There's a black male thats in his late 20s maybe mid 30s thats always has an attitude and thats rude and never has a smile on his face. The workers are very friendly and helpful. The grocery items are priced fairly and there are some nice niche items that I can't always find close to home. I decided to try their sub and some baked goods since everyone raves about them. The sub was good but it didn't blow me away. I think if the roast beef was a little better quality it would have been great. The baked goods were decent but again they did not wow me. Ordered burgers and things from the prepared foods , stood there for close to 10 minutes before we were acknowledged, the person who took our order was not friendly and refused to write down any thing other than the item , I ordered with out onions , had onions on it bc he wouldn't write it down , I told him twice, we wanted hot sauce on the chicken , he refused to write it down , no sauce , the food was not the usual good quality from green hills , we waited for forty minutes and our food didn't seem fresh . It's not the first time lately we've waited so long , had crappy service and wrong, poorly made food , we keep saying we're not ording again but then we try again , I think this will be our last time . The meats and fresh seafood are better than anywhere in the area that I've tried over the past 6+ years, highly recommended by foodies I know, and I know that it's prime by the flavor! For a local smallish grocery it stocks a vast array of items - it also features local produce, and carries an amazing variety of BBQ sauces and unique salsas, the likes of which I haven't seen anywhere else in upstate NY! Green Hills Farms is a local grocery store that's been in Syracuse for eons. It's rare to see an independent grocer these days, so that fact in itself is worth the visit. A little bit of a drive, but worth the trek. As you pull into the parking lot, a massive cow on the roof greats you. The interior decor is similarly striking. The baked good section is centered around a giant fake tree. I like to imagine this means that all the cakes and cookies are grown, not baked, and thus contain way fewer calories. Hearing legend of the store's epic cider donuts, I had my sights set on this classic fall treat. Unfortunately, when I arrived I found that all the donuts were in a pick-your-own cabinet, and in these times, I'm just too squeamish to count on the hygiene and common courtesy of my fellow human beings. This was a major bummer. There was a sign that you could call ahead 24 hours to request pre-packaged donuts 24 hours in advance, but I didn't see this notice on the website when I looked before coming. Was hoping that there would be a couple of packs of cider donuts on the pre-packaged table, since they're such a major draw, but no dice. Quickly pivoted and selected other Autumn goodies instead: pumpkin walnut cookies and apple cider cinnamon bread. The cookies were super soft, more like muffin tops really, than cookies, but I was all about it. The bread was sweet and fragrant and put me in the fall spirit. Worth noting that there's an admirable craft beer section, and lots of other areas of the market I didn't get a chance to explore. Cashiers and staff were very pleasant. This place definitely deserves the community's continued support! read more

Really need a zero rating. I did a poor review for this store about 10 months ago and never went back there. My son decided to go there. He ordered me a chicken salad wrap. It was horrific, the potato chips was soggy and some stale. Look at the pickles in the photo. It look like someone chewed and sucked the juice out of them. What a waste of a sale. read more

I am only reviewing the lunch I had here. I ordered the panini of the day, which was a tuna melt. First of all it was huge and only cost 7.49. It took me two days to eat. It came with home made kettle chips which were delicious as well. I also noticed they had a 2 slice of pizza and a soda deal there for 5 bucks, which nowadays is super cheap. They also had stuffed pizza or as some call it lunas that looked phenomenal. If you are in the area this is a great place for a inexpensive, tasty lunch. read more

After spending my adult life shopping at Wal Mart, Tops, Price Chopper, etc. there's something refreshing about going to an independently owned place that makes you feel like a human being. I'll admit I do still frequent the bigger chains for stock shopping, but I do so knowing I'll be cursing out loud on my drive home. This place is out of the way for most of us, so when I do come out I usually hit the Aldi down the road for the stock items. For regular name brand items, this store doesn't compete in terms of price and selection. What keeps me driving out here is the selection and quality in produce, meat, and bakery items. I try to get here early for the best selection in donuts and bagels, as they're among the best I've tried in the area. Their produce is always fresh, and they have the best quality and selection of meat. I've never ordered prepared food that I didn't like. They make great burgers and sandwiches. Their pizza and wings are average at best, I'd recommend going elsewhere for that. I'll always go for the meatballs or the mac and cheese if they have any ready to go. It's a decent roll of the dice if you're looking for something you can't find in other stores. You have to go there on Thursday at 4pm and try their fish dinner. I usually don't like fried fish, especially haddock. However, this fish was so fresh it was like it was from the water that Jesus walked on and fried to perfection. You get 2 sides with it as well. The potato wedges were delicious and seasoned nicely. In 1925 on Rte 80, Carrie Hawkins sold vegetables on the road next to the family dairy farm. Her little stand was so successful that the family was encouraged to plant more crops and open a stand on the busier route 11 just down the road. Her son, Clifford, had the stand built in 1934 and it was named by Clifford's wife, Gladys, who looked out of her kitchen window one day at the hills surrounding the family farm and declared that the little business should be called the Green Hills Farm Stand. After a barn fire in 1949, they decided to sell the dairy farm and get into the grocery business instead. It is one of only 3 independent grocery stores left in the city, and by going here, you're supporting small, local business. Despite it's claim to be the "best little grocery store in America", many people seem to avoid Green Hills because of it's location on the city's south side, but I'm here to tell you, Green Hills is worth the trip. While it's not as nice as a Wegmans, Green Hills makes up for it with their selection. You'll find a lot of things here that you won't find at other, bigger grocery stores, smaller specialty brands and local favorites as well. Their produce and meat departments are always well stocked, and their bakery is amazing. Some of their breads and desserts are second to none in the city. They also have a pretty good deli, one of the few places in the city that sells select Boar's Head meats. Their customer service can be so-so, depending on who you deal with, but that can be said about any place. I find their prices to be pretty comparable to bigger chains, especially if you have their Green Hills card. I'd recommend a trip to anyone in the area, and the best little grocery store in America just might make you a regular! read more

I support our local grocery store as my family and I have for over 60 years but after today I am Sorry to say I Will no longer . I placed an order for a dish dinner . After waiting in the store for an hour and 30 minutes I complains to the manager who apologized and then the 2nd manager laughed at me and said he checked the time I called and it was just over an hour I had to Wait not the full 2 hours . My fish was served to me cold despite numerous pieces of fish being brought up and placed for sale in the hot foods sold by the pound. Customer service catered only to the frequent fliers there and it was quite obvious. Blatant in fact. The fish as I stated was cold and also social distancing was not being recognized as people stood waiting for their dinners. We are in the middle of a pandemic and had my elderly mother-in-law not wanted this dinner I would have left . My mother in law through the coleslaw away before I could take a photo. read more

I have been shopping at Greenhills in the valley , where we purchased our first home in 2003. We moved to another, newest house in 2008 in Lafayette and continue to shop there once or twice a week. Their bakery is absolutely the best that I've seen in the Syracuse area. I only buy meat there when I know I will be cooking with it in a day or two, because I have noticed it goes bad quickly. The produce is good, although it doesn't compare to the Wegmans in DeWitt, so that if I know I am buying meat and produce I will make the longer trip there. The staff at Greenhills are courteous and friendly. It's a nice little place to shop when I am time constrained as there are no grocery stores in the Lafayette/ Tully area. read more

Green Hills is a great grocery store. Thank you to the management team for enforcing the mask mandate, protecting your co -workers and customers. It is the right thing to do and all retail establishments should follow your lead. Now for all of the good things to talk about. The deli and the seafood department are amazing! I called an order into Rich for shrimp and their store made crab cakes with romoulade sauce. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and made a beautiful presents on our table. The crab cakes and sauce are so delicious, there is not a high enough number to give them. Over the years, the meat department has always provided their USD choice meats. For special events we request special cuts. They never miss! The baked goods have a multiple county wide reputation. When we tell people we live near Green Hills, they say tell me about their baked goods. Even though I am a senior senior citizen Heather always treats me with a smile and a cookie. This place is fantastic! It's like if your local small grocery store and Whole Foods has a baby. They have so much stuff in their location! It's pretty shocking too because it's not exactly a large place. They have groceries, a bakery, an eatery, and even a bank! The food is super good too. I absolutely love their sandwiches! On top of that, their soups are so good. I shocked my wife when I said their chicken noodle soup was even better than the mighty Wegman's. Their bakery has some great stuff too. They recently were featured online for their amazing half moon cookies. After I read that article I flew to this place and they didn't disappoint at all! I have driven by this store for years and never stopped in. My mistake. While the store layout is a bit quirky, once you figure it out, you find they have a wide selection of foods, rivaling the big chain stores, with very reasonable prices. The bakery has a large selection of fresh baked goods. The meat selection is very good, the deli has Avery wide variety of meats, salads and prepared meals. My very first job was as a bagger at Green Hills, and even then, I realized its value to the community. The store curates its products the way a museum curated art -- the items that are selected are thoughtful and varied but do not overwhelm you with too many options. They've done some of the work. They take pride in what they sell! The beer selection is great with a mixture of interesting craft beers and major brands. There's often a deal beer too. And finally -- the deli and the bakery. If you've had GH donuts then you know exactly what I'm talking about; they're so good that I have friends that will get angry at me if I visit without them. And the deli has a pizza and wings combination that is affordable and delicious. If you're a fried fish fan then order ahead on Friday and skip the crazy line. The sides are all choice. read more

If you love a pork roast this is for you, sandwiches or steam a slice or two for a quick dinner. They truly try to support local farms (their beginning) for fresh produce and dairy, think Hudson eggs and Byrne dairy milk, yogurts and butter. I love Green Hills. My family used to shop here when I was a kid, but as the price of everything is getting more expensive, I have returned to "The Best Little Grocery Store in America", home of the Black Angus beef. Green Hills is a smaller store that has a very impressive collection of eclectic brands that you find in the "gourmet" grocery stores. They have very fresh, local farm produce. Their bakery section is among the very best around. Their deli makes terrific fried chicken and other home-cooked dinners during the week. They have a great selection of deli salads that you won't find at many other places, and the prices are great. I literally get twice as many bags of food for the same price as I would pay at Wegmans. Now, I always go to Green Hills first, and save Wegmans for any fill ins. The only down side to Green Hills is their seafood section, which is OK, but you can't stock tons of everything when you are a small store and still be profitable. Seafood, of course, is very perishable. But they always have very affordable cooked whole lobsters, terrific shrimp salad, and so much more. read more
