We had to bring our 16.5 year old cat to the vet, suffering from kidney failure. The receptionist, technicians and physician were all amazing. They listened, they were professional, friendly and highly professional. We were triaged to see the doctor at the right time based on other clients. They did the appropriate tests and explained everything in a way that non-clinicians could understand. Above all else, when we had to make the decision to euthanize our beloved family member, they were extremely compassionate and assisted us in saying good-bye in a dignified way. We had to rush are senior dog to the clinic with a weeping and heavily infected leg joint. It was busy night so there was a wait time but far less of one than would be expected in a human hospital. Staff was amazing in their care for Kara even before the dr had a chance to see her. The examination plan flow chart detailing what steps should be taken and was laid out with absolute max efficiency and lowest possibly cost. (I work in health care) it took most of the night but Kara was finally treated and sent home with a comprehensive treatment plan. Not only that but the clinic proactively sent their character my family vet and they later cleaned and returned the blanket we'd brought Kara in on. The attention to and care show for even the minute non medical details related to our case was phenomenal And I have never seen such smooth and efficient follow up. Human healthcare wishes they were that good. Needless to say I was a little surpised by the range in reviews. And while I don't think the following explains all of them, I think it explains some. Based on the reactions from staff I got the impression that many of their clients do not understand a lot of the underlying realities and limitations of healthcare Never mind those involved in EMERGENCY healthcare. staff was visibly startled that we already understood the sheer amount of additional trauma and damage done to the body doing resuscitation. they were also visibly shocked and surprised that we understood the practicalities and risks associated with all forms of sedation, including twilight. So you end up with a lot of people commenting who don't Know or understand how emergency medicine works. yes, sometimes they can perform a miracle but more often than not miracles are in short supply but the team does their best to produce them anyway. Then there's the guy frantic beyond rationality. Been there. Done that. From previous experiences in another city with a different pet I can confirm that sitting with your pet, your dependent, while they scream in pain and confusion for hours while looking at you with desperate eyes makes people more than a little bit frantic and crazy. each cry and wimped are like a lash to your soul and it doesn't matter how much everyone is doing to move matters along, it is beyond devastating to have to wait toll a dr is available. I do not think clients in that state are particularly sane or rational. I certainly wasn't. I don't blame or criticism them for it in the least. But I do think their reviews aren't the most useful. of all the pet owners I spoke to, only one had a bad experience here and she admits it was a loooooong looooong time ago and the doctor in question no longer works there. I think if you review the reviewed with that in mind it might help get a more accurate read. On a personal note, thank you. I came here about 2 years ago when there was a pet emergency. My dog was snooping (as dogs do) and ate something she shouldn't have. We rushed to this emergency hospital to get her tummy pumped. The prices are up there, no doubt. That's when you have to make executive decisions as to whether or not your wallet can handle the blow. Nonetheless, they were super friendly and helpful. I just have to say you really failed us this time. My baby girl did not need to suffer for as long as she did. I dont know how an emerg has only 1 vet and staff that can not help a dog be out of pain while she waits for euthanasia. I didnt ask for miracles I asked to end her suffering. she suffered for to long. Just anyone needing emergency care for your babies make sure you have a huge list of emergencies and drive on the highway because when you call to get them ready for you you may just end up like us with a big fat no we can not help you under no circumstances go somewhere else. (really where?). 3 hrs of suffering and she finally got into an emerg in burlington. who was very compassionate and very quick once we got there. I just have to say when you have the false security that this emergency clinic is here in an emergency. Dont kid yourself. They really failed my baby girl.Which in return has created a lot of me feeling Like I failed her by believing in them. I can not get the awful images out of my mind. This is not the normal loss of a pet (that pain is horrid enough) I knew she was 15 and time was getting less i was preparing for that. I didnt prepare to be refused when she needed them most. In the past I would not be saying this but as of the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024 I can honestly give the emerg clinic 5 stars. I had been there twice for my senior dog at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024. Vestibular disease once and the same the second time and they were kind, helpful and reasonably priced compared to my regular vet (seriously). Each time I was in the vets I had were incredibly kind and didn't push anything unnecessary on me. did we wait a while? yes. Is that reasonable at an emerg? yes. They were more compassionate and kind compared to my regular vet. While a few years ago I would have felt differently I can say I am grateful to them for the help and kindness they provided from front desk staff, vet techs and vets. read more

I had to bring my fur-niece in after she shredded her doggy diaper and ingested pieces. I called once with no answer, started driving to the clinic any way and called again on the way. On my second call Ashley was kind and helpful. She asked a number of questions, checked with the doctor, and was able to provide me with options and the cost over the phone. Upon arrival our doggo was weighed, I completed some intake for vomiting. then waited for the doctor. Dr. Claire Redman attended, she asked a number of questions to understand the situation and explained what they would do in order to induce vomiting and made sure to see if I had any questions. They performed what they explained and were able to remove the piece that was ingested before it got any further. Dr. Redman came back and had a follow up conversation to explain what they did and even apologized for the wait (they had an emergency that needed immediate attention which is completely understandable). Overall I was very pleased with my experience and grateful that the staff here sacrifice a regular sleep and life schedule so they can be available at 3:00 am. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! My friend had an absolute terrible experience when she brought her dog here. The vet didn't clean the wound and left her dog with blood and feces all over him. They treated the dog like garbage and no pet or owner deserves to be put through this horrible experience at already such a tough time in their life. Then she called in to try and speak to a manager to explain her experience and was told a manager won't be in until a week later and to send an email and they "may" reply back. if I could give zero stars I would . Our 6 year old dog started vomiting one evening after our vets office was closed .We immediately put him in the car. A bit of background we provided to the emerg on the phone on our way was that had been having gastric issues for a few months . He had undergone ultrasounds blood work xrays etc and was not eating . Our family vet had exhausted all tests and referred us to Toronto and Guelph . He was to go to Toronto the next Tuesday to see an internist . He had lost some weight . They informed us they only had one vet and he was in surgery go to Hamilton . He was vomiting quite extensively and his gums were a bit pale . We went to Thorold emerg anyway and they still turned us away saying he could make it to Hamilton no problem . We called Hamilton emerg on our way and they said don't come go to Burlington . Burlington said don't come go to Oakville Mississauga . They said yes please come as quick as you can . Around Grimsby on the QEW our sweet boy started to vomit blood . It was quite a significant amount and he was crying and looking at us terrified . Sadly he passed away shortly after reaching Mississauga. We did not get to say goodbye he was terrified and in pain. I will never forget his face that night or the Thorold clinic turning us away . Shame on you ! It is possible he would have passed away anyway from whatever had been going on with him but it could have been more peaceful and merciful . Shame Shame on you Niagara Veterinary Emerg . My Doberman, Bane, had ingested something foreign and it caused an obstruction. He was vomiting blood and I rushed him to my usual vet in Morriston, whom is amazing but unfortunately was out of town and didn't do overnight procedures. I was then referred to the Niagara Veterinary emergency hospital and away I went to bring him. I can't tell you how incredible the staff here was. Every vet, nurse, intake worker that took Banes case when shifts changed were so genuine and really put Banes needs first. After hydrating him for the night he was scheduled for surgery Tuesday morning (March 14, 2023). Dr Shepard started her shift that morning and had taken over Banes care. After prepping him for surgery, she had a last minute want to do ONE more x ray to see if the object had moved any farther down to his colon with all of the hydration they'd given him before just going to surgery. Thank god she wanted this done. The object had moved significantly and she halted surgery. She wanted to give him more time to pass it on his own and he did!!! Not only did she save my fur baby from a tough surgery, pain and discomfort, she also saved me 6500$!! (As well as the fear of losing him on the table)!!! I was also updated every couple of hours with how he was doing. SO comforting in one of the most stressful situations I've ever dealt with on my own. Trusting a new vet with your fur baby is so tough. And in an emergency it is completely out of your hands, but I would 110% take either of my pups back to this facility (god forbid something like this ever happens again). This place exists for one reason: it's opened 24 hours. The vet said she would call to let me know how my dog is doing during the weekend she stayed there. No call. I had to make the call to see if she's alright. They also prescribed medication that was never explained to me. After transferring my pet to a clinic in the GTA, the vet at the other clinic sighed at what they prescribed her. This clinic will refer you to Mississauga Oakville Animal Hospital. Avoid this one too. Money money money is all they care about. Never again will I go back there. read more

I'm not sure what the other reviewer was expecting. This is like a hospital, not a general practice. For me, when I had an emergency in the middle of the night I was relieved to be able to come here. The place is clean, staff is competent and professional. The fees are high, yes, because it's an emergency clinic. They aren't focused on long term care. They're focused on managing emergencies. My cat was well cared for, doctor and vet tech both took time with me for explaining everything. Hopefully I'll never have to return but if I do I'll feel confident that my animals and me will be cared for properly. read more

This place treats animals extremely poorly and unethically. My friend brought her dog here and gave her dog back with feces and blood all over the dogs bottom even though he has an open wound and said he probably won't make it past two years (if that). The vet provided no compassion or empathy towards her dog or her. ANY healthcare professional, including a vet, should know that having feces in one's wound will lead to direct infection. Not only will feces in a wound cause infection, but it can also cause many more complications such as irritation, inflammation and blistering. I mean even not being a health care professional, you would think that's common sense. They didn't even bother to wipe it off. She then asked for a napkin and they forgot. They then handed her the $400 bill. Overall, a very traumatic experience for my friend and I will ensure that none of my family or friends even take their animals there. read more

Terrible place for your pet to go and die. The vet there was rude and abrasive with no bedside manner- "dr" randal should not be trusted around people or animals. She cares nothing for the animals, only for money. I should say that the staff were good and the other young man vet there were excellent, polite and gracious.
