I prefer to do business with someone local, not a nation wide 'chain'. They have been around for ages, but a couple of issues need mentioning; The receipts are hand written, but are hard to read without a clearly list of items especially if you save them to document purchases for specific projects and for future orders. It's great to have a locally owned building supply place in the city! Niemiec is closer to most city residents than Home Depot and priced very competitively. We've always found the building supplies to be top notch (and often better than the big-box places). If you're doing any kind of serious construction or want to talk with real pros, this is the place to visit. They can also help out with delivery--which was great when we were drywalling our whole first floor. They brought everything right into the house! They also had a larger range of standard sizes in the drywall, which helped reduce our costs, waste, and finishing time. Terrific service, great products, and solid pricing. Not only are they the only ones in the area who stock and sell the cedar shakes I needed for repair, I had a large choice of species and grades. As my car was being loaded, the salesman came by to open the box and confirm that I was getting what I wanted. It doesn't get any better than that! They always have the best lumber around. The quality of the wood is consistent and overall of top-quality. The straightness of all the pieces they have is amazing. No more sorting through two dozen to find one good one, like you do at the big box stores. They help you find quality pieces, and don't try to pawn off lesser quality ones. They'll toss aside pieces that don't meet their standards. They will also cut and rip pieces right there for you. And they help you load into or onto your vehicle. Was in need of batten for work in my trailer, was having trouble finding what I needed in the usual places including trailer places, took a small piece as an example with me to them and they sliced off 6 strips of 8 foot for me right there and it cost less for all then I expected for one. read more

The lumber is of better quality than Home Depot for sure. The prices are definitely higher. They have things you can't find at HD. The owner Rob is a jerk! He's moody, insulting and treats many of the customers like dirt. Most of the other guys are very good and knowledgeable. They get tired of having to apologize for their boss. read more
