I'm not really a NY beach person, per se. I love visiting beaches when on holiday because they are usually cleaner. However, Lido Beach was a nice surprise. Non-resident cars must pay $50 for parking and non-residents on foot pay $25. Residents pay $10. I believe the upped the non-resident fee significantly which is kind of crazy. I would suggest investing in one of those beach trolleys with the large wheels. It makes life so much easier. Unfortunately, I had one with thin wheels so it was a lot to drag that thing in the sand. We picked a spot not too far from the entrance but it was hell getting there with my cart. I have since returned it for a larger-wheeled cart. The water was very rough. I likely wouldn't return here with my toddler in tow but I wouldn't mind an adult's beach day outing here. The beach is very clean and there is ample space where you don't feel on top of other beach goers. The kids had a great time playing in the sand, making sand catles and running around. The seagulls are very aggressive. They were attacking people's unattended food. One guy had to chase away a pack of seagulls that descended upon some unsuspecting person's goodies. They're brazen and will go through your stuff while you're enjoying the water. After spending time on the beach, we went to the showers to rinse off. The shower water is really cold so be prepared for that. It was nice to see that the bathrooms were still clean after a full day out on the sand. Usually, these places look worse for wear after so many people have been using the facilities all day. I'm just happy that this outing made my daughter enjoy the beach and even the sand. She used to not want to walk in the sand. We had to carry her and place her on her chair or a mat but this day, she stopped being particular about her sensory issues with the sand and gave in, enjoying everything else she could do with it. It's a decent beach, but they're charging $50 per car for non-residents. This struck me as a "locals only" kind of beach. I'm referring specifically to "Lido Beach West" btw. The beach area is fine, and the swimming is okay. I believe there is a snack stand available. Men's restroom was f'd up... should have been much cleaner. read more

This beach is a big disappointing. It charges $10 per car for Town of Hempstead residents and $50 per car for non-Hempstead residents. The beach has lots of seaweed flowing around and the water is not clear at all. The sands is very dry and it goes everywhere once the wind blows it. It is so hard to build sand castle due to the texture of the sand, or you will need to add water to the sand. There are some metals and broken glass pieces at the beach area, very dangerous for little kids. Love the picnic area though. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. Don't go here if you want to actually swim. If you decide to swim deeper than knee high depth (their protocol) and actually enjoy the beach, be prepared for whistles and a mob of scared "lifeguards" threatening to kick you out. Just was asked to leave as they found medical waste and over 20 syringes in the water. Just paid $10 and had my nephew in there for about twenty minutes. This is one of my favorite beaches. The earlier you go, the quieter it is. There are picnic areas that you can rent for the day. Several restrooms. A concession stand with the basics (hot dogs, soda, water, etc.). Showers (with GREAT water pressure!). The beach itself is incredibly clean and even when it does become crowded, it's never loud and no one ever bothers anyone else. The only reason I knocked off a star is because the girls that work the parking booth can be snotty. Some will charge the non-resident price just because they want to so you have to fight them a bit from time to time. read more

The view of the stars and the moon shining on the water at 4 o clock in the morning is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. The night..well morning I had here was AWESOME. As a resident of Bayside and a Long Island native, I've always enjoyed the the beaches along Lido with my family. I was shocked to learn over the weekend that the non-resident fees jumped from $25 to a whopping $50 for a day at the beach. It's incredibly sad that I won't be able to enjoy that time any longer. The weather has gotten warmer and the sun is out. Only means that it's time for some fun in the sun because it's summer time! Since Jones Beach or Long Beach tends to be overcrowded during the summer months, I usually go to Lido with my friends. It less crowded by tourists and is more of a local beach. After paying for parking ($10 for residents and $20 for non-residents), there is a lot to the left to leave your car. There is a picnic area to eat and host parties. On the path to the beach they recently installed a box with free sunscreen in case you need more or forgotten yours. From the wooden walk to the beach the water is a short walk away. I always find it better to come in the early morning when the beach opens. You can then get a spot close to the water at that time and the heat won't be as intense than later in the day. The beach is generally clean and there are lifeguards there overwatching the marked areas. read more

Its next door to West Lido Beach and Long Beach and is $16 to park for non-residents (which is cheaper than Long Beach's $12 per person when you're paying for two people). There is a picnic / shower / restroom area nestled between the parking lot and beach (along with basketball / tennis courts). The beach was clean, the life guards weren't obnoxiously blowing their whistles, there was plenty of space, and there were decent waves. My biggest pet peeve is not having an address to enter into my GPS. Enter the Yelp provided address, but make a right turn after the large children's playground (and don't be fooled by West Lido Beach). This beach makes me feel like I'm on the beaches of California. I love it here. It's quiet, clean, and free if you just park your car on the street versus the parking lot, and just walk in. Duh! This is one of the quieter beaches on the south shore - bring yourself something to eat and drink - its also particularly nice if you're biking around long beach - long beach is flat, and short, so it doesn't take forever to get from end to end, but its nice to get off at each point and poke around the sand a little. when its moist...watch out for them mosquitos! read more

The Beach and I have quite a special relationship, its where I can forget all of my troubles and have a moment with myself and my thoughts, but most importantly, surf till my hearts content. This beach in particular is where I fell in love with surfing. Its where I first learned how to ride a wave, where I floated over my first section, where I smacked my first lip, and most memorably, where I caught my first barrel. Don't get me wrong it hasn't been all peachy with this beach, she taught me the first of many lessons in humility. Always respect the ocean. I remember the mornings when I would paddle out before the crowds got there. Feeling the warm sun hit my face as I would paddle into wave after wave. The sessions that no one ever saw, as I would rip up lip after lip. Doing it not for the glory of local legend, but for myself alone. That fuzzy feeling that warms your insides the whole day and gives you something to grin about while you're stuck at your boring summer job. Yes this beach taught me a lot. Aside from my loner sessions, I'll never forget the friends I made here during those summer months or the memories that were ingrained in my head of my friend's rides, hooting at each other's rides in the evening light. Laughing and giggling at stupid jokes we would tell one another while waiting for sets. Lido Beach is a special place, indeed. read more

$25 to get in per vehicle if you're not from the town. Just a disclaimer there. It's a smaller beach, has a wash house and vending machines near a little snack bar area. Sand is nice and clean, good waves. A bit crowded for the price, you'd think it would deter more people and they let people toss footballs around but they don't allow boogie boards in the water for the kids. Pretty screwed up considering how many times I watched these scrubs miss a catch and have the ball land on someone's area. How about getting rid of the balls and allowing boogie boards? Overall, decent beach, decent people, it's a bit closer than the rest, but you can drive a few blocks up and avoid the fees and have the option to use your boogie boards. I think you can surf a ways up from the wash house, but I'm not certain. read more

I wanted to come here today, but the older woman in the office was so horribly rude and nasty to me when I asked a question about paying admission, so I decided to leave. There are plenty of other beaches in the area, and I'll happily go anywhere else without bothering to try Lido Beach again. I'm not sure why people love this beach so much. Yes, it is quieter than other Long Island beaches but there may be a reason for that (or several). Maybe the $20 entrance fee. Maybe the slew of regulations and signs posted all over the place (such as "no ball playing"). The facilities are dated and run down. The beach was not groomed well and there were tire tracks all over the place from the Town of Hempstead's vehicles which are constantly cruising along the sand. It was Fourth of July weekend and a friend and I decided we needed to head to the beach. I usually do this about once a summer -- I've always been a pool person by day, beach person by night. Growing up outside of Boston with 60 degree water (and no waves) on a good day does not entice one to the beach too often. But I love a good walk on the beach during the evening when it cools down. But I digress... First of all, do not come here if you're not a resident. We made the trek from Queens thinking we'd try to get in with our, "We go to Hofstra and forgot our ID's, but we have Hofstra stickers on the car" excuse, and if not, we'd weigh our options. I saw the sign that say $22.50 for non-residents and I almost died. $22.50 to go to an effing beach?! I mean it's nice, but it's not THAT nice. It's a beach. On Long Island. With greenish-brownish water. And Long Island residents. Anyway, our excuse worked! We paid (only?) $7.50. Why Hofstra students are considered residents of Lido Beach is beyond me, but I have no problem with it at all. A very lovely experience sitting in between two groups of Long Island kids talking about getting drunk and nipples and I don't even know what else. Was entertaining to say the least. The best part about beaches on LI is the waves. We don't really have them in MA, unless you go out to the Cape, but with beaches much closer than that, it seems silly. I never really enjoyed being in the ocean water until I went here (it was only my second time at Lido). They have a food stand with the usual goodies. I suggest bringing your own, if you can, since it's a little overpriced. Bathroom is atrocious, but it is a beach, so I understand. Though you'd think the $22.50 fare would help out with that. read more

I love this beach even if I am giving it only 3 stars. Beautiful water miles of sand but it does have it's draw backs. (this review is for lido/long beach since I couldn't find a check in for long beach when I was there) This will always be my choice over jones beach whose overpopulation on the weekends can make you want to kill yourself but long beach has it's own parking problems with really not much parking unless your a resident. The "toll" booths that allow access to the beaches are insane. Overpriced fees like most NY bridges nowadays and an overzealous high school kid pissed he has to work the summer make entering the beach a jarring affair. I owe some of my dearest summer memories to Lido Beach. A bunch of us would take a couple o' cars out to Lido for a late morning/afternoon of relaxing on the beach. Gossip magazines, spritzers, iPods, light banters and loud laughters, cute beach (surfer) boys, sand castles, frisbee... Unlike the public bathhouse Jones Beach, Lido offers a "cozier" beach setting with the knowing locals frequenting it in the summer time. I also believe it's the only surfing beach on LI. 3.5/5 Stars -- I came here on a Friday afternoon around 12pm and the beach was not packed at all. It cost around 20$ for admission if you're not a resident ($10 if you are). There is plenty of parking when we got there. Walking from the parking lot to the beach are couple of BBQ areas and benches to relax and eat. As far as the beach itself -- there were plenty of spots in the sand to choose from to enjoy the sun and water. The water was full of seaweed and along the shore were A LOT of shell fish and some dead crabs but the water itself was very calm and not overwhelming with waves. I would recommend this place because its not as packed as the other popular beaches in Long Island and the plentiful parking spots. read more

Lido Beach is one of my favorite beaches to come to during the hot summer days in New York. Town residents pay $8 dollars while out of towner's pay $16 , the price may seem a bit high & it is but in comparison to others out on the island it is worth it for a few reasons. Nice beach , most of the time the water is pretty clean unless it's been raining & then there seems to be a bit too much seaweed. The Beach itself is clean , not too much going on other than people enjoying themselves, There are no loud noises or drunken people. I wanted to give the beach 4 stars but settled on 3 because as nice as the beach itself is ... the bathrooms here are a nightmare !! Both women & men's bathrooms are filthy , I just don't get it ? the beach itself is maintained nicely they really need to put A LOT more effort into keep the bathrooms clean. With the exception of the dirty bathrooms the beach is very enjoyable. read more

Since one of my friend introduced me, I come here often during the summer. My kids love playing with the big and clean waves here. The sands are really clean, too. The people are very nice, no weird people who don't have manner. I love the cleanness of bath rooms and showers. It worth paying ten dollars for parking. read more
