Mr Howell and Pumpkin and all the food delivery people were so friendly and nice. The Rapid Emergency Response Team were on the ball as well. Great people. God Bless all of you for taking care of me. Not please with the corporal office, I have a love one whose in critical condition and traveling an…read more1 or 2 hours away after work daily only to be told on certain days I guess when he works I can not sleep in the ICU lobby he will escort me out and handling me a brochure to go somewhere else after midnight is ridiculous. Not once have the doctors or nurses said anything when I make it clear I will be out in the lobby all night. When other families stayed over night nothing been said to them nor myself only when my family here alone. I will say the the doctors and nurses has been excellent with my love one care.

I came in with worsening symptoms that I knew were not normal. Despite clearly communicating how my condition was progressing, I felt as though I was being medically gaslit. Because my lab values, MRIs, and echocardiograms appeared "normal," my very real and escalating symptoms were repeatedly minimized and ultimately labeled as psychosomatic. What made this even more troubling was the apparent bias I experienced due to my mental health history. I was open about having bipolar disorder, yet instead of being treated with thoughtful, comprehensive care, it felt like my concerns were filtered through that diagnosis--used as a reason to discredit rather than to better support me. When I expressed serious concerns about continuing my pregnancy--considering both my physical health and mental well-being, as well as the safety of my child--I was not met with compassion or proactive care. Instead, I was essentially told that I would need to "stick it out" for several more weeks, or wait until my condition, specifically preeclampsia, became severe enough to warrant intervention. Being told, in so many words, that I would only be taken seriously once my health took a dangerous turn is unacceptable. No patient should feel like they have to get sicker to be believed. Healthcare is supposed to be built on trust, listening, and early intervention--not dismissal and delay. I hope this review serves as a wake-up call to examine how patients--especially those with mental health histories--are treated when they advocate for themselves. I deserved to be heard. I deserved better care.

My husband was a patient at Duke Medical Center 2018 -2020 for liver disease-He was very sick ,and…read moredeveloped malnutrition ,but only scheduled to see his Dr there a Hepatologist,every six months - -Which was way too long between visits we felt as sick as he was-Later in his illness it was changed to Three months-During this time he started bleeding rectally and after further tests was found to have a recital ulcer-The bleeding continued ,and he was told by a radiologist at Duke following scan and x rays for this that he needed to see a surgeon-His Dr at Duke -Dr Carl Berg scheduled him a surgical visit, but it was scheduled weeks away-In the meantime ,he was getting worse ,and by the time he finally was close to seeing the surgeon ,it was too late -He never made it to the surgeons office-He became sicker at home-I had to call 911 as he developed very high fever during the night - He was admitted to our local hospital-& had infection in his blood-He had developed osteomyelitis (infection in his pelvis bone) and sepsis , in his blood-From the rectal ulcer found months and months before-He died a few weeks later at home under hospice care-I cannot help but think the Dr at Duke who was treating him is responsible for this in some way by not taking care of this early on! Drs at Duke Med are very capable, but have extremely too many patients and don't see them often enough to even know them-I'll never go back there -Just my opinion -We went there to have the best care ,but we never got it-

I asked for a pillow or blanket and the nurse at the front desk told me that there were not enough pillows in the back for the patients already in the facility. On multiple occasions I asked where we were in the queue as I was watching people that came in well after us get in? The triage nurses and the front desk staff need to show a bit of compassion. It was easier to take him back home and call an ambulance. That is sad.
