From intake to discharge, the focus is on billing insurance, minimizing costs, and pushing people through programs whether or not it benefits them. Let's start with the staff. Many are underqualified, underpaid, and overworked. High turnover is the norm. You might meet a few individuals who genuinely care -- but they're trapped in a broken system that doesn't let them do their jobs effectively. Group therapy often becomes a recycled, repetitive script. One-on-ones? If you get one, it'll likely be rushed and superficial. Facilities vary by location, but many are poorly maintained, dirty, and in disrepair -- which is ironic given how much they charge. Some clients have reported broken showers, mold, rodent issues, and lack of access to basic hygiene products. Your environment matters in recovery, and Pyramid makes it feel like punishment, not treatment. The medical side? A joke. Medication errors happen. People have gone days without seeing a nurse. That is fine, staffing is an issue. However, how can a medical provider (of essential home based services to an elderly individual), not call (after 2 MD referrals), to say "I am sorry, we don't have the staff to provide in home nursing support in your area currently"? If you can get care from CarePartners that's great. But, they don't seem to do any follow up outreach (while needy patients are waiting) to tell you they don't have the staff.

I received a large bill for two prosthetic devices that I thought would be covered under my insurance as I broke my ankle and had been out of network. I had to call several times to get them to bill my insurance, and when I called, they noted that they hadn't received that information. After several tries, they did forward to my insurance, who unfortunately​ did not cover the items, despite the fact that I had received them in an emergency situation. I questioned the bill because I couldn't believe I was charged $145 for a $14.50 device, and they showed absolutely no compassion, instead charged me the full price and wouldn't budge. They kept focusing on the financial agreement that I had signed in my doctor's office when I was in pain from a broken ankle. I explained my frustration about the medical industry and the lack of access to affordable health care and asked for a discount​​, since I would be paying cash and I was currently not working. They threatened to hang up on me and so I finally caved in and paid the bill in full, again being taken advantage of by a health care system that has no interest in providing affordable services to those out of work. I feel terrible that I was forced to pay this bill, because otherwise, they would have sent it to a collection agency.

She was a sober girl, not there for addiction treatment. They overmedicated her to the point that she was unable to function or advocate for herself. When she complained about the side effects she was hushed and basically forced to continue taking them. Both of the short calls we were allowed to have while she was there were monitored and she was not allowed to express her desire to leave. Ultimately the drugs they were giving her and then abruptly stopped giving her put her in a paranoid delusional state. When they realized the side effects of the drugs had pushed her over the edge she was forcibly discharged. She was taken in handcuffs by the sherriff to blue pod at Mission Hospital. When I first saw her later that day she was paranoid, delusional and TRAUMATIZED. She came out of there ten thousand times worse than when she went in and never fully recovered from her two week stay at Red Oak. They were extremely careless with her life and I would hesitate to send your loved ones there for anything other than addiction.

These all day "meetings" were never instructed by licensed staff and almost all of them were ex-addicts (overall very nice) making $17.50/hr. working psychologist I was supposed to meet w/ daily, I only saw privately 3x's. I was there to safely come off benzo's prescribed by a physician, and although I never abused them, Crestview had their hooks on me because I have great insurance. After my 30 days was up I was told by the psychologist (who saw me briefly 3x over 4 weeks) told me I wasn't ready to leave and I had to stay an additional 30 days. When I had called initially to check myself in I was very clear that I was signing up for the 30 day program AND NOT the 60 days the man on the phone said sure. On day 28 I was told that I was "digressing" which was a lie because I felt better than good. After I explained that I signed up for 30 days and not 60, she told me "it's 30 or 60 if days depending on the Dr.'s discretion". was told that I was free to leave but they would not bring me back to my apartment because they said I was leaving against their orders. My family is from Connecticut and I was alone in Asheville 3 hours away from my apartment without any way to reach my family. My phone, wallet and all other necessary personal items were locked up in their office. I was told I'd have to wait 72 hours before I got my phone and wallet. It was February in the Blue Ridge Mountains and I had a flight leaving Charlotte the next morning to see my dying grandmother, but no one cared. I had to walk over a mile to use a man's phone at a bus stop to have my mother call the police to come see what was happening...thankfully my mother believed what I was telling her and not only called the police but got in touch with Senator Julie Mayfield. My things were finally given back and I had to pay $352.00 for an uber to take me almost 3 hours to Douglas airport in Charlotte to fly home. It's tragic how many people I saw being held there...every couple of days someone came back in the room in tears because they were told they could not leave...family members and loved ones were also deceived to gain support for keeping their loved ones there longer because Crestview knows most patients all have habits of lying and manipulating so they use that to their advantage. Crestview and its management have perfected the art of isolating patients and billing CRAZY $$$ to your insurance. ***Senator Mayfield already had an investigation into Crestview*** I'm proud to say that I've maintained my sobriety. I had many items stolen (presumably by staff as I don't see who else could have had access to the belongings in my suitcase that was sitting in a locked closet), had nothing done about a patient that was threatening to harm me, was constantly put down by staff and there was 0 communication between the facility and my family. They never gave an official treatment plan and their set goal weight for me was the weight that triggered my restriction in the first place. My family wasn't informed of my discharge until the day of and had to fly states to pick me up. The clinic director uses her position to bully those who call out her abuse of power. They did non of the things that were promised and left me utterly traumatized for a number of reasons. This isn't treatment, it's torture.
