Don't rent from the guy. His name is Emmett Stroker and he works at Enterprise Truck rental in Frederick. He was rude, short with other customers, abusive, threatening, and in the end he tried to penalize me for not accepting his negativity, by charging me an extra $2500 "Miscellaneous" (photo attached). Enterprise is great. I have used them for years. And will do so in the future. But don't rent from this guys Emmett Stroker. Hannah was amazing to work with today. When we arrived, we overheard her dealing with a rude customer over the phone, which we felt she handled very professionally. When dealing with us, she did not let that previous incident impact our level customer service. We had originally booked a 26' box truck online, not realizing how ENORMOUS it actually was! Absolutely horrible location with incompetent employees, have had massive issues with last 2 experiences at this location within the past month. Both of these mishaps caused by employee incompetence cost me late pickup fees of hundreds of dollars and almost cost me several thousand dollars in missed pickup fees. Most recent experience first, 2 weeks ago I reserved a 15 foot "parcel van", which is what I always get when I get a rental there (over a dozen times in past year). A week later and 2 days before reservation, I called the office to confirm that truck would be available (as I was worried after my experience the previous month) and they confirmed it was and there were no issues. On the day of pickup last week, we did the paperwork and waited for her to bring the truck around and we were shocked and confused to see a completely different truck that what I reserved. I told her that wasn't the one I reserved and she said that was the only one they had available (despite seeing several other trucks in the back lot area). Instead they were giving me a 16 foot "Cabover" truck. For those who don't know what that is, they are those weird looking vehicle with no nose and have proven much lower safety standards than a tradition "parcel van" that I reserved, are seldomly seen in the U.S. I was not happy about this, but have actually never driven one and was in a desperate situation as I had to pick up several thousand pounds of items over 200 miles away in 3 1/2 hours. The place where I had to pick these items up have late pickup fees (starting at $100 and increasing based on how late) and fees for not picking up items on scheduled day that vary based on scheduled pickup and in my case would have came out to well over $3,000 if I didn't pick these items that day. Based on no other choice and them not even trying to accommodate for the vehicle that I actually reserved, we signed the paper and started driving. My wife started driving and was immediately terrified which surprised me as she very much enjoys driving the trucks when we rent them on average of monthly. I didn't understand why she was so scared at first and after a few miles she said she won't drive that truck as its not safe. I didn't understand what she meant so she pulled over and I started driving. Not to get too much into my background, but I'm, ex-miliary and was licensed for and drove extremely large vehicles and trucks to include a deuce and a half, a five ton and even an M1A1 battletank and I even spent several years as a certified defensive driver instructor. Additionally, I regularly drive the rental box trucks. Sufficient to say, I know how to drive a wide variety of vehicles. Within seconds I immediately figured out why my wife was terrified to drive this vehicle as for starters it was clearly out of alignment. The steering wheel in straight position was at about a 45 degree angle to the right. Secondly, this vehicle either didn't have power steering (which I didn't even think was possible in todays world) or had serious issues with the steering wheel to where instead of the normal slight moves to turn or adjust direction, you would have to do entire steering wheel rotations for even small adjustments moving straight. I've never seen anything quite like this and it made it near impossible to keep the vehicle straight and in the lines. I quickly confirmed that my wife was right and this vehicle was NOT safe to drive and we would be near guaranteed an accident trying to drive that up the mountains on a busy trucking route when there were such serious issues with the steering. I called the company back and said we had to return it (approximately 10 minutes after we had left there). They said to return it and they would work out a solution when we got there. As soon as I walked in, an employee names "Hannah" who was same woman who answered the phone when I called, immediately had attitude that we returned the vehicle. I informed her that I was upset that they gave us an unsafe vehicle and a vehicle that wasn't even the one that I reserved and informed her they also screwed us over a few weeks earlier and cost me hundreds of dollars in late pickup fees. Her attitude got worse and she said well just give me the keys and leave, we will cancel the contract and refund your money. I told her that didn't help me as I needed a truck now as I had a pickup a long ways away in less than 3 1/2 hours that would result in fees if I wasn't on time or missed pickup. She didn't care. I asked her if she was going to pay my late fees as I sucked them up last time they messed up a few weeks earlier and she ignored me and my money hasn't been returned yet. Last month, I had truck reserved and minutes before reservation for pickup, they called and said they didn't have a truck for me. I informed them that wasn't an option as would cost me thousands of dollars. Eventually they got me a truck but it took over 2 hours which made me late and cost me fees. read more
