I've been renting cars from this location in Frederick MD for about a year now and the customer service has gotten worse. I am never greeted when I walk in, in fact I have to walk fully up to the desk for someone to finally open their mouth. The manager Eli just stands there with a blank face as well as Joseph. I just rented a car a few days ago and the same thing happened and while I was there Eli asked a customer how everything regarding their rental was, I notice I do not get the same treatment as certain customer's. I have never been asked how my rental and experience was and I rent with NextCar very frequently in fact twice a month sometimes. The cars are never clean in the inside there's always combs and strings of hair and debre in the cup holder's etc. The past two times I rented a car from them the car would not start at the light, and the lights would not go out in the car. It seems to always be something wrong with these cars. It's always a light popping up for tire pressure or something which makes me wonder how often these cars are being serviced. I've been very nice about keeping my mouth shut and not giving bad surveys when they're sent to me to complete because I didn't want to be harsh. But enough is enough I rather take my money somewhere else and experience top tier customer service. Every customer should be treated with the same respect and greeted. I should have read reviews before I reserved a car here. Unless you have a Maryland Drivers license they are clueless. I am from Texas and when you change your address with the DMV. you are required to surrender your drivers license and receive a temporary paper license. Well, if you are flying, TSA will not accept a paper identification so I did not change the address yet because I was getting ready to fly. I was able to locate my official change of address from the USPS website that validates the old and new address. Nope!!!! Not good enough for them! I was told to call corporate about it. Hah! What a joke because all corporate is, is a bunch of people to will make a new reservation. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT rent a vehicle from them. 1. They charge you an INSANE amount to rent. It's more cost effective to use Turo or even Hertz. 2. They practically force your hand with their insurance. If your deductible isn't under 1k (like seriously who has a deductible that low in this economy?) you have to get their insurance or change your personal insurance. Their insurance is extremely expensive. 3. They do not honor the 3rd party insurance that you pay for if you book through a website like Priceline (it's really because Priceline is half the cost & they're price gorging). 4. If you request a small sedan be ready for some sort of SUV because they "don't have smaller cars available". So if you're not comfortable with you driving a bigger vehicle just ignore them. 5. The "office" is small and has ONE chair for guest to wait at. So hopefully you don't come when it's busy because you'll be standing there. 6. The staff are just basic staff & really don't seem to care either way. They're just there to collect a paycheck & move on with their lives (but really I can't blame them since they work for such a shitty company) 7. They also require a DEPOSIT OF $250. Turo doesn't require any deposit & it's waaaaaaay cheaper. The deposit is "refundable" but they can't explain why they even need one. (And this is a deposit for someone over the age of 26) 8. The car rented to me has a piece of plastic molding come off during my mostly freeway drive from the Nextcar Frederick location to a gas station about 180 miles from the Frederick location (again, I was on the freeway the entire). At the gas station I noticed that this piece of plastic molding had come off and so later I emailed the Frederick Nextcar email and never received a response. Today I returned the vehicle and explain what happened and the inspector said that I am liable because they can not find any broken plastic retainer clips. So, they're keeping my deductible which they say covers the cost of a new plastic moulding piece. This location is attached to the Fitzgerald dealership and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Fitzgerald Automotive family of companies. The inspector is a Fitzgerald Automotive employee. I've rented cars for over 30 years and travel extensively and the is the first incident I have had with any car. Help me understand why a part that is meant to stay on the car, and that typically does even in a fender bender, comes off when I'm driving on the freeway for not apparent reason(?). And, help me understand why Fitzgerald Automotive is holding me liable for this and going after my money when they are a multimillion dollar family of companies? DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. Pay the extra couple bucks and go with the reputable company! It's not worth the savings. Employees are dishonest and unethical. They will lie, make sure you protect yourself and document everything. I have a small impact vehicle and planned a road trip from Maryland to Florida. We needed to rent an SUV since we just had our first child (Six weeks old). We picked up the vehicle from the Frederick location and the SUV reeked of cigarette smoke. We were told that there are no other SUV's therefore we could not get another vehicle for our trip. We purchased multiple different air fresheners, baking soda and used coffee beans, however the cigarette odor could not be eliminated. It literally made me feel sick as we were driving. I was worried about having the infant in the vehicle. We had to wash all our clothes once we arrived in Florida. Everything that was inside the vehicle smelled like cigarette smoke. I called Nextcar's customer service number and was disappointed to learn that they do not partner with the other locations, therefore I could not exchange the vehicle for another car. During our ten day trip, we had approximately 5 different people inside the vehicle. Everybody commented on the smell as soon as they entered the vehicle. We made it back to Maryland with no issues. I never asked for a discount, only asked for a vehicle that didn't reek of cigarette smoke. I was expecting a "Sorry" however this is when the experience became horrible. As I dropped off the vehicle to the locations manager (His name is either Abu or Adu) showed no empathy nor apologized. Instead, he somehow looked at me with a straight face and told me that the SUV does not smell like cigarette smoke. Mind you, there was no 'hint' of smoke. The vehicle absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. There is no way he didnt smell this. For him to tell me this was absolutely ridiculous. I call his manager and was told "Ok, the holidays are coming up, you know how management goes, we forget often since were very busy, but call me back after thanksgiving break and I'll see if I can give you a discount." I learned my lesson renting from the local low-budget car rental shop. You get what you pay for. A disgusting vehicle and horrible customer service. read more

THE WORST, and I mean this with all sincerity. From the minute we stepped into next car, the women at the front counter was rude with zero customer service. We were the only customer in line, and it took about 45 minutes. When my fiancé asked about an upgrade to a bigger car, she was so rude and told him he would be charged extra (which he assumed!) After a rental at Hertz falling through at the last second, NextCar was able to get all my info and rent me a VERY nice 2021 car for only $60 a day! The employee, Andrea, at customer service was very kind and helpful. They made sure the car I was recieving was in good condition and were sure to point out any flaws with the vehicle. Make sure you have your insurance info handy though because they will call and verify! Overall, a wonderful experience and I will only be renting from here in the future. read more

Do not rent from this place. All the negative reviews are correct- we should have read them before giving this place a shot. Terrible customer service, took over an hour to rent our car and verify our insurance even though we were the only customers there. They will nickel and dime you for every little thing. The car had a light come on and then the car started driving very poorly it's stalled out in the intersection.I almost got into a fatal car accident because the car wouldn't move I brought it to the rental companies attention and they only wanted to give me 10 percent off. I will never rent from this place again I feel like I was cheated out of my money. I wish I could dispute it to get my money back because I feel like I shouldn't have to pay for a dysfunctioning car! Rented a large cargo van with an 8 am arrival time. The van was not ready as it was going through "routine service". The rep's kept pushing the time back until finally at 9 am I was able to get the vehicle. Was offered 20% off which amounted to $16 off of my bill but I complained, to no avail, that this discount was not high enough. They said a manager, Abu, would call in two days to discuss the matter further. Since it has been over a week, and I still have not heard from them my only recourse is to objectively review them. DO NOT rent from here. they are still holding our deposit. they will not contact us back, we were told they'd give us a call by noon (the fog light was out of place, still there, we didnt even notice and they're trying to charge us, the light is still in the car!!) We had to call them back at 4pm, at that time they said we cant talk we'll call you back in 10 min. an hour later WE called them, and they said they couldn't talk still, and they'd "call us back when they can." it's been 3 days. Rented a car for two weeks because the price was almost $75 cheaper than the other places in Frederick. Once I got into the car I noticed how it stunk like smoke and how the seats were full of stains. Yuk. I thought to myself that it wasn't a big deal since I only needed the car for basic transportation in and around town. Once I actually drove the car I found the transmission slipped every time I needed to accelerate (like getting on I-70). Next time I need a car in Frederick, I will spend the extra $$ for a clean car that doesn't reek of smoke and that is in good working condition. The staff was really nice though! read more

These people have no idea of what customer service means. In the first interaction I attempted to overlook the lack of professionalism but once it affected my finances, it became a serious issue. I went in on 12/23 to get a rental. I was the only customer so There was no need for any type of distraction but clearly there was because I was charged twice for my rental. Once I noticed that I was charged twice I immediately called back to the counter and spoke with the clerk and I was told that one of the charges would dropped off. Well that Charge didn't drop off and I need to get my groceries two days before Christmas and I was unable to do that. I spoke with my bank and then I will again until the day after Christmas to speak with the company. After waiting for a return call I was originally told that I was overcharged once I spoke to the person in the corporate office I was told that I was not that maybe my bank took the money. I was given the runaround most of the experience over the past few days and in the meantime I'm being assessed overdraft fees that this company of course will not cover because they don't even want to admit to being thieves. I used this place because it was conveniently located in our little town but I will tell anyone please do not go here if you do not have to try to find you at ENTERPRISE, BUDGET, NATIONAL, ENTERPRISE rental car company that's reputable when it comes to renting cars. This is my first and last time ever use NEXTCAR. I will stick with dollar rental car company budget national enterprise I would never go here again. You've been warned. Right before the thanksgiving holiday I arrived early to pick up my rental, I had insurance with me and everything, I was attended by some timid kid who has no business working with people if he can't tell them something is wrong, I had rented a car 2 weeks prior and received a toll charge was I informed of this at the time I picking up my vehicle no, cause the kid had no balls to say so, I would've paid on the spot instead he had his coworker make up some bs excuse that I needed a Maryland state drivers license to rent the car I looked up their policy and it states a valid US ISSUED DRIVERS LICENSE is needed! They went on how a policy was "recently" issued and that they couldn't rent me a vehicle, I called up the number online and was informed by the rep that I was placed on a do not rent list because of my toll charge, this place is bs I wish the other lady who was there 3 weeks ago was there instead of those teenagers who have no customer service skills whatsoever, I went to USAVE and ended up with a better experience, never renting a car from here, please avoid if you can read more

I have had an extremely frustrating experience with NextCar. On August 20, I rented a car with them. This was my third time renting, because up until this time my experience had been pretty good. I rented the car for a weekend away in Pennsylvania. On my drive up on the 20th, the car ran okay for most of the trip, but toward the end it lurched or jerked a few times as I was driving it at a steady speed. I was close to my destination and made it there. The next day, I drove the car once, with the same experience on the return. On Sunday, the 22nd, about 45 minutes into my trip home, I started having more difficulties. Not only would the car lurch, but if I had to slow down or stop, I had trouble getting it to accelerate again. Then it started stalling out when I came to a stop. I tried calling NextCar''s central number, but, although they answered the phone, they said it was Sunday and the branch I rented from was closed. I asked what I should do and they put me on hold indefinitely. After the engine died at a stop sign for the third time, I pulled into a parking lot and called the After Hours Road Service number. I waited an hour and a half for a tow and was taken to a Firestone in Harrisburg, PA. When I got there, they said they wouldn't be able to look at the car that day. I found a hotel and spent the night, thinking that NextCar would help me get back home the next morning. When I finally got through to them the next morning, they had not been notified about what happened, and told me I would have to wait for the Firestone to look at it. I had to check out of the hotel at 11, and at that time, the Firestone had still not looked at it, and NextCar's advice was to just wait (where, I don't know). I took a Lyft home. After not hearing from NextCar for the last week (and not having my call to them returned), I just got through to discuss reimbursement for the rental, my hotel, and the Lyft. Instead, they said that the were considering holding me accountable for the cost of recovering the car, because when they Firestone drove it locally, they couldn't reproduce what I had experienced. I don't know how it will all play out, but I do know that I would recommend that you stay away from renting from them. read more

I made the mistake of renting a car here....The car had many issues. Service lights coming on consistently Low pressure in tire light was on whole time. Checked a couple of times and read ok but light never went out. I had a schedule to keep or I would have returned the car. Sorry I didn't anyway. On way home, I got a flat tire on Hwy in the picth black, so I was not getting out to fix it. I called road service and waited over 45 min. On return of the car, they put it in the shop. They said they did not find the issues, but would not charge me. Well guess what, the manager charged me anyway and basically said TUFF. I found the charge on my credit card after the fact and I never authorized it. They put out garbage, they tell you garbage. This was the Manager I dealt with. STEER CLEAR of NEXT CAR FITZGERALD!!!! We had an issue that required a rental very close to their closing time on a Friday night before a holiday. Unfortunately, I do not remember the name of the woman that helped me, but she handled the transaction smoothly even though I was a bit frazzled and it went past their closing time. Truly NOT customer friendly! I booked online for a reasonable price, but once I went to pick up the car it was a nightmare. My husband and I showed up at 7 am so he could get to work on time. We brought our major credit card, license, and statement of insurance. At which point, they called our local insurance company to verify that our coverage included rentals. It's 7am! Of course our insurance office doesn't open for hours! At this point, I suggested a laundry list of options or solutions, none of which they even considered. I requested to handle everything in a couple hours but needed to get my husband to work. Also, not acceptable since he couldn't sign the paperwork without the processing done first, nor could he sign later. We asked about pick up service later in the day once the insurance company could be reached, but it's not offered. The multiple solutions I offered were all rejected and they truly didn't care that my husband was already late for work. After nearly 30 minutes of hitting a brick wall, we left. I finally took my husband to work, left his car in the parking lot and called Enterprise on West Patrick. Within 15 minutes they picked me up, took me to their office and had me on the road. The staff at Next Car is excellent. They are very helpful and courteous - professional all around. That being said, consider other options if you are renting a car for other than around-town use. I recently rented a Ford Focus, and the car was a bucket of bolts. First, the steering was so loose, it took exaggerated corrections to steer the car - certainly a safety hazard! The car reeked of cigarette smoke, and had been treated with some chemical to mask the smell - but of course to no avail. The car was limited to a max speed of 80. Of course this isn't really a problem, but I was not informed of this at the time of rental. It's not fun to learn that your car has been gelded when you are trying to pass or accelerate out of a problem. To top that off, the radio volume was also capped. I linked my iPhone via USB, and I couldn't hear podcasts and other media since the volume could not be turned up past the 1/3 point. All-in-all I saved a little money by renting here, but I won't be back. Any major car rental agency outshines this unscrupulous business! read more
