Watch the weekly ads and this is my go to for the best meat with the best prices (when on sale). They do all their own in house butchering which is fantastic. I can go in and have steaks cut to my preference while I wait. You can also call in your special orders. Everything else in the store is usually really over priced as it is a small local store. Store was nice and tidy, nice selection and very local but aside from the usual price markups for the price of convenience, when I went and was checking out at the register, this young girl didn't even greet me or say have a good day or anything at all during the transaction. Just rang my stuff up and off I went. My gf had come along too and she was the one who was irritated that the girl didn't acknowledge her when my gf was being polite and said have a good day. They are okay if you're out off that one thing. I wouldn't suggest just going there shopping. Their prices on most of the items are a 1/3 more than anywhere else. Example a jar of pickled beets are $8 where for the same size jar anywhere else is $3. But like I say if you're close to the store and you need only one thing. read more

I love Nichols! I seem to find myself there at least once a week. They have great meat deals, lovely produce, and a solid selection. There is even a smattering of international ingredients, and a darn respectable beer selection. Nichols prepared foods have been really good! I bought a beef pot pie here and it was unexpectedly the best pot pie I have ever had. Their cookies and bread are excellent too. All of the staff are friendly, as are the other shoppers. Parking is easy-going there is plenty between the street and the lot. I wish Nichols was more wide spread as this little grocery store is a gem! read more

We love this grocery store! They have such a neat collection of items and things you can't necessarily find at Wegs. We enjoy getting side salads from their deli, their sandwiches are yummy, and they have a really nice size craft beer selection. So many things to love about this place and so many things to hate. Let's start with the good stuff. It's local and the staff are friendly. Great place to grab what you need quickly decent beer selection (just check the dates). They make their own turkey and roast beef in the deli Now some cons. If only this were a bigger grocery market... the one principal qualm I have against Nichols is that it often smells of trash upon entering. They have a trash compactor near the entrance. I believe the smell wafts inwards. Sometimes it's nearing unbearable. Smells aside, for such a small market, they offer quite an ample selection. While seafood is ultra limited, the meat selection is better than Wegmans as is the quality. It's a shame they got rid of whole butchery. I've been longing for beef cheeks and beef rope and various other cuts. The deli is nice... produce is mostly fresh although upstate New York in generaloften carries rotten avocados. At the premium placed on them here, they need to toss the mushy ones let alone those which have nearly turned liquid. Staff is kind. Prices are reasonable. read more

Decided to take a little day trip into the village of Liverpool, my main reason was to visit Nichols. I had heard such good things about the small town grocery store, and it was a lovely day to finally make the ride down there. First off the town is very cool and quaint, surrounded by suburbia but you've never know it as you walk down the quiet streets in the inner village. First off, my first impression of this market is it's a throwback to my childhood.Nothing madness fancy, just a really nice selection. As I was exploring around a manager actually came up and asked if he could help me. I let him know I was just meandering about, checking out the store for the first time and he actually engage me in conversation asking me what made me decide to come in. I told him I had heard good things and I was particularly interested in picking up some pork belly, he let me know where it was and asked me if there was anything else he could do for me.I told him no, thank you, I was just exploring the store and then on my way. I went to the deli counter and was excited they had boars head cold cuts which is what I grew up with on Long Island.I picked up some baloney, and some olive loaf! LOL laugh but it was a favorite of mine growing up. And if you haven't tried it it's delicious. Anyway I digress. I went to find the pork belly, and could not find it so I asked another manager and he pointed it out to me but it was a much larger cut then I really needed.He said no problem, he went and got somebody from the butcher department and they cut it straight to order for me. Talk about great customer service! Prices are extremely reasonable store is clean, Stathis friendly. What more can you ask for. I will definitely be back! read more

I love Nichol's and want to give it 5 stars but I've now had multiple bad experiences with meat I bought there. First was rather expensive beef I was going to smoke 3 days after I bought it. Best by date was 6 days out, so I was disappointed that it was gray and rancid when I went to smoke it well before the date listed. Next time was worse - bought chicken thighs that had a use by date a week out. I was going to marinate and cook it up for Mother's Day in the AM but 2 pieces under the label were green and smelled terrible. Place is great, but make sure you aren't buying last weeks meat with this weeks sticker. read more

While I may be a Wegman's kind of a guy most of the time. Any time I go to the village and have a need for groceries, I try to come to Nichol's. I really enjoy the fact that they have such good deals on their meat selection. I also really like the fact that they are family owned and operated still. Another perk that I enjoy, is that this has always been one of the only places I can find Mountain Dew: Live Wire. I know that may sound really silly, but I really love that drink! Nobody really sells it around here. They have a great hot food selection, a great line up of produce, and really solid staff. I highly recommend coming here when you can. read more

This is a great little grocery store, and I am always impressed with the prices. My husband is a fan of their meat selection, and we prefer this store over Wegmans, which is outrageously overpriced. Their deli sandwiches are tasty and cheap. The store is a little run down in some areas (i.e.: front entrance) and the back area with the seafood/meat sometimes has a strange smell to it. The cashiers (minus one!... I avoid her line) are extremely nice and I have never waited more than 5 minutes to be cashed out. Overall, this is our favorite grocery store and where we do a majority of our shopping! read more

Pros: Family run business with a real old-fashioned atmosphere. It's like walking into the store your grandparents shopped in... and probably still do. The prices on meats are insanely low. They have butchers on duty ready to cut to order. A couple times a year they have a meat sale and you'd better buy a second freezer because you're going to need it. Clean, good deals. Helpful friendly staff. They are willing to try products other stores won't carry. The other night there was a snowstorm warning and I overheard the managers discussing closing early for their staffs safety. I know others stores that wouldn't care. We were shopping in a Walmart just prior to stopping in Nichols one night. Nichols had more registers going!! When it gets busy you'll see the entire staff drop everything and have managers bagging groceries and running registers until they clear those lines! It's truly a blessing to have this store nearby. read more

This is really a great store. The amount of inventory they carry is incredible for the size of this place. The last time I was there I counted and they had 21 different kinds of Trisquits! I didn't even know they made that many kinds. Because they have real butchers here, you 'll find cuts of meat other stores don't have. I see veal breasts there which I hadn't seen in 20 years. They have some good deals but a lot of the stuff here is expensive but it has to be for them to carry such a selection so I understand. A lot of Italian imported items and hard to find stuff. This little grocery store has the best customer service that I have ever seen in the Syracuse area. Someone is always available for assistance, they always bag the groceries (instead of the customer bagging, like all other grocery stores in the area), and they always offer to bring your groceries out to your car. This type of service in unheard of in 2018. I also really like that a shoppers club card is not needed, they don't ask you for your email address, etc. I can just shop anonymously! Small, family-owned, locally oriented Village grocery-store. It is well priced, friendly and for its size has everything that anyone could generally want or need. Because they belong to a buying consortium together with other small, family-owned grocery stores from Liverpool to as far as Constantia, they can provide amazing quality goods, local meats and produce at very very reasonable prices and actually complete with all the big guys. Do they cost more than walmart? Of course they do, but the last thing I want in the middle of my Village is walmart. Here are a couple of things to consider: when you consider Nichols vs walmart. With the price of gas to go all the way to walmart, you actually save money by shopping at Nichols. You also support your local community in deep and profound ways. The owners of Nichols pay all their employees fairly, do give benefits, and you can shop with confidence knowing that everyone who is there is making a living, and you are getting a really great quality product. And, if they don't carry something that you want, just drop a word to one of their managers, or the owner himself, and let them know how much of it you think you will buy per week or month, and they will stock it. Really. They are amazing. Remember that they are family-owned and fair employers, so that's where their money goes. I have seen them over time upgrade and renovate here and there where they can. I personally can't wait for an overhaul to new wood laminate floors and a market feel produce section, but I figure they will get to it someday. They have special shopping discount days for Seniors and you will find kids raising money, or veterans being remembered or just about anything you would want to see in a local village happening right outside their doors as you go in. Staff is excellent, even employing no tipping baggers and help outside. Finally, they have been singled out as the best local grocery store for many many years. So, they may not have absolutely everything, but they are attentive to requests. For my money, I always go to Nichols first. As a member of this community, I shudder to think what it would be like without them. Don't take them for granted, support your local businesses. read more

Love this grocery store, I just love it! Not huge and spectacular like Weggies, it is bright, fairly clean, and easily navigated. There is a rack near the deli with reduced-price produce, and you do take your chances. But I just can't resist a bargain, and where else do you find that kind of thing any more?? Across from the deli counter is a cold counter with store made sandwiches and wraps of every type, sometimes a package of cheap cold-cut ends (!), pieces of barbequed or baked chicken, lovely white strips of cooked chicken breast, salads, many little containers of prepared food to heat up at home. Nichols pizzas are very good, you can buy a medium or large rectangular pizza plain, with sausage, with spinach and red bell pepper, take home and bake a few minutes. The crust is not thin, but it's light and crunchy with an excellent taste. Nichols also sells lo in the cheese and butter aisle store made loaves of sausage or pepperoni bread, large or small, to finish in the oven at home. There are single bottles of exotic beers, an awesome meat counter with excellent meats, from a single chicken breast to a honkin' big roast beef to serve 50. At the end of the freezer aisle - a rack of reduced-rate breads and pastries - score!!!! There are lots of locally made items, different Italian pastas and sauces, nice selection of baked goods including gluten-free, wonderful little round cakes (red velvet, birthday type basic, snickers bar, carrot), and equally good pies - and oddball items you don't find often. The people are very friendly, you don't wait long to be checked out. I just LOVE Nichols and hope it stays in business forever. read more

Nichols is one of the best small mom & pop independent groceries around. If you remember and miss the late, lamented Sweetheart and William's Supermarkets, you can still get that old-fashioned feel here. Prices are reasonable and you do not need your shopping history monitored with a 'club card' to get sale items. Things are generally easy to find, and if they aren't, staff is usually around to ask. Store is clean, and they have got, hands-down, some of the best meats around. Fantastic store, I probably shop there at least 5 times a month. read more

Second time in the store, got a few weird stares from employees, esp manager Steve. Meat counter was great and friendly. Had trouble finding somethings in the store, management was doing a end of shift walk-through, noone asked if I needed anything as I wondered through the store pass them a few times. I had an issue with a promotion, Steve was very rude as he said "nothing is debatable here" and turned his back on me and my son as we waited for a clear response. I was calm but eager to leave after this embarrassing encounter. Owner Mike, was just as rude and condescending as Steve. I worked retail plenty of years as a manager and I know customers are wrong at times. I was asking for clarification and got nothing from either one. Steve got an escort to his car as if i was going to assault him and Mike acted as if I was a nuisance when I just asked a simple question and stated my concern. Food quality great, Mike and Steve very unprofessional. I can go to Wegmans, just thought I would support your LOCAL GROCER, guess the black dollar isn't welcome at Nichols. Not calling them racist, well maybe a little of that mixed with sheer lack of disrespect, just my perception. read more

Last fall I bought 3 lbs. sausage to take on a trip. It was specially priced. When I went to cook it, all that it did was keep emitting water and steam. It would not brown and fell apart. The special price was probably due to the extra water added to increase the weight. The same visit I purchased 3 -5oz sticks of Citterio dried sausage which priced out at $16.00 per lb. The sign was deceiving and I promptly returned them. All other stores sell this brand at $8.99 to $9.99 PER LB. This made IGA's price almost double of other stores. Their meat also leaves a lot to be desired. They don't label the grade of meat and I believe it is US Select or lower. Some one told me to always have the butcher cut your meat and look at both sides,as they tend to always have the lousy side down. After this experience I sent them an email from my trip expressing my dissatisfaction and requested a reply. Guess what? NO REPLY! I only return to that store when they have leader items and I buy nothing else. read more
