I came to Niche on a whim. I was having a bad day; a bad week really. Personal and professional-wise. I was just tired of shitty people and I wanted to go to a place that felt good. I just don't think I expected what I got. Upon entering, I was received by a small very warm and beautifully lit bar that simply felt special. I looked over the available wine and asked the gentleman at the corner seat if the seat next to him was taken. Little did I know that the gracious gentleman who kindly offered me the seat was none other than the proprietor of Niche, Mr. Ted Powell and that's when my night really started as Ted graciously regaled me with amazing stories between the pause on the songs played by the band. What a vibrant spirit this man has. If you go here, you have to meet Ted. From telling me about how he acquired the place, his daughter, Budstock, Maverick Rose Music Hour, and sharing details of each nights events at Niche, he made my first visit (just me myself and I) a beautiful one. He couldn't stop talking about how wonderful a mixologist Andy is. Don't get it twisted. This man is more than a bartender. He's a diplomatic mixologist who knows how to let patrons know, in the most respectful but boundary maintaining way, how to behave. I saw him in action and it was a beautiful thing to see him basically offer up a dose of kindness with a dash of "you better check yourself before you wreck yourself." If a place could be described by one word, Niche's word would be KINDNESS. I felt like I was taken care of. Thank you Ted and Andy for being so kind on my first visit and turning my night around. I look forward to future visits. This place is most definitely a must visit when in North Carolina! read more

We love stopping by here on our occasional date nights and really enjoy the large selection of wines, the live music, and eclectic decor. This is coming from a native Californian who goes to Napa and Sonoma often (back when we lived in the Bay Area) and have traveled to most of the well-known (and not-so-well-known) wine regions in the world. Anthony can come off as gruff at first, but he's is knowledgeable about wines and just doesn't put up with bullshit. Since we usually prefer to sit inside, we've witnessed him having to deal with a lot of drunk and/or unreasonable folks who either don't want to follow NC state liquor laws or acted like they probably should've been cut off hours earlier. We recently brought my best friend from out of town there and he loved the experience and wants to go back the next time he visits. It's my first time here... Thursday night, Jazz night! This place is fabulous! It's very warm and welcoming. This is what you call a No judgement, hang out at home kind of vibe. The people were all very down to earth. It's Pet-friendly here so you never know who you're going to meet. We were fortunate to meet Bud! He loves the ladies. They have a bucket of dog treats at the bar for the fur babies. The entertainment was great. We enjoyed 2 different females on the mic with beautiful voices. Drinks: you name it! Note -- there is no drink menu. They have a very large selection of wine, beer, and liquor... take your pick. There isn't any food served here either. I absolutely adore this quaint wine bar! They do serve beer as well, for those that don't drink wine. Monday is half price bottle night and everything they offer is super reasonably priced! Food trucks often come in on Mondays as well and you are welcome to bring in the food while you have your beverage. The intimate atmosphere is very welcoming. This converted old house into a wine bar is the perfect combination of feeling like you are at home with friends lounging on the couch or sitting on the back deck, to feeling like a posh atmosphere. The bartenders are truly knowledgeable about the wine and 9/10 times you can try before you buy... no one wants to get stuck with a wine you have to choke down because you paid for it! They have some new Barman there who does not know much about wine.. I ordered a bottle of Can Blau blend. When he opened the bottle the cork disintegrated and 40% of the wine was missing. He then tried to BS that this was normal (he said it's called "wine seepage" and happens all the time), when poured the color was milky and taste was corked. He then claimed it was fine and would not open another bottle or refund! Bizzare, the owner was there but must have been very drunk or some other issue as he could not communicate normally. So...We left...many other places now on the HS strip to choose from, thank goodness! read more

Service was ok and the place is cozy. No view in the back and all of the furniture were wet from the rain. No one bothered to bring in the cushions or dry them up after. I wasn't offered a menu so I don't know if they have cheese board options so I was surprised to walk by a refrigerator with good cheeses. First time in. Had heard tons about Anthony and he did not disappoint! Ordered a fancy martini and he immediately told us what kind of bar we were in and where we could go for mixed drinks. Had a very bizarre experience here, new bar tender is terrible. Have always had a reasonable experience at Niche, and found some decent wine. This new guy does not know anything about wine and gets impatient if asked about recommendations which is the only way to get a glass of wine at Niche. Dealing with him for about 30 seconds was all it took to realize it was a waste of my time and money, so we left . Went on to an amazing evening elsewhere in Holly Springs, with great service! First and last time visit. My husband and I politely asked about their information collection practices for their "membership" to enter the bar. Doorman accused my husband of being an asshole. We waited 15 min for bartender's attention who asked us to leave when we told him of our experience with doorman. Negatives: Too smoker friendly, front door Ash trays and smokers as you walk in, same with the back porch. Impossible to avoid it. Wine we were offered was pricey. $37 for 3 glasses of wine before tip. We will ask next time for other options. The back porch could be awesome if they would expand, upgrade it and take care of the lawn. What a great opportunity to be an awesome outdoor area, that alone would keep us coming back. Best bathrooms in the town of Holly Springs. Let's be real; I judge places based on toilet time first and foremost. Sure, they have a huge wine list. Good for them. Beers and cocktails; cool, but what's the bathroom like? Do you have a fancy sink and an automatic paper towel dispenser? What kind of toilet tissue do you have? This isn't Acme or Sears, this is Niche and they don't rough your butthole with that Scott's single ply or AngelSoft gas station garbage. I pooped so good. Then I got impregnated by the bartender, which was very unexpected because I'm a dude and didn't know dudes could get pregnant. Bartender was so rude and hasn't even paid a dime in child support. I don't care that the baby hasn't been born yet, I expect compensation for carrying his child. Bea Arthur would never treat a patron this way. I'll be returning, but only because I like the wine, atmosphere and staff; also because I forgot to pay my tab last night and my credit card is on file. I'm not a Holly Springs resident, so I am not predisposed to offer up a sugary review in hopes that more businesses will flock to the non-downtown district that is Holly Springs. Now, the thrust of this place is that the Sommelier is supposed to be guiding you on a fun and adventurous wine tour in hopes of pairing you with the best wine. That is fine, but it also means that you have to engage with the staff in pretty great detail on the minutia of wine pairings and flavors. I get that it's their job and part of the product, but for me, it was not the most enjoyable part. They also don't list prices of their selections which immediately puts me and the Sommelier in a sales situation where I have no control. Not my thing. That said, they have fun live music, a neat 90s coffee-house vibe, and some good beer. I don't think I'd return, but that is more on me than Niche. Disappointed in the bartender's way of dealing with miscommunication. I drink only red wine, I asked for a cab--he poured a white wine. I went to this bar and I asked the bar tender to make me an old fashioned with eagle rare as that was available. He said he wouldn't do it . Just cause he wouldn't . I am Hispanic and I'm confident it was racist thing . Funny thing is that I probably make about 5 times more than the bar tender and I served 5 tours of duty in Iraq and afghanistan . My girlfriends and I had a late Galentines Day and we decided to try this place out, after hearing all of the Holly Spring regulars rave and rant about this establishment. Super dark, nice ambience, which is the first reason why I have it only one star. There was pretty much no one there. Chose a spot and then changed our mind so we moved to the couches. Decided to get a glass before the rest of the girls arrived. 2 of us approached the bar and the "Sommelier" was there. Very dry, asked us what we wanted. Said , not sure it's our first time here, I like a Sauvignon Blanc and my friend liked a Red like a Pinot Nior. He said "typical" and then grabbed us "samples" to try based on our liking. Which, were actually off the mark, so we just decided to choose something after being badgered with a very arrogant guy who I guess was the son of the establishment. Already off to a bad start buddy. We chose them but he didn't tell us the price, there's no menu, so your "literally going into the dark" with what you're spending, hence the ambiance . We decided to take advantage of the food truck outside which had way better service and the second reason why I have it 1 star. After 2 glasses and having been entertained by the guy there singing, we were done. A group of us went to celebrate a friends birthday and unfortunately the bartender Anthony was very rude. He made snide comments about the way we described our wine preferences. Then he got even more rude when we didn't like the first wine he poured. After just agreeing to whatever he poured he overcharged us $75 for four glasses of wine, one a 6 ounce. He was rude and angry, and we will never go back. Even after one of us went up to try to reconcile the issue the more belligerent he became. He ruined our entire experience and our night. read more
