We visited Nick and Sons for the first time but it will not be the last. This store is a fashionista's dream for outer wear. Leather and Fur coats and jackets in every color and style you can imagine. The gentleman that helped us was amazing. He took one look at my husband and handed him a jacket that fit him perfectly! In fact, my husband told him what size he wanted and the professional explained that it was too big for him and why. He went on to explain that based on my husband's broad shoulders, arm length and waist size. The size he was asking for would not do him justice And he was 100% correct. I told him I wanted a red leather jacket and he took one look at me and handed me a jacket that fit me like it was made with my exact measurements. I have been looking for a new leather coat and have been having a strangely difficult time finding one in NYC. The ones I was finding were either incredibly over priced, way too small, or made from cheap "pleather." I'm someone who needs to try a jacket on first, so ordering online was out. I was on the verge of giving up when I remembered the leather shops on Orchard Street. A quick Yelp search turned up Nick & Son and the reviews were great so I decided to head down. It was such a wonderful experience! After being in the shop for about a minute, the gentleman who was working there looked at me and said "how about a nice black leather jacket" and proceeded to pull down a jacket that was EXACTLY what I was looking for and that fit me perfectly. Being a larger bodied person, I usually have to make due with jackets that are a little bulkier or don't fit quite right but this jacket is beautifully slim fit and looks like it was made for me. It was kind of magical! He checked the fit, showed me how to care for the jacket, and I was back out the door maybe 10 minutes later. This shop is STUFFED full of beautiful coats (truly, there are an astronomical number of coats in this small space), the customer service is incredible and the pricing seemed fair to me for the quality. In all my 30 years--and as long as this site's been active--I've only ever used Yelp as a point of reference, I never once thought to create an account to review anything or anyone. In all my years in NYC, all the businesses I've shopped at, all the restaurants I've frequented, pubs, hotels, movie theaters and basically any type of "Yelp-able" entity, I never thought to do it once, until yesterday when I visited Nick & Son. I spent all of last week dealing with some buffoon from a leather shop in Ashbury Park, NJ looking for a reasonably priced Schott 626 Leather Moto Jacket, he offered me the jacket at a ridiculously low price on a Thursday and by Sunday when I went to retrieve the jacket all the way in Ashbury Park, NJ from NYC, the loser claims he never offered me the price he did, even though I had an e-mail from him stating the price he offered me. He called me crazy, basically lured me in and then tried to hucklebuck me into paying him more, EVEN AFTER HE GAVE HIS WORD! I told him to screw off and begrudgingly made my way back to NYC. I called my dad and he mentioned that I should check out this shop in the Lower East Side of Manhattan called Nick & Son, and you know what? Before I even stepped inside, these gentlemen saw me walking up to the store front without knowing I was an intended shopper and very genuinely said hello and struck up conversation--hardly anyone in NYC even dares look a stranger in the face, let alone say hello to one and strike up conversation. Immediately I knew I was in the right place, it felt like home. These men were the most helpful, classiest individuals I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. They listened to my story about the jerk from Ashbury Park, and joked that I should have shopped locally anyways, and I'm so glad I did put my money into a locally owned family business. They had the Schott 626, in my size and you wouldn't believe how reasonable the prices were and how eager they were to help put me into this dream jacket of mine. Hell, Nick even threw me a Lifetime Warranty for any treatments/repairs this jacket may need in the future, how AMAZING is that?!?! Not only do I recommend this as a business, but I commend these individuals for their fierce customer service and loyalty. And this is no slight to the wonderful people of New Jersey, but that other jerk can stay corny and keep Ashbury Park because this amazing city of New York belongs to Nick and Son's!!!! They are so amazing I took it upon myself to create a Yelp account solely to show them my gratitude, that's REAL!!!! read more

My partner and I stayed at the Orchard Street Hotel last week so that we could get a feel for NYC's Lower East Side and how it has changed over the past decades. Right beside our hotel, we had the pleasure of discovering Nick and Sons Clothing Inc., a store that has occupied 161 Orchard Street for many years. We were delighted to have discovered this shop--as well as Daniel's Leather, the Orchard Corset shop, and a few of the other long-time (and near-by) residents of Orchard Street. Nick carries top quality leather, fur and sheepskin coats and jackets, as well as accessories such as hats, gloves and scarves, all at outstanding prices. Home now, I am kicking myself for not buying the leather jacket I tried on at his shop. It was stylish, well-made, and would have lasted me a lifetime. I will definitely be visiting this store again -- both to buy AND to listen to Nick's fascinating perspectives on the evolution of Orchard Street. This store is well worth a visit. read more

Nick is such an awesome guy. He's one of the few stores left. I've been getting all my leather jackets on orchard street for over 20 years (my mom probably 30 years +) , and was so sad to see most of the stores gone. But Nick is still there. His prices are the best in town, and if he doesn't have a style, he will get it for you. Why pay $600 +for a leather jacket at the retail stores ( some aren't even leather, just a brand) when you can get a nice, good quality, leather jacket here for way less. I have jackets from here from 10 years ago still in good condition. They're styles and quality withstand time. read more

It doesn't get any better than this. I went to Nick & Son's Clothing Co. for the first time a week ago because I found out that they were a Schott NYC authorized retailer. Being that I was interested in a particular Schott jacket, I wanted to try it on before committing to one. When I stepped into the store, the owner, Nick, greeted me like I was a longtime friend--even though this was the first time I had met him--and promptly showed me around the store. I was surprised at the amount of awesome leather jackets, suits and coats that was packed into this mom and pop store. However, I was a little disappointed to see that they didn't have the particular jacket that I was looking for, but the owner, Nick, quickly pulled out a Schott catalog and asked me to show him which jacket I was looking for. When I showed him the jacket in the catalog, he asked for my jacket size but I wasn't sure if the Schott jacket was a trimmer fit or not, so I didn't know if I should order my regular size or order one size up. But Nick, treating me like an old friend, said that he would have my jacket in stock in four days with several sizes so that I could try them all on. Nick kept his word. Four days later, I got a call from him to come "try on the jackets". I wasn't even pressured to buy the jacket! He wanted me to see if I even liked it first. That is customer satisfaction at its best. Of course, I tried the jacket and loved it, so I decided to purchase it right away. I was amazed at this man's attention to customer service. Actually, you can't even call it that because the term "customer service", in terms of retail clothing stores, has connotations of a staff that only seems to care about their customers--how ironic--and are so impersonal most of the time. They just want to see you buy and get out as quickly as possible. No, going to Nick & Son's is like going an old friend's place. He treats you like an old friend and talks to you like one. He actually cares. And I'm just glad that my new "old friend" happens to sell the best leather jackets in town.
