Having two offices in Arcadia and Alhambra and Saturday appointments is a huge plus, especially for working pregnant women. My whole pregnancy journey was beautiful. I was in the very early stage of pregnancy when I first went to see him. Since I did not know my cycle well, he told me I seemed to be about 2 to 3 weeks pregnant. From what I understood, at that stage it is usually too early to see anything through an abdominal ultrasound, and a cervical ultrasound would normally be needed. However, he examined me through my stomach and even said he could see a tiny dot that was supposed to be the gestational sac. I felt suspicious, but because he was the doctor and it was my first pregnancy, I let it go. I had a short flight planned for a vacation, so I specifically asked him whether it was safe for me to travel, and he said it was fine. During the trip, I started having severe bleeding. I was in another state, panicking, and could not just walk into his office. I called him and the nurse, since they had my chart and should have known my situation and how far along I was. I even checked the office hours before calling to make sure they were still open. The only answer I got was, "The office is closed. Call back on Monday." It was Saturday, and according to their posted hours, the office was supposed to still be open. I was not expecting anyone to magically stop the bleeding over the phone. I simply wanted basic guidance about whether this was an emergency and what I should do next. I was terrified and almost fainted from panic. Eventually, I went to a nearby urgent care, where I found out it was a chemical pregnancy and that I had miscarried. I was furious at how both the doctor and the nurses handled everything. I still cannot understand how a doctor could respond to a desperate patient like that. What made it even worse was what happened afterward. When I called later to cancel my next appointment because of the miscarriage, I was hoping for at least a little compassion, maybe something like, "I'm sorry to hear that. Please take care." Instead, the nurse simply said, "You want to cancel? Okay, bye." Please do not go here. This place is the worst. I still do not understand how he has such high reviews. When I first discovered my pregnancy, I was feeling lots of emotions. Most importantly, I didn't know where to start nor had any emotional assistance to prepare for this journey. I later discovered a facility in Alhambra featuring the OBGYN, Dr. Foong. I felt guided to this facility. I enjoyed the visit, and I will for sure remember this moment. Dr. Foong knows exactly what he is talking about; he is very straightforward, and values his patients time. I appreciate the great team managing the front office. The waiting room is quite big, and therapeutic to wait in. Although, I wanted to keep my first pregnancy as a surprise, I believe things unfolded the way it did for a reason-- Everything was divinely orchestrated. Plus, I get to save a lot of money! ‍ Additionally, Dr. Foong is pretty spot on and precisely close with his prediction; I was already going to deliver a little before thanksgiving. He did an amazing job delivering my baby, and I'm so grateful he did because he was reassuring and strong throughout the process; he also has a sense of humor which made my experience lighter. If you're looking for an experienced, highly skilled, and knowledgeable OB/GYN who graduated from one of the best American medical schools, and finished residency at the top hospital in LA, I highly recommend Dr. Foong. He even speaks 7 languages! Both of his office have staff members who speak English, Spanish and Chinese. The front staff, Terry and Melody are so nice here. Dr.Foong births all of his patients, advocates for vaginal births unless the baby or mom is at risk and he is very skilled in c- sections with minimal scarring. I've always been anti-male obgyn. My previous Dr. retired. The 3 female Dr's in the area I was hoping to book an appt with all relocated to a different city. My insurance company automatically assigned me to Dr. Foong. I was dreading going to my appt. The only thing that I was relieved about was that the bloodwork would be done at the same office. Most reviews I found online were related to pregnancy care, but I came to Dr. Foong with a complicated case -- an ovarian cyst and endometriosis. My medical journey has been long, and I had seen multiple doctors before, but I'm truly thankful I found him. His approach was different from what I was used to, and at first, it surprised me. But very quickly I realized that he is a true professional who knows exactly what he is doing. I had to undergo a unilateral oophorectomy (open surgery), and the whole process went so smoothly. The recovery was much easier than I expected, and the incision is very small and neat -- after just one month it already looks amazing. Terrible experience. This doctor gave me ovulation meds and wrong TTC advice even though I had no fertility issues, which caused an infection. I got pregnant that cycle, but he gave me meds unsafe for pregnancy and later denied it. I had light bleeding and low HCG from the start. At 6 weeks, he did the ultrasound himself and said everything looked fine. A week later, I had massive bleeding and pain. He suddenly said it might be ectopic. I was rushed to the ER for emergency surgery and nearly died from internal bleeding. Completely irresponsible and dangerous. read more

Dr. Foong has a wonderful office located in San Gabriel Valley. Very close to Alhambra, South Pasadena and San Marino. He made my wife feel so at ease and comfortable. He is so knowledgeable and reassured us all the way thru the pregnancy. Everyone he has working for him in his office is very professional. I'm so grateful for the excellent care I received from Dr. Foong. I came to him for a hysterectomy after my pelvic ultrasound detected fibroids on my uterus. While Dr. Foong suggested alternative treatments, I felt that a partial hysterectomy was the best option for my severe pelvic pain and heavy vaginal bleeding, and I no longer wanted to have children. During the surgery, Dr. Foong found an unexpected large cyst on my left ovary that had not shown up on my previous imaging. I'm so thankful that Dr. Foong was experienced enough to have me sign an additional consent form, allowing him to safely remove the cyst along with performing the partial hysterectomy. This saved me from needing a separate procedure later on. The surgery went smoothly, and I'm relieved that Dr. Foong was able to preserve one of my ovaries and cervix as I had requested. I feel blessed to have had such a skilled and attentive surgeon handling my case. Dr. Foong's thoughtful approach and attention to detail put me at ease throughout the process. First of all, thank you Dr. Foong. Dr. Foong delivered my first child 4 years ago and my second just last month. We first discovered him because of his Saturday clinic hours and his reputation. However, we came back for our 2nd pregnancy because he is that GOOD. So much so we are willing to drive 2 hours round trip to his clinic week after week. I had many memorable experiences with Dr. Foong. I was able to see ultrasound of my child every visit, during which Dr. Foong reassured my wife and I that our baby was doing great. Today, I have a collection of ultrasound prints of my children. Also, Dr Foong had an on-site phlebotomist, which could perform some blood tests which was very convenient. Dr. Foong surgical skill is second to none. One of my children was breech and the other had a double nuchal cord. Both were delivered via C-section by Dr. Foong without complications. Both times my wife was back on her feet a week post surgery, managing her pain with just tylenol. The most impressive was the C-section scar. The scar from the first C-section was so faint that it impressed both my wife's friends and the nurses who saw it. In fact, my wife had to point the scar out to me. He is that GOOD and the we came back. As of today, my wife and I have completed the two most significant goals of our lifetime. As we continue our journey with our precious children, the milestone that marked their birth could not be complete without Dr. Foong. We are forever grateful. read more

I just had my baby in April & I've had 2 babys "sorta" delivered by Dr. Foong. I only say sorta because my 3rd baby came out fast and I delivered her before he got there & my 4th baby he was coming out as soon as dr came in! (For context i have 4 kids and 2 were delivered by Foong". So I found Foong because I found out I was pregnant with my 3rd and for my first 2 my dr was Dr.Chaing who is literally down the street well I found out he didn't take my insurance anymore so I wasn't able to go back to him so I looked around and Dr, Foong was highly recommended & boy am I so glad I did!! I loved my experience with him, I loved the lady's in the front especially Terry! MY OH MY! Terry is the absolute best!!! I loved how quick my visits were too! I loved that he had the clinic to take out blood there too so you didn't need to go to another place for a blood draw. I'd recommend him 100%. He is very thorough, informative, and has this positive aura/personality which has been very helpful most especially towards the end of my pregnancy when I developed some complications - it was a stressful phase but he continued to guide us in making decisions by always providing realistic expectations. My husband and I then proceeded with an elective C section. My recovery has been awesome and my incision/scar is barely there! Thanks to Dr. Foong! Another thing to love is the office schedule and the staff! The clinic is like a one stop shop - Blood draws were done in-house unlike my previous provider. STAY AWAY!! Dr. Foong was the worst. Everything was fine until he learned we had a birth plan. Thanks to him I'm undergoing labor trauma and so many anxiety attacks every time I remember my labor. At the hospital, he was so rude and unprofessional screaming at me during delivery and after delivery. Trying to rush me because it was Father's Day and he wanted to leave. He started talking to me as if I was stupid and didn't speak English. He did not care about anything that was on my birth plan. He made me push before my body was ready, and took my placenta out before my body released it. Now I have bladder prolapse thanks to what he did and might need surgery. When I went to get checked because I knew I had a prolapse, cause I could feel it. He checked me and said he didn't feel anything. I had to show him photos I took and said I had bladder prolape and to just rest for one more month and it would go away on its own (which is a lie, prolapse doesn't go away on its own, you need at least pelvic floor therapy ) I told him I was still bleeding and he said it was normal, and it isn't, and now I'm facing an infection because I have a piece of placenta still inside and a chance of surgery because I left the prolapse untreated and it got worse. read more

How could someone gave him a 5 star on his review. He had probation, misdemeanor and malpractice record on his medical license. With almost 1M dollars settlement, he must have made some really serious harm to his patient. I made a complaint to the CA medical board regarding a female physical exam he did to me when I was 18 years old, which was very inappropriate. Dr. Foong cracks me up. He's just the most affable man you could have as a doctor. He's knowledgeable, friendly and will take the time to answer whatever questions you have. He's been my OB-GYN for the last three pregnancies now and I would recommend him to anyone. This Monterey Park office is his main one, but he does have a smaller one in Arcadia, which I've been to as well. The Monterey Park office is older and certainly shows its age. I mention this because some people like nice, new doctors' offices and such (well, this isn't one of them). The Arcadia one, though quaint, is nicer. He no longer accepts Medi-Cal like he used to, only cash or private insurance for those who are wondering. He's just built such a successful business that he doesn't need to deal with the government on payments that take forever to come, plus he decided he just wants to take on fewer patients because he's been doing this for so long. He is at the Monterey Park office six days a week (Monday- Saturday), though the hours vary because he has his morning appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays at his Arcadia place. With both offices, you're pretty much in and out in about 45 minutes. The wait time has gotten so much better since he's cut out his Medi-Cal patients. Dr. Foong has a tendency to talk really quickly, repeat the same stories and ask you the same questions during different visits, so sometimes you may feel rushed or like he's not paying attention, but that's the way he is and has always been for the last ten years that I've dealt with him, so pay that no mind. He's still a good doctor and gets the job done. Fun facts: He's a Chinese doctor who speaks at least three dialects of Chinese, English and Russian (even his name is Russian because his mother was a ballet dancer obsessed with the Russian ballet). He was born in England so he does this hilarious British accent. For fun, he performs as an Elvis impersonator. And he's actually REALLY good at it too- just by weird coincidence, he was one of the acts at a charity function I attended; it came as a weird shock when I realized who it was. I had very bad experience with this doctor. This summer my pregnancy was highly suspicious of abnormal chromosome, during the waiting for the amniocentesis result, I wanted a second opinion from this doctor. The first thing he asked was the ultrasound result from me, which I should not had given him, but I did send him all my ultrasound records. When I was at the office, I said because you speak Chinese I feel convenient so I chose you for help. He said you don't know English, I translate the ultrasound record for you. I said, I know that record meaning. I am here is to have a second opinion about my situation. He said ok, let us do an ultrasound here. He had 3-4 interns into the ultrasound room, the ultrasound machine is as old as grandpa, the image is far worse than the hospital I was using before. He used me as a case study to his interns! He kept explaining to them what the problem is in my tummy, instead of talking to me. And he mostly kept talking in English, I requested Chinese, he said my Chinese is not good, I tried. I was so disappointed and I said I am here is for a second opinion, instead of you just repeat of the findings I gave you. He just stopped the ultrasound after a very quick and careless scan. He said now I saw the same as your existing findings, your previous hospital has much better ultrasound machine. I was so disappointed. I was so sad about my pregnancy and this doctor didn't help much and exposed my privacy to his interns, saddening me more. Later he expected my situation by did some googling information and gave some wrong information about my situation ( I did a lot of research before, so I notice he mixed up symptoms of 2 kinds of chromosome problems) He said he graduated from Cambridge, Britain( I googled his profile, nothing mentioned in Cambridge), with over 30 years of Woman clinic experience. Lastly before I left, he reminded me :" do remember to pay in the counter." I paid $130 for his doing nothing and exposing my privacy to others! I don't suggest anyone to use this doctor, especially he mentioned 30 years experience. Horrible experience for me. read more

Dr Nicolai Foong has been my doctor for 20 years. He is the best OB-GYN doctor in San Gabriel Valley area. Dr Foong is a very good and experienced OB-GYN doctor. He's informative and patience. He spends time answering and examining his patients and he manages his schedule very well. Waiting time is short and you can also call in for same day appointment if available. Staffs are friendly and helpful. They speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish and Vietnamese. Both Alhambra and Arcadia offices are nice and clean. There's a lab in the Alhambra office too! It makes thing easy and convenient to have both office visit and lab work done at the same location unless the lab contracted with your insurance is not contracted with the doctor. I saw some other OB doctors 2 years ago due to the change of my medical insurance but I didn't have good experience with them. Either the waiting time and appointment time were too long, or the doctors weren't patience and rushing to seeing other patients. I'd rather pay out of pocket to go back to Dr Foong for second opinion. He accepts majority medical insurances. I highly recommend Dr Nicolai Foong to you. read more
