This last time I was here was when I was a teenager, which was a long time ago, lol.... I had a coupon for buy one get one, so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out on Saturday December 30, 2023. The staff were very helpful, and explained the process, of the free wall climb, and the the complexity of different levels and courses. We both enjoyed ourselves, but sadly were sore the next day. We brought our two nephews here and they had a blast! This was inexpensive fun on a rainy Sunday afternoon, and they climbed for several hours which got all of their energy out. The facilities were clean, and staff friendly- while I did not try and climbing myself, the rock walls seemed to range in variety and complexity which should keep all ages entertained. Would definitely come back and do it again, we even saw them changing some of the designs and holds so the climbs are constantly evolving. read more

This is fun place to go for climbing , specially during winter time when you wanna do some inside activities. Lots of kids are there so I guess it is a good place for kids to play. It just getting really crowded and after an hour there is nothing else to do. I wish they had some other activities to make the place more fun or at least good music :) the staff are really nice and friendly. They patiently teach you how to do it. This place is really fun! I was here recently because my little brother had his 13th birthday party. I've also been with a few friends. I don't do much rock climbing so I don't know too much about it all but I do know I've always had a great time here! And it's only $15 to climb for the day. It's a good idea for a party or a group- much more fun that way than just two people. I would definitely have at least 4 so you have someone to climb next to. If there's only 2 of you then you have to take turns pulling each other. There is a little party room you can rent out, it's simple with tables and chairs, you bring your own cake and food. At first I thought the place seemed small but after just a few climbs my arms were starting to get tired! The staff gives you a run down on what to do and how to strap in and hold the cables and all that. He explained pretty quickly, he obviously does it 50 times a day, so it took us a minute to get it but it's not too hard and he answered any questions. It would have been nice to have some tips on how to actually climb, it definitely is a skill. Everyone is pretty friendly though so we just asked some people who looked like they knew what they were doing. It's clean and nice, nothing too fancy but perfect for what you're there for. There's bathrooms and a water fountain and they'll hold your belongings behind the counter for you. I am new to climbing and this has been a great place to learn, staff and members are helpful and friendly.

My 5 year old daughter loves coming here to primarily boulder. She can't wait till she can join the kid climb group ( I think the age range starts at 7). All of the staff has been really helpful and very friendly. I've never experienced a staff member or other members that were rude, or telling my daughter what to do, and we have been there multiple times. read more

We have memberships to this place and have brought our kids here for birthday parties. Over COVID Is when we got our memberships. Our children are pretty active and risk takers. The younger staff can be very rude and micromanaging. Sometimes even the other climbers like to tell us or our kids what to do and how to do it, who appear to be friends of the these staff. It doesn't feel helpful. It is kind of off putting. I like the older staff (women) they are lovely, I think they are the owners. We are considering canceling our membership because we are tired of the constant criticism. The kids definitely groan when they see certain employees. It is unfortunate because we really like this place otherwise. read more

I have to say I'm probably more than a little spoiled going to the climbing gym in my area back in Texas, but this place is flat out unsafe and really strange. The "auto belay system" they have in place is just some Grigris bolted to the floor and a two minute tutorial by the staff that no sane person would ever use at any other gym. You would fail a belay test doing what they told you to do. No instruction about keeping your hand in the braking position after taking up slack. Thank God the walls here are so short it's not that far of a drop. All of the "top rope" walls are actually slightly taller bouldering walls. Very complex and difficult. If you can even figure out where the routes are. They are not very clearly marked. Only a couple beginners could even try. I brought my friend, who's a local and she had fun. That's pretty much the only nice thing I can say. The price is cheap because this place is small and the walls are poorly made. I hope my friend comes to visit in the winter so I can bring her to a good climbing gym. *Update* After receiving feedback from the General Manager I'm going to say I stand by my original review. If you can't take criticism about sacrificing safety for saving money on equipment feel free to just keep quiet instead of insisting I'm the one with the problem. read more

I came to the climbing center 5yrs ago when I was visiting Buffalo and was an avid climber back in NJ. I am not a fan of the auto belay system this gym uses and I believe in every climber learning how to belay manually. This is safer. I visited this gym again after I moved back to Buffalo and was thoroughly disappointed when none of the holds and climbs had been updated in 4yrs. This is not a sign of a good rock gym. They should be updated monthly. read more

Had such a cool experience here today!! First off, I haven't rock-climbed in about eight years and at that point I had only done it once. So i was definitely a newbie. We started the afternoon by paying 15 bucks per person for a full day (not bad at all!!) The experience was definitely a bit intimidating at first-there were a lot of people there (and I'd be lying if I said my anxiety level didn't skyrocket when I first walked through the door!!!) However, the staff were super friendly and made me feel a lot better about being new and inexperienced. Because it was our first time, we had to fill out a waiver using an impressive, high-tech, I-pad station. After that I was ready to climb!!! Our instructor, Cody, was very helpful and first showed my friend and I how to fit into our harnesses. He then walked us over to the rappelle and showed us how to properly hold the ropes while the climber was ascending and descending and how to attach the carabiner. My first couple of climbs went really well-I decided to try a couple of the more challenging walls and could definitely notice the difference after a couple of minutes of trying to find smaller, less supportive "rocks" and "grooves" . My friend and I were admiring the moves of a really experienced climber and started a chat with him when he was done. He commented on how he likes to use the colored stickers attached to the patterned rocks to find different routes. Seemed way over my head-maybe if I build my expertise I'll be able to take my skills to that level! I really enjoyed my experience here, staff were awesome, lots of different walls to choose from, lots of different levels to experience. Two thumbs up to a great time!! read more

Small place compared to some of the big ones I've been to, in the past. But it still is a blessing to have something like this here in Buffalo. The staff is nice and are helpful when you need some tips and pointers. Despite being a small place, it has a number of climbs and options - wall climbs with harness, bouldering, grip work etc. It's a fun place to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to do some active recovery from the regular gym routine. $12 for the day for bouldering plus $4 for shoe rental (if you do not have a pair). Just climbed here tonight. I'm coming from larger 50 ft walks with a 100 plus routes so no comparing the two. It's entertaining for what it is. Seems like a great spot to take teens on a friends night out with the family. It's setup to be geared towards moms and their kids to run up and down the walls. Walls are only 20 ft high so those who fear heights don't need to worry. You can nearly Boulder to the top with little difficulty if you have experience climbing outdoors. George who seems to run the place was really welcoming and the regulars seem to all chat with him. If you're more use to a normal climbing gym where you belay off your harness be prepared to feel a bit awkward while belaying your first few routes. Everything in real casual with no formal belay tests and ALL techniques allowed with the gri gri 2's that r anchored to the ground. That and the steel carabiners to "tie in" with, your in for a change. All in all good experience with a much chiller climbers vibe here. read more

Wonderful place, I've been bouldering here for a year and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed, making it great for new boulderers and top rope rock climbers. There is definitely a lot of challenge available, with the most interesting problems being v7s or harder. The walls are constantly being changed, so there is always a new set of problems to try, but old walls stay up long enough for you to grind your teeth on any problems that are sticky for you. The setters each have a different style, and it's fun to feel out the creative flavor each brings to the gym. Everyone I've brought here has really enjoyed the experience, between the ages of 13 to 30. Just be respectful of the staff and the other patrons and you will be treated in kind. Remember, they're just volunteers trying to support climbing in their community, and a great group of people to climb with. 5/5 A really great place to develop your hobby anywhere from beginners to intermediate climbers. read more

If you're expecting fancy top of the line place this isn't the place, but the good news is that this is the only local climbing center around. $15 bucks gets you in for unlimited climbing. If you've never been there before they walk you threw the ropes and how tos and then let you do your own thing. A lot of fun and a different way to get exercise in. I just moved here from Kansas City, and received a five punch pass, and student membership as gifts for this gym. Unfortunately, I barely used my membership and don't plan on using all of my punches. This has to be one of the worst climbing gyms I've ever been to. They do not teach people how to properly belay, which doesn't even matter because their walls aren't tall enough for a decent top rope climb. This gym is not set up for proper belay certification and has the ropes tied to the floor. They may be using safety locking belay devices, for the sake of ease, but they should be teaching people how to properly belay. I mean, some of those new climbers may actually be interested in pursuing climbing. Everyone just has carabiners clipping them onto their harnesses, not a single person in this gym is taught any kind of knot to properly tie in for belaying. On the idea of safety their ropes seem to be in pretty poor condition, just another hit against their safety standards. The walls are flat! They are varying angles, but there is no texture to the walls, unless you are bouldering. If you are a serious climber the only thing you can really do here is boulder, and even then the routes are set poorly. Maybe, I've just been spoiled by incredible gyms staffed with nice people, who don't talk down to new climbers (as most of my friends are, as they're joining me to try something new), but this gym has a lot of work to do before it will receive my business again. They do have a place for you to put your bags and a changing room, so you don't have to walk around in chalky work out clothes. read more

They remodeled since I was last here 2 years ago. And boy did they mess it up. They removed all the interesting bouldering areas and any interesting top rope area. They basically made their gym slabs of wood. Mostly vertical and some at an angle. There is a dedicated center area just for bouldering where everything is at a slight angle, but not enough crash pads for all the places you can boulder. All the "top rope" areas have bouldering as well. In fact, the only routes/problems they have are for bouldering and they aren't graded. There's just tape leading you somewhere with terrible holds (would spin when touched) in some places. Could be a V0 you're sending, could be a V5. If you want to do top roping, good luck.The belay system is terrible. No one who learned belaying from that gym could ever pass a belay test at another gym. It's anchored to the floor with a carabiner on the climber. No knots are taught. No style of belaying is taught. People aren't told to stay in brake position at all. Saw a lot of people crashing to the floor when I was there. They don't tell people gym rules when people come in. So just watch out for people wandering right underneath you during your climbs or taking away the crashmat from you while you're still on the wall. Could be that I'm spoiled by my gyms (Brooklyn Boulders & The Cliffs); but if I were someone who was just brought here to see what climbing was like I'd never do it again. Seems like they just made it a place for parents to bring young kids to work off some excess energy. It would explain their belaying style and the simplistic nature of their walls. Serious climbers look elsewhere. read more

I recently became interested in climbing. I am not experienced at all. I found this place online. The climbing was good. The staff and service was UNPROFESSIONAL, to the point where as good as it was I will not go back. I had a Groupon for a 2 for 1 deal, it was expired but I was told on the phone that there was no expiration date and they would still honor the promotional 2 for 1 value. The RUDE employee, believe his name was George, told me I couldn't use it, that's fine but there is no excuse to talk down to me, and roll your eyes. Then he asked a few questions related to climbing, using terms I've never heard and not being a climber would know! He was VERY NASTY AND SNIPPY. I asked if I could put my keys somewhere... And his responses were short and very condescending . He tossed a harness at me and expected me to know how to put it on, even though I told him I have never climbed before. I felt like an outsider the entire time, like I was invading their "climbing clubhouse". Majority of the staff was not helpful at all!!!! I will not be coming back !!! read more

NCC has undergone a huge remodel and is now a great place to boulder. The remodel created awesome bouldering surface area and they have been getting tons of new holds in. I used to climb here because it was the only place in town to climb. Now I go here because it's a great bouldering gym. It's a small gym but they are now doing the most with their limited space. They installed new central air conditioning and heating too. A campus board and new flooring is expected in the near future. I never rope climb here. The top-rope walls are 20 feet tall and don't have set routes. They will not teach you how to properly belay so don't come expecting to learn real rope techniques. There is no lead climbing. Bottom line: no frills gym with good bouldering that will make you strong. read more

No reviews?? That's probably because the majority of people who come here are members of the center. That doesn't mean you can't go! This place is great when you want to change up your exercise routine, try something you've never done before, or just have some fun aside from the bar scene. Watch the times you choose to go though as it can be quite crowded and let's face it - you have the patience of a 5 yr. old. It usually fills up later in the evening between 5-8pm during the weekdays. I've often found going on the weekend mid-to late afternoon works best. The staff is very helpful and super friendly! Its $15 for a day pass but if you're a student - bring your ID and get the rate at $12. There are also group rates so you'll sometimes run into large parties there. Kids are also welcome but this is a challenging activity so I wouldn't recommend anyone under 10. The center has over 30 "stations" which provide different levels of difficulty and course. Heck you can even rent your own portable wall and have a party in your yard. So even if you don't think you have what it takes to rock climb, give yourself a challenge and check this place out and stop complaining that there's "never anything to do in this city!" read more

This place is the worst. The routes are not rated, which makes even having routes pointless. I tried to boulder, and it was pointless because I have only climbed V.2s, and could not tell what what would be easier for me climb. As for the routes themselves, they are put together completely thoughtlessly. I saw one today with a handhold at the bottom of the ground, so there were absolutely no footholds. Also, the routes basically lead to nowhere. There will be maybe two holds near each other, and the next hold will be across the wall. The walls are only twenty feet high, and the way they make climbers belay is ridiculous. If you want to actually get into climbing, this is not a good place to go. They don't even show you how to make a figure eight knot (they don't use them anyway). All of the knots are already tied, and the belayer is not even harnessed into the rope. Lowering the climber is completely ridiculous, as you have to maneuver your hands all over the place. The actual climber is held in by a carabiner, and not the rope. They use gri gris which is a terrible idea, and the person teaching me today told me that if you let go of the gri gri, it's okay. They are actually banned from the wall at my school because people are more careless with them, so I can't believe an actual climbing gym forces climbers to use them. I'm pretty sure whoever opened this place does not climb. read more
