As someone who often buys their beers, I had to visit the brewery to try even more, and it did not disappoint. The Naughty Neighbour Pale Ale and Wicked Awesome IPA are absolute classics, and the Headstock is a flavourful West Coast IPA. The Raspberry Jam Stand is juicy, thick, and jammy--without that off-putting aftertaste some sours have (my wife and I are picky with sours, but this one is fantastic!). We genuinely enjoyed all the beers except the Cucumber and Lime Gose. The vibes at the brewery are great, often enhanced by live acoustic performances. A solid spot for beer lovers! read more

While shopping for beer at the LCBO, my wife had the very good fortune to run into Angelo from Nickel Brook. Angelo saw my wife looking at the beer selections trying to find something I would like. He stepped in and asked several questions and curated a selection of Nickel Brook beers for me. Huge kudos to Angelo for some really amazing customer service. He clearly stepped out of what I assume a territory rep would normally be asked to do in patiently walking a customer who doesn't know much about beer through selections and making recommendations. While I would assume that sales are his primary responsibility, it was really refreshing to see a sales rep with this level of customer service for a single customer. All brand ambassadors in area reps should strive for his level of service and knowledge. To say that the beers were all awesome as an understatement. I'm a big fan of lots of the Ontario craft beers especially Collective Arts, but I have a new favorite and that's absolutely Nickel Brook. Angelo, if you get to read this, thank you so much! Needed a break from wine and Nickel Brook was the perfect spot. We were traveling with our dog and she was welcomed with open arms. My parents aren't really into beers but we shared a flight and they tasted along. The guy working the tasting room was so friendly and really made us feel at home. He brought us a cold growler full of water and a fresh bowl for the pup. My dad loves root beer and was given a glass to taste. Great hospitality! Left with some cans of Immodest and Wicked Awesome. Wicked awesome was not available to taste but I am glad he recommended it and I was able to grab some cans. It is very true to its name. Usually, I find NE IPA too light but this still had a nice bite. They are undergoing some construction at the time but the great service definitely offset it. read more

Nickel Brook Brewery - Dog Friendly - Breweries Near Me - Burlington, Ontario

This is more of a review of the root beer rather than the establishment, especially since they operate as small bar with a small eatery. I've tried probably every root beer available in the GTA and Montreal. Not one has come close to Nickel Brook's. The flavours are complex, so it's not just sugar water with a slight sweet birch flavour. They've got vanilla, sweet birch, sarsaparilla, sassafras, cinnamon bark, star anise and orange peel. It's definitely not comparable to many root beers out there. It has a deep and complex, almost earthy flavour. Notes of licorice (star anise), sweet birch and vanilla are the most noticeable. If you're familiar with sarsaparilla bark, you can taste it as well in the background as it's not an incredibly strong flavour. It's sweet, but not enough to be overpowering, which keeps it balanced in flavour. I always have a stock of about 12 bottles in storage just in case. I find these root beers are to be sipped and enjoyed like a good scotch, not chugged or had with food. I don't drink anymore, however I've heard great things about their beers. So if they're anywhere near as good as their root beer, I'd give them a try. read more

New Burlington and enjoy breweries ... found Nickel Brook after a bit of googling. They are a bit hidden, so if you are not looking for them, you will miss them. Once we found them, they had a couple of doors open, obviously to catch some of the good breeze during August. So played a bit of a shell game to get in. lol. But we found the entrance. There is lots of good space in here. And we found out they have lots of good events that happen weekly, look forward to checking those out. Okay, on to the task on hand, the beer. So we grabbed a 4 beer flight to test a light, and IPA, medium(wheat) and a good dark. So we got the Cause and Effect, In This Corner, Equilibrium and Kentucky Bastard Stout. All were great. And I love Stouts and Porters, so also bought a bottle of the Kentucky Bastard. The staff was friendly and gave some great suggestions for beer based on our likes. They know their beer. Lots of parking, some pretty great beer and evening activities. Oh I'll be back. :) read more

I have to confess, I was not a fan of Nickel Brook Brewery. I tried their Headstock and Green Apple Pilsner which I found them not really my pint of beer.... but until this last year or so, the brewmaster did get a little more adventurous and their products and seasonal beers became much better. Le Paysan Saison Maple Porter Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout Immodest Imperial India Pale Ale The above are just a few of the newer beers they have been rolling out from their brewery which I really enjoyed. I still waiting for that Old Kentucky Bastard which is only available at the brewery. You can have a taste of most of their beers aside from the special bottles. I just wondering how my Winery Bastard ($18.95) will taste? Now sitting in my fridge waiting for me! My first experience with a product from Nickel Brook was Immodest which I happened to have at Tallboys on Bloor near Ossington. I have to say that beer left a great impression on me. I don't know what it is but for the past half year or more I have been on a hop high. I admit I have always loved beer but only until recently have I really loved the more hoppy beers like pale ales and the like. Whether imperial, India, English, double, whatever I have been loving various beers of the hoppy variety. I have learned what IBU's mean, I have tried PA's from the west coast, east coast and locally and I have to say it's like a new rediscovery of good and better tasting beer these days. While I'm already familiar with Headstock I have to say the Immodest I had at Tallboys made me want to seek out this beer. Luckily for me the brewery that makes this product (Nickel Brook aka Better Bitters) is in the city that I work in (Burlington). A short drive from my office to Nickel Brook which is just off Fairview just west of Guelph Line (between Brant and Guelph) is Drury Lane and Nickle Brook is just off to the left. Inside the store one side is the wine side (right side) while the left side is the beer side where if you look closely through the glass partition and the wall of exhibits and accolades you can actually see them making the beer in the production area. The Headstock cans have a new different look now and Immodest was there as well. The employee there told me that the Headstock and Malevolent were just made that morning (fresh!). So I went with some of those too. Now Immodest may not be the highest IBU beer I've had to date (GLB's Robohob is IBU 100), Immodest is a 90. That's high and it's also 9% alcohol/volume. This is a tasty, strong beer here. It's flavor it strong and the quality is high. This is no watered down light beer. The store is simple, the atmosphere is great. While the beer side may be a little cramped you get what you want and it's just simple and to the point. If you are looking for a craft beer, this place has many to choose from. I'm yet to try them all but for now the Immodest will be a treat and the Headstock can be a regular. Nickel Brook makes good quality craft beer and the prices are pretty decent too. The Immodest and the Malevolent were 4 bucks a can and a 6 of Headstock was just over 13. If you're going to pay 2 something for a tallboy why not get the good stuff? Now that I know where this place is I will easily come back and stock up and support locally made crafted beer that is of higher quality and better tasting than the big brand stuff. read more

I was dropped off near by for the Go train. Seen this place and well.....I needs to try every microbrew the GTA has to offer. Great selection of Brews, Flights and hell, you can even have a quick board game competition. 10-15 min walk from the Burlington Go train stop makes this place a nice stop over. read more

Let me tell you a story of extraordinary customer service. Let me declare that this story has nothing to do with alcohol of any sort, yet still resulted in amazing customer service from a brewery. These wonderful folks at Nickel Brook are the architects of the greatest root beer I have ever had the privilege of tasting. Babbling Brook's Traditional Root Beer; made with sassafras root, even! Growing up in the U.S., I was never exposed to such wonders because the government there, in all its [lack of] wisdom, made sassafras illegal as a food additive some decades back. I discovered this root beer (by Nickel Brook) in 2016, and have loved it ever since. I regularly stopped into their bottle shop to buy several cases at a time, and they'd help me load them into the car! I can't relate just how lovable this root beer is; you just have to experience it. Recently, Nickel Brook had to change some of their supply chains, resulting in the root beer bottling happening off-site. The new recipe, sadly for me, does not have sassafras. When I called them to inquire, they went to their warehouse and dug out *ALL* of their remaining bottles of the old recipe (with sassafras!), and held them for me to come and buy them in person. Mind you, this is a brewery specializing in sours and several other craft beer styles, focusing almost entirely and successfully on craft beer. They still took the time to help a lover of their non-alcoholic drinks (root beer for life!) get what they wanted. This means the world to me, and will always be a part of my story as I tell friends back home about the best root beer I ever tasted. Thank you, Nickel Brook! read more

Taking a drive down the 403, and was about to pass Burlington when a little lightbulb in my head went off, which reminded me that Nickel Brook is based out of Burlington! So we took the detour off at Guelph Line and took a quick swing into the Fairview and Drury neighbourhood. Now in full disclosure, Nickel Brook is one of my favourite Ontario brewers. I love that they do a wide variety of beers, all of which have unique but for the most part very impressive flavours. Headstock IPA is a personal favourite and really the main reason I got turned on to Nickel Brook, but their Cause & Effect blonde ale, Naughty Neighbour APA, Immodest IIPA, and Payson saison to name a few, are all great beers regularly available in LCBOs (and thusly, regularly sitting in my fridge). However getting to stop by the brewery and bottle shop was nice because they also offer other seasonal brews that you won't find otherwise. I took home some bottles and cans of their Lux Lager, Equilibrium Extra Special Bitter, Continental Belgian Pale Ale, Raspberry Uber, and even a Green Apple beer (spoiler alert, this one tastes like someone put a sour apple jolly rancher in a glass of beer... Might want to skip this one). And being a lover of independent clothing providers, I was happy to see all of their t-shirts were priced at only $20 (tax in!), so I even grabbed on of those. If you don't want to just grab beer to go, they do offer flights of their other beers that are on tap, including options that aren't available in bottles or cans. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the tap room isn't really the place you want to hang out for extended periods (it would feel like hanging out in a retail store drinking, not a bar). But you should go and support one of Canada's best brewers, and make sure you try a Headstock if you haven't. read more

My favourite brewery! Theyve always got something new cooking, the beers are great tasting , and the prices are totally affordable. Their root beer is to die for, alcoholic or alcohol free. They also have great sales one once in awhile, so I love to go and pick up a case or two of beers to take home for a few weeks. The merch looks great and the staff are very helpful and kind. A friend of mine said that the beer was great but the service and staff were less than helpful. I thought, why not pop in after MEC for a growler, the service was probably a one off? Well. Let me tell you the beer is not good enough to subject yourself to the staff. We were greeted with a grunt. It was clear that we were interrupting the paperwork. We had to get our own growlers off the shelf. When we asked the price of an item we were advised it's on the board. We were delayed by repeated phone calls that were answered. The customer behind us left without any service. There are many other amazing craft breweries that are up and coming that will gladly sell you their products. If walk in customers are not what you're interested in, then stick with the LCBO. I will not be back. read more

Everything about Nickel Brook is right: small seasonal batches, classic flavourful with a twist, uniquely Canadian tastes like Maple porter, etc. Their Babbling Brook root beer (non-alcoholic) puts all others to shame. Faves are Bolshevik Bastard, Maple Porter, and Babbling Brook. Twice I have been sold beer over a 10 months old (4 cans over a year) at their brewery location. The first time I bought 12 beers, 4 of them were well over a year old. I thought it must have been a one off and did not complain. However I recently bought 6 cans (Half Bastard/Equilibrium/ Headstock) both Half Bastard were brewed in January of 2017. The beer is flat. This is an ongoing issue of them offloading old unsold beer. Really sad as their beer is great however their shady business practice ruins the taste. read more

Great service, friendly knowledgeable staff, and a great selection of beers. Just had their 11.05 collaberation brew with Sawdust City.This beer is dangerous at 11.05 abv. It's dangerous because it tastes great. Brewed with Sour Sop Fruit, who would have known. Great selection of regular and seasonal brews. Also picked up some Peach Uber Berliner Weisse and Blue Plum Berliner, which were much tamer at 4 abv. Sampled there Ceres Cucumber Lime Gose, so refreshing. Very Unique beer! read more
