NextCar rental gets 0 stars! I booked a vehicle online for a little under $700. When I arrived he asked if I had insurance I replied no I checked the box to use your insurance. He replies he doesn't see it. Then he says I need to pay the damage waiver fee $25/day but online it's says $35/day with a box next to it as if it's optional. So now I'm paying for the car, roadside assistance, damage waiver fee, and on top of that tried to charge me double for the insurance. Now I'm being told my total is going from a little under $700 to over $1000. I just finished dealing with a scamming car rental agency. You're told one price but when you arrive for pickup it's a much higher price to scam consumers for more money because they know you have plans and their scheme is hoping you'll just pay it and be on your way. Beware of any agency that says Cashapp, Zelle, or Venmo are acceptable forms of payment. Once you've made payment through these app and want to dispute because you suspect fraud you will not get your money back. I walked out and went to a legitimate car rental agency. I will never step in NextCar rental ever again. read more

We booked a rental w/ nextcar thru expedia. our flight to Minneapolis was delayed and they kept it delaying it during the day until they canceled it. we called the front desk and the guy gave us a answer that it was not his problem. we decided to cancel the whole trip due to lack of help to re-use our same booking the next day. we requested a refund thru expedia and these people refused to refund our money. the flight canceled due to flat tire and some delays in the air traffic in the Washington DC area last Wednesday. they did not considered anything to refund or help us. we won't consider this vendor in the future. read more

I had a 1pm appointment to pick up a car, stood in line for a hour and half waiting, while two poor desk agents struggled with computer issues. At one point one of the agents decided he needed a break and walked outside. Leaving one agent with over 30 people, yes I counted. Once I got assistance, I was tackled with all kinds of hidden fees, my prepaid $449 was now $1027.60. I was then sent outside in the heat (Puerto Rico) to stand and wait for my car. A hour later, a black car, DIRTY, sound running rough pulls up, guy gets out, yells my name, throws paperwork in car and walks away. 30 minutes later still waiting, I videoed all the damage to outside of car, the stained smelly seats, the low tire pressure light. When I asked the agent about the low pressure light, he told me it is always on. Asked for another car, clean, not smelling like inside of a bar. He told me that is all they had. I could cancel and try someplace else, refunds take 7-10 business days. By this time I was late for a event, 20-30 people still standing waiting for their vehicles. As I tried to leave, the driveway was blocked with return vehicles, people just pulled up and got out leaving the in road. I rented a car in Camp Springs, MD beginning of January through the end of February. When I first rented the car the gentleman who waited on me was nice and professional. When I first rented the car the price was much lower, because it was online. After the first week, I kept the car, of course, the price was higher since I called it in on the phone. After the first month, I had to turn in the car. So, I went online to reserve the car again (new contract). When I arrived at the rental company, I closed out the car. When the lady representative checked the car, she said we have a problem. There is dog hair in the back and a weed smell in the car. I checked it and said, I do not smoke, and if don't see dog hair; she said it's light so it's hard to see. I told her the car was vacuumed out and cleaned before I brought it back to you. I was not satisfied and proceeded to ask for the manager. The manager said I will excuse this and let you keep the same rental. If the car comes back with the same smell you will be charged a fee. So, I kept the same car and rented it for another month, mind you the rate seemed to be getting higher each time I rented and tolls were added on to the charge. I finally turned in the car at 10:45 am, I got the same lady representative from before. She went to the car took pictures and said in the front driver's side, checked the speedometer and gas, and got out of the car. Then she proceeds to say we have a problem. I asked her what was the problem. She said there was a slight weed problem in the car, I said to her I don't smoke and no one was in the car. I do have a freshener in the that's what you are smelling. I told the representative to just close me out. I was charged $100.00 plus $37.00 in toll fees with a total of $147.00 that includes taxes. This is deducted from my $251.00 deposit. (NOT SATISFIED) I told her I disagreed and to give me the manager's phone number. She refused to give me the number to where the manager was working and called her. She got on the phone and said to the manager, remember when this customer dropped the car off before I smelled weed, and dog hair was in the back. Mind you, she was just supposed to let the manager know that a customer wanted to speak to her. I was highly upset and felt she was wrong. I told the manager that the representative in that office was unprofessional and I was not happy with the outcome. I also stated that I have rented from other places before and never had a problem. I told her I would never rent from them again. The manager ended by saying she would send someone else out to check the car. It is now 12:13 pm and I am still waiting on that call This do not recommend anyone going to this location until they hire employees that know how to provide good customer service to their clients. 23/100 I needed a rental because my poor Macy and I was involved in bad wreck. I was told by the collision department that it could take 3-4 weeks or longer for repairs. Enterprise was out of the question as they rank horrible in customer service in my book. I took a chance with Nextcar. From the moment I walked in I felt a good vibe. My rental though it wasn't as sporty as mine. It was a nice mid size sedan. The car was clean. I did a long sniff test and no traces of smoke or trees or herbs. It was vacuumed and detailed! Does that other place do that? Hell to the no! The whole process took like 15 minutes. The majority of the time was spent on showing me how the car works. I was never pressured to buy the optional insurance and other add ones like that other place. During the time I had the rental, I had one courtesy call and that was it. I was never hassled about my coverage or needing to put a bigger deposit down. I made sure I fueled up upon returning and vacuum the interior just in case. Checking out was less then five minutes. They really need to have more locations. They always have good deals on weekend or holiday rentals! read more

Rented a car for 1 day via Expedia. There were two workers a young lady and young man. The young lady has exceptional customer service but the young man was very rude. The process I went through to get the car was excessive, I thought they were going to tell me to squat and cough next. The price I was quoted and charged upon return were two different prices. Of course the young man checked me out. I bring it to the young ladies attention and she attempts to rectify it and calls her supervisor who allegedly is supposed to fix it. I thank her and leave. This business is a joke. They don't care about their customers. There are hidden fees, so be prepared to spend roughly double what your quoted. The offices are always filthy, the employees and management are rude, and the vehicles they give you are junk. They gave us a mini van with two front bald tires and it smelled and drove horribly. We got there at 4 and we sat around more than an hour waiting for them to help us. Then we were rushed because it was closing time so we were rushed through the inspection, otherwise we wouldn't have drove off the lot with bald tires. Then to top it off, they charged us a pet cleaning fee when there were never any pets in the vehicle. I sent them documents proving that our pets were boarded. I sent in a customer complaint with supporting documentation proving that there were no pets in the vehicle. And then over two weeks later, I received an email from Stacy saying that the request to refund the pet fee was denied. Then I spoke with Brenda who is the manager at the Camp Springs location and she said that she was going to go with whatever the managers decision was which was Jarrard who charged me the fee. She did not even look at my customer complaint and was not even concerned with my side of the story. She has horrible communication and customer service skills, as do all of the employees of this company. Then I asked to speak with Glenn Price who is apparently Brenda's boss, and he never returned my calls. And when I called and Stacy answered the phone, she would put me on hold for long periods of time and then come back and say Glenn price was not in the office. So they were totally avoiding me. Horrible customer service. The day that I returned the vehicle to the Camp Springs location (same location as pick up), it was early in the morning when the office had just opened and there was one customer in the office and absolutely nobody working in the office. The office was completely filthy with debris all over the floor and it smelled horrible. Shay was the one working that morning. When she finally came in the office and was helping the other customer and was headed outside with him, I asked her how long she was going to be and she rudely said she didn't know. She had an attitude from the beginning and she is the one that told her manager Jarrard that there was pet hair in the vehicle. She had an attitude and was looking for something to charge me. If was just me, I would have taken the sorry excuses to court, but my brother advised me not to because then he would have to miss work as he was a driver on the vehicle as well. And he just said that it wasn't worth it and just never to use them again. Run, don't walk from this place. read more

I thought I had a good experience, until the young lady called me outside to view a front end damage and flat tire. Me being me, I was confused as hell but I always purchase the insurance. I referenced I have insurance with your rental agreement, so, I am confused as to what you think I might owe. After she viewed the pictures of her walk around that was saved on her iPad, she referenced that the dent was a previous and not once did she offer an apology. Who does that? To me, you cannot hire everyone just because you are short handed and if so make sure that they are given extensive customer service training. In short, get the insurance, make sure there is no prior damage, and always stand your ground. My experience started off shady, and it ended with even more issues. We tried using Next Car in Puerto Rico, going through Priceline. We arrived at the location and waited an hour in line. When it was our turn, we were asked if we wanted to use their insurance. We said no, as we have full coverage plus the insurance through our credit card. He asked if our car is a 2018 or newer, when I said no, he said that we HAD to use their insurance, that it is in their policy. I told him that there is nothing on the website stating this. He said I didn't look hard enough. So I pulled it up and showed him that no where on their policy page does it say that our car at home had to be newer than 2018. He shrugged his shoulders and said it's policy. Full coverage is full coverage no matter the age of one's car, our deductible is only $250, they required $500. It more than doubled the cost of the rental we had agreed on through Priceline. We left without a car. Worst place ever! read more

They did have the car that we needed when literally no one else did but it was price gouging at its best. Then when we go to get the van they pull up some BS about our state issued MD license isn't acceptable. Don't waste your time. Trust me. Find somewhere else. They are ok. The people who work here are nice and friendly. They always have cars albeit not the fanciest or sometimes cleanest. I will also add most of the cars have a faint stale cigarette smell that drives me crazy then fades. read more

I have rented from this location several times and have always had a positive experience. The rates are more affordable than any other agency. Tje cars are great. The staff is always friendly and professional. Most recently, I rented sportscar for my son's prom. I have to give kudos to Shannon and Brenda who worked with me to make the experience a memorable one. I waited to the last minute to inquire about a car. At the time , none were available. Ms. Brenda contacted the customer to verify pickup then notified me when the client canceled the reservation . Shannon was very pleasant to work with. Both were very understanding when my son wanted to change cars and allowed us exchange the rental. Furthermore, Ms Brenda worked with us again in adding my husband to the contract after I left. Needless to say, it was pleasant experience and I recommend them highly. read more

I booked a rental from here last minute for Thanksgiving travel. Was half the price of other cars on the booking site. Pick up and drop off was just as fast or faster than airport counter. Ok so this place is good for people who have debit cards. With no hassle. That's the pro's. This location don't take pre paid cards, or debits w/o name on the card. Customer Service is terrible at times. So so at the other times. Wasn't told that the rental had to be back at the exact time it was rented. Uggggg, so they hit me with an extra day. I made a reservation they charged my credit card took an uber to location all for them to tell me we don't have any vehicles available. I made a reservation for today at 1p. I communicated with reservations that I would need to leave my car on the lot and would assume responsibility for any damage. Fast forward to finishing paperwork and I'm informed that I cannot leave my car on the lot. I informed the customer service agent to cancel my ticket, which he said he could not. He then said it would take 2-3 business days which I communicated was unacceptable. I then speak with Area Manager Brenda Marshall who quite frankly presented very disconnected, aloof even. I shared with her that my money should not have actually been debited because it had not been authorized to do so. It appears this happens quite a bit with this location as everyone had a very routine response. While I was waiting, one lady attempted to pay an overdue car with a prepaid card which she could not do. She then left with the actual car. The staff merely watched her walk away and didn't even attempt to ask about her retry time. I then left and have turned that part over to my bank. I called Ms Marshall back to voice my concerns, to which she cut me off and stated "well I know you've gotta get to Richmond by 5..." which clearly indicated that she wanted to stop talking. I told her I seemed to be holding her up. Word of caution: force them to give you an actual printout prior to swiping your cats. They will say they cannot so make them show you the screen. Word of advice for the company: include specific limitations of each location on the website. Word of advice for upper management: host monthly trainings. If an area manager is that disconnected, can you imagine how front line staff function? read more

Terrible customer service - has trouble finding/handling your online reservation, answers the phone constantly as they are waiting on you, complains that you returned the car "dirty", has no after hours drop off, does not ask how your car rental experience was, charges exorbitant unfairly prorated rates for returning the auto a little late, has no place to park your car on the lot while you rent their auto, does not properly maintain vehicles they rent (e.g., "oil change required" light on), etc. Avoid this place. read more

I have no clue why this Nextcar rental location has negative reviews. I walked in looking for a same day rental and was provided with several options by a very nice lady at the counter. After letting them know my preference they asked for basic information in order to process the rental agreement. I had no car insurance so they were very nice in contacting my major credit card for zero deductible (free) collision insurance covered by the credit card. Walked out fairly quick, and was on the road with the rental car. Service was quick, thorough, and professional. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. read more

We made an online reservation through carrental.com for a 12 passenger van for a trip to Upstate New York. Nextcar sent over an email confirmation. A week and a half later (and two days before the van was supposed to be picked up) we get a phone call from the Suitland Nextcar telling us that there was a "glitch in the system" and the van is unavailable. When I called back to talk to them, they advised me that since it was from an outside source, there was a glitch in the system. I asked her how long it took for the outside source to get the reservation information over to them. She said "a matter of minutes". So why, I asked, did you not cancel this reservation a week and a half ago when I could have gotten a van elsewhere instead of waiting until two days prior to cancel when there are no vans available anywhere around here?!? Again...I was simply told that there was a glitch in the system. If you need a rental car, steer clear of this place! I will NEVER do business here again! read more

My husband and I rented a car from NextCar for our mini family vacation. Making the online reservation went well, which is about the only thing. When we got there to pick the vehicle up, they did not have the vehicle that we requested eventhough our reservation was made a week in advance. But hey we just had to settle. They drove the truck out to us for the inspection and it was extremely dirty, inside and out (old food under the seats, unwrapped candy in the arm rest, etc). It smelled like feet, dog and cigarettes (and I'm not saying this as a nonsmoker either). So we asked the represenative why the truck was dirty and he just said because they did not have a chance to clean it....?????? Huh??? On the way back from our trip, the truck was shaking and barely stopping in traffic because the brake were so bad. But nevertheless, we made it safely home. The next morning when we went to return the vehicle, another representative did the vehicle inspection and told my husband that we would have to pay a $100 cleaning fee....???? WHAT??? I think not! So we explained to him that we told the other rep that the car was filthy when we picked it up and that the brakes were going out and he still wanted to charge us for the cleaning.
