Non-resident cars must pay $50 for parking and non-residents on foot pay $25. Residents pay $10. I believe the upped the non-resident fee significantly which is kind of crazy. I would suggest investing in one of those beach trolleys with the large wheels. It makes life so much easier. Unfortunately, I had one with thin wheels so it was a lot to drag that thing in the sand. We picked a spot not too far from the entrance but it was hell getting there with my cart. I have since returned it for a larger-wheeled cart. The water was very rough. I likely wouldn't return here with my toddler in tow but I wouldn't mind an adult's beach day outing here. The beach is very clean and there is ample space where you don't feel on top of other beach goers. The kids had a great time playing in the sand, making sand catles and running around. The seagulls are very aggressive. They were attacking people's unattended food. One guy had to chase away a pack of seagulls that descended upon some unsuspecting person's goodies. They're brazen and will go through your stuff while you're enjoying the water. After spending time on the beach, we went to the showers to rinse off. The shower water is really cold so be prepared for that. It was nice to see that the bathrooms were still clean after a full day out on the sand. Usually, these places look worse for wear after so many people have been using the facilities all day. I'm just happy that this outing made my daughter enjoy the beach and even the sand. She used to not want to walk in the sand. We had to carry her and place her on her chair or a mat but this day, she stopped being particular about her sensory issues with the sand and gave in, enjoying everything else she could do with it. It was great to see her evolution.

Coming from LA, where beaches are almost always packed this was such a nice change of scenery. During the summer if you don't get there by 10am if you're driving, good luck finding a parking spot. My first (and hopefully not my last) time here at my friends invitation. Very easy to get to off the Loop Parkway and parking was free after 5:30. From my home in Mineola, it was less than a 30 minute drive. This is a great spot to sit back, relax and take in the beauty of the day. The park has basketball courts, a pool and a store for food supplies. This is definitely a relaxing place to bring your kids for the day. I totally understand families who rent the cabanas for the summer. So many people and kids all having a great time. The beach is not a far walk but I opted out of the water for the day. We came there on July 3rd to relax and watch the fireworks show from Town. My friends cabana is perfectly situated so we could sit back and easily watch the show. Very clean here... The staff is constantly cleaning the area and removing garbage (from the pails.) KUDOs to the team at Nickerson Beach.

The roaring, sleep- inducing waves, the hot sand, the swooping, singing birds, the cacophony of beach goers' voices all make for a perfect day. If I had a magic wand, I would have shuttle carts, if you will, that carry ,hourly , beach goers to and from the parking lot. The trek from the parking lot to the water can be brutal if ur carrying all your gear and wearing flip flops. Another reason why, once I'm settled into my spot, I don't move. The bathrooms, and concession stands are way off to the left of the beach. The summer is almost done so I'll be making at least one more visit to my beach before Labor Day.

This beach is 12 minutes from our front door, so you can't beat if for convenience. Every year, we…read morego to park headquarters and buy a summer parking pass for fifty dollars (senior rate). At peak times and peak season, parking can be five or six rows back, but we've never had any real trouble parking. The lifeguards here are amiable and efficient. There are good restrooms and a snack bar. The beach is magnificent, with great opportunities to see bird life such as American Oyster Catchers and cormorants. Only problem some years is the seaweed, which can turn some parts of the beach into a soup. On the other hand, once you are on the beach, you can walk as far as you wish towards Long Beach, and set up your beach chairs anywhere. The Parks Dept. continues to improve this every year. This season they have added a large ramp from the restroom area to the beach, covering about half the distance to the water. Regular admission is ten dollars, so we make sure to go more than five times to get more than our money's worth.

If you go up and down the long way, you can get a nice 3.5 miles in on this baby with some hills. Throw in a weighted vest, and you're getting yourself a solid light workout. There are already so many reviews, so just some notes: 1) Make your way around the current dump (also a Nassau County gem, seriously) and drive slowly. 2) Parking is tricky at certain times of the day and on weekends. Make sure to come before 9:30 on beautiful days, or else you'll be parking far, far away. More steps, If you really want them I guess. 3) Wear your sunscreen! Skin cancer is no joke, and it's pretty bright up top with not a lot of coverage if you walk around to the lake. 4) Beware...No lights in the bathroom and really not the best place to use the loo. There however is a shopping center close by... 5) Look out of all sorts of critters from birds to bugs.. including ticks.
