At least I'm not dumb enough to do that! It's been over a week, and I do not have my money refunded. Trying to contact them to no avail. Trying to have VRBO help me. Now I have to file a dispute with my credit card company. I have since looked at numerous bad reviews about Smart Stays, including some BBB open cases. While on our trip to Toronto, my husband and I decided to spend a night in Niagara Falls. Because…read moreit was a long weekend, hotel rates in the area were very expensive -- the cheapest rates for even the most basic accommodations were $250+ and run-of-the-mill chains that are normally under $200 were over $300 a night! Not wanting to spend $300, we decided to stay at a "crappy" hotel at a cheaper, but inflated, price. Despite the price, which was at a premium due to the long weekend (it was over three times the regular rate and was more expensive than what we were paying at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto), and the photos which did not impress us, we chose the Victoria Motor Inn because it was close to everything and there were no red flags in the reviews. The Victoria Motor Inn is NOT a five star hotel, but it was a five star experience for me. While the hotel (technically a motel) was no frills and looked rundown simply due to age (it was built in the 70s), I actually had the best sleep I have had in a hotel in a very long time because the room was cool, quiet, and dark. (See my reviews for Executive Suites Hotel & Resort in Squamish, Days Inn by Wyndham in Cranbrook, the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, and my upcoming review for the Moxy in Louisville, KY.) The air conditioning was great (and the bedding wasn't the overly thick "luxurious" bedding that makes you sweat), there weren't any flashing lights or light seeping into the room, and despite being fully booked, I did not hear a peep (I was surprised that I didn't hear any drunken louts or people blasting their TV from the next room). In addition to meeting the basic requirements for a good night's sleep (which no other hotel can seem to manage), the room was spotless. It wasn't pretty, but it was VERY clean. The Victoria Motor Inn is also in a great location -- close to everything, but far away enough from all the noise and chaos of Clifton Hill. One last thing that sealed the deal for a five star review was the lovely chat I had with Rose, the employee manning the desk when we checked out. Rose asked me how my stay was, and I told her my honest opinion -- that I had a great stay and would stay again. She said she would appreciate it I left a review (which I was going to do anyway), as it would really help them out -- they are a small, family run business (Rose's father opened the motel back in the 1970s), and there have been struggles due to Covid and larger, more modern hotels with better amenities opening up. I would definitely not hesitate to stay at the Victoria Motor Inn again. While it doesn't look like much, it's clean, comfortable, (usually) inexpensive, and in a great location. Also, the upper lock of the room is damaged that anyone can use the finger to push the lock aside to unlock the door, no need to use the key to unlock the door. Plus, this is the 1st hotel/motel that has no microwave nor fridge in the room.

We arrived quite late, after midnight, and we had no problem punching the code in and quickly getting to bed. In the morning we found fresh coffee and a carton of fresh half-n-half in the refrigerator for us. "Tourist Lodging in the Heart of Niagara Falls" is situated in the perfect location. You can easily walk to the falls and all of the attractions, which will save you a lot of money because parking is very expensive and hard to find, plus all of the hotels charge you per day to park..."Tourist Lodging in the Heart of Niagara Falls" has parking on-site and it is free. Head to the grocery store and purchase what you need for a bbq dinner as the yard/garden is beautiful with patio furniture and a gas grill for your use. Mark and Monica are the owners and they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. They made us feel like we were family visiting. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch admiring the Niagara Falls river directly across the street and talking and laughing with Mark and Monica!!!! Myself, partner, and a couple friends booked a driver to visit a few wineries in Niagara. We…read moredecided we didn't want to rely on Ubers and ensured everyone could enjoy themselves without the pressure of driving. We had a small dog with us, which they said was no problem. :) Booking was extremely easy and quick. We booked literally the day before, so they were very accommodating. Our driver was Malik and he was extremely polite, patient, and kind. The vehicle was a Honda, nothing fancy, but cozy enough! Would absolutely book again.
