Our cabin was beautiful and perfect for two people. We spent a lot of our evenings at the little community hammock area, which is a touch I now believe all campsites should have. I loved the location because we were 10 minutes from the salmon run boat launch where you can kayak under a bridge and find a waterfall around the bend. We were about 20 minutes away from Fayetteville where you can find amazing food and activities. I highly recommend the Wood Iron Eatery for breakfast and the Long Point Grille for lunch.

This area is known for the lake and for boating and outdoor recreation, so I understand that coming during a colder time probably put a slight damper on everything that should be taken with a grain of salt if you're reading this review. When we arrived there was no one in the office. It felt closed off and unattended. I wasn't able to go up into the lighthouse at all, which was super disappointing because for me it was the main draw. From the outside, the lighthouse was lovely to look at but I was really really hoping to be able to climb to the top. The rest of the grounds looked fine and this is definitely a place designed for overnight stays. I would definitely return but during the right season and when I am able to explore the lighthouse!

We knew our stay would be rustic and were actually pleasantly surprised it was nice. Just a few issues during the stay. When we checked in there was no power which is fine however the girl did not explain anything but hand us a map. We got to site and didnt know how to get in the door. the beds were super uncomfortable in cozy cabins, we did not get much sleep. The outlets could have been spread out throughout the cabin as well to make it more efficient. We loved the location being able to walk to serenity point and down to the lake, however the signage was confusing on how to find the beach. (we ended up going to Battle Run). The store hours should be extended, 6pm seems a little early to close down. I think we will stay here again if there is a lakefront cabin available and we rent a golf cart. Make sure vehicle can go up and down steep gravel hills if staying in yurt or cabin bring mattress pad or something cushiony

Having grown up around here, she gave me the inside scoop on where to go (and where not to). When you only have a limited time to spend somewhere, you want to maximize enjoyment, so avoiding places that weren't worth it was as valuable as recommendations for not-to-be-missed places. To be fair, there were very few she didn't recommend, but I appreciated her transparency when I asked. The park is clean, well-maintained, and under new ownership that holds high standards. Office building has a gift shop with a few sundries, Coke products vending machine, firewood and an ice machine. Close to lots of shopping, fast food, and there's a DELICIOUS restaurant right across the road -- you can literally just walk over, and they have great hours. Also central to the lake, the New River Gorge Bridge, and countless other natural attractions like Cathedral Falls and historic sites like Carnifex Ferry National Battlefield Park. And you're just a mile away from Mountaineer RV dealership with a service bay and campground store, in case you have issues. Highly recommended!

It was my absolute favorite trip down the river so far. We had the pleasure of rafting with Corbin. He was AMAZING. Not only did he have us laughing and kept us safe, but he TRULY embodies the raft guide personality. Like I said, I've been down this river 5 times now - I thought I had witnessed all of the fun things there were to do on the river rafting, but I was so incredibly wrong. I haven't laughed that hard in such a long time & the pictures from ACE show how amazing the experience really was. After this past weekend, I won't raft with anyone but ACE & will request Corbin for future trips. ACE is keeping the spirit of rafting as it should be. Rafting. Fun. Adventurous. Great job ACE & great job Corbin! He is truly an asset to your team.

A great way to tire the kids out in the middle of a roaa trip?

What a great way to spend a summer day. This is a rafting review, we only came up for the day, but…read morewe are already talking about next year and doing a two day visit and double our rafting fun. We picked the Lower New River, a full day adventure. We kicked off a little bit before 9 and had a quick equipment assignment and then climbed aboard a well seasoned bus. Its a bus and it served its purpose. During the ride we got a basic but funny safety briefing. You can tell these guys love their job and enjoy making life fun. After about a 25 minute ride, we arrived at the departure spot and got assigned a raft. We are a family of 4 so they assigned two more people to our raft and our guide, Jackson was phenomenal! Seriously, Jackson is so chill and personable, we could have just hung out and listened to his adventures in life. He did a really great job making everyone feel welcomed, valued and appreciated. For me, I know I would have been barking rules at our novice tubers, but he just gave specific instructions on what to expect, what to do if the 'in case' happens, and provided assurance that he would protect everyone. He also provided fun little facts about the river and history of the Gorge. We saw class II to class IV rapids and there were some intense moments. It took me a couple rapids to figure out that Jackson would strategically place our boat in the best part of the rapids for maximum effect, which made this ride so memorable. Despite sometimes facing a wall of water, we always felt in control and hearing Jackson hooting and hollering like a kid gave the assurance and reminder that this is 100% fun adrenaline. The river water was cool and refreshing, not shockingly cold in July and the levels were high so we had a good time. We did stop half way down for a lunch which consisted of either meat/cheese sandwiches or PB sandwiches, potato salad, a pasta salad, watermelon, chips & salsa, and a desert. It was good and sustained everyone. The second half of the day the river was even better than the first half. At the end, we got picked up by the bus with an even shorter ride back to AOTG. They provided a couple coolers of ice cold water, soda, and gatorade for the ride back. Once back we showered, changed and checked out the photos of our trip. This was an 11 out of 10 experience for my family and like I said, we are already planning on coming back for a 2 day trip.

Partly because there were no four seasons in the area (mostly joking) but also because we were in WeSt vIrGiNiA and wanted to get in touch with NaTuRe we decided to go outside of our cocmfort zone and picked some closer to nature options. This was the second. We went with Kaymoor at Adventures on the Gorge. Thjey have the full scale between literal camping and hotel-like, I believe we chose the most hotel-like option. I wanted to do the glamping but there were none available about a month before our trip when I finally got my shit together to book shit. Check in was super easy. We were given a key and a treasure map of how to get to our "cabin" which was easy to drive to. It is a legit cabin in the woods but will all amenities one would expect staying in the a hotel. Great bathroom and shower with a ton of towels, bedroom and separate lounge room that included a mini fridge. TV, wifi, climate control. There was even a cute little porch with chairs in the literal woods. It is so cool. AC worked great. The shower was great. They provided more towels than I'm used to getting at hotels. The bed was SUPER COMFY. I literally don't have enough good things to say about this place. Such a good choice.
