, replaced mouse and keyboard. Still frozen went in to ask if they could help. I believe his name was Jeff, he hooked my computer up and instantly found the problem was my drivers. He installed new drivers the mouse worked and this was all done in about 15 minutes and during his lunch break I might add!!! Also my external hard drive wasn't showing up on my screen either. These guys really know what they're doing! I first used their services back in June because I was having trouble completely removing all traces of incompatible antivirus software from my computer so that I could install a different brand of virus protection software. They completely removed the old software and installed my new software for a nominal fee. Yesterday, I found myself in need of their services once more and again was extremely pleased, so I wanted to acknowledge them on Yelp to let others know how good they are! Sorry for the long post, I hope my story will help others avoid this computer virus. A few days ago I was on the net and got a message to update my flash program. It was late and I didn't notice that the message looked different then the usual ones from adobe so I clicked it... A few seconds later my computer froze up and displayed a frightening notice from the FBI that I had illegal software installed on my computer and now need to redeem myself by paying a fine of 300 by buying a moneypak gift card from Walgreen. Luckily it was late at night and I didn't want to go out of bed to go get that gift card. Next morning I came to my senses and a quick search on my phone explained it all, this is a scam computer virus and if you get fooled and pay there is virtually no way you can get you money back. Searching for a way to get rid of this virus safely resulted in a few sites with instruction on a DIY methods but they seemed to be pretty complicated and I was worried about my pictures and staff. So, I decided to go with a pro. Later that day I called a few computer repair shops in the area to inquire about virus removal. I got answers that ranged from "It may take a few days" to "have to format your computer and you may loose your files if you dont have a backup (I don't)" and prices that ranged from $95 for formatting to 235 data recovery. The conversation with the technician from next door geeks was sympathetic and he sounded knowledgeable, I likes that he was confident that my files will not be harmed and that the work will be done that same day. After a bit of a drive I arrived to the store that was packed with customers so I expected a long wait. to my surprise these technicians were very efficient, I was greeted politely and asked to have a seat. About five minutes later it was my turn. The tech (Claudio) greeted me again wit a smile and I explained what was wrong with my computer. When started to pronounce the words "flash update" he said "ah, the fbi virus" and proceeded to explain how this virus work and its possible origins. This was nice because computer technicians are usually not that friendly and communicative for most part. The whole thing didn't take more than a few minutes, and I left my computer there. About two hours later I got a call that it was ready. I came at the end of the day and again they were pretty full but i did not wait more then a few minutes. The computer was perfect and all my file in tact. It was also sparkling clean which is very nice of them. The thing I liked most was that they said to call them before i clicked something suspicious and that they do not charge for these kind of questions. All in all it was a very nice experience. Pros: Polite, knowledgeable and very friendly,price was reasonable. Cons: Well, maybe a bit of a drive for me, but worth if. Take it easy, pull yourself off the couch and take a trip in nature this weekend! read more

Joe of Next Door Geeks suggested that he could speed up my computer by installing a new Solid State Drive. Although promised to be done within two weeks, he kept my computer for four months repeatedly promising to have it done 'soon'. Because he avoided taking or returning my phone calls, I was required to travel to his shop in person to get status information. Bottom line is that my very EXPENSIVE video editing computer that was functioning properly with all of my special software was returned to me in a USELESS condition. It would not even boot up! The only solution he offered was to SELL to me a newer used computer at his cost, but it would not have any editing related software that I was accustomed to using. I am in my late 70's and he wanted me to buy and learn how to use new expensive software! His explanation was "Your computer was old and outdated". I ultimately shipped the unit to a company I trusted and had previously done business with and although they found the unit to be horribly messed up, they in fact successfully installed a new SS drive. Unfortunately, they were unable to recapture the software which Next Door Geeks destroyed. Next Door Geeks took my functioning computer denying me it's use for several months and I wound up having to pay another company $657.02 to finally have it operational again..... WITHOUT my special editing related software, Despite my attempts to receive some compensation, the best Joe offered was $110.00 which he promised to send to me, but in fact even failed to do that. NDG trashed my laptop - it was working fine, just a bit hot. Brought it in to repair the fan as a precautionary measure and when it came to pickup the entire system was dead, they had pulled the power while doing system stuff despite being warned about a bad battery. I rely on my laptop for work - in total, with the initial repair, and a second attempt at repair and ordering a new laptop, I waited three weeks until they finally conceded they had broken it. The net result was I was down $300 and a workstation laptop, and given a replacement Walmart laptop that performs too slowly for me to work at a reasonable rate - it cannot perform photo editing in real time, let alone video which is my main work. The drivers on the replacement were badly installed - the brightness was unadjustable and video not playing back. The Windows 8 licence sticker had been scratched off. Asked many times along the way for the specs of the replacement laptop but NDG pressed ahead without supplying them in writing or attaining consent for the swap. On top of that, parts from my own laptop which I had bought myself were, we were told on pick up, scrapped and sold to cover NDG's losses. Very dodgy and disconcerting to deal with. Wish I had kept the $300 and saved it for whenever I next needed a new machine, as this one is useless to me for work purposes. Don't trust these dorks. read more

My Apple. My poor Apple. Fast I7 with 16gb Ram. Then it happened - the dreaded white screen. Tried All fixes online. Took this puppy to Best Buy - they had it 2 days and told me it was the video card! Didn't want to shlep this thru the Aventura Mall to the Apple store - to be treated like cattle. Then I tried this shop. Small but well laid out and looking well established i.e.not a fly-by-night operation. Had to replace a dead hard drive. Opted for an SSD instead of old drive - now lightning fast - keeping my kids off it now!! Will be back for any/all of my computer issues ( those that I can't handle ). Thank You read more

A lot of people do not want to write a bad review because they don't have time or feel as though it won't make a difference. I am writing this review to warn people about the unethical and illegal practices that occur at this business. I took my Apple laptop in as the motherboard got fried from a water spill. I am a single mother and my kids use the computer for homework assignments. I paid upfront the amount requested and waited. It took about two months. When I got my computer back, I realized that the serial number on the back panel was different! Freaking out, I called the Next Door Geeks emergency number. No one answered and no one called me back. I called again. Finally I got someone on the phone, JENNIFER CEBALLOS, who referred to herself as the manager. She was apologetic and told me that the tech made a mistake. Did I mention that the back panel was from an older version...the story gets worse. I checked to make sure it was actually my computer. It was however, Next Door Geeks replaced my mother board with a smaller/inferior mother board. When I went to the store, the tech had a stack of motherboards, not in packaging and appearing to be used on a counter. He told me that he tried a few in my computer until he found one that worked! OMG! I told Jennifer that was unacceptable and that I had paid to have it replaced with the same size and NEW motherboard. She told me that "Joe" the owner, would call me. I am not sure who Joe actually is, as the owner on Sunbiz lists a SHIRIT WINBERG as the owner. Joe did call and told me that they made a mistake, and it was the tech's fault and that it would cost me a few hundred dollars more to get what I should have gotten to start off with! I told him that was not acceptable. He told me it was not a big deal and that I should not be upset. I guess this is the way they do business on a regular basis. He continued to blame the tech and told me that he fired the guy. He then offered another product I was not interested in buying! Finally, after weeks of arguing and threatening to call the District Attorney's Office, they agreed IN WRITING to provide the service and product I paid for. I have this in writing in an e-mail. I stopped by the store and the same tech was there, I am pretty much convinced that the tech is a lot more honest than his employer. It has been six months, they do not take my calls and ignore my e-mails. THESE ARE THE MOST UNETHICAL PEOPLE I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH AND I STRONGLY WARN ALL NOT TO BE FOOLED BY THE POSITIVE REVIEWS. read more

I made an account just to rate. It's been almost 4 weeks. I haven't even received a single phone call telling me what's going on, after they initially took a week longer than they said they would just to figure out what the issue is. They STILL aren't sure but no ones called me to tell me anything. I have to keep hounding them. You walk in and its a mess of laptops. They're very unorganized, I've gone twice already and had to wait both times while the guys in there wandered aimlessly looking lost until they finally found mine to give me an update. There was another guy in there at the same time I was who was complaining that he received a call saying that he had paid for and picked up his laptop, even though he hadn't. I'm going tomorrow, no more waiting for their never-coming phone call, and I'm taking my laptop home whether its fixed or not. I prefer honesty above everything else - if they don't know what the issue is, I rather they just tell me versus having my shit just sitting there collecting dust amongst their clutter. I recently took my boyfriend's laptop to Next Door Geeks because it was running slow. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and it made me feel welcome especially because he was with another customer at the time. We explained what was going on with the laptop. He turned on the laptop and knew exactly what the problem was. He made a couple of suggestions and said that he could have it back to us the next day (only because we brought the laptop in close to closing). The price was great too. I will be returning. A 5 Star Rating isn't enough for what these guys did for me, so please know in my eyes, they get a 10 Star Rating! I had challenges with my intercom radio system in my home with the power connection coming in and not working properly. I told them over the phone what I thought was not making the connection and that proper soldering needed to be done. They said bring it over. 30 minutes later, it was fixed. Went home, plugged the board in, hooked up electric and it works better than ever! Also bought an awesome Ipad Cover for only $20 bucks! They truly are awesome to work with and put in long hours. YOU CAN NOT GET BETTER PRICING EITHER... Joe and Juan care so much about customers being happy and it shows! Thank you guys! That's why I'm taking the tiime to write this. I went to these people for data recovery and from the beginning there were red flags. After having my drive for close to two months and hearing nothing from them, I called, and the response I got from one of their technicians named Guy was that he was happy I called because they lost the card I filled out when I dropped the drive off, and so they didn't know who the drive belonged to but figured I would eventually call asking for it. Several more months went by of me calling every few weeks and no progress seemed to be being made. Finally, they told me around Oct/Nov that they needed to purchase parts for the drive, and I would have to pay for it ($300). I agreed because they assured me that in most cases they can recover around 80% of the data, and even if they couldn't there was a strong chance they could recover something. I called constantly after that to find out when I would get some feedback on what percentage of the data they were able to recover. Between October and December I got no answers from them. They didn't tell me until the end of January (after having my drive for OVER SIX MONTHS) that the drive had been damaged beyond repair and they couldn't recover anything at all. So $300 and 6 months later this was essentially a huge waste of my time and money. When I dropped the drive off to Next Door Geeks, it was not damaged beyond repair at that point, so the obvious conclusion is that in their attempt to get the drive spinning they caused irreversible damage. I would not recommend this company at all. From the beginning the customer service/follow up was poor and the fact that one of their own employees said to me that they lost the card that went with my drive, raises massive concerns about quality control. I believe that if I had sent my drive to a more knowledgeable data recovery company, I may have been able to recover at least some of the data. I know data recovery is never guaranteed but I'm NOT confident that these people were the most competent to attempt it. For anyone considering data recovery, I would recommend contacting a company like Gillware Data Recovery. They cover the shipping costs to mail the drive to them, and they will not charge you for any parts unless they are actually able to recover the data. If they have to purchase parts and can't recover the data, they take the responsibility and eat the cost of the parts. I'm sorry I didn't go to Gillware sooner. My experience with Next Door Geeks was AWFUL. read more

Took in a Surface Pro and they reported they could not get parts for it. They said they would keep checking for the parts and I kept calling back to check the status. Each time I called, I was told the parts were still too expensive and not worth the replacement. I kept in touch with a tech named Jennifer and then one day they said that it was no longer there because I left it for too long. I think they refurbished it and sold it because the parts did not seem that expensive online. How can they just take my equipment and decide not to call me or have me pick it up.
