I would like to note, however, that one in particular **Happiest Baby on the Block** was one of the best classes we took to prepare for our bundle of joy. Not only did it help us get through the endless nights of crying, but it provided us a way to stay calm and use strategies to help the little one relax. I even had a difficult time dress myself or even putting on my shoes. Yes, all simple tasks were nearly impossible! I went to urgent care, the chiropractor, a spine specialist, and even tried PT at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab with little to no relief. I heard about aqua therapy and ask my doctor to investigate it with me. I found Rush PT at Morraine Valley. Religiously I went 3-days a week. It was AMAZING. Things I could NOT do on land I could accomplish in the water. Eventually, we moved our therapy program to land with great success. Sarah my therapist recommended dried needling to help relieve my pain. I was reluctant at first but she assured me it was safe and effective. SURPRISE.... I was able to get off all my pain meds. (I was on 3 different types 3 times a day). It was like the spasms and pain stopped misbehaving. My pain was gone! My movement restored! Today, I am following the exercise program that Sarah has laid out for me and try to swim at least 2-days a week. I am back to my old self, med-free, pain-free, and happy to be moving again! Athletico in Western Springs in an exceptional place for physical therapy. I have had two ankle…read morefusions and now am currently rehabbing a knee I just underwent surgery for to have 4 benign cysts removed and I was also bone on bone and had stem cells injected. All the staff is very friendly and courteous as well as knowledgeable. But I cannot say enough about Jim Matela. I have rehabbed with Jim through all my surgeries and after both ankle fusions I was able to get back to my normal activities of working out 4-5 times a week (weight lifting, elliptical, cardio kickboxing, indoor/outdoor vball, etc) without any pain or discomfort. I'm now currently 3 weeks post knee surgery and halfway along in my recovery and know there is no way I would be so far along without working with Jim and rehabbing. Jim truly has an understanding of how the whole body is connected and interacts making for full body recovery. Many PT places I have been to in the past (and there have been many since overall I have had 6 ankle surgeries and a labral hip repair) would only focus on the injured area and go through a very rinse and repeat approach with everyone. This not only made recovery time lag, it hindered recovery. By Jim focusing on everything that is also connected to the injured area recovery time has been accelerated and I've made a full recovery each time and my expectations were exceeded for what I was capable of doing again as far as my activities. I cannot recommend Jim enough, he is outstanding in his knowledge and approach.
